It was early in the morning just before the sun would rise. It was a little chilly, and there was dew on everything. But despite the earliness of the day, there was already someone up. Said person was fully awake and flying around the quidditch pitch at Hogwarts. This person was Ronan. He was a chaser for the Gryffindor quidditch team. It was really odd for him to be up this early, especially on a Saturday. He hated early mornings. Ronan had to much on his mind the night before to get any actual sleep, well he did doze off for a bit. But, here he was, having snuck out of the castle, flying along on his Firebolt that he had gotten in his fifth year during Christamas from his dad. He loved flying more than anything it was one of the few things that would calm his mind, and help him think.
There really was so much going on he had all of his homework finished for the week, having done it the night before, maybe that was why he didn't get much sleep or was there something else that had kept him up. One thing that was on his mind but at the same time there was nothing that he could do about it. It was the same thing that everyone else was thinking about, the murder of the first year muggleborn on the the train ride to school. As he flew around the pitch he came to the realization that it would not do him any good to dwell on it. There was something else on his mind, but he couldn't quite figure it out. Whatever it was had woken him up about an hour ago, he wasn't happy about that but decided to come out and fly and to think things over.
Ronan had brought his own quaffle with him, so he could practice shooting, since he was already up and there wasn't really anything else to do this early. He flew down to the ground to pick up the quaffle that he had brought along, and found it to be slick with early morning dew. "Just my luck it has to be wet." He said to himself, since there wasn't anyone else out on the pitch. "Oh well, knowing our luck we will probably be playing in the rain this year anyways, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to practice with a wet quaffle." Picking up the ball Ronan shot up into the sky towards the goal posts. Once he was in position Ronan made shot after shot from various angles, heights and distances.
After about half an hour of practicing, Ronan landed in the middle of the pitch and got off of his broom. He looked around and noticed that he was still alone which was fine with him. He at down on the wet grass and stretched out, while watching the the sun slowly start to rise in between the mountains. If every morning was like this he might learn to enjoy early mornings, but only if they were like this. He heard footsteps somewhere close to the pitch, or were they in the pitch? It didn't really matter to him as he continued to watch the sun rise. But he still took out his wand just in case. Something his dad had always told him, that a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had taught, was to have "Constant Vigilance!". It was always better to be safe than sorry. As he watched the sun, he wondered how long the person had been there, had they been watching him fly? Well only time would tell.

elodie had not signed up for this. her bedside table had been hexed to wake her up early in the morning so she could attend an important knitting club meeting - of course, the young gryffindor girl was perplexed. what could be so important regarding knitting that couldn't wait until the sun had risen? had the knitting needles mutinied? or had the balls of yarn rolled away on their own accord? surely not. but nevertheless, elodie was awake and out of bed, and remarkably, in uniform. this was truly a feat for the girl, who usually wouldn't get up until it was five minutes before she was meant to be in charms class. pulling on her robes, she slung a backpack containing her high profile knitting gear over her shoulder and trudged out of the dormitory, then the common room, down the hall to check the clubs notice board. her heart stopped. of course, of course the knitting meeting wasn't going to be at 6 am. no one got up that early. except, apparently, elodie. she had misread it - it had been at 6 pm, not am. groaning audibly at her own stupidity, she wished she had slept in instead. then, she caught sight of something zooming outside of the corridor window. a boy - flying! in fact, as she squinted closer at him, quaffle under his arm, she realised that she knew this boy. it was none other than ronan finnegan, her partner in quidditch crime. grinning, she glided down the stairs and hurried herself out of the castle until she was at the pitch, then sat herself down to watch. she didn't want him to know she was there - not many liked to have private practice sessions with an audience - but she was awake, and this was at least something to do. ronan had clearly brought his a-game to the pitch that morning, as he was on fire shooting quaffles through hoops. but soon enough, he eased himself back to the ground, as if to watch the sunrise. elodie grinned. "i think you'd get a better view from up there, ronan!" she called out to him from the spot where she had been observing, and gestured up towards where he had been flying before. she smirked. "nice moves, by the way. shame you can't deliver those shots at practice." she teased playfully. even though they were friends, elodie never missed an opportunity to make fun. tagged: ronan words: 409 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

Ronan could only grin as he heard the voice of Elodie, another chaser from the house team. He put his wand away and looked over to where she was sitting. He chuckled a little bit when she started to tease him about not making those shots during practice. But it was normal for this to happen. They would often tease each other during practice, or whenever they hung out. So without a moments hesitation he replied in kind. "Ha, if I remember correctly all the goals I shot last practice, made it through, unlike some one that I know." He drew out the last part of what he said so that she knew he was talking about her. Ronan smirked before he added "You do realize that it is barely six, or whatever time it is, in the morning. And yet here you are in uniform," He raised an eyebrow as if challenging Elodie. "on a Saturday nonetheless."
He wondered why she was even up at this hour, granted he wondered why he was up at this hour. He also knew that she was right and that he would have a better view of the sunrise if he was flying around. Ronan stood up and mounted his broom, but at the same time he summoned Elodie's broom to him. Once he had a hand on her broom Ronan tucked the quaffle under his arm before he flew over to where she sat. And he said. "Well since you are here, would you care to join me?" He grinned and then he set Elodie's broom down next to her before he flew a few feet away from her with the quaffle still tucked under his arm. Ronan turned to see if she was going to join him or not. When he didn't see any indication that she was going to, he shouted "Catch!" Before he threw the quaffle in her direction. He knew that would get her in the air so he wasn't the only one up there.
"If I recall correctly your not a morning person so why are you even up?" Ronan challenged hoping to find out why she was up this early in the morning. He let out a chuckle before he took off towards the the other end of the pitch hoping that she wouldn't hex him like last time, he had challenged her this early in the morning. The last time he had done so was just before an early morning team practice. He ended up going to the hospital wing, with James who laughed at him the entire way there, all the while telling him that it was a bad idea to have challenged her. But he didn't care it was fun and it even got the team out of practice that morning, for which everyone was happy.

elodie pouted at his teasing, but her lips eventually twisted into a smile. he could rip into her quidditch skills all he wanted, she would just send them right back at him. of course, she really did respect his chaser skills, and she never really meant anything she said, but in gryffindor practice, she secretly enjoyed when he missed the goal ring with the quaffle just so she could badger him about it later. but never in an actual game. when ronan noted that she was in uniform, on a saturday she groaned loadly, and put a hand on her hip. "yeah, well, my brain and early mornings don't get along." she scanned his clothes up and down, and with a small smile replied, "and i see you're sporting the newest fashion of wet clothes. looks real comfy." she indicated towards his attire, which looked damp with morning dew. then, without notice, ronan summoned her broom and set off, quaffle under his arm. her eyes narrowed, suspicious. and she was right to be, as ronan's next move was to throw the quaffle at her. she scrambled to catch it, caught off guard, and managed to grasp it despite its wetness. she made a face. wet quaffles were slippery. cocking her head to one side, she mounted her broom and took off, tossing the quaffle to ronan lazily. "give me something harder, finnegan." she smirked. "i can catch worse passes than that, believe me - after all, i have you on my team."as he questioned her motives behind being up this early (she was questioning them herself) he sped off to the other side of the pitch, no doubt preparing for a hard pass of the quaffle. "you know very well what happened last time it was an early morning practice session," she grinned mischievously, "are you missing the hospital wing already?" truth be told, she hadn't meant to hex him that hard, she was just caught in the moment. afterwards, she had felt immensely guilty, though their quidditch captain laughing it off helped a little. she was just glad he felt it was so hilarious and didn't feel the need to kick her off the team for hastily hexing. tagged: ronan words: 375 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

Once he was at the other end of the pitch he looked down at his clothes to see that she was quite right, his clothes were wet from the morning dew. Ronan chuckled before he said. "Well yes they are the newest fashion of wet clothes." He noticed that Elodie was in the air already and when she made a crack about the pass that he had sent at her he decided well two can play at this game. Granted what he was about to do might just end him up in the hospital wing again. But it would be worth it.
"Yes I know what happened last time, but it was great we at least got out of practice that morning. I am still unsure as to why James scheduled a practice that early." He smirked before he decided to go ahead and do what he had planned to do once he had heard her take a stab at his skills. He loved to do this, it was really quite fun to see Elodie get worked up. They were good friends after all, and he could always count on her if he ever needed to talk, and it was the same, he was always willing to listen or to help her out with anything. The easy way that they could banter back and forth was one of the reasons why they had become quick friends.
"I can't say that I miss the place. It is just to boring there." He had visited the hospital wing on several occasions, due to quidditch injuries, blowing things up, etc. But this time it was by his own choosing. He really hoped however that she wouldn't hex him for this. He sighed, and then got a mischievous grin on his face as he watched Elodie draw closer to him. He took out his wand quickly and then he said "Since you admire my new fashion of wet clothes why don't you get some of your own. Which I can totally help you with." He then used a spell that he had learned long ago, that was taught to him by his dad. It was really an easy spell to master, well at least it was for him. The spell would allow you to create water in any form that you wanted it to be in. He said the spell softly so that she wouldn't hear him. In a matter of seconds a small little cloud appeared over Elodie and drenched her with water. The spell dissipated quickly. He laughed and managed to get out. "Well...would you look at that. Now we match!" It was good, but he really had to admit to himself whatever happened next was going to be interesting.

elodie laughed. yeah, james had really not thought that one through. he was an eccentric quidditch captain, and a very, very good one, but scheduling a practice that early had made her think that he didn't know his team as well as he should have. hopefully he wouldn't make that mistake again, otherwise it would probably be him that she would be sending to the hospital wing, not ronan. ronan mentioned that the hospital wing was boring, and she gave out a light laugh. "honestly, what were you expecting? weasley's wizard wheezes?" she joked. she didn't know a single student that hadn't attended the hospital wing on one occasion or another - herself included. she recalled practicing jinxes out when it was snowing the previous winter, and had accidentally managed to freeze her arm solid. luckily, the resident healer's prescription came with unlimited butterbeer, as well as a foul smelling ointment which thawed her arm overnight, with no serious consequences. she wished she had caught the mischievous look on ronan's face instead of drawing closer to him on her broom, and as she listened to his words a sinking feeling dropped in the pit of her stomach. she looked at him, puzzled, then a horrified look crossed her face as he drew his wand, waved it, and she felt drops of water began to pitter patter on her shoulders. the next second, the small cloud above her head was bucketing water over her, drenching her clothes and soaking her hair. then, as quickly as it came, it stopped, the clouds dispersing, wisps fading into the air. she stood motionless for a second, droplets of water falling from her robes and hair and onto the pitch below. then, registering what had happened, her hand dived to her knee high sock where she usually kept her wand, and froze. she had left it in her dormitory. she swore loudly, then looked at ronan with an appearance of sheer fury. "ohh, you are going to SO get it!" she growled, and tore off on her broom after him. she was gonna knock him off his broom, even if it was the last thing she did at this school. it was on. tagged: ronan words: 369 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

Ronan was laughing so hard at the look of fury on Elodie's face. It was priceless. He regained his composure just as he saw Elodie fly towards him at top speed. He quickly dove towards the ground as she was almost to him and he tore off down the pitch. He stopped about ten feet off the ground. He was in the middle of the pitch. Ronan knew that it would be better to let her catch him, and knock him off his broom than to continue. But he had an idea.
Ronan turned towards the blur that was Elodie as she drew closer to him. "Hey Elle my grandma can fly better than that and she's dead!" He shouted just trying to get her even more riled up than she already was. He thought for a second or two and realized that she didn't have her wand. He could only smirk at her forgetfulness. It really astounded him that she had forgotten it. He came to the conclusion that this morning really wasn't her morning. It wasn't his either but he was up.
"Come on already!" Ronan was just asking for and he knew it. They had done this several times before, even during practice sometimes. James yelled at them for it but he always let it go since he found it so hilarious. Ronan never heard the end of it either, James would always tease him about it. But hey what are friends for right? He truly enjoyed teasing Elodie, it was one of the things that kept their friendship strong and they always had a lot of fun doing it. They had become friends a long time ago, well at least it seemed that way but it really was only in second year that they had become friends.

just as the young gryffindor girl was about to make it to her friend, he ducked and dived underneath her, and flew to the middle of the pitch. she made an incredibly sharp swerve to a halt, the momentum of which nearly knocking her off her cleansweep. she eyed the boy warily. elodie flushed a deep shade of red as ronan quipped at her flying skills. not, of course, because she was self conscious about them – rather, she, as a teenage gryffindor, found it a hard job to keep her temper. ”oh, you’re just asking for it!” she grinned, and instinctively dug her hand into her sock for her wand, forgetting that she had forgotten it in her moment of adrenalin, and instead pulled out two knitting needles. flushing even deeper, she threw them down to the pitch in exasperation. then, in a spark of inspiration remembering her sharp turn, she tore off after him again. she was gaining speed quickly, and building up momentum as she edged her broomstick faster and faster. then, just as she was about to collide with ronan so hard that he would surely make a visit to the resident healer, she swerved to a halt as she had done before. the force of the stop made her bump into her friend with enough power to leave a bruise on his side. she smirked. ”watch yourself, finnegan, or my knitting needles won’t be the only things scattered across the quidditch pitch.” she grinned, then poked her tongue out mischievously. tagged: ronan words: 254 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

Glad that she had stopped before she hit him, Ronan winced a little when she bumped into him. It really didn't hurt at all, but he wasn't going to tell her that. ”watch yourself, finnegan, or my knitting needles won’t be the only things scattered across the quidditch pitch.” Ronan smirked "Is that so? Exactly how do you plan on making me, ... how did you put it?" He put a finger to his mouth as if he was thinking really hard. "Oh yeah, scattered across the quidditch pitch?" Ronan glanced down for a second to see how high up they were. It didn't seem that far maybe ten feet. He chuckled a bit when she poked her toung out at him.
Not wanting to see the reaction of that James would have if they both ended up in the hospital wing due to broken bones, since falling ten feet could possibly break their bones. He waved his wand, cast a cushioning charm below them. He put his wand back into it's holster on his leg, before he shouted "Hey Elle! Catch!" Ronan dove off of his broom towards Elodie. He collided with her and grabbed her as the momentum carried them both off of her broom, which he had barely even touched. They fell to the ground, in what should have broken a bone or to but didn't. Because once they were a couple of feet off the ground, the speed of which they fell slowed down enough to break their fall. Those were the effects of the Cushioning charm that he had cast. Once they hit the ground he let go of Elodie and looked at her before saying. "Well it looks like you won't have to scatter me all over the pitch. And it looks like you even decided to join me." Ronan grinned. "How nice of you." He then threw his arms and legs out in a position that looked like he was just resting there, he even had a hand behind his head. He looked for their brooms and saw them a few feet away lying on the ground with the quaffle.
Ronan could only smirk, everything that had kept him from hours of sleep were pushed to the back of his mind as they bantered back and forth. He might tell her why he was up this early but he wasn't sure he wanted to do that just yet. There thoughts started to creep back towards the front of his mind but he was able to push them back to the back of his mind. Ronan was having fun and he wasn't about to let depressing thoughts and topics dampen or ruin the fun that he was having.

Elodie rolled her eyes at him. It was true – she never would really be able to inflict the damage to the degree she wanted on ronan without her wand, and her revenge would never be satisfied. It was okay when it was her wand doing the work, but her? No way. She couldn’t even imagine herself slapping anyone, let alone knocking them off their broomstick intentionally. However, she had once nearly knocked a Slytherin in the year below off his broom by accidentally throwing a quaffle at his face, as she had been slightly distracted by how surprisingly good looking he was. Instead of getting in trouble, she was the laughing stock of the quidditch team for a week, which was punishment enough, and her aim never suffered again. She looked up at Ronan who had just called catch, and she was expecting the quaffle and braced herself. However, what she received was not the quaffle, but ronan himself. She let out a shrill scream as he crashed over her, and suddenly she was hurtling towards the ground – until their fall slowed, and she was gently lowered onto the dewy grass below. She scowled at him – he had pranked her again. ”I swear on Merlin’s knickers, Ronan, I will get you back for this.” she snapped, then grinned. ”and believe me, if we had been up in the air for five more minutes I would have had you sprawled across the pitch like a bunch of stunned cornish pixies.”She turned over onto her stomach, resting her head on her hands, looking up at her friend. ”so what the hell were you doing just now?” she asked curiously, referring to his early flight lesson. ”are you trying to one-up me next quidditch game by getting in more practice? Because you know no matter how much you train, you’ll just never be as good as me.” she smiled cockily. tagged: ronan words: 318 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

"Why would you need five more minutes to successfully knock me off my broom. I'd say you were pretty close earlier." Ronan shot back before laughing at the image that had just popped up in his head. It was an image of a bunch of cornish pixies scattered all over the pitch. It would be quite funny to see that. He looked over at Elodie who was now resting her head in her hand while looking up at him. He knew that she didn't make idle threats, but then yet again neither did he.
Just who was she to ask what had he been doing now, was the first thought that crossed his mind. The answer was simple, she was his friend if not one of his best friends so that gave her every right and it was a harmless question. He didn't mind it at all, actually. "Uh huh." Ronan raised an eyebrow as she teased him about her being better than he was. He wasn't going to let that go. "Elle, if I remember correctly who has scored more goals?" They were actually tied for scoring the most goals during the season and equally talented on the pitch. No one could stop them once they got going. "But if you insist on what I was doing, then I guess I can tell you. Just like you I am not a morning person. I came out here because I couldn't sleep. I had to much on my mind, granted it all went away once you came out here. And I decided a little extra practice would help." He smiled gratefully at Elodie before he looked up into the sky.
Ronan was glad that he could trust Elodie. There were things that he could tell her and talk to her about. It seemed to him that she always knew what he needed to feel better if he was having a rough day, and most times she would get him to open up and talk to her about what was going on in his mind. These were things that he could never talk to the guys about without having them trying to tease him or try to take the mickey out of him. He treasured his friendship with Elodie and it made him always feel better after he talked to her or spent time with her. He also knew that it was the same way for her, granted he never heard her say it. It showed in their actions how much they trusted each other.

Elodie laughed. She was so competitive with Ronan, that they always counted their own goals so that they could show off to each other later on. Elodie had been winning for the first half of last year’s season, until Ronan suddenly had a streak of brilliant games, and from then on they had been neck and neck. She thought that it was because the competition brought out the best in both of them – like the true gryffindors that they were, neither could stand losing. Elodie’s mouth fell slightly agape when Ronan said he couldn’t sleep. ”wait, you couldn’t sleep, like – at all? You’ve been awake since… since yesterday morning?” this was a complete culture shock to the young girl, who’s sleep truly was her most cherished time. To think that he hadn’t even got a wink of sleep, yet here he was, practicing quidditch… he had a lot on his mind? Sure sounded like it. ”Ro, I know I give you all kinds of crap all the time, but…” she paused, trying to find the best way to word what she was about to say. They had been friends for ages, but it was mostly based on fun stuff, like bagging each other out. ”I just want you to know that… you can talk to me, you know? About things that are bugging you. You’re my mate, and I’m here for you, okay?” She wanted him to trust her – obviously there must be a lot going on in his life right now if it was causing the usual sleeping lion to have restless nights. And thought she wasn’t expecting him to instantly pour out all his secrets unto her, she at least wanted him to know that he had the option. tagged: ronan! words: 291 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

"Well I think I did doze off once or twice for an hour or so, but that is about it." Ronan said as he was asked if he hadn't slept since yesterday morning. ”I just want you to know that… you can talk to me, you know? About things that are bugging you. You’re my mate, and I’m here for you, okay?” Once he heard that he felt a little better and decided that he might as well tell her. "Thanks Elle. I am here too if you ever need anything." He smiled at her and then he turned his attention back towards the sky which was slowly brightening up.
Ronan turned towards Elodie and said. "Well I am not really sure as to why I couldn't sleep. I mean I had just finished my homework and my brain felt like mush from all that homework so I went up to my dorm and tried to sleep. But apparently my mind had other ideas and kept me up all night." He sighed "Well that is until I had enough of that and came out here." He wasn't really sure if he should comment on it or not, since it had been on everyone's minds since the train ride. "At some point I ended up thinking about that first year muggleborn who was on the train. I mean who would ever kill an innocent person?" He knew the answer to that question, and it was simple. Death Eaters. It is what they had done the last time, during the two wars with Voldemort. He had heard all of the stories from his parents, and the parents of his friends, what the death eaters had done. He wished he could do something about it but he knew that he couldn't.
"And then I began think about just random things. However there was something else that was keeping me awake. Cause I have thought about the incident on the train before but it has never kept me awake. I am just not sure what it is." Ronan looked back towards the sky trying to figure out just what exactly was it that had kept him awake last night.

elodie’s heart skipped a beat as ronan mentioned the murdered student. it wasn’t really talked about, since it was such a sensitive issue. it had become an almost taboo subject. so when her friend brought it up, it reminded her of the reality of the situation. it was so easy to pretend like life was normal, when actually, they were all in great danger. and for a second, elodie was reminded to be in fear. but she quickly realised that she was here for ronan, and a wave of sympathy washed over her. she lightly put her hand on his shoulder and gave a squeeze. ”i… i really don’t know, ro. but i know how you feel.”elodie felt anxiety tighten up her insides. whoever it was… well, there was a fat chance that they were still on hogwarts grounds, wasn’t there? ”do you think they’re still here? you know… planning?” she whispered, then shuddered. to think that there would soon be another victim rattled her. she wanted to be safe, but more than that. she wanted to protect others. it wasn’t fair that muggleborns were being targeted. and what if half bloods were apparently off the list, too? or ‘half breeds’, as some vile magical folk liked to call people like her friend carcer? ”i… i want to stop it. i don’t want it to get worse than it already is.” she said, more convincing herself out loud than ronan. tagged: Ronan! words: 241 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

”i… i really don’t know, ro. but i know how you feel.” Ronan smiled as he felt Elodie's hand on his shoulder. "Thanks Elle." He knew that this subject bothered everyone not just him. He noticed that Elodie shuddered when she had asked him if he thought that the killer was at Hogwarts. Ronan wasn't sure how to respond. "I think..." He stumbled a little as he was about to say no, but his instincts were telling him different. "Elle, yes I think that they are still here planning their next move." He then moved over next to where Elodie was and placed his arm around her shoulders in a comforting way. Because he could tell this really bothered her, hell it bothered him too. But he knew that they would have to keep an eye out for each other during these times. And that they would need their friends to get through this.
Ronan turned his head to look at Elodie and smiled a little when he heard the conviction in her voice. ”i… i want to stop it. i don’t want it to get worse than it already is.” He could only agree and nodded his head and said "I know Elle. I want it to stop too. But until it does stop and whomever is caught we have to look out for each other and our friends." Ronan had a feeling that they would get through this but only if they stayed unified and learned how to duel and do things of the sort. It just meant that they would have to be on their guard always and that they needed to have 'Constant Vigilance!' Like his dad kept reminding him. "I can't promise you that anything won't happen, cause we both know that things will probably get worse before they get better. However, I can promise you this. I will do my best to make sure that nothing happens to you, and like I said before, I am always here for you if you ever need anything. Okay?"
