Tess had been asked to temporarily take the post of DADA professor when Waltons left the school for personal reasons. She was nervous, but knew she shouldn't be because she knew many of the students from the Library and they knew that she was just filling in. Still, she wanted to give them a great education for as long as she was babysitting the post. The students who were in the class now had gone through six whole years of it, and clearly were very well practiced since they passed their O.W.L.S exams in order to sign up this year. This meant that Tess had to make sure they were getting what they needed.
Today they were going to work on something that Tess found to be extremely valuable when it came to defending oneself: Spell Resistance. There were some that could do this naturally, namely part giants and some more advanced cases-like Harry Potters resistance to the Imperius Curse. However, it was something that could be learned-though it was very hard work. There are three steps to learning Spell Resistance: Learning the basics of Occlumens, non-verbal spells and emotional control. Though it may work for resiting some spells, it most likely won't help in terms of jinxes and charms that affect the body outwardly.
Tess has learned about Spell Resistance when she was off exploring the world with her fellow werewolves. Many of them had mastered the art and some could even use it when in wolf form. Tess was nowhere near that advanced, but she had enough skills to teach the students the basics. Today, they would be working on the 'Non-verbal spells' portion of this skill.
Harry Potter Wiki ResourceNotes: I'm going to need your guys input on this at some points, either way, should be fun figuring out how to do this logically! XD @samuel @mercy @crystal2 cordelia regan smith @lyncis @kay @alice @remy @theodorus @kit @corianderpepsi @james @abigail @joanna @marcia @cainedge Tess will post three times. An Intro, an assignment and a closing.

Defence Against the Dark Arts; another chapter in Elias' busy schedule around Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. On Elias' part not much could be said about the class. While it was one of his more favoured subjects in the school he still had to go through the effort of waking, walk all the way up to the first floor, sit in class and listen to Professor Walton preach about Dementors or something along those lines. As depressing as the class sounded it really wasn't that bad though. Professor Walton barely gave any homework and if it wasn't for all the practical work they did in class, Elias would have found the lessons to be profoundly boring.
In actual fact they were quiet captivating. Learning how to defend oneself from a Lethifold was much better than staring into crystal balls and 'predicting' the future. Elias didn't like Divination much. He honestly saw it as a waste of time more than anything. As powerful as wizards were, Elias doubted they could develop a skill in which allowed them to foresee the happenings of tomorrow. It sounded absurd and too far fetched, even for the magical world.
Exiting the Great Hall, Elias made his way to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom for his first lesson for the day. Walking into the class upon arrival, he couldn't help but notice that he was for once the first to arrive. He found himself smiling, but his own punctuality wasn't the cause of his glee. Standing by the teachers desk was the familiar sight of Miss Rawlins, the school librarian whom he liked to tick off so much.
"Miss Rawlins!" Elias spoke loudly as if he were talking to a friend. A grin formed on the already happy features of his face and he was soon stepping forwards towards the glass-wearing librarian. "What a pleasant surprise this is." and indeed it was. At this point Elias didn't care about Professor Waltons whereabouts. Miss Rawlins was the last person he expected to run into here and he was planning on making the best out of it before Walton came back. "If I knew that you were coming I would have brought you flowers, madame." Elias teased with a wink as he sat down on the table directly in front of her. "What brings you here my love?" he asked with a silly smile.

The rumors were spreading like wildfire, a new professor for DADA. Samuel couldn’t say he knew how to react to this news considering he’d grown comfortable with the former Professor’s Methods throughout his seven years here at Hogwarts. He assumed after a while he’d grow used to the new Professor, but he’d never been one for change. He sat wondering if the syllabus would change, what new things they’d learn this term, among many other questions. He also wondered if this Professor was just as apt to partner people during every class, something he always loathed, but he understood the importance of it during this class, considering to understand, truly understand the course, you needed to practice the spells, which was something one could not do on their own.
Samuel walked into class, rather early compared to most students, considering not many were in the classroom. He stopped dead in his tracks for a few moments, as realization hit him to who the temporary Professor was going to be. His eyes went wide as a bit of a grin etched out onto his face. “Hello, Ms. Rawlins” he couldn’t help but to smile because this was one of the only staff members, Sam had ever felt comfortable with. This could be because he always hung out in the Library and not a day didn’t go by that Sam would step foot into that room filled with books, he loved it there. “I-I mean...Professor Rawlings?” Even with his mixture of delight, it didn’t stop him from going to his usual spot in the back of the room, plopping down as he began to take his books out of his bag.

Defense Against the Dark Arts was probably the most important class for Abby to be taking right now, considering she was going to try for the Auror training program. She arrived early, which was a new thing for her. It was strange to step into the room and only see three people there. "Ms. Rawlins!" she said in an excited voice. Sure, Tess has busted her many times for snogging people in the stacks, but she was overall a pretty awesome lady. A werewolf too, which was pretty hard core. Even though Abby wasn't much of a library kid-for studying purposes-she knew Tess fairly well. "Sam," Abby nodded as she passed the Ravenclaw boy in order to head right up to the front, dropping her bag off on a desk before leaning on Ms. Rawlins table with both hands flattened on it, "Ignore this guy, Tess," she gestured to Elias and rolled her eyes, lifting a hand to attempt dumping her dear friend off the desk.
"But he does bring up a good point, what are you doing here?" she asked, cocking her head to one side and raising an eyebrow at the librarian out of place. She had heard that Professor Grey had ended up having an emergency-taking the King girls along with him. Waaaaait, was Tess teaching their class! Abby smiled excitedly at the thought. Oh, it would be weird to call her Professor.

Cori always looked forward to Defense Against the Dark Arts, but she was in a particularly ornery mood today. She entered the Classroom and didn't even bother saying hello to anybody before heading straight to the back row and sitting a few seats away from Sam. She dropped her bag on the floor and folded her arms across her chest, leaning back in her chair. She closed her eyes, head facing the ceiling and just tried to drown everything out. But then it hit her. Maryn had told her that Professor Grey was going to America with them... so then who...?
She opened her eyes again and looked up to see Tess Rawlins, the Librarian, sitting at the teachers desk. Well, that was sure to be fun-at least some new blood in the classroom was something to look forward to. She leaned forward on her desk now, folding her arms across the top and laying her head down. She'd perk up when class started.

Tess's nerves slowly disappeared as more familiar faces filled into the classroom. She was even glad to see Elias, who sat on her table and started flirting with her, of course. Oh dear, if he had brought flowers she would have been furious. She couldn't help but smile and shake her head at the Slytherin, "First off, get off my desk," she said with a flick of her wand, the desk tipped just a little, but not enough to knock him off. "Second of all, I'm filling in until we get a permanent teacher. I'm going to teach you all how to be werewolves," she winked and chuckled.
She looked up as Sam slipped in. Her smile grew and she waved to the Ravenclaw and friend, "Professor Rawlins is correct, Sam! At last for a few weeks," she knew that he liked to sit in the back, so she didn't say anything to convince him forward. When Abby came skipping up to the front, Tess couldn't help but shake her head before the girl even spoke. Abby was the main offender for snogging in the stacks of the library. Still, she was a delightful girl. "Oh, I always do," she said when Abby suggested that she ignore Elias. "Okay, guys! I'll explain the situation if you'd all sit down!" She laughed, feeling more comfortable and among friends.
As the rest of the students filled in, Tess cleared Elias and Abby from her desk most likely she'd find them snogging in the library later and waited until everyone was there, waiting in their seats. Then, she stood at the head of the class, but her nerves started slowly coming back. Though, she didn't show it. "Hello students! Professor Grey has had to leave due to a family emergency," well, the King girls were practically family, "so I will be taking over the position until we get someone permanent, hopefully," there was some chuckling at that. Considering the position was often cursed with Professors who didn't stick around...
"Today, we will be working on 'non-verbal spells' in an attempt to lead up to Spell Resistance," she started, "Spell Resistance is extremely valuable when it comes to defending yourself. There are some that could do this naturally, namely part giants and some more advanced cases-like Harry Potters resistance to the Imperius Curse. There are three steps to learning Spell Resistance: Learning the basics of Occlumens, non-verbal spells and emotional control. Though it may work for resiting some spells, it most likely won't help in terms of jinxes and charms that affect the body outwardly," she explained, stepping around from the desk with her wand ready.
"So, today we're going to work on nonverbal spells. It's much easier to do sitting down, because your body isn't working as hard. So everyone pick up your wands and choose a target," several targets appeared and floated around the room in the air above them. "Start practicing with sparks only. Very basic and safe. You can start by say the spell out loud, then I wand you to try it non-verbally. You should have discussed non-verbal theory in your sixth year, but now we get to put it into practice," she pointed her wand at a target an, without speaking, shot red sparks right into the center. "The best way to transition is to remember how it feels to cast that spell. Use your sense memory," she continued to give different tips in order to transition into non-verbal spells before gesturing to the targets above. "Go ahead,"

Alina was late and she knew it. But since Defense Against the Dark Arts was by far one of her favorite classes right along with Charms. She hurried down the corridor passing many people and almost knocking over a few first and second years in her rush. Alina finally reached the classroom just as Professor Rawlins was instructing them on what they would be doing today. "So, today we're going to work on nonverbal spells. It's much easier to do sitting down, because your body isn't working as hard. So everyone pick up your wands and choose a target," Nonverbal spells were actually quite easy for Alina and also Nicole. They had been doing them since the very beginning of their sixth year. It was kind of necessary to know how to do nonverbal spells when trying to become an animagus, since it helped in the process. And after a while if you were skilled enough you did not have to use a wand to turn into an animagus thus doing wandless magic as well. She figured that this was along the same lines, all you had to do was remember how the magic feels for particular spells and then say the incantation in your head.
She was in the back of the class room and it seemed that there were still several people missing. Pulling out her wand Alina took a moment to clear her mind, although the thought of casting an actual spell at the target that was before her came across her mind. But this time she decided it would probably be a good idea to follow the instructions that the Professor had given them. Concentrating she tried to cast some sparks at the target but nothing happened. Rolling her eyes at herself she had been distracted by the thought of doing the opposite of what she had been instructed to do. Taking a deep breath Alina cleared her mind once more like she usually did before dueling, and by dueling I do not mean that formal dueling stuff, no I mean actual fighting, you won’t live if you stand around and let yourself get hit, you have to keep moving with a clear mind.
Alina opened her eyes, and her mind and felt the magic as she cast purple sparks at the target and hit it in the center. She smiled to herself and then kept practicing, nonverbal spells always gave you an advantage in a fight, although they were tricky because you had to make sure your mind was clear first.
