━ the mirror's telling me to go home ━ FROWNING A LITTLE AS BENNY nodded, Rue couldn't help but feel even worse as he questioned aloud as to why his brother hated him. Rue knew the feeling all too well, especially as she got that vibe from her mother ever since her father died. To Rue, they felt like a failure in front of her mother, and an even worst result of her parents love, considering since the Weiss' siblings were the 'normal ones'. It was more so a shame that the potioneer refused to reach out to them, simply because she didn't want them to see her in this way.
"He doesn't hate you.." Rue mumbled quietly, gently jabbing into Benny's side. "He's just..swept up with his own shit. You're..'normal' compared to him and he probably can't deal with that..So he just makes you think that he hates you." Rue honestly knew it all too well. She was doing the same thing with her own siblings, but she would never admit it. "Yeah?..Like what?.." It was nice, watching Benny's eyes light up as he described his older sister. There was that kind of love even broken families had, that made the Weiss even the tiniest bit of envy.
"She would probably be disappointed huh, knowing her oldest son dare sweeps for another woman." Rue grinned then, jabbing at his side once more. Rue knew that Veronica and Benny were siblings, but considering their age difference and how the eldest Ollivander had a son around the time Benny was still young..Benny was more like Veronica's first child. As Rue went off into their 'secret stash', she couldn't help but grin as Benny joked also.
Pouring some of the drink into cups the two eventually found, Rue sat on the table top, their leg swinging a bit and hitting Benny rather gently. "Do you..ever think what life would've been like if we..never spoke to each other? If..you never spoke to Mina, or if I just..never transferred to Hogwarts?" Rue knew exactly why they transferred though, considering it was her fathers wishes to be buried back in Germany. But given that Durmstang was the closer wizarding school, Rue always wondered why her mother chose Hogwarts in the end.

i like these thoughts when they come out to play Benny shrugged, though not with a lot of energy. Maybe Rue was right, but fighting this funk had taken everything the past few months. It was no wonder the majority of Benny’s paycheck seemed to be spent at Spellbucks for the energy. ”Maybe you’re right…” He trailed off, biting the inside of his lip at the lingering thought from that other morning. ”Sometimes I wonder if…” This was the heaviest thought on his mind as of late. And he missed his happy, blissful ignorance. ”It feels like I was supposed to replace him, but I didn’t.” It wasn’t an easy concept to explain.
But all those theoreticals hurt his brain, and if he wanted to get philosophical, Benny would need some weed. ”I helped her with a Thunderbird feather the other day.” That was a good day. Aside from the new experience, he’d gotten Nell to take a break. So it was a win for both. As the closest in age, Benny got along with Nell and thought she worked far too hard. He also thought Veronica should give their sister some credit, but he didn’t dare speak that out loud anywhere near the oldest. Still, he scoffed at Rue’s comment. ”Don’t say that in front of her. She hates feeling old.” And Merlin, was she dramatic about it.
Taking the cup they offered him, Benny gave Rue a funny look. What a thought. He couldn’t really imagine it. ”No.” He answered honestly and quickly. ”Because I don’t want to.” Benny and Mina had immediately clicked during their first year on the train to Hogwarts. Mina had quite literally fallen into the compartment he’d been sitting in with Nova. ”I love you both too much to think about stuff like that.” Lazily, Benny threw his arm around Rue, landing a big dramatic kiss on their cheek. It didn’t have to do with romance; they were all best friends. Not that he could claim it was all platonic. Mina and Benny would occasionally hook up, and it had been since their school days without the slightest hint of drama. With that, Benny raised his cup for a toast.

━ the mirror's telling me to go home ━ SMILING SMALL AS BENNY AGREED with them, Rue couldn't help but feel bad. It was funny though, how all of her friends had their own fucked up problem. And the ties between them always returned back to family issues or drama. In Rue's case, it was her father dying that stemmed a drug and potion problem. "Replace him?" Rue repeated, brow raised. "Your parents knew what they would put you through if you were just the replacement..I think you were just a happy addition to balance out the drama.." Rue obviously didn't know the full family drama, but to think he was a failed replacement made them more sad than anything.
"No shit? How was it?" Rue enjoyed visiting Benny's sister's store. When the Weiss first moved to the UK, she visited Ollivanders like any other curious witch would do, but now she appreciated the more customisation Eleanor Nell provided. That and also she was cheaper to go to for a wand fix compared to the glorious Ollivanders. "Everyone hates feeling old, some people just refuse to realise it until they have their old person moment. Surely she's had a couple by now." Rue added, with a wider grin.
Grinning at Benny's immediate response, the Weiss relaxed a little, bringing their cup to their lips to taste. "I'm glad." She added, cheesing a little from the kiss he left on their cheek. "I don't even..think about my old memories that much in Ilvermorny..When I think about school I think about you guys." Rue confessed, resting their head against Benny's shoulder. "Not to be cheesy or whatever. You know I'm far from a romantic."
Lifting their hand up to join Benny in a toast, Rue clinked their cups together before having another sip. She was grateful for the people she was around, despite the odd drama here and there and the problems in the Weiss' life.

i like these thoughts when they come out to play Benny scoffed. Not even he was so naïve to think his parents knew what they pushed onto their children. How could one argue with centuries of tradition, after all? ”They wouldn’t have given me such a ridiculous name like ‘Gehry’ if that were true.” Whatever happened to something like George, Michael, John, or the millions of other possible names? Honestly, Benny wondered if their last shred of common sense had been lost when he was born. ”It was bloody brilliant. Cores like that are temperamental, so you can’t just force it into a wand.” However, moments such as the thunderbird feather reminded Benny why wand-making was so interesting and why he bothered to remember anything he’d learned growing up. It was fun, but turning things into a business made it, well, not fun. As he always did, Benny tried to look on the bright side. His family, however chaotic, was there, as were his closest friends. Life without Rue and Mina was something his brain could not even comprehend. ”And that’s why we’re three peas in a pod.” Sometimes, he forgot that Rue had not joined them in the first year, but it certainly felt like it. Their lives may have taken different twists and turns, but they always had one another. [ wrap up? ] template by vee
