PERSONALITY Amy is headstrong and adventurous, and used to getting her way. Growing up as the youngest child, and only female, Amy was afforded opportunities that her brothers were not. Spoilt and well-loved, Amy was never actually very unkind to anyone. She simply had different life circumstances, making her naive and easily taken advantage of. Believing she could do anything she wanted, Amy decided she wanted to be free (as most girls of eighteen wish). Still finding herself, Amy picked up her life in America and moved to Scotland on a whim after discovering a long lost sister’s birth certificate tucked away in her mom’s files. Though she had attended Hogwarts for a single year, Amy did not completely understand the depth of this move. She fled with no real understanding of how hard it was to restart her life in a different country, which was very on brand for a young, spoilt American girl with no idea of the real world. Her first few months in Scotland have proven extraordinarily difficult, and Amy is starting to come to terms with the fact that just because she wants something doesn’t mean it is true. Balthazar, half-kneazle half cat (owns Amy) HISTORY Amy Astor-Shaw was the final child born to Adalina and Thomas Astor-Shaw. She was the product of a loving marriage, and knew nothing but support and adoration as she grew up with two elder brothers who would go to the ends of the Earth to protect her. Amy knew both her parents were British, but was unaware of why they didn’t really wish to return there. Ever. Amy assumed bad blood, but never questioned more. She was perfectly happy with her little California life, where she could sneak out to the beach, roughhouse with her brothers, and generally do whatever she wanted (within reason, her father always insisted). Thomas was a film producer, and therefore money was never an issue for the family. They lavished on expensive, all-inclusive holidays. Amy developed a taste for the finer things in life, as well as the feeling of sun beating down on her fair skin. All three Astor-Shaw children were enrolled in Ilvermorny as their time came. Amy had been sorted into Wampus, but she had never been a particularly academic child. She suffered immensely from dyslexia, and would often try to get around her assigned readings. Subsequently, her marks took a nosedive and she managed to get through her exams only by the skin of her teeth. But Amy was supremely unconcerned with her schoolwork. Amy’s life continued largely unchanged throughout her educational career. She spent a single year at Hogwarts (much to her parents' reluctance, but they really had no choice) after Ilvermorny had been vandalised, and never worried about making friends wherever she went. She had a quiet sort of charisma - and the fact that her father was a Hollywood producer was no secret. Upon her return to Ilvermorny for her sixth year, Amy started to get into a rhythm of things. On a whim, Amy signed up for alchemy. She wanted as little to do with textbooks as possible, and alchemy was largely a practical subject. It was love at first lesson - the first and only course Amy had actually enjoyed. She had a natural predilection for transmuting ordinary substances into the extraordinary, and for the first time in her life, Amy was at the top of her class. It was the only subject in which she excelled, and was likely the only reason she was able to graduate from Ilvermorny rather than repeating her final year. The summer after graduation, Amy made a disturbing discovery. She’d been looking for her birth files in her mother’s belongings for an internship role her mother had sorted out for her - she would be the apprentice of a renowned Alchemist up in San Francisco. However, Amy found more than she had bargained for. Amy had another sister. The ground-breaking, earth-shattering revelation had Amy’s entire world tilting. She’d grown up as the apple of her parent’s eyes, the only girl. But it was all a lie. Amy managed to do some digging on this mysterious sister - Alora Astor. She wasn’t hard to find. Alora was exceptionally high achieving and academic, which made Amy feel extremely unwell. She’d studied at NYU before moving to Scotland for a teaching position. And upon further investigation on the WWWW (world wide wizarding web), Amy found that Alora was taking up a position at MAGIC, teaching Herbology. Now, Amy was reviled by the idea of ruining her perfect manicure with manure, but she realised that in order to meet Alora, she wouldn’t have to get dirty. It turned out that there were further education courses at this new Hogwarts campus, and she could even take her alchemical studies further. Amy shared none of this information with her mother or father. After all, they’d kept a sister from her for eighteen whole years! Now a fully fledged adult, Amy needed no permission from her parents to enrol in LIFE. So with a credit card and a suitcase, Amy left for Scotland without a backwards glance. If she had thought integrating into the student lifestyle and Scottish weather had been difficult at 15, it was nothing compared to life at LIFE as an alchemy student. Her parents had promptly cut off her credit card, leaving Amy without any money and without any support. She had never realised just how much she relied on her family - but Amy was determined to learn more about Alora, and so she persevered. SITE EVENTS REACTION Having been at Ilvermorny and based in America, Amy was not much affected by the Kings Cross bombings or the Triwizard Tournament attacks in Britain, nor did she particularly care that Hermione Granger had gotten herself blown up at a Quidditch match. They were just things that happened to faceless people. In 2024, Ilvermorny was vandalised, at the end of Amy’s fourth year. Against her parents wishes, Amy was sent off to Hogwarts where she was sorted into Gryffindor. The Scottish weather did not particularly agree with her, so Amy was more than delighted to return to Ilvermorny the following year for her sixth year, where at least she could see the sun. WANT AD
