@lestrange
it was always slightly strange for him to walk back into the leaky cauldron. but it felt like the first home he'd ever had and that's where he'd sought out comfort in the weeks after his wife's death. it was so strange to think of her as gone. he'd only just began to really think of her as his wife and now she was gone. taken from him in the place he'd finally felt like would be able to escape the past, the pain he'd grown up with and around. but the people who followed the same ideals that had caused him so much pain growing up had taken the one good thing he'd done with his life.
he was back in the uk after a dig that he'd asked to go on. gringotts had offered him time off, he'd taken a week and then he'd needed to go back to doing something. he'd never been good at sitting and stewing and keeping his mind busy helped. sleep was almost impossible without seeing her face. without being flooded with feelings of guilt that he hadn't followed her. the last time he'd seen her had been in the midst of an argument with her family. she'd stormed out and all he could think about now is how he should have gone after her.
he rubbed his hand over the back of his neck as he sat at one of the tables in the back of the pub, half in shadow and half in light. he felt the coolness of the gold band that was still on his finger touch the skin on his neck and he felt something of a cold shudder ripple through him. he knew he needed to take if off, his wife was gone and wearing his ring wouldn't bring her back, but he couldn't do it yet. he'd ordered a bottle of whiskey and it was sitting in the middle of the table, it was taking all he had not to reach forward and crack it open, but he'd wait for andy.
he was meeting her at the cauldron. their parents had been in each other's pockets while they'd been growing up and now he was an adult, had pretty much lived with her when they'd graduated hogwarts and they'd worked together, she was now someone that he'd dare to call a good friend. he rubbed his hands together lightly as his leg bounced up and down under the table. that was new, he'd never had any problem controlling his body before but now, now it seemed that he had to keep moving or he'd fall into darkness.
