▲ September 4th, 2027 Charlie knew prior to taking her apprenticeship that it was a job that required her to get down and dirty in all sorts of normally nasty things. And that was fine with her! She's grown up happily feeding her snake frozen mice without a second thought, and cleaning out his enclosure was always an experience. Once upon a time she wanted to feed poor Alfonso live prey, but her mom was not keen on keeping mice in the house. As if she'd ever even approach Charlie's room with the snake there to begin with. Anyways, she'd finally entered the rebellious portion of her life, where no matter what the protests of her mom were, there was going to be dirt and muck on her all day at work. Gone were the days of being dressed up for whatever movie premier they were all being paraded for or wizarding business magazine photoshoots because of her dad's calendar company. This was what she wanted to do and barely anyone on this side of the world cared about who the Weekly family was. They had complete anonymity here outside of those that the siblings had attended school with. It was wonderful. The one problem she had though was having to shovel and drag the feed into the paddock where the Abraxan were being held by hand. Something about them being slightly jumpy with levitating hay bales and other roughage. Which sucked because levitation charms were literally her best and her arms were still sort of weak and like limp noodles. To get to the research portion that she so desperately wanted to study, manual labor - and a lot of it at that - was required. She had no qualms about that obviously, but her arms always felt like they were going to fall off at the end of the day despite doing this daily for months now. "Aidan, couldn't we just put blinders on the Abraxan so that they don't get spooked?" she asked her colleague as she dropped her cargo into a stall. The Abraxan was appreciative of her delivery, and she immediately felt bad for trying to prevent them from seeing what was going on in their own home. They were curious creatures and she loved when they allowed her to touch their wings. It was a sign of trust that they'd allow such a thing, so at the very least she'd made some progress there while her arms still felt like overstretched rubber bands. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

4 September 2027 Magic wasn’t a solution for everything. Aidan was very familiar with that particular line, since it was a favorite scolding of his ma’s whenever she caught him getting lazy with the chores. Farmwork took a lot of manual labor, even on a druid farm, and Aidan had gotten that fact drilled into his thick head from a young age. There were some parts of the process that absolutely demanded magic – because that was what set apart druid goods from basically everyone else’s – but his parents had never had any qualms in setting Aidan and his sister to lifting bales or weeding without using their staffs at all. Like, not even a little bit. So in that sense, he’d been ready for the work on the nature reserve from the very beginning. Even a healer’s apprentice could find the need for a lot of grunt work on the job, because healing was a much more involved practice with animals than it could be with humans. It wasn’t just about placing a bandage and calling it a day – oh no, you had to ensure the conditions were optimal and that the creature was being taken care of properly in the day-to-day routine too. Which is why Aidan had been knee-deep in manure earlier, and lugging the Abraxans’ feed was only a slightly nicer job now. One of the poor dears had been sick all week, so Aidan’s master had sent the boy through a familiar learning process – studying the horse’s diet and eating patterns, examining and improving the living conditions of the stall, and starting a nice hearty exercise regimen so he wouldn’t lose all that muscle mass in his powerful wings. Aidan had been a little afraid he’d have to do it all alone – he hadn’t caught sight of Eli in a while since there wasn’t much for the boy to do here – which is why he’d been cheered to see they’d sent one of the newbies with him. This Charlie wasn’t a redhead, which was a shame, but he liked her nonetheless. She seemed motivated enough, didn’t complain at the chores, and he hadn’t seen her sneaking her wand out when the boss’s back was turned. Still, it was clear she wasn’t a druid. Sometimes she said the occasional thing that was surely well-intentioned, but didn’t come out quite right. Aidan was on the other side of the Abraxan with his own heavy load when he heard Charlie speak, and he crouched down so he could glance at her from between the Abraxan’s legs. “It not super nice, yes?” he pointed out cheerfully before straightening again. He placed a steady hand on the Abraxan so he could give a few calming strokes before he withdrew his hand again. “We want Abraxan to stay calm, but he stressed when he can’t see. Also we would be, I think.” He could only speak for himself, really, but Aidan was sure he’d be extra jumpy if he was blind and couldn’t see where the strange noises were coming from. But at least she hadn’t suggested a saddle or a bridle! charlie marie weekly
