PERSONALITY Curious: Always looking for a new adventure – new shooting locations for a video, the small and tucked away parts of the world that don’t get noticed much but carry an amazing story. Vivian loves stories, loves learning new things and discovering the hidden beauty of the world. She’s restless, and can’t stay in one place too long. Not when there’s so much to be discovered! Imaginative: She’s good with her hands, and loves to use scraps to fix broken things and make new ones. She can envision something from nothing, see things that aren’t there yet or could be so much better. And she’s not limited to the old way of thinking – Viv is fascinated with Muggles and the ways they’ve learned to cope without magic. In her creations, in her work, you can always see Vivian’s innovative thought process and her desire to do things new and better. Playful: Life is too short not to smile. Vivian’s inherited her father’s love for pranks, but never with a mean edge to it. She likes to make people laugh, and brighten their day if she sees tense shoulders or a lined face. The world can be ugly, but it can be beautiful too. Depends what you’re looking for, because you’ll usually find it. Insightful: She doesn’t accept the surface-level as the only explanation – whether it be an object that only performs one simple task or a person that seems to be as shallow as a pond. And when she’s looking for stories, she never stops pushing for the bottom line (especially with her constant hunch that there’s more to a story than what it seems like). Naïve: Vivian was never good at throwing off authority like her father, and she grew up safe and protected. She’s only just starting to get her first real taste of the world, and when you’re a little fish in a big pond? It’s easy to be taken advantage of. But in her view – nothing broken is past the point of repair. Absentminded: Always a million things on her mind, and you can see it when she talks out-loud to herself or leaves a million half-done to-do lists everywhere. And hobbies? She picks up and discards hobbies quickly as her curiosity strikes her. Only a few things have stayed present throughout her life, and that’s how you know that it has value to her. Brittle: Viv wants to be strong, the type of girl that can just demand what she wants and get it. But she’ll break at the first sign of pressure, maybe angry tears or even just freezing up and being unable to make a decision. She can seem tough, her field does require the ability not to take no for an answer, but she’s too soft and you can see that at the slightest push. Resentful: She dwells on the past, and finds it hard to let it go. Sometimes it’s the distant past – why do her parents have to loom so large? It makes it impossible to be their follow-up act in anything she does. And sometimes it’s more recent – why did she have to go out that night? Now she has to live with this condition for the rest of her life. Vivian regrets the past, and she can’t help but be a little resentful. Always looking for someone else to blame. Legacy: It’s a tough balance – how do you honor where you came from while still becoming your own person? Vivian always felt pressured to follow in her parents’ footsteps, to be the best Quidditch commentator at Hogwarts and even reviving her father’s old wartime show. It’s an insane amount of pressure sometimes, but how can she say no when she sees how proud it makes him? She wants to remember the past, but she's afraid of...losing herself, and her own voice. Is all she'll ever be just Lee Jordan's kid? ORIGIN & RELATIONS Ottery St Catchpole, England. Father: Lee Jordan, pro Quidditch commentator Mother: Alicia Spinnet, retired pro Quidditch player and current scout Drizzle: beloved puffskein, Potterwatch ‘co-host’ HISTORY It doesn’t feel right to complain. Vivian always had an easy life, compared to most at least, and her parents’ stories about what the world was like in the nineties…well, nothing else can compare to Voldemort, can it? It wouldn’t surprise anyone to hear that her parents went right back to Quidditch after the war ended, setting aside underground radio networks and rebel groups for broomsticks and microphones. Lee Jordan became a beloved commentator, continuing his school traditions, and Alicia Spinnet became a stellar Chaser until she just got too old for it. Now she’s out there finding the next generation of Quidditch stars, and it was no secret that they both hoped their only daughter would be next. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves. Lee Jordan moved to be close to his remaining best friend after the tragedy at the Battle of Hogwarts, and so Vivian grew up in Ottery St Catchpole to learn how to value the past and carry it forward into a better future. And Merlin, she loved hearing her parents’ stories, even if that’s a lot of pressure for the next generation to try and live up to their parents’ deeds. But life was good and simple – hunting for cool-looking magical bugs in the garden, pretending to interview the crups while they chased their tails, and taking apart her father’s radio only to put it back together right after a million and one times. Hogwarts didn’t quite work out the way she wanted it too, but Vivian is nothing if not talented at making things her own. So she got put in Ravenclaw, which put out her Gryffindor-proud parents a bit. Not that they ever said anything. No, there’s nothing really to complain about because her parents are loving and supportive and they added some blue and silver hangings to their otherwise scarlet home. Still, it seemed clear enough to Viv that she had her work cut out to prove she was her parents’ daughter. Becoming Hogwarts’ beloved Quidditch commentator with her sharp and witty observations about the players cheered her dad right up, and it wasn’t too tricky to smuggle in some fireworks and make a few innovations. Vivian loves to fiddle with odd bits and pieces, after all, and nobody could complain about fireworks that could give out a 30% louder bang or spew Babbling Beverage on you as they passed by. Well, students and professors alike certainly did, but Viv’s a Ravenclaw. Nobody could ever officially attribute it to her. No, until the age of 15, she didn’t have anything to complain about at all. There were worries, certainly, and an almost feeling of shame at the explosive events happening in the school. Deaths of students, horrible things being printed in the papers. Viv had to wonder, was history doomed to repeat itself? It all felt so far away though, even the Muggleborns from her own House getting murdered when they should be safe at school. There was an aura of fear, but also a feeling that it was just the new normal over time. But just when you think everything will be okay, that you can live with this -- that’s when tragedy hits. Picture the scene: Christmas break, a sleepy village, and a group of rowdy Hogwarts kiddos looking for a bit of fun. It’s near midnight, and it’s a full moon so they don’t even need to light their wands to see the way as they weave through the empty pastures. They can hear the sounds of a party in the distance, and it promises a good time. But she won’t make it there. Somebody forgot to take their Wolfsbane, or maybe it was a planned attack all along. Who could say – Vivian knew there were plenty of lunatics out there, had heard enough about Fenrir Greyback and his followers from her father. But there were three teenagers there, and two of them had their lives changed forever. It was difficult to go back to Hogwarts – special accommodations had to be made for her condition, and werewolf hate hadn’t completely disappeared either. But with understanding professors and good friends, Viv supposed she couldn’t even quite mope about losing her traditional Hogwarts experience. She could make do, after all, and find a way to spin her story into something great. And hey, now she gets to say that she’s truly an underdog! That’s what she told herself to avoid crying at night, at least, surrounded by four other girls who would definitely hear it. Vivian couldn’t just moon about, no she was well known for being doggedly persistent and always sniffing out what lay ahead. And Merlin, someone better have laughed at that! She believes in tradition, even as she’s looking for a way to make her story her own and not just be a repeat of the greatest hits from the last generation. So, to go back to the beginning, no – she didn’t become a star Quidditch player like her mum. Or a commentator like her dad, although she’s promised him at least one game a season in the minor leagues. There’s a balance to be struck, a way to honor the past while still recognizing that she’s more than her father’s daughter. And what better way than to bring back his greatest legacy but make it her own? Potterwatch told the truth when you couldn’t find it anywhere else, was a beacon of hope in a great vast sea of darkness. It’s not the same rebel network as when River and Rapier signed on, but Vivian promised her father she would find a way to honor her roots when pitching the reboot to Witch TV. A talk show that could still promise real content and engage with the important issues. And be a source of outrageous gossip on the whereabouts and wellbeing of the Boy Who Lived, of course. And hey, some of the best rumors were his idea, too. OOC
