Within the beautifully decorated Great Hall, a chorus composed of students staying at Hogwarts over the holidays were singing a rather maritime version of Up on the Housetop. Bludworth Bathory, a swashbuckling spirit who haunted Slytherin's common room, was their conductor.
“Now, proud Blood Traitors,” he barked with jolly vigor to the excited, impressionable faces of the young students, “jus' as we rehearsed. One, two, three...!”
At their cue, the students collectively broke out in song.
“Up in the crow's nest dirk in hand
A ship's anchor drops onto the land!
Cutlass sharp and primed for attack
Gonna cut them down and get all my gold back!”
Bludworth flew upwards and sang out, “Yo-ho-ho, blood in the snow!”
The chorus responded:
“Yo-ho-ho, blood in the snow!
Up in the crow's nest – hack, hack hack!
Skewer a yellow-belly and get my booty back!”
Other students not part of the chorus were giggling as the song came to its close. They applauded Bludworth and his chorus. Christmas was one of the ghost's favorite times of the year. He was the epitome of jolly around this wintry period. He floated down and bowed to the ovation.
