dreama azurovna NIGHTSHADE
WAND 10 inches, pine, coral core, hard
APPEARANCE As a former professional Quidditch player, Dreama has an athletic build. She is relatively tall, though, at 5'8" in height. She has fair skin, dark green eyes, and wavy light brown hair that she keeps at a medium length. Dreama's manner of dress has changed considerably over the years, from being very put-together in a very typically "Russian" fashion when she was a student to becoming more sporty and tomboyish as a professional athlete. Since settling down on Hy-Brasil, however, she has gradually swapped much of her wardrobe for more obviously Druidic apparel, such as traditional robes and the like. Her only piercings are on her earlobes, which are pierced once in each. Since welcoming her daughter into the world, she has a few visible stretch marks from her pregnancy but no significant scarring. | pronunciation DREE-muh AH-zur-OHV-nah NITE-shayd nickname Dream, if anything. Her name doesn't lend itself well to Russian diminutives, unfortunately. age & birthday 22 1 July 2005 gender & pronouns Cisgender female She/her pronouns blood status Pure-blood sexuality Heterosexual face claim Alina Boz | |||||||||||||||||||||||
PERSONALITY The first thing that most people are likely to see about Dreama's personality is that she isn't a particularly outgoing person with those she doesn't know and trust, which can make her appear more standoffish than she really is. It isn't that she actually has a problem with most other people, but her straightforwardness and lack of willingness to sugarcoat situations has a tendency to put her at odds with those who aren't used to this approach. Whether on or off the Quidditch pitch, Dreama always has been a very determined person. She sets goals for herself and won't stop until she achieves them, which some might view as stubbornness more than anything. Although Russians aren't generally stereotyped as being friendly on the whole, this isn't actually the case for Dreama. She might not be an outwardly happy-go-lucky individual, but she isn't cold. As a mother, especially, she is very loving and gentle with her daughter, wanting to raise her very differently than the way in which she was raised by her own mother. Since her time as a student at Koldovstoretz, Dreama has been very athletic, which led to her short career as a professional Quidditch player. Even though she works as a bartender on Hy-Brasil, she remains health-conscious in her own life and wants to pass the same attitude on to her daughter. erised: In the short term, Dreama plans to marry her partner. More long-term, in addition to being married, she would love to have more children and see them grow up to be happy and healthy. amortentia: To Dreama, Amortentia smells like broom polish, strawberries, and pine. boggart: Dreama's Boggart would take the form of her maternal grandfather, and her greatest fear is that her family could target her partner and/or her child. Being the older of a set of twins born to a Russian mother and a British father and her carrying her mother's surname wasn't exactly the reason for her being different; instead, it had everything to do with the families into which she was born. Both the Nightshades and the Selwyns had reputations in the magical world that were closely linked to the Dark Arts, and Dreama and her siblings were not spared from them. Her father died when she was an infant, and one of her older siblings had preceded him in death years before she ever existed. In spite of the unusual dynamics on her mother's side of the family, in particular, Dreama was able to live a relatively "normal" life for a magical Russian child. Unlike many of her relatives, she and her twin attended Koldovstoretz, the best-known wizarding school in Russia. This gave them more exposure to the world beyond the maternal side of their family, but it also made them more aware of how their family was perceived. Dreama knew that people had a lot of things to say about the Nightshade family and how corrupt and even dangerous they were, but she hadn't experienced any of it for herself at that point. She didn't see too much of her extended family members, though she wasn't totally cut off from them, either. Her mother was strict, yet she didn't feel that that was very different from anyone else's parents. At Koldovstoretz, Dreama was a good enough student that she never found herself in any serious trouble, academically or socially. She preferred to focus on the school's version of Quidditch, a game played while flying on uprooted trees as opposed to broomsticks. Despite a tree's being thicker than a broom's handle, she became known for how easily and quickly she could maneuver through the air. Her Quidditch prospects nearly came to a halt, however, when her older brother, Dmitriy Nightshade, was killed in 2022, during her final year of schooling. Dreama was devastated by both his death and the reignition of the rumors that swirled around in relation to her family. She became motivated to leave Russia—and Eastern Europe in general, if she could. Going somewhere where she was less likely to be seen as a risk of any sort to others seemed ideal. She decided to put as much of her effort as she could into Quidditch and hoped that it would pay off. It did, at least partially. The Wimbourne Wasps weren't exactly her first choice, but they were a professional Quidditch team, and signing with them as a Chaser beginning in the summer of 2023 meant that she could leave Russia without having a target on her back from her own relatives or anyone else. Although she never knew her father because he had died so early on in her life, Dreama was grateful that she was able to get by with her relatively "English" name in her Quidditch career, even though she spoke English with a Russian accent. It made things easier to have the focus on her own accomplishments, even though there were certainly those who were aware of her lineage and expected her to play rough, cheat, or otherwise do something to affect the integrity of her matches. Dreama, however, performed well on the pitch (and entirely on her own merits). She enjoyed a successful career overall, and she kept her behavior off the pitch from being anything of interest to gossip columnists who wanted to tarnish her reputation. In fact, in only her second season as a professional Chaser, the Wasps seemed poised to win the league title. The match against Yorkshire on that June day in 2025 was like nothing Dreama had experienced. She was relatively young, but she knew that she wanted to prove herself in the Quidditch world. It seemed so likely to happen, too. The stands were filled with fans dressed in yellow and black stripes, and everything seemed to be going well. The tragic turn of events came out of nowhere, part of the stadium exploding as the Quidditch players had no choice but to look on. Fearing that the incident had something to do with her family or that someone would find a way to associate her with it even though the press was calling it an accident, Dreama promptly packed what she could fit into a suitcase that had been expanded by magical means and traveled to Hy-Brasil. There, she knew, she could remain in a purely magical environment while avoiding any association with the Dark Arts. She communicated her plans only to her two living siblings, expressing her desire to be left alone. With no familiarity with Druidic culture nor any knowledge of Brasilic whatsoever, Dreama decided that she wanted to integrate into life on Hy-Brasil. She stayed at the Flaming Wand, the only inn on the island, and decided that she would offer her assistance to the owner of the Flaming Wand to work as a bartender in its pub. She spoke English and so could interact with most of the visitors to the island without a problem, and she didn't think that the bartending aspect would be too difficult. While working (and especially while off the clock), Dreama absorbed what she could about the Druids' lives and culture. Nightshade itself was a plant, of course, which made her name seem more similar in some ways to those of the Druids, something that she appreciated because it made it easier to seem like one of them. She began to build a life for herself on the island, even bartering her way to creating a one-bedroom cottage for herself a short distance from Boudicca's Grace. At the same time, the fall of the barrier that protected the magic on Hy-Brasil was of great concern to her. Dreama did what she could from Hy-Brasil to help keep the remaining magical creatures from escaping the island, and she felt that her effort strengthened her relationship with the Druids. She probably should have realized that everything was going a little too well, because the news came in 2026 that her older sister, Stella, also was killed. Dreama began to anticipate that it would be only a matter of time before she, too, would end up having to fight for her life, and this fear kept her firmly rooted on Hy-Brasil. Even if her relatives did come after her, she told herself, she would be safer with the Druids than with anyone. The chaos on what the Druids referred to as the "mainland," including the destruction of Hogwarts, made it clear to Dreama that she had made the right choice. She felt that Hy-Brasil was better off having greater levels of autonomy, since the Ministry of Magic had proven its inability to keep its people safe. By the start of 2027, Dreama had gotten pregnant by and had a baby girl with a Druid young man. They named the child Stella, after Dreama's late sister, and she became their pride and joy. Life on the mainland seemed to be returning to normal, but Dreama had established a life for herself on Hy-Brasil and had no intentions of going back, whether to the rest of the British Isles or to Russia. She was perfectly content to raise her daughter in peace as a Druid child and began making plans to wed the child's father. SITE EVENTS REACTION Because she attended Koldovstoretz and not Hogwarts, Dreama was spared from many of the earlier sitewide events. (Her family's own dynamics probably make up for that, though.) As a player for the Wimbourne Wasps during the championship match that was actually attacked by Elaine Dupree, Dreama was affected psychologically, more than anything. She was not seriously injured in the chaos but lost one of her teammates in the explosion of the stadium. Likewise, her other surviving teammates—as well as Yorkshire's players—were left to deal with what had occurred (even if deemed "accidental" at the time) with little assistance. Believing that her family had something to do with what occurred, Dreama was motivated to travel to the Druid island of Hy-Brasil, where she has since settled. Little by little, she has built a life for herself while remaining horrified by the goings-on outside the safety of Hy-Brasil. WANT AD
