”Yup, it’s been almost a month..” he shared with her, feeling proud of himself when he heard the surprise in her voice, but when he admitted it out loud…fuck, he really wanted a cigarette dangling from his lip again. ”I still indulge in other activities..” he admitted to Luna. Referring mostly to weed and drinking, but there was certainly other substances, general debauchery...
Well, Simon should have thought twice before upping the stakes for the winner. He saw the fireworks spurt from the center of the hedge and fairies doing celebrator cartwheels. Simon let out a drunken howl on made and he let out a drunken howl of laughter, feet stomping the floor heavily as he ran. At least no one else would be able to hear them inside the eery maze. As Luna called for him to meet her, he turned the corner and was elated to see her again. She was certainly a sight for sore eyes. Simon caught her in his arms breathlessly, spinning her around in a drunken excitement as they both boiled over with laughter.
The blonde pulled away to look at his face, declaring that it was time for him to tell her she was the best quidditch player. The half vampire looked down at her, staggering slightly from the alcohol taking over his equilibrium but he agreed after a moment of contemplation. There was a natural high of endorphines overcoming him from that run.
Simon cupped his hands to amplify his voice, ”Luna Treleway is the best quidditch player who's ever lived!" the young man bellowed to the sky, huffing and puffing to regain his breath before continuing. "And the most beautiful girl my eyes have ever seen.” he upped the stakes, looking at her with a drunken joyous smile. Simons lips were moving but he couldn't stop them.

Luna was quite proud of Simon's admission that he had quit smoking a month ago. She wondered if her vision and their subsequent expedition had scared the craving out of him. A silver lining, if unexpected. Though it didn't take long for her to find the centre of the maze, Luna felt trepidation creep up her spine, the huge hedges looming over her, the solitude settling in. She waited a few moments for Simon to turn up, and when he didn't do so at once, panic gripped her and she sent up sparks to mark her position.
Relief swept through Luna at the sight of her teammate. She told herself that it was just because she didn't like these dark, enclosed spaces, not that she was glad for it to be Simon. If she could be honest with herself, Luna knew that her feelings for Simon had long since surpassed those of two teammates - she didn't know when exactly it had happened, but there had been a turning point in her relationship with Simon. It had turned from flippant and fun to love. And Luna was petrified of that.
Thankfully, she could lie to herself almost as well as she could lie to others. So Luna said nothing, convincing herself that she was going mad. Luna prompted Simon to shout out the truth, and a smirk curled her lips. But her blood ran cold, and the smirk slid promptly from her face at his next words. Surely, he was just drunk. After rejecting her so thoroughly in the past, there was no way that Simon really thought she was the most beautiful girl. Luna squashed the hope that there was as much truth in that statement as the first and untangled herself from Simon. She tried to brush off his comment. "Oh, ha ha, very funny Svendson. Lies won't get you that far in this moment," she said quickly. "Come on, this place is creepy, let's go back to the party," she added, her breath hitching slightly.

The expression on Luna's face should have been a good enough indicator that she wasn't pleased with the sentiment that had left Simon's lips. With good reason, honestly. Earlier that year, Simon had rejected her with quite the opposite statement, confessing he loved 'someone else'. Claudia Watkins. That ship had sailed after an explosive fight with Nate and now he was dealing with a change of heart that truly conflicted his thinking. Simon's was spinning from his own stupidity because he wasn't sure what to say next. He knew he shouldn't have said it once the words fell from his lips, but her reaction of downright denial almost made him want to convince her it was the truth. Bad habits, died strong... He always had an infamous reputation at school for being a player, but he wasn't trying to play Luna. Not anymore... His expression flickered, faltering slightly. "I mean it." he insisted sweetly, a hint of seriousness, but he was unsure what he was trying to do. The alcohol and maze were surely warping his way of thinking after all of the whiskey and bubbly, and running. Simons face softened, missing Luna's touch now that she had untangled herself from him with a slightly dissatisfied look. "You're not like anyone I've met before, Luna. You make me feel a certain type of way and it kind of freaks me out." Simon told her as he ended with a hesitant smile. The drunken high was surely blurring his inhibitions, but the look on his face appeared truthful enough. It came from the depths of his heart and he would regret that later. Drunken word vomit would probably be his demise. LUNA LACHESIS TRELAWNEY

Luna faced Simon, stock still. She was certain her face had drained of all colour of his admission. The look in his eyes told Luna that he believed what he was saying. That she was special. That somehow, in some twist of fate, he cared for her. Her lips parted as she stood there, unable to move, unwilling to speak. She had tried to brush him off but he was insistent. She made him feel a certain type of way.
Colour returned to Luna's face, forgoing scarlet and settling on puce. "That's not fair," said Luna, grinding out the words. She gripped the silken fabric of her dress, desperate to cling onto something real. Because this couldn't be happening. She hadn't seen it coming. Luna had never expected for this fling to turn into something more. Months of denial, weeks of seeking out Simon's touch, all fell at once upon her shoulders. "That's not fair at all," she repeated, her scowl deepening. "You think that you can play me like that? Well, I'm not a game of Quidditch, Svendson. No one was supposed to have feelings. That way, neither of us could get hurt!" she exclaimed, throwing up her arms in aggravation. This was not how things were supposed to go.
Luna took a step back, jarring herself into reality. "We're teammates. And I'm a seer. And I didn't see this," she said quickly, trying to make sense where sense couldn't be made. How could Simon Svendson - Simon Svendson - be saying these things about her? True, he had gone to lengths to protect her, to befriend her and she had done the same for him. When they had both been lonely, it only made sense for such a familiar shoulder to be the one she would cry on. Luna should have put a stop to it when they'd started growing closer, spending time together. She should never have slept with him again - but wasn't this what she wanted? Deep down? Yes, said that tiny, desperate voice. You feel the same, it went on, but Luna stubbornly quashed it.
Huffing indignantly, Luna spun around and marched back out of the centre of the maze. "I think I'll go home. I'm not much in the mood for a party anymore." Luna couldn't keep herself from stealing a backwards glance at Simon. But she forced herself onwards, apparating away with a loud crack.

Everything in Simon wanted to tell luna ‘Forget I said that’, but she was already turning on the heel of her foot and leaving in a hurry. Her tone and face were hurt. Simons gut pinched, heart dropping as she denied him. What else was he expecting? Simon had broken his number one rule in friends with benefits by allowing his emotions to get ahead of him, yet again.
Suddenly the world around him was spiraling down. The happiness that had been boiling over in his insides moments ago, now non existent. Luna started to leave, obviously angry at him. Simon was angry at himself.
His eyes widened, confused. ”Luna, no. Wait-” he begged, starting toward her as she looked behind her shoulder.
A loud crack followed and she was gone. Simon was suddenly alone in the still hedge maze, an eery chill ran up his spine as a sigh passed his lips, baffled at how quickly things went downhill. That was a huge mistake. Practice was surely going to be tense. Fuck.
