so lie to me

Rhys had always taken comfort in the small things others took for granted. Surviving until his seventh year as a constant target had been worth it. As a seventh year, he was at the top of the food chain now, and Bagman and his goons were no longer waiting around the corner for him, waiting to provoke him. In fact, he hadn’t even ended up in the Hospital Wing aside from the monthly visit for the Wolfsbane. While the previous year had started off rocky, everything seemed to change with a chance encounter in the Hospital Wing. And it had changed in a way he would have never imagined.
The cherry on top was he had discovered that he had a sibling. They were in their first year and hadn’t interacted much, but the knowledge made him feel less alone. Now, Sarah had gotten herself expelled, and he missed his friend and fellow werewolf, but some things couldn’t be helped. Nell was still unhappy with him since he’d gained a permanent Potions partner, but at least she didn’t have to suffer through working with Sarah anymore. Rhys flipped through his Herbology book, looking for a definition he swore he had seen earlier. Unfortunately, his book had been little help for this assignment, and the definition in question was at most two lines on a single page. If only he could remember what page that was.
He had wanted to finish this assignment yesterday, but plans had changed, and it wasn’t as if it was due tomorrow. So, rather than the typical Tuesday afternoon in the library, he had opted for a different company. A part of him felt bad that he hadn’t been here to help Claire with any questions, but she was an intelligent girl. One day wouldn’t make much of a difference. And besides, he graduated at the end of this year, and she would need to learn to survive without him. Rhys placed an elbow on the table, leaning his head on his fist as he slowly flipped through the pages and yawned. Merlin, he was a bit tired. At times that was his own fault for not heading to bed at a reasonable time, but insomnia had always been a constant companion. But the scraping of the chair in front of him indicated his boredom would soon be cured.
