Lunar New Year Celebrations on Alohomora
The "Lunar New Year" is a broad term for new year celebrations based on lunar or lunisolar calendars. Multiple Lunar New Year celebrations in East Asia are based on the traditional Chinese calendar and include Xīnnián, or the Chinese New Year; Tết, or the Vietnamese Lunar New Year; and Seollal, or the Korean New Year, all of which are celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month.
Many traditions are similar across these countries, such as the importance of ancestor worship, the dragon dance and the lion dance (with the latter known as the unicorn dance in Vietnam), and the giving and receiving of envelopes containing money. (These envelopes are red in Chinese and Vietnamese culture and white in Korean culture.) There is also plenty of food.
Here on Alohomora, we recognize that the magical community tends to do things with some more flair. Here's what your characters can expect as the Ministry of Magic, visiting diplomats, and community members mark the beginning of the Year of the Goat/Sheep:
