Valentine’s Day used to be such a big event to Gilderoy. His father in years along ago held events for it but it was more of an excuse to celebrate himself. Gilderoy always knew his father had been full of himself back when he actually knew who he was. His fathers’ memories still fragmented and on his best day he could remember a fact or two. Still he had looked up to him, at least til he learned just how much of a fraud he had actually been. Yet, even now it was hard to hate someone who just couldn’t remember what they had done. Gilderoy was guilty of some of the same things his father had done. Certainly not wiping memories but he had been full of himself all the same. He had even thrown a Valentine’s Day party himself back when he was in school. It was a fun night of partying and dancing but thinking back it was just also another attempt to convince people how great he was.
Walking Hogsmeade was hard during Valentine’s Day too. He didn’t have anybody and when the news first broke about his father he pushed many people away. He didn’t want people to look down on him after being so wrong all these years. Finding it better to just be alone. Now he could see that was the wrong move in so many ways now that he had gotten what he wanted. The pink decorations and loving couples was a bittersweet feeling all the same. He could enjoy the atmosphere while still looking on as an outsider. Enjoying the rare snack from a vendors cart.
This had been a nice distraction from his day to day. He walked into one part of the event which was mostly games it seemed. There was your usual fair. Guess how many every flavor beans were in a jar, which seemed to constantly change as some just hopped out at random. Probably as a way to keep people from winning. A small pool for seahorse fishing, with a prize allotted to which ever color out happened to catch. One game that caught his eye was a booth set up with a smaller version of summoner’s court. Something he hadn’t seen since his early years in school. Typically used to train the summoning charm. It could be played with two people as a contest or just by oneself. Prizes also allotted based on score. Caught in a nostalgic mood Gilderoy got in line. Mostly expecting to just be playing it alone, either way it seemed to be a fun time.
