Enough time had passed since Elaine Dupree's attack on Hogwarts that it had stopped occupying Chrissy's every waking thought, though that might have been because of the number of potions she was taking on a daily basis to keep things that way. Being able to return to Ilvermorny after all, even with Lee's job, was strange, because Chrissy certainly hadn't expected that upon being adopted. She had gone from Ilvermorny to Hogwarts and was preparing to go back to Ilvermorny. From what she had heard, there were a lot of students from Hogwarts who were planning on going there, too, instead of Beauxbatons or Durmstrang, both of which were nearer geographically. Culturally, though, Chrissy supposed it made sense, but she'd had enough culture shock just from coming to Hogwarts that she didn't know what it would be like in reverse.
There wasn't much to do during the week while Lee was at work, and Chrissy had decided to start venturing out a little bit more from their flat. Because she was still underage, she couldn't go very far without taking the Knight Bus, but the shops of Diagon Alley were familiar territory. Occasionally, she saw flyers for the Blishwicks' pizza parlor in Hogsmeade, but Chrissy was sort of glad that that summer job hadn't worked out. It might have been useful to earn some more money to buy what she'd lost when her trunk had gone up in flames, but Lee had also made sure that she was taken care of.
Instead of getting pizza, Chrissy had decided to go into the ice cream parlor. From what little she knew of the Fortescue family, the business had been in their family for far longer than Jimbo Blishwick, the matchmaker, had been in the pizza business. It showed, too, because the flavors made sense, and nothing there was unnecessarily shaped like a heart.
After buying herself a scoop of strawberry ice cream in a cup, Chrissy found a seat at a table that faced the door. She dug her spoon into the ice cream but glanced up when she heard the door chime because someone else had entered.
