Hey lovely members!
So, as we know the past couple months have been a whirlwind as Alohomora has been going through a speed up! This speed up has been to give all the characters a cooling off period (or what is known as a return to normal in storytelling) after the end of the Purifier plot. With the end of the speed up only 2 days away I'll recap some of the changes to expect, and more!Names of the new Hogwarts Campus
We put up a poll for the names of the 2 schools that will make up the Hogwarts campus once the rebuilding efforts (we'll say it was completed end of May IC for reference purposes, and will put up a news article for it). So! The polls already have very clear winners so I'm announcing them now!MYSTIC - Merlin's Youth School for Teaching Intelligent Children
this is a day school, no overnight boarding
For the primary school, where the children of all magical origin (regardless of if they've shown signs of magic) and children of muggles who have already shown enough signs of magic to be muggleborn (so that they can become adjusted to the magical world prior to the secondary school). No magic is actually taught in this school, and instead they learn regular education skills such as reading, writing, mathematics, etc. There are two destinations for children once complete. For children that showed signs of magic they'll move to the secondary school. Those that didn't show signs of magic will attend a non-magical school of their parents' choice.
MAGIC - McGonagall Academy for Gifted Illusionary Children
this is a day or boarding school (depending on the wishes of the parents)
The secondary school and general magical education. This is the 1-5th years, or your OWLs. During these five years students only that their core classes, which are Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Flying, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfigurations. Fifth year students will also take apparition. After their graduation they can decide they are done with school and move on to the work force OR work on their NEWTs at the next school.
After completing their OWLs they can use magic outside school (that's right! unsupervised magic is now linked to graduation, not age!)
LIFE - Lufkin Institute for Further Education
students can live on campus or off (depending on their preference)
LIFE is both a trade school and university. There are basically three parts to this school. Those seeking their NEWTs, those needing job training, and those seeking even more education. You can come just to do your NEWT exams. Once you finish your NEWT exams you can graduate, or keep going. You can go for a typical degree, or do job training (such as curse breaking, law enforcement, healing, etc). You're time at LIFE can be 2-6 years depending on the path you choose to take!
Term for the primary and secondary school starts September 6, 2027! While classes at LIFE will begin June 7, 2027! (this is only because they don't do breaks the same way as the primary and secondary school). Students that don't live on campus (such as the primary students, and those that are only day students at the secondary school) are transported to and from school every day by a triple decker bus (similar to the Knight bus).
To remind everyone the flow of these schools, here is the flow chart we shared originally that shows how your education would affect job prospects.Calling teachers!WE have the claim officially up for the schools! You can find it HERE! We are in need for teachers of all three schools! The existing teachers got first dibs on the positions, but it's not open to everyone! Please note the primary and secondary school teachers can ONLY teach one class. Teachers at LIFE can teach multiple courses (and even work other places), and you can make up your own classes to teach. Imagine it like real uni, for many professors teaching is just a side gig.Keeping the other schoolsAs the poll from last month showed! You guys want us to keep the other three schools! Those are Ilvermorny, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. So! We will be keeping them! You can make teachers/students for these schools as you desire! We'll just list these students and teachers somewhere in the job claim.Check out the Rules!
We are going to be modifying the rules slightly to fit with the theme of member run plots. As a reminder of what member run plots are. Staff will no longer be pushing plots as staff. All plots on the site will be created, run, and pushed by members. You participate in what you want, ignore what you don't. Staff will have the same sort of plot pushing power as members (as in staff doesn't get any sort of extra power over plots members don't). Staff will, of course, be monitoring what the members do though in plots for rule breaking.
So, what are acceptable plots? Well, most everything! The only thing constricting you are:If you have any questions of if a plot you're considering is possible you are always welcome to message staff to ask before hand! If you feel it's fine though, just go for it! Don't feel like you have to get approval before hand.
- It can't affect the vast majority of the UK unless the majority of members are participating in the plot. (aka you have to get everyone on board and participating for it to affect the majority of characters). Small scale plots in the UK ARE do-able as long as you get most people in that area to participate.
- No school plots. Students can have their usual school drama and teenage drama, but we are going to be leaving the Hogwarts campus free of all danger.
- Dark/more mature plots (still stay within PG-13 guidelines!) must include trigger warnings.
- If staff gets complaints about a plot (for going above the site rating, for breaking social taboos that we are just not going to mess with, etc) staff will investigate it, and may ask you to change it or end the plot entirely.
Site Calendar
And finally, the change of the site calendar! Moving forward time will move the same IC as OOC! As in OOC May will be IC May, OOC June is IC June, and so forth. FOr past threads and such we will simply just do it by year, so we'll keep the past board by year/archives by year. So we'll only move threads to the archives after the New Year each year. Just keep making all threads for the year in the regular board if we're still in the IC year (aka, if it's July and you want to make a thread for June, just use the regular boards, don't make it in the archive.)
