It had started as most of the content Camila saw about herself often did, on the internet. She knew not to give too much thought to what other people wrote about her, especially when she knew that it was usually flawed somehow. If she were to let everyone and everything get into her head all the time, Camila knew, her life would have been made ten times harder than it needed to be. The world was enough of a mess as it was, enough to make anyone stressed. Being a celebrity amplified that in some ways, true, but she knew that it wasn't just her.
Between all the news of the new Minister Root and the fact that Hogwarts would not be able to reopen to its students following the fire that had damaged it, one particular article from a notoriously gossipy publication back home in Argentina had been doing the rounds on Vibe. While its words were only in Spanish for the time being, she had seen numerous fan translations of it for those who didn't speak the language. Regardless, the point was clear: They had gone beyond reporting about her.
The subject of the publication's interest was Ilija, and his name among all the celebrity gossip was still strange for Camila. She had tried her best to keep him and his life out of the spotlight, but it was apparent that she could only do so much. Not only was this tabloid writing about him; they were claiming that they had just unveiled his biggest secrets. Expecting it to be something that she already knew, Camila had almost stopped reading. She didn't, though, and she kept seeing mentions of Ilija's having a wife and child, both of whom were deceased.
The more she read into it, the more Camila knew that she couldn't just put out a statement and leave it at that. She wasn't sure how true the rumors were, but she kept seeing the same names over and over again. The girl, his apparent wife, was named Hannah, and the tabloid was saying that she had died not in childbirth but after her infant son.
Confused about it all and feeling slightly hurt that Ilija hadn't told her about any of this—at least if it were really true, she reminded herself—Camila closed Vibe. After trying to compose a text message that sounded right to her and failing at it after what felt like the millionth time, she sent a voice message to Ilija and hoped that her lack of confidence in that moment wasn't audible in her tone.
"Hi, Ili. I know that it is late now… Um, I have a question for you, but I think it will be better if we talk in person? Okay, um… I love you."
She hit the button to send the message and let out a sigh once she knew that her voice was no longer being recorded, leaning back against the pillows on her bed.
