It had been a few days since Reina and her parents had moved to their temporary home—actually a small two-bedroom flat—in a place called Diagon Alley in the heart of magical London. The cramped flat was a far cry from their house in Iquitos, and Reina already missed being in the rainforest. She knew that being in such a large city would be different, but she hadn't expected it to be so different from what she was familiar with in Peru or even in Brazil at Castelobruxo.
The one upside to the whole situation was that Reina didn't have to worry about leaving the immediate area for anything, and her parents trusted her enough that they were fine with allowing her to go explore Diagon Alley on her own. She was in a completely magical area, so that also made things easier. While Reina didn't have any plans to buy her school supplies while out on her own, she at least wanted to get a better idea of what was around to keep her busy until she left to board at the McGonagall Academy for Gifted Illusionary Children (also known as MAGIC).
Despite its name, Diagon Alley was larger than Reina expected, and she wound up getting turned around once the sun had set. Carrying a bag of books she'd purchased earlier, she decided to stop into one of the stores that was still clearly open in order to ask for directions. No sooner had she opened the door than multiple heads turned to look at her. The door that she had opened, she realized, led to some sort of clinic, and the people who had turned to look at her all had red eyes.
Vampires. They were vampires.
Quickly, Reina backed up, allowing the door to slam shut again. Had she found herself somewhere she shouldn't have been? She needed to find her way back to her flat as quickly as possible.
