Cas was still a little unsure about the new direction he was taking because selling wands meant entering an ancient and complicated line of business that had a lot of competition. He didn’t have much experience with wands and that meant relying on consultants and outside partnerships to seal the deal. It was risky, but he didn’t want his store to go stale. That was how businesses died, and Cas refused to be the weak link that ended a long legacy of pureblood excellence. So that meant stepping outside his comfort zone, and for that – Cas preferred to try his friends first. Veronica wasn’t a stranger, and while he couldn’t completely rule out whatever interests she might have in agreeing to this arrangement – well, the chances that she was trying to pull one over on him were low. It wasn't just about hunting for more gold, either. Cas had always craved the prestige more than the treasures, and he wanted Borgin and Burke's to develop a reputation for finding rare wands. Collectibles more than anything, since they weren't meant to be used anymore. That also meant not entering into competition with established wandmakers like Ollivander's.
“Hm, I must be off my game today, but that stays between us. I have a reputation to keep.” The response came easily as Veronica put him in his place again, but his light tone matched hers and there wasn’t a particular edge to it. He made it a point of pride to never be thrown off-kilter, and even if he had – Borgin and Burke’s thrived on secrets and whispered reputations, which meant nobody would ever hear anything besides what he cared to share. That was his area of strength, after all. That and the stories he could weave to intrigue his clients and move his product. “Consider me corrected,” Cas said as he accepted the wand box after Veronica finished packing up, “Your father can stay at home and I’ll wait patiently to see you again. Without any misguided thoughts as to why, naturally.”
