PERSONALITY Growing up and for a good portion of her school years, Juniper could easily be considered a ‘bad Hufflepuff’, or the antithesis of what one should be: snobby, a know-it-all, impatient, and generally unpleasant to be around. She had a bit of an ego during those years, stemming mainly from a complex that developed by having her great-grandaunt as the Headmistress of Hogwarts. Never once was she given any liberties in her education because of her relation to Minerva McGonagall (if anything it was quite the opposite when things went south), but she still acted like she had all of the perks that nepotism granted in the working world. Her natural aptitude for transfiguration helped create that from an early age, and lauding that she took after the Headmistress only made her more arrogant. As she got older she realized that nobody really enjoyed being around her, a harsh reality that came and slapped her in the face one day (rather it was her leg, by a spilled cauldron in Potions class sixth year). Sitting in the Hospital Wing with her leg magically burned and turned permanently green sucked, and no one else was there to comfort her for that. Knowing that it was her own doing, she has since tried to be a more pleasant individual to be around. While intense when it comes to the things she’s passionate about, like transfiguration and education, she now knows how to separate the good from the bad. In the work place she can still get irritable if she has a writer’s block or if a producer starts pushing her for too many edits. Crossing her in the morning before she’s had at least two cups of Spellbucks is also not the best idea. She hopes that her experience working in the Department of Magical Education and as a writer for children’s shows will allow her to teach one day at Hogwarts. ORIGIN & RELATIONS Hogsmeade, Scotland Liam McGonagall – father, accidental magic reversal squad Margaret McGonagall – mother, accidental magic reversal squad ewan caelus mcgonagall – brother, b.1993 ___ McGonagall – sister, open career, b. 1992 Richard McGonagall Jr. - great-grandfather, deceased Minerva McGonagall - great-grandaunt, Hogwarts Headmistress HISTORY Born as the third and final child of Liam and Margaret McGonagall, Juniper was spoiled from the get-go. Six years younger than her brother, she had the full attention of her parents, and it pretty much stayed that way until she was also sent off to Hogwarts at eleven. Growing up in Hogsmeade was interesting, as it wasn’t the most child-friendly town while school was out of session or during the winter months. Climbing over the craggy cliffs of the nearby hills and sneaking onto the grounds of the Shrieking Shack were all feats of strength she defeated at an early age, the sort of things that the average Hogwarts student was fearful of. As if that wasn’t enough to boost her ego ever so slightly, being a McGonagall absolutely made it skyrocket. Her great-grandaunt, Minerva, was heralded for her career at the magical school. Juniper knew from a young age that her name carried an important weight, and she always felt like the other residents of Hogsmeade treated her with more respect. Whether or not that was actually the case, she didn’t care. And that attitude only continued when she entered her first year at school. Traveling from Hogsmeade to Platform 9 ¾s just to take the train back to Hogsmeade was probably the dumbest rule in existence, mostly because it was a waste of time for her and her parents. Apparently she couldn’t just step off of the platform in Hogsmeade and go home. Having watched her siblings have to go through this in the years leading up to her turn, she already had a deep-seated hatred for the brilliant, scarlet red train. She spent the entirety of her ride back to Hogsmeade pouting and making sure she told anyone that would listen that it was a waste of time. Pointing out her house when her feet hit the platform again made a few realize she wasn’t making things up, but enough of her fellow first years were already tired of hearing her whine. Sorted into Hufflepuff, a few of them were spared from her unpleasantness for the next seven years, at least outside of class periods. It remains to be seen whether she actually had friends while at Hogwarts. There were definitely classmates that felt bad for her and could deal with her incessant talking and complaining, but they were few and far between. Everything was about her, after all, and having time to deal with other people was a waste of her own. Her grades were slightly above average, aside from Transfiguration which she excelled in (and obviously helped fuel her even more), and quickly five years of Hogwarts passed by. In her sixth year, an accident happened: a spilled cauldron in Potions class, in which the liquid immediately burned through her pants and ended up on her skin. Leaving her in the Hospital Wing with a gnarly, magically burned scar that was now permanently green, Juni was not impressed. Her first instinct was to view it as an attack, as one of the two that had let it spill, Sarah Oliveira, already had a nasty track record and personality to boot. But the days ticked by as her leg healed, and with them, no visitors to the Hospital Wing aside from one of the culprits a few times. If no one else viewed it as a personal slight and the guilty conscience had already apologized, she couldn’t help but think that the absence of classmates coming by was a product of her own doing. Being alone actually hurt, but she didn’t know how to change it immediately to get others to like her. Once she returned to class a few days later, it was like nothing had changed in her absence. Knowing then that it was all her, she started asking her classmates what it was that she did that made them not visit her in the Hospital Wing. Getting the honest, brutal truth out of teenagers was harder than it seemed, so she turned to her siblings. They had no problem holding back. Being told by them that she was exhausting to be around and that their parents only paid attention to her was hard to accept at first, because she assumed things were always fine between the three of them. Her parents hesitantly agreed after a shouting match that ensued between them and her brother during a dinner following the end of school that year, and her suspicions were finally confirmed: no one really liked her at all. Even her family simply agreed with whatever she said and did, having created a monster and refusing to do anything about it. She wanted to put it all on them for that, but she also knew she had herself to blame too. If she had listened to professors and classmates over the years, she could have figured it out. But thinking she was better than all of them by name alone, she ignored it. Her final year and half at Hogwarts was different. Not perfect, because an entire personality shift didn’t happen overnight, but it was definitely an improvement over the first sixteen years of her life. Controlling her need to comment about everything around her was the first step she worked on. She realized pretty quickly that keeping things to a minimum meant others were more willing to listen to her, especially if she didn’t tack on personal insults or act like they should have known certain things already. It was here that she discovered a future passion of hers: teaching. Slowing down and actually helping others ended up with students reaching out to her, especially when it came to transfiguration. Over the years she had scared them all away by constantly trying to prove she was better than them, despite the general acknowledgement that she was exceptionally good in the subject. Finally, she felt like she was making headway and maybe what she could consider a friend or two. And right when she got to that point, she graduated. Off into the working world she went, suddenly unaware of what she actually wanted to do with her life or how to proceed forward. There was no one to talk to about it, so she followed up with what she had recently become interested in. By interning at the Ministry in the Department of Magical Education. The next few years were spent there, helping develop the exams for OWL level Transfiguration, and eventually the NEWT level ones too. While she figured out how to work with her coworkers, she still felt on edge around them. Knowing herself, she was afraid of repeating what had happened in school. During this time, she decided to put herself through one of the most complicated magical processes ever: becoming an animagus. Confident in her transfiguration prowess and wanting to test how much she had come along with her patience of others, she took a month off of work in 2022 to complete it. A black cat was her result, which confused her at first. They were notorious for being friendly and outgoing creatures, both of which she was not. But they were also abandoned more frequently and suffered hardships that not all cats did. That, she could see aligning with her predetermined path as an animagus. Upon this realization, she treated her result as her path forward: what had already happened was done and over with. What would happen in the future would be determined by how she treated herself and others. After six years in the Department of Magical Education, Juni decided she was ready for a change. She wanted something a little more hands-on and that could actually leave an impact. Something that could be hers, but also be for others. Hogwarts students hated the exams she made, she knew that because she had hated them too. What kids didn’t hate was the newly minted WitchTV, and they needed writers for their shows. Taking it upon herself to learn a bit about screenwriting and how that translated onto actual television, she switched careers and started with WitchTV in the hopes of making an actual difference this time. Since then, she has started to wonder if writing for educational shows is really what she wants to do. Hogwarts being destroyed hit extremely close to home for her, and the following year had her thinking about her future once again. She was old enough to teach and definitely had the pedigree for it, from both of her career choices and with her magical ability. The only problem was not yet knowing what classes would be available to teach once Hogwarts reopened and that she didn’t want all of her hard work over the past nine years to go to waste if others saw her appointment as a professor as nepotism. But that wasn’t going to prevent her from applying nonetheless… WANT AD
