Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside Eight weeks was a long time. A very long time. For the entirety of Rhys’ first year of training, he was gone for no more than three weeks at a time. But apparently, this was normal for second-year trainees, and Rhys had about six months left of his training, so he pushed through whatever reservations he had for his goal. And this gave him a two-week break before he left for another three weeks. Saffron had warned him she was in a group that had finished the eight weeks before he did, then she did the three-week stint before earning her two-week break.
Rhys was jealous but also grateful. After some encouragement on Rhys’ part, Juniper finally agreed to not ignore Saffron’s friendly invitations for coffee or lunch, and now they seemed like friends. So with Rhys away for two months, at least she was around for those two weeks to keep Juniper company. But Rhys had arrived home late afternoon the day before. With the upcoming full moon, he had just wanted to get home as soon as possible. The exhaustion and stress weighed on him in conjunction with what he usually felt preceding the full moon.
And fortunately, it was the weekend. So, Rhys walked through the door of their flat. Dropped his bag and all the sand with it on the floor. And Juniper had barely finished saying hello before Rhys picked her up, threw her over his shoulder, and walked into their room. Eight weeks was long, not to mention so close to a full moon. But it worked out, he decided. Plus, Juniper’s birthday was the following day, so he was home, unlike the previous year. Rhys stirred awake, pushing himself up to sit on the bed's edge. His body was sore, not to mention where he’d gotten just a bit injured that September. Naturally, he hadn’t mentioned it to Juniper. Rhys didn’t want her to worry, but absent-mindedly, he rubbed just above his shoulder blade opposite his werewolf bite. Hopefully, it wouldn’t scar. But you could never tell with magical wounds.

▲ To say she wasn't counting down the days until Rhys was home was an understatement. Two days before her birthday was perfect too. Had things changed, she had made a backup plan to visit her parents, though hoped that wouldn't be the case. And it hadn't been. Rhys arrived on time and practically ripped the front door off before she could even say a word. She expected it to be momentous, just didn't think it was going to be the whirlwind that it ended up as. But this was Rhys, and it had been eight weeks after all. Waking up the next morning almost felt the same, until she opened her eyes and saw the blurry back of Rhys sitting at the edge of the bed. Rolling around to face her nightstand, she struggled to find where her glasses were on it, having been pushed away further than normal. "Morning," Juniper yawned as she rubbed at her eyes before her free hand finally located her giant frames. Sitting up on her end, she blinked a few times as she watched Rhys rubbing his shoulder. That hadn't happened last night, had it? "You can't make it all the way back just to get hurt from that," she teased as she waded across the pile of sheets and blankets to see what he was actually doing. Two weeks was all the time he had to recover. Jumping right into it the first night back made sense, but even she could tell in her sleep deprived brain that two straight months of work had taken its toll. She'd been warned that there would be times like this. "Want me to take a look? Juniper added as she inched closer to him. She wasn't sure she could make any promises about not jumping him the second he put his guard down, but making sure his shoulder was functioning first was the least she could do. Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside Rhys heard Juniper stir behind him, and he moved his hand from his shoulder. She wasn’t supposed to see that, but it seemed too late. He chuckled lightly at the comment. Rhys was a very physical person, so he supposed the comment was warranted. But returning home sore and a bit beaten up wasn’t anything new, but after a few weeks it was less noticeable than two months. The past year had brought new experiences, new things to learn and new stories of how he’d run into something or something fell on him. Unfortunately, some of the trainees were a little clumsy and then they all suffered.
But he’d also underestimated how physical the work could be so the past year had also been spent building up his own strength as noted by the bit of muscle and weight he'd put on. Magic was their main tool but it wasn’t an excuse to be out of shape. ”Its nothing, just a little sore from work.” Rhys brushed it off, despite noticing the pain had traveled a bit higher to the base of his neck. Maybe he’d sneak away to St. Mungo’s at some point and make sure he hadn’t pulled something. It was easy to overextend something when simply reacting. And in this case, Rhys would gladly take this injury over nearly falling into a classic pit of pointy objects as he tried to dodge rocks from some idiot launching a blasting curse in a small space. Half these traps weren’t even magical, which felt scarier than the ones that were.
As he attempted to look to his left he stopped and looked over his right shoulder. He hadn’t been able to turn quickly on that side but he tried to move naturally. She approached him, just having put her glasses on. Merlin, he’d missed her. Most missed sleeping in their own bed but he just missed sleeping next to her. She offered to take a look but Rhys wanted to avoid her worrying. ”Hmm—is this your ploy to keep me home longer?” Rhys teased in return, looking suspicious. Though after the night they had, Rhys wasn’t sure he didn’t make it worse. At the time he simply hadn’t cared, and he still didn’t. As if he would let a little soreness stop him. But if he was temporarily put out of commission because she’d had her way with him, that wouldn’t be the worst thing would it? Now if only he could turn properly to his left.

▲ It was nothing? Bullshit. Even though her eyesight sucked without her glasses, she could tell the way he dismissed her inquiry mean that it was more than just a tiny muscle strain. He was basically a monster now, which had been an interesting transformation to watch over the last few years. He'd always had height, but now he had physical mass too. It was sort of freaky how pronounced everything was. "If you weren't, something would be wrong," Juniper said, opting to play along. That wasn't a hill to die on, even though she saw the quick change from him being able to look to his left. Something was wrong, and she'd get it out of him eventually. "Maybe..." she responded to him as she crept up behind, mainly so she could sneak a look at the afflicted shoulder. Everything looked fine to her, no different than it ever was. Poking the waking werewolf wasn't exactly what she wanted to do yet, but it would be a way to get an answer out of him. Instead, she draped herself gently over his shoulders, making note to not put too much pressure on the left side. "Only two weeks, right?" she said into his right ear. Juniper didn't mean for it to sound gloomy, but how couldn't she be? While it was true that the next three week stint would feel fast, she wasn't really looking forward to it this soon. She had tried to schedule a few days off so that they could actually do things, but it hadn't panned out that way. Today was the only day she'd managed to get. So that meant she still had work to go to, wasting precious time they frankly didn't have right now. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside She had a point. Any Cursebreaker that arrived home without some new bruise, scrape, or bump to the head was not fit for the job. Magic could protect them from all sorts of threats. A heavy emphasis on charms had been drilled into them. They had learned shield, levitation, summoning, and others in school, but what the trainers taught them was far more advanced. And Rhys’ hard lesson the last six months or so had been that magic couldn’t do everything. Charms had always been one of his best subjects, and he excelled in training. But pulling himself and another trainee from falling into that pit had been almost pure brute strength and some creativity. And suffice it to say that it didn’t matter how much muscle he put on when his shoulder wasn’t designed to carry and pull up the weight of two people.
Juniper didn’t seem alarmed, so Rhys figured he was in the clear. He just didn’t want her to worry. At least, that’s what Rhys told himself. And what he’d told Saffron when she’d figured out he was hiding most, if not all, of the injuries he’d gotten during their training. But all Rhys could picture was how Juniper looked at him before signing that scroll. He just didn’t want her to worry. Rhys felt her move up toward him, and he tried to control how his body tensed just slightly and the soft grunt when his left shoulder was involved. Juniper spoke into his ear, reminding him of their short time together. The combination of feeling her against him, the months they’d spent apart, and two days until the full moon could almost let Rhys forget about his increasing pain.
But Rhys decided to push through it. He’d figure it out before going back. ”Mm-hmm.” Rhys knew it wasn’t long compared to how long he’d spent away. And during that time, she still had work while Rhys had the full moon to deal with, along with that aftermath. He would be fine. The timing of the injury hadn’t been ideal either, right near the end. But had it been earlier, the training would have made it much worse. Turning his head to his right (which he could do without pain), Rhys asked, ”You sure you can’t call in sick tomorrow?” It was her birthday, after all. Leaning a bit so he could see her face, Rhys kissed her. And he found himself turning to face her and move back onto the bed.
- later that day - Rhys walked into the room and straight to his bag, which he’d yet to unpack. Quickly, he found it—a pain-relieving potion, and his last one as well. Rhys made a mental note to step out later and grab more while offering to run an errand or something. If he had to, he could wait until tomorrow while Juniper was at work. Thankfully, the effects were quick. While it didn’t do much for his limited range of motion or pain when trying to reach or things like that, it was fine for getting through the day. This was his strategy until he could get it properly looked at and healed. Unfortunately, this was beyond the basic first-aid healing they were taught. Their limited time together and proximity to the full moon weren’t helping, as Rhys recalled his and Juniper's very busy morning. Taking a deep breath, he shoved the empty bottle back into his bag and returned to the living room--the numbness beginning to creep through his system.

▲ "I really shouldn't," she said as things started to pick back up again. "We can talk about that later..." This was going to be a long two weeks, wasn't it?
Now she knew something was off. It became more apparent as the morning's biology lesson went on that he was absolutely trying not to turn his head to the left and was favoring his right side. Even after the fact, she had been watching him intently to see if he'd picked up anything with his left hand. That was harder to spot because it seemed like he was trying to hide whatever it was from her. She didn't like that. Ever since she signed the waivers about injuries and death when he started the training, she'd been paranoid about this. Not to the extreme like she'd heard about from other partners of Cursebreakers, but definitely had a constant voice in her head whenever he was gone and hadn't sent an owl in a week. Obviously she knew no news was good news, since apparently the bank was quick when serious injuries and death occurred. Merlin, the thought of that... She was sitting on the couch, flipping through the morning edition of the Daily Prophet despite it being the afternoon already. A story on the rookie Quidditch players highlighted the front page, a few names she recognized as former classmates. That was how it worked, right? Some got famous, others did dangerous work, and then there was her, a stiff working for the Department of Magical Education. Rhys had disappeared, which was hard to do in their tiny flat. From the couch, she could basically see everything except the bedroom, which only required a very precise neck crane to see the foot of the bed. As if knowing she was looking, he reappeared in the doorway and back towards her. "What were you doing in there?" she asked, morbid curiosity getting the better of her. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside For someone whose life depended on quick reflexes, Rhys’ brain was awfully slow in thinking of some response to Juniper’s sudden question. He supposed his mind had been focused on decreasing his pain level, which caught him off guard. Plus, while Juniper was usually very direct, this felt more than that. Internally, Rhys tried to shove down that feeling he got when someone was prying. It was always there, perhaps to just defend himself. But Rhys was also aware that Juniper was among the most intelligent people he knew. Academically they’d achieved similar high marks. ”Hmm?” Rhys merely responded as he went to the couch. He could probably pass it off as exhaustion. They hadn’t exactly rested, had they?
Sitting next to Juniper, he leaned in a bit to see what she was reading. ”Selwyn—wasn’t he in our Potions class?” At least if Rhys recalled correctly. A year and a half since graduation, his former classmates' names and faces had started to blur a bit. But his head wasn’t completely clear either, and it probably wouldn’t be until the full moon had passed. Plus, the sooner he had his shoulder looked at, the sooner he could relax. Nothing like a pulled or possibly torn tendon to completely distract you. At least Rhys could look on the bright side, this wasn’t the worst injury among the trainees, and so far, nothing had happened to Rhys that was considered serious by the bank or the trainer’s standards. As a werewolf, Rhys was no stranger to pain and injuries, although it wasn’t clear which one was more dangerous to him.

▲ A non-answer. That was weird. She blinked it away and returned to reading the paper. If he didn't want to answer, that was up to him. Hiding an injury totally wasn't cool. She wasn't born yesterday. Literally a quick trip to St. Mungo's would have him back in working order with a couple spells and maybe a potion or two. But she had a feeling that wasn't going to happen unless she literally wrung it out of him. Deciding on how to approach that after two months apart was difficult. There were honestly more important things to worry about and catch up on. An injury that wasn't too obvious was probably the least worrisome thing out there. At least his fingernails weren't cursed to fall off one by one by an ancient amulet or something equally horrifying. He took a seat next to her on the couch and brought up Selwyn, one of the the players listed in the Quidditch article who seemed to be a breakout star. According to the caption under the head photograph, it was also him in that, though it was hard to tell since the player was wearing goggles. "Yeah, he was. Gryffindor," she responded. The cheesy grin he had on his face definitely jogged some memories though. Her own personal choice to not befriend anyone for six years meant it was usually seen on the other side of the classroom and behind a cloud of potion smoke. "Saff probably knows him better. Though he was the one that helped me to the Hospital Wing after the incident." Which looking back on, was the most important thing that had ever happened to her, despite the giant green splotch it left on her leg. That was the importance of seeking medical help. "So...how'd you do it," Juniper stated flatly as she folded up the newspaper abruptly and stared up at him. She decided to just jump right into it since it was going to bug her until she had an answer. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside This recent injury had not fallen under ‘urgent’ for Gringotts, so he had not yet gone to St. Mungo’s. He reasoned that if he’d gone there instead of home first, he might still be sitting in the waiting room. And he didn’t want to just sit there. It made him feel a little useless. Plus, he hadn’t seen Juniper for two months. Aside from the physical side of things, he had just looked forward to seeing her. She didn’t follow up on her question, and Rhys focused on what was on the paper instead. ”Right.” With how Rhys and Saff got along, there probably wasn’t any reason he wouldn’t have been friends with her during their school years. Especially when Rhys and Saff had almost identical class schedules. But it hadn’t worked out that way.
The incident, as it was called now. Of course, Rhys would never want a potion to spill on a student, especially one with unknown effects, but this incident had brought Rhys and Juniper together. Or at least he had started it. Maybe if he ever saw Sarah again, he’d have to thank her, although not encourage it to happen again somehow. But Rhys hadn’t heard from her since her expulsion. At least he wasn’t in pain for the moment. As long as his arm wasn’t in danger of falling off, he could live with it for a few more days. But the conversation took a sudden turn, not in the direction Rhys would’ve liked. ”Do what?” He asked after looking at Juniper for a moment and waiting. Maybe she would clarify what in the world her question was about. Naturally, he had suspicions, but Rhys wasn’t about to bring that up. As much as it ate at him a little bit, he told himself it was for the right reasons.
Later and in hindsight, Rhys would hopefully realize that he had unknowingly backed himself into a corner. After almost three years together, he had little reason to deflect most of her questions. Occasionally, there was the odd topic, or two Rhys didn’t want to get into. Sometimes she could persist, and he’d fold, but even that had to be timed right. And by now, Juniper knew most of what made Rhys tick. Only a few parts of his past remained. As Rhys waited for her eventual clarification, he wondered if it was too early in the day for a drink.

▲ She knew better than getting upset over something as little as a potentially sprained shoulder. Rhys hadn't mentioned the injury because it probably wasn't anywhere close to as bad as other injuries he'd come home with. But that wasn't the point. The nagging voice in her head was telling her that she needed to know because she felt like she was owed it for being on her own for two months. Once that tiny spec of discontent started to balloon into a more vicious state, her old personality would rear its ugly head and show itself again. Juniper didn't want that. She also didn't want him hiding his pain. That wasn't healthy at all. Then again, neither was what she was about to dig into. "Your shoulder. You brushed it off this morning when I asked, but it's obviously bothering you," she explained her observations, finally. She couldn't push it to the side now that she'd asked about it a second time. Mostly because she wouldn't let him. Her healing charms were subpar at best, which was strange considering her natural aptitude for transfiguration. Changing the body was one thing, whereas healing it was an entirely other. "Because if it is, you need to have it looked at." The day wouldn't be wasted if he had to sit there and get fully checked out. Really, the bank should have required a complete medical evaluation after every job. It would keep Rhys and the other crazy fools like him from running around and hiding their injuries from their loved ones. "And don't say it's nothing again. You can't even turn your head to the left," Juniper added. There was a slight snap to that one. She really didn't mean it, but the bubble of frustration now that she was letting it all out. If he was going to be hurt and miserable these two weeks, it wouldn't kill him to get it fixed and be back in working order in a couple of days. Then she'd at least stop worrying over it so much. Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside Rhys let out a heavy sigh, looking away. He really didn’t want to do this, not now or ever if he had the choice. It wasn’t a big deal. Sure, it caused him a lot of pain at times, and Rhys couldn’t return to work with an injury like this, but he was fine. He was here, wasn’t he? Rhys considered denying it again, but even he knew that wouldn’t go well. Or at least not better than it was. This long together had taught him that she wouldn’t let it go. The neck pain was a tiny bit concerning, and he’d obviously done a lousy job hiding that injury.
Luckily she sat to his right, so turning to look at her wasn’t a problem. His eyes stayed on Juniper momentarily as she called him out on his injury. Whenever Rhys had thought of going home over the past eight weeks, nagging and bickering hadn’t been a part of that daydream. Neither was an injury, but it wasn’t anything to worry about. Besides, it wasn’t his first injury. Last year he’d mildly sprained his other shoulder overextending it. Then there were the various other injuries, but nothing to write home about since he always got fixed up. Cuts and bruises were normal and expected, and bruises were hard to hide. ”It's probably just a sprain, nothing serious.”
‘Probably’ wasn’t the most reassuring word. The truth was Rhys didn’t know how serious it was. Another trainee had gotten a nasty injury early during this two-month run by tearing tendons in his knee or something like that. It obviously wasn’t stopping him from doing what he wanted, except for looking left. Rhys could feel the irritation building below the surface. ”I’ll get it looked at after the full moon.” He added. A part of him was incredulous. Eight weeks away, and this is what she wanted to talk about. After another sigh, he spoke again. ”Juni, I don’t know why you’re making a big deal about this. It’s not like—“ Rhys stopped, shaking his head. He didn’t want to do this, plus this wasn’t the worst fall he’d taken. ”Nevermind.” He muttered, frustrated. That time he’d gotten fixed up quickly before coming home, so he hadn’t mentioned it. She hadn’t gotten one of those calls, right? Which is what he’d promised.
Suddenly, he got up from the couch, grumbling a bit as he headed into the kitchen. Really he’d just needed to step away for a second before Juniper started prying. When it came to Rhys, she sometimes could leave it alone, but Juniper could also be so damn persistent. Earlier that year, she’d hovered over him for three entire days until he finally cracked. Rhys went for a glass of water to keep his hands busy. As much as he wanted something stronger, even he knew better than to mix it with a pain-relieving potion. The frequency of his nightmares had decreased dramatically since school, but occasionally Rhys was reminded they were still there. He just happened to be home at that time. Rhys decided to stay in the kitchen for now, not that the couch was far away. He supposed he was annoyed because Merlin forbid he'd wanted to come home after so long away rather than St. Mungo’s.

▲ She nailed it. There was a feeling of victory, if only for all the wrong reasons. There were times where she wished she didn't win, the high of being correct always fizzling out faster than her brain told her it would. A lot of that had disappeared the second school was over with, as her work rarely excited the chemicals in the same manner. An argument over the correct method to fold a document sent via owl was the closest she'd gotten since graduation. She won that one as well, as her opponent thought for some reason that folding paperwork vertically was a good idea. It made her feel great the rest of the day. But that wasn't happening now, and she quickly debated with whether or not continuing this line was worth it. On one hand she wanted to just stop where she was with her tiny win. On the other...it was so tempting to keep going. Juniper let him keep talking though, and he said he'd get it looked at after the full moon. And that she was making it out to be more than it actually was. She started to bite her tongue, not wanting to interrupt wherever this was going. His abrupt way of cutting himself off and getting up to go to the kitchen was definitely not what she was expecting. She hopped to her feet to follow, staying purposely on his left side. That would drive the point home. To be able to properly speak to her, he was going to have to physically turn his entire body now. Because this wasn't nothing. "No, not nevermind. I'm making a big deal about it because you aren't," she finally said as she stood at the edge of the kitchen and watched him fill up a glass with water. Now she was getting upset. This refusal to see a healer absolutely blew her mind. "If you're hurt, you go and get it treated. You don't have to play the tough guy act around me." Hopefully that wasn't too much. She didn't really know what the group dynamic of the Cursebreaker trainees was, but she had an inkling based on how Rhys acted when Saffron was around. Proving toughness against all odds seemed to be part of it though. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside More than once, a trainer had pulled Rhys aside and reminded him that this was not a career for a lone wolf, so to speak. And every time, he’d end up frustrated because, in his mind, that’s not what he was doing. It wasn’t as if he was out of practice. Many of his classes at Hogwarts required some kind of teamwork, such as Potions. And Rhys and Juniper were both stubborn and competitive, so there wasn’t a chance one or the other would let them complete the Potion’s assignment on their own. But other classes also required it in some way, shape, or form.
Even Saff had commented on it, remarking he probably wouldn’t have ended up almost falling into that trap had he the self-awareness of the other trainee around him. Juniper followed him into the kitchen, ruining his plan of finding a few seconds alone to gather himself. None of his training helped him in such a situation. He was also acutely aware that she walked on his left side. He could barely see her in his peripheral vision as he couldn’t just look. At this rate, he just might find the whiskey, as he didn’t want to end up with a headache on top of his pain.
Downing the water, he set it aside and leaned against the counter, so Juniper was straight ahead of him. No turning required. Carefully he crossed his arms, scoffing at her comment. ”Its not some act.” He responded. ”All my life, I’ve dealt with all kinds of injuries, so this is nothing.” The life of a werewolf who appeared to have a secret desire to exist as a punching bag for his first six years at school. It was what brought him into the Hospital Wing that day, wasn’t it? But whatever it was, Rhys always pushed through and kept going. What other choice did he have growing up? Nobody was there to hold his hand, so he had to forge a strong sense of self-reliance.
There was some semblance of bravado among Cursebreakers. Rhys wouldn’t deny that, but everybody knew the most arrogant ones would never last as much as the feeble ones. Maybe Rhys had something to prove—no, he did have something to prove. It felt like he’d always had to. But it wasn’t that he was some ‘tough guy’. Rhys wasn’t one to ask for help. In this case, he still didn’t see why he had to mention stuff like this. What could she do about it? ”Look—it's not any worse than yesterday. It can wait a couple days.” And Rhys sort of hated St. Mungo’s. Merlin knew he’d spent more than enough time there during his life thus far. ”I don’t want you to worry about these things.”

▲ Calling this whole thing an act probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, yet when caught up in the heat of the moment it was how it came out of her. Too late to time-turner it now. At the same time, Juniper took issue with the way he thought about himself. There was absolutely nothing right about being fine with pain and injuries. She knew what he meant by it, but he also didn't have to live like that anymore. Obviously choosing this line of work presented him with a higher chance of risk and reward than most other career paths, and maybe that was on purpose. It didn't have to be that way at all though. There were plenty of veteran cursebreakers she'd heard of that managed to make it through decades of work with very little in the way of permanent injuries. Yet shrugging off the little ones still didn't sound like a smart choice to her. Watching the way Rhys had to lean on the counter in order to face her wasn't the sort of pettiness that she'd been aiming for, but she figured it drove the point home. And now he was saying it wasn't any worse than the previous day, and how it could wait a few days before actually getting it looked at. Then what was the point? Suffering for the sake of suffering? This wasn't the Pain Olympics, as much as he was apparently trying for gold. "You know that's impossible," she shot back. Of course she was going to worry. Not worrying was a lack of caring in her mind. Especially after the waiver had been signed. That was the sort of thing she hoped to never have enforced. She really didn't understand what the hang-up was about this. All he had to do was go to Mungo's, have a healer take a look at it, they'd either use a spell or give him a potion, and then he'd be on his way. It was so simple that it frustrated her beyond belief. Letting out an annoyed sigh, she continued, "I just...I don't understand why you don't care about your own health."MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Wish I could keep you in amber Safe from the outside Even Rhys could admit that was a stupid thing to ask of her. How she’d looked at him a year and a half ago when Rhys handed her that scroll had never left his mind. And he remembered making that promise that she’d never get ‘the call’. It was one of those overly optimistic and symbolic things one did for comfort. He usually wasn’t good at thinking those things up. This one had just felt natural. And It was his intention to keep that promise. He just had to train hard enough. And none of this was any different than how he approached things in school, so he couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t just drop it.
Rhys looked at Juniper for a few moments. This wasn’t what he wanted for his limited time at home. And it wasn’t their first time jumping right into a fight either. It felt worse when it was left on that note. But he’d like to think the majority of the time, it wasn’t like that. It was easier to focus on his work without that lingering in his mind. It felt impossible, but Rhys’ brain was determined for him to have his freedom, but he also wanted her. Looking away momentarily, he didn’t understand where she got that idea. Hadn’t she known him long enough by now? ”I do care about my health.” Rhys’ arms uncrossed. Werewolves who didn’t care about their health didn’t last very long. That took more of a toll on his body than Cursebreaking did. Two days before a full moon was not the time for any kind of provoking argument.
At least the potion had kicked in, so the minute movements didn’t bother him. ”What I don’t understand is why you can’t trust me to deal with this.” It wasn’t as if he’d left injuries unattended during this time. Every single one of them had sustained some kind of injury and gotten it fixed and kept going. It was the job. And in the field, medical help wasn’t always available so quickly. It was easy to blame the full moon for his aggravation, but it was merely a piece of who Rhys was. ”Do you think this is my first injury?” Rhys paused after his rhetorical question. Merlin knew what state Juniper would be in if she shared every little thing that happened to him. Not including the few times he’d been forced to use some kind of “Werewolf Inn” because his timing for wolfsbane had been off. Finally, he just shook his head, exasperated. ”I always make it home, don’t I?”
