February 20, 2026 One of the biggest downsides of not being a witch like her sister Yasmin, in Yara's opinion, was that travel was a real hassle. Yas didn't have to fantasize about the Hyperloop or whatever might come to teleport her from one place to the next in the supposedly not-so-distant future; she could just disappear and reappear from one place to the next using her mind. If only she could do the same, Yara thought, then she wouldn't have had a need to hang around a dilapidated storefront on Charing Cross Road like some sort of loiterer while waiting for her sister to return from work at the Hounds and Harriers, which would have been at least a few hours by train. As a hijabi alone at night, Yara tried to remain where the lighting was decent in order to discourage anyone who might think about causing her harm. She kept her keys in one hand, positioned in between her fingers in case she needed to use them for self-defense at any point, and her mobile phone in the other. There weren't many people going past at that hour, though at least she was free to eat and drink without unintentionally breaking her fast for Ramadan. Seeing two people materialize from out of the storefront nearest her wasn't that unusual for Yara, who knew that magical people did things like that, but she startled a little bit at the suddenness of it. They must have been a witch and a wizard, she thought, and they were about the same age as she and Yas were. She tried not to make it obvious that she had seen where they had—or technically hadn't—come from and glanced away, pretending to readjust her glasses instead. @harper james sirius potter

the more that you say the less I know
”…See—look. I want a picture like this one, so if I can borrow your bike just to take a new picture for my profile, I’d be forever grateful.” James spoke excitedly as he showed Harper a new application he had download onto his phone. It hadn’t been difficult to learn how to use the device, but there was still much he was learning daily. On the other hand, Harper worked with such devices regularly, so his excitement over the smallest thing might have seemed silly to her. But, he supposed it was just the nature of their relationship. While he towered over his cousin now, she was older than him by months, but they’d grown up side by side. Not to say that James wasn’t close with all his cousins but being close in age certainly helped.
They happened to both leave the Ministry at the same time, and James was distracted by his phone to really notice their surroundings. Well, that wasn’t entirely true. His time working as a Hitwizard had taught him to always be on the lookout, but there wasn’t that need for the hyper-vigilance he often saw in trainees or season Aurors. Plus, he was still much too distracted with this social media application. Looking up, however, he noticed a figure very much in their path and very close, and he wondered how long she’d been standing there. It was best he didn’t run his mouth about magical tech in front of a muggle, but after blinking a few times, he realized he’d seen her before. ”Yara?” James hoped he had the name correct. Obviously, Yas’ name was easy to remember considering their previous relationship or whatever that was, but he’d met her sister before at least once if he recalled correctly.

▲ There were positives and negatives to her position within the Ministry. Some of her family members found it absolutely necessary to suck all of her free time up when it came to assisting them with explanations on their new phones or computers. Her grandfather, bless his soul, had already pulled apart two phones with a pair of cooking tongs, having mistaken them for pliers (which still wouldn’t have worked, but that was beside the point), in an attempt to understand their inner workings. The third phone Harper had handed over to him was sealed with a charm that was neigh impossible to break through, knowing that he would try it again if possible. Today, it was James’s turn, though his request was slightly different. His own excitement came from having a phone that could access muggle applications, and the one he was currently holding open in front of her was a photo that he wanted to replicate for some profile of his that he was making. He wanted to borrow her motorcycle for it. “Yeah, of course. If you’re free tomorrow or Sunday, I can bring it out. Or whenever really,” she said, leaving her offer open ended. It wasn’t like she was busy these days aside from work. If anything, working around her cousin’s schedule was going to be the hardest part here. As she was thinking about good places to bring James and the bike for the picture – since taking it out on the street would be obnoxious and draw attention – he stopped and asked the person they were walking by if they were Yara. Harper hadn’t even seen the individual, having first been blinded by the brightness of her cousin’s phone screen, and then caught up in her own thoughts on her motorcycle. She didn’t recognize the woman, though there were always so many people that her relatives knew that it almost became impossible to keep track of who knew who and how they actually knew them in the first place. Harper stood silently next to James and looked back and forth between him and the stranger. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

February 20, 2026 "Yara?" Thinking for certain that she was hallucinating when she heard her name, Yara glanced back over at the young man and realized that she actually recognized him. He wasn't from her university, though, and neither was the young woman who was with him. Yara didn't recognize the young woman, though, but the young man? She was sure that he was a friend of Yasmin's. It wasn't as though Yara often hung around Yas when she was with her friends—at least not people she knew from Hogwarts or the magical world. Yas, having been in boarding school, had spent most of her time at Hogwarts during the year. Yara, on the other hand, had lived in Egypt until starting university. The little bit of overlap that she had had with Yas's life outside of their home country had been minimal, and it made the young man stand out that much more. "…James, right?" Yara asked after trying to place him. She hoped that she hadn't ended up horribly off the mark, especially with the other young woman there who obviously knew him better than she. It wouldn't have been the world's biggest embarrassment, but Yara still wanted to avoid messing it up if she could. james sirius potter @harper

the more that you say the less I know James smiled excitedly. This was one of those applications muggles used to stay connected on this new web. The interworkings of it all were quite beyond his comprehension, but he’d learned enough to use his phone and his other devices at work. The older Hit Wizards always groaned and complained when they had issues with their computer, even when it came to terminology. Apparently, calling one device a ‘computer’ and another a ‘laptop’ was offensive. Though not as funny as when one of the younger Hit Wizards asked one of the squad leaders if he could request a Desktop. The squad leader was a very experienced Hit Wizard (who by James’ estimation, had been around to meet the Hogwarts founders themselves), but one who struggled with all this tech the most. The perplexed look on his face stemmed from confusion as he asked ”Desktop? If you don’t have a desktop, what are you using to write on?”
James had walked away before he burst out laughing. The mix-up between a desktop computer and the actual Desktop had left them staring blankly for a few moments. His curiosity had never extended to the point that his grandfathers did, though it had spread to a few of his cousins. Mentally he recalled his schedule and which day would work for this little project. ”Tomorrow would be best.” Sunday, he would be busy working and then stopping by the pub to speak to his father about some Order business. ”This is why you’re my favorite cousin.” James declared, though a little bit serious. The family was large, but that was expected when there were six living Weasley siblings who all had children and various personalities.
But at the moment, he didn’t think of his cousins, the woman he recognized recalled his name correctly, and James put on a friendly smile. While their interaction had been minimal, he did remember her from some time when she’d been with her sister and around all of them. ”Yes, how are you?” James tried to recall if Yas had mentioned her sister lived in town, but it had been a few weeks since his schedule and time at the pub had overlapped with her own working schedule. And then he remembered he wasn’t alone, having forgotten his manners for a moment. ”This is my cousin, Harper.” He gestured to Harper at his side. ”This is Yas’ sister. I don’t know if you remember her from school.” They hadn’t been in the same house, but that hadn’t stopped an overly confident teenage James from flirting with her and being rejected, and they’d become friends.

▲ “Tomorrow is doable,” Harper confirmed, automatically making a mental note that she was going to have to get up early and make sure the motorcycle looked in a good shape. Thankfully a couple waves of her wand would clean it up and make it really shine for the pictures that James wanted. “Merlin, I hope I am. Especially after doing this.” Considering they were the closest in age compared to the rest of their family members and were both in Gryffindor (though that wasn’t the best set of data to pull from since most Weasley/Potters were it seemed) and graduated together. James, in her mind, was basically like having a second brother that actually got her, different from how she felt about her own siblings. She didn’t have to be guarded around him and the rest of the Potters. That was probably why escaping to their house or the Burrow led to the best memories of her childhood. It didn’t matter how great her parents were when her siblings weren’t up to par with what she expected out of them. As for the girl that James seemed to maybe know, both guessing at each other’s name, Harper stood idly by. He explained that she was the sister of Yas, who they had gone to school with. Harper was pretty sure she knew who that was. “A year younger than us?” she asked, only remembering that if this was the girl she was thinking of, she was a year younger and maybe in Hufflepuff. “Nice to meet you, by the way,” she added, pulling her hand from the safety of her jacket pocket to wave at the other girl. It was too cold out still to be leaving exposed skin out, in her opinion. The mere thought of standing here for too long already made her not want to do a motorcycle photoshoot the next morning, but she had already promised to do so. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

February 20, 2026 The young man confirmed that he was James, and Yara was pleasantly surprised that she had been correct on her first try. A lot of white people tended to look the same to her, like one of those clickbait articles about if it was actually possible to tell which generic actor was which. James asked her how she was, too, and she smiled slightly.
"I'm well, thanks," she answered him, nodding to him briefly but also looking towards the young woman who was with him whom she didn't know.
"This is my cousin, Harper," James told her, then explaining to Harper that she was Yas's sister. So Harper knew Yas, too, Yara presumed from what James was saying. "I don’t know if you remember her from school," he added, though, which made it seem like maybe they didn't know each other after all.
Harper seemed to know who James was talking about. "A year younger than us?" she asked. Yara didn't have a good idea of who had been in what years when other than that she knew when Yas had attended Hogwarts. "Nice to meet you, by the way," she added in any case.
"It's nice to meet you, Harper," Yara agreed, her smile widening towards Harper. "I'm Yara El Fayed," she explained. "Yasmin El Fayed is my older sister."

the more that you say the less I know Nobody should, and nobody would have been surprised that James immediately roped somebody he knew into his current conversation. It was easy for him and always had been, but James was also simply just not a quiet person. Still, anything muggle-related was interesting for him, though he did not have the brain for such things as Harper did. In fact, if there was ever a doubt that his grandfather was Arthur Weasley, all one had to do was hand James an unfamiliar muggle item and watch him try to figure out what the buttons did.
”Do you work in this part of London?” James tried to recall what Yas had mentioned about her sister. But he recalled she was younger but couldn’t remember if she was still in school. Asking about work seemed like a safe bet. ”I was asking Harper if I could borrow her motorbike for a picture.” James pulled out his phone again, unlocking the home screen. It had taken a little time, but he’d gotten the hang of it and wasn’t locked out his messages for fifteen minutes at a time anymore. ”Do you use this app? It’s fascinating.” Again, it wasn’t odd to see the highly trained Hitwizard turn into a small child on Christmas morning with these things.

▲ A lot came rushing back once she heard Yas's full name again. It'd been years since she had seen some of her former classmates, even longer for the ones that were a few years difference. Hogwarts sort of sucked in that way. Once you graduated, there were very few ways you could see old friends until they were also finished. Hogsmeade trips were only once per month and almost never aligned in the way she hoped, and Quidditch matches had the students separated from the regular crowd. As great as the school was, Harper disliked the seclusion a lot. Even more so now that she was done and gone. Only seeing friends and cousins during breaks for seven years and change really made it difficult to ever do anything productive. At least in the case of James, they were the same age. Built in friends from the get-go. Harper knew there probably wasn't much she could add to the conversation s she didn't now Yas nearly as well as James apparently did. He immediately went into telling Yara about their conversation about the motorcycle, and how they were planning on taking pictures with it. She only realized then how embarrassing it sounded that neither of them really knew what or how the muggle photo apps worked. She liked to think she was slightly better at all of them, though she never downloaded them for personal use. Having the phones charmed to prevent any leaks was way more important to her than how muggles perceived her lifestyle. According to some cousins though, she'd have millions of likes if she posted pictures of her bike more often. That seemed slightly invasive to her though... MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

February 20, 2026 "Do you work in this part of London?" James asked her after she had introduced herself to Harper, his cousin.
"Not really," Yara answered him. She didn't work in that area, but she also didn't technically "work" at all. Imperial College London, where she studied, wasn't really that far, and neither was Chelsea, where she and her sister lived. It wasn't as though she was somewhere on the other side of the river, like Lewisham. That would have been far. "I'm waiting for Yas," she explained, suddenly wondering how witches and wizards perceived distance if they could Apparate and Disapparate whenever they wanted. If the Hounds and Harriers was practically a few steps away, what was the point in having a train to Hogwarts?
"I was asking Harper if I could borrow her motorbike for a picture," James also elaborated. Harper stayed quiet about it, even though it was apparently her motorcycle that James wanted to borrow. Maybe she wasn't so thrilled about that idea.
He unlocked his phone and sounded highly interested in whatever he was pulling up despite Harper's silence. "Do you use this app? It's fascinating."
Yara didn't want to sound as though she didn't have a life offline, but she was an active social media user on multiple platforms. She wasn't as familiar with the magical social media networks that had come into existence, though she knew the Muggle ones like the back of her hand.
Honestly, Yara thought that James would have been hard-pressed to find someone in the Muggle world in their late teens to earlier twenties who wasn't on at least one social media outlet of some sort. Casually engaging with social media didn't really require any specific technical know-how, except for basic computer skills or an understanding of a touchscreen. It would shock magical people, Yara imagined, to see how many Muggle toddlers could operate tablet computers with ease.
Trying to balance James's excitement with the fact that Harper hadn't chimed in, Yara replied. "Yeah, I study computers at university…" she explained to James awkwardly. She then turned her attention to Harper, not wanting to exclude her. "So you have a motorcycle?"
