PERSONALITY Jack’s a troubled man with no problem fighting for what he wants. In reality, this stems from an urgent need to protect and is borne of a misguided sense of loyalty. Jack fell in with a questionable crowd at a young age, and quickly learned how to mask his intentions to survive. After some time, it was no longer a mask - Jack became as self-serving and intimidating as he acted. Gifted with a wit as sharp as a blade, Jack is charming to those he first meets. His personality can flip like a switch, one minute charming and crooked smiles, the next shoving you against the wall and spitting in your face. Jack struggles to keep his mental stability in check. He’s hot headed, finding solace in the moments of peace he has alone with his guitar. He is fiercely devoted to his mums, and as devoted to his brother. While the pair butt heads, explosively and often, Jack would gladly take a bullet for any member of his family. And like his brother, Jack is immensely vain and narcissistic. Once he forms an opinion, he will stick to it, no matter how mundane it might be. Beige music? Absolutely not. Supporting the Montrose Magpies is a personality trait for Jack, who follows the team religiously. He’s never been able to watch a match in person due to insufficient funds. The same goes for the Rangers, the muggle football team his friends from the estate support. Jack takes football hooliganism to the next level with those he grew close to in his youth, with yelling, singing, and general misbehaviour. Also he will flirt with ur mum. Despite being raised in near destitution, they ultimately decided to marry and start their lives together. Unfortunately, the systemic nature of poverty kept the young lovers working to the bone, even after the birth of their two sons.J ack Clark was born to Isla, who had been artificially inseminated by the same man as her wife. Her insemination had taken more quickly than her wife’s, meaning that Jack was born a full four months before his brother. The pair were raised almost as twins, thick as thieves and respectful and appreciative of their mothers despite the two women working double and triple shifts to make ends meet. Jack and Mal were left to their own devices frequently, and ended up befriending local kids who also lived on the estate. They started getting in trouble, lighting things on fire, staying out past their curfew, desecrating public land and just being miscreants in general. Isla and Maisie were disappointed in the attitude the boys were developing, and enrolled the pair in music lessons as a way to channel their emotions. For some time, it worked - and even afterwards, Jack was instilled with a passion for the guitar and a haunting voice that evoked every emotion he called on. But as Isla and Maisie had to work, there was no way to monitor the boys every move - they had begun to sneak out and meet up with their friends again. Jack showed signs of magic first - after punching one of his classmates, he was knocked down and split open the back of his skull on the pavement. But when he sat up, there was no sign of blood or any sort of injury. The only evidence of his injury lay in the smeared blood on the ground. Mal showed magic not long afterwards, lighting Jack’s ass on fire. A fact that Mal refuses to let Jack forget. Despite the amicable competition between the two boys, they were still as close as two technically half brothers could be. They even had dreams of starting a band, one that would be even more famous than the Weird Sisters. Jack was also the first to get his letter as expected - but the four months difference in the boys' birthdays had thrown an unexpected wrench in their plans. Mal wouldn’t be able to attend Hogwarts until the following year, devastating Jack. He’d never been without Mal for more than an hour - they shared a bedroom, shared clothes, shared punches. And now he was off to an unfamiliar place without the one person he could always rely to be by his side. But Jack put on a brave face and promised that Mal would be with him at school shortly. Both boys, in successive years, were quickly sorted into Slytherin. Jack didn’t excel in his studies, or really try at all. He was more interested in causing trouble, landing himself in detention frequently alongside his brother. As Jack grew, he noticed the interest he piqued in both boys and girls - and actively experimented with his sexuality. The summer of Jack’s 15th birthday, before his fifth year and Mal’s fourth year, the pair were detained for petty theft. The activity was struck from their record as they were both underage and had spun a tale of feeling completely hopeless in the endless drain of poverty. In the end, they were let off with a warning and community service. The pair became better at hiding their crimes. Odd things started happening the year Jack graduated. He was relieved to find that Mal hadn’t been affected by the muggleborn killings, or the kidnapping later on in the year. Stranded working at Slug and Jiggers and sending every penny home, Jack felt helpless as the attacks happened and he couldn’t protect Mal. Though he’s never admitted this to his brother, Jack had never been more fearful for Mal’s life than he was during his final year at school. It came to a head when there was the explosion at King’s Cross in June - Jack secured a position for Mal to work at the apothecary with him, ensuring that he’d be able to keep a close eye on the person who mattered most to him. When the Triwizard Tournament was reinstated, Jack had a bad feeling about it. However, it didn’t matter since Mal was with him and they could go back to their regular lives. Jack felt an inkling of guilt with the explosions at the end of the year, but ultimately, he had Mal. He was more concerned with his songwriting and music career, spending late nights with his brother trying to get the sound behind the haunting lyrics he wrote right. In the midst of winter 2024, a shocking tragedy jarred Jack and Mal. A friend from their youth, and a boy they had maintained a close friendship with, had been discovered in the bath with his wrists slit and having completely bled out. Neither Jack nor Mal had realised that something was dire in his situation - the boys always felt rather lost and hopeless, especially with the hand they’d been dealt. The estates weren’t an easy place to grow up, especially when their upbringing and masculinity was constantly brought into question. Jack had been particularly stricken by Toby’s suicide, and found the only way he could fight through the pain was by penning a song. Jack detached almost completely from the wizarding world, focusing on his music. He was scouted one day in London for modelling, the agent stating that his dour look would look magnificent splashed across pages. Jack agreed, if only to earn more money for his family. This was an especially crucial time, with Isla having been struck down with Hag’s Fever. The cost of medicine and care, as well as covering the income she was missing took a toll on Jack. After the total destruction of Hogwarts and it having been rebuilt, Jack was struck by inspiration. He would never make enough money working these odd jobs. He had to do something more with his life - Mal had managed it. But Mal had never been as obsessed with his music career (though he was nearly as talented as Jack) and had progressed his career and was now a curse breaker. Jack decided that he would train to be a hit wizard - a tricky selection as he had to prove to the ministry that his past misdemeanours held no sway over his current standing and despite his poor grades in Hogwarts, he was ready to turn over a new leaf. In reality, Jack and Mal had just become better at sneaking around and Jack was determined to broaden his prospects. OOC
