Even flow thoughts arrive like butterflies Archie would not have known Veronica during his school years. Perhaps that had prevented her from ever coming into his father’s line of sight. And that was for the best. Undoubtedly, an Ollivander heir would have been far too tempting to pass up. The idea of traveling appealed to Archie, but it was a matter of whether his schedule would allow it. He did miss that part of his old career as a Cursebreaker, but without all the life-threatening risk and all.
”There is always something to remind me of my age these days.” Whether it was the students running around, seeing his siblings, or remembering when Veronica’s father’s hair was a little less grey. ”Wand-making.” Archie clarified, as Veronica had already given him her short thesis on why she smoked long ago. ”I suppose I can see the appeal to a point, but then again, I’m one of about six people that find Arithmancy interesting.”

━ you have bewitched me, body and soul ━ WITH ANOTHER PUFF OR TWO, Veronica Ollivander flicked at the butt of her cigarette once more, the ashes falling rather quickly into the tray that had been provided. As he went on, mentioning that there was always something to remind him of his age, the Ollivander adjusted herself in her seat.
"You got that one right." She began, smiling small as she gently wiped at the debris on her skirt. "I'm a near-40 divorcee with a child whos due to become a young adult..I'm sure you feel the same whenever you watch your students or even younger siblings grow."
As he questioned whether or not she enjoyed wandmaking, the Ollivander sat up straight once more. She hadn't thought of that question for a few years now. "It's not..the idea of enjoying the craft. But it's simply something I've grown into knowing, into doing." She began to explain, hoping he was following.
"If you had asked me..maybe at our younger, prime age, I would've answered truthfully. But considering my family, the legacy and the traditions of it all, I suppose I..grew into the enjoyment of it." Veronica reached forward once more, inhaling before her lips pursed, smoke trickling out. "What draws you to Arithmancy?"

Even flow thoughts arrive like butterflies Archie feigned a bit of surprise. "Near forty? Impossible." While he would insist Veronica did not appear her age, he was also reminded she had been ahead of him in school, albeit in the same house. Still, Archie would not have guessed it. But she had a point about his younger siblings. "Yes." He could agree. "The youngest are entering their third year." Merlin, if that didn't leave Archie feeling absolutely ancient. "I suppose it must have been the same with your youngest brother?" Nova spoke of him occasionally as they had been in the same year at Hogwarts.
As Veronica explained, Archie listened intently. It was easy to take for granted the crafts passed down in families like the Ollivanders, and nobody bothered to ask why. But the same could be said of his career as well. "I think I understand." With a name as his own, it had been difficult to consider other career options when his being pulled him in a single direction. "I've always been good with numbers. I like the patterns and the consistency." Archie paused a moment to consider his craft. "There's a logic to it, one that won't disappoint you." Despite the number's interpretation varying, the logic was all the same.

━ you have bewitched me, body and soul ━ SMILING WIDE AT HIS FEIGNED surprise, Veronica smoked and inhaled the last bit of her cigarette, pushing the remainder into the ash tray and ensuring it was put out in its entirety. "Don't flatter me. I'm sure you were just starting in Hogwarts when I was within my Sixth or Seventh year anyway." Humming quietly as she watched him realise the age of his own younger siblings, the Ollivander sat straighter, refining how she appeared - as one typically did.
"That's the curse of aging, watching those around you grow older..while you grow with them." At his question regarding her youngest brother, Yvonne nodded. "He was born a few years before Gideon. So it felt like raising two sons at once." She loved the days when a younger Gehry would wander the halls, mindlessly walking around their family home like the curious soul he was. It was just as amusing watching Gideon do the same within their own home.
As Archie continued, mentioning his skill with numbers, patterns and consistency - Veronica nodded. It was how she felt about wandmaking. The craft, the thrill of it all and even the tedious, meticulous parts of it all. It's what made the hobby into a real role and overall provided enjoyment. That was simply it. "Interesting. Even in Hogwarts too then? Arithmancy must have been your greatest skill."
