PERSONALITY The youngest of the four Fleming children, Shiloh has tried to craft herself around what she views as the best aspects of each of her siblings because she looks up to all of them in different ways. Temperance's responsibility and leadership when their dad couldn't be there to do what he was supposed to. A rock and stability that they all needed even though she never should have been the one required to do it. But also a template on how to push forward and be aware of her own actions around others. To be reassuring and helpful to the ones that needed it and to reel herself in when it's not necessary. Shiloh doesn't view herself as a leader, but has no problem walking ahead when absolutely necessary. Calliope's unwavering ability to be whomever she wants to be, without ever compromising her true self for how others want her to be. She views being genuine as an ultimate truth, a way to cut through all of the insanity of the world especially over the last few years. While not a metamorphmagus, Shiloh has taken to using color charms on her hair frequently over the years in an attempt to mimic her older sister, so that she never has to feel truly alone in her uniqueness. Cosmetic changes don't hinder authenticity, and she's always believed that Cal exemplifies this despite what Temperance says about her impulsiveness. And finally, Elijah's selflessness and fun ways at approaching life. Thick as thieves in more than having to deal with the initial move to England and Hogwarts. The totem to allow her to forgo responsibility every now and then when it's called for. That school isn't everything, and following her dreams is as important, if not more so. Out of all of her siblings, Shiloh thinks she's closest to Eli because of this. There's less seriousness in their bond than she feels she has with the other two, though it's not because of a lack of respect towards any of them. Eli has always been there as the welcome distraction, the one to push the harshness of the world to the side just a bit to make everything a little easier. With all of that being said, she also isn't a clone of any of her siblings or trying to become a mini-me of them. Driven and focused, Shiloh knows the best approach to everything is to follow what she wants and without any regrets. This is potentially a side effect of her mom's disappearance a few years prior, a switch in her brain flipping and telling her at 13 that it was 'time to grow up', even though she knows that's not what her siblings actually want. The change from naivety to now has been extremely slow because she's believed that her mom will show back up again some, but with the very recent death of her dad, she isn't quite sure how that will change things going forward. It's still too raw. In school, she enjoys more practical and hands on classes. Potions, herbology, spell casting...the usual fun stuff that doesn't require hours of reading and listening to professors droning on in class. She's easily excitable about all of these topics (specifically charms and enchanting) and will become a chatterbox about any of their applications if given the chance. The same could be said about her passion for art and painting. Because of her inability to control the word vomit, school gossip tends to leak from her if she's privy to whatever is currently the hot topic. It definitely has to do with a lack of foresight when it comes to talking about her interests, but it hasn't gotten her in too much trouble yet. She thinks it's a defense mechanism of sorts to hide away the reality of her parents, leaning on both Eli and Cal as examples to be a bit chaotic at times. You only live once after all. Tumbling after the older children was a frequent occurrence, always wanting to be a part of whatever her siblings were doing. With her brother being the closest age, it was easier to tag along with Eli than the other two. Especially once school began for both Temperance and Calliope. Off they went, only making appearances during Christmas and the summer. Those were fleeting memories, and once she was old enough to understand she'd get to do the same, it was year after year of asking when it would be her time to go. Eleven and five were basically the same ages, right? The hardest was definitely when Eli finally had his turn to go to school, and she finally understood what being alone was like. Their parents were fine and life was basically normal. Sure, their mom worked a lot but Shiloh understood at a young age that being an Auror was important. And getting to tag along to her dad's Quidditch practices was sometimes exciting. But sitting on the pitch playing with a kid-sized Quaffle on her own wasn't exactly the epitome of fun for her. The only time it was actually cool was when she got to go up on a broom (safely of course) or there was a practice match she could watch from the stands. Other than that, it was just her and her parents for those years before Ilvermorny. Until it wasn't. Maybe it was rose-colored glasses or being too young to understand the full weight of what happened, but it took Shiloh an incredibly long time to understand that her mom wasn't going to just show back up randomly one day. Luciana was gone and that was that. The time between her disappearance and the start at Ilvermorny was long for only being a little over a year. Temp was already out of school by the time Shiloh started, so she was able to see her oldest sister a bit before being shipped off to finally join the other two. Being placed in Pukwudgie with Eli was the best thing that had happened to her since the disappearance too. She always knew she'd get the guidance she wanted from her brother, but being in the same house together only made it easier. And she could finally understand what all the raving over school was about! Classes were unbelievably fun and she was finally able to meet other kids aside from her siblings that held similar interests that she did. Talking Quidditch definitely won over a few friends immediately, as until that point she had never realized Quodpot was more popular in the US. And so the first two years at Ilvermorny flew by. Before she could start her third, the school was destroyed and the tough decision by her dad to move the family across the Atlantic was made. Her sisters argued and fought constantly with their father about doing this, and all Shiloh could do was sit and listen. The hardest part about the move was constantly wondering if her mom would know where to find them once she showed back up again. Obviously Shiloh knew magic would help, but it was certainly a worry of hers. It was stressful packing up her room in California and sending everything over to London, especially because she knew of classmates that were simply being sent by their parents to Hogwarts and not full on moving like the her own family was. Somehow that wasn't fair, and she only began to understand why Temp and Cal had done what they did when they were moving into their new home. Attending Hogwarts was definitely a change of pace, but she and Eli were in it together and once again placed in the same house: Hufflepuff. Throughout the insanity of everything that occurred over the next year, she always knew she had her brother by her side to help just in case she needed it. Hogwarts also awakened something of a new passion of hers: moving portraits. Ilvermorny had a few of these, but this school was covered in them. Shiloh enjoyed having conversations with the various inhabitants of the portraits, learning more about the history of the magical world than any book could ever teach her. It was at this point that she decided she wanted to become a moving portrait artist after school. She already had a knack for drawing and painting, and Hogwarts had an art club primed with members that could help her learn better techniques. Even Eli was in it! That bliss ended after the first year at Hogwarts though, and Eli had graduated just like Temp and Cal had years earlier. Once again she was alone. Sure, she had her Ilvermorny and Hogwarts friends all together in the same place, but she could only see her siblings on breaks or Hogsmeade trips. It was just like the years before she started school again. Shiloh decided then that she needed to take the reigns for herself and make the most of it. She'd spent years following and learning from her siblings, and always relied on them. As a fourth year, her independence had to come at some point. And maybe she asked for a bit too much of it when Hogwarts was subsequently attacked near the end of the year. She had been paralyzed throughout it, having been desperately hungry for dinner that night. She'd been so close to not being frozen too, one of the girls sitting across from her at the table stopping the one next to her from eating as well before both ran off in terror. But unfortunately she'd already taken a bite and was instantly statuesque. The flashes of feet sprinting by her after she'd been knocked onto the ground and pushed under one of the Hufflepuff tables were confusing until she started to smell the smoke and could hear the screams coming from the Entrance Hall. Had it just been a prank with someone putting a potion into the dinner, she probably could have laughed it off after being fixed up. But the panic all around her that she couldn't even see led to the most excruciating moment of her life. Stuck in place under the table, eyes widened and terrified, unable to move or scream for help...she thought this was it for her. And then all at once the table was moved and she felt her body float into the air, before she was levitated out into the cold night through a hole in the wall of the Great Hall. Reassuring words were whispered into her ear by a woman that said she was an Auror there to help. There was a point during the careful run through the grounds where her body spun around and she was able to see the castle, now alight with unnatural flames. Other students were stuck like her, also being floated out and down towards Hogsmeade, and eventually to a tent where she was treated and freed from her paralytic prison. That summer, Shiloh refused to leave her bedroom. Plagued by nightmares and sleep paralysis that mimicked the night at Hogwarts, she spent as much time awake as possible. Obviously they wasn't healthy but there was very little worry from her dad. None of it was right, and the second she was offered the chance to go back to Ilvermorny for her fifth year, she took it. Back in Pukwudgie, the professors there were able to help reassure her that nothing like what happened at Hogwarts could occur again. The first sign of her new fear of fire and smoke came during a Potions class. She wasn't the only one either, though a lot better than some had it. Small doses of exposure to it got her to a point where she could work on a cauldron without further problems. But spells that used fire or caused any sort of opaque cloud or smoke were off limits. It brought her right back to that night every single time, and then weeks of unrelenting nightmares would follow. Fifth year ended and she returned to London for the summer to visit the family. At this point, Hogwarts was back and in a different form than it had been before. She contemplated continuing at Ilvermorny, running back to Massachusetts every September so that she wouldn't have to deal with her dad's apparent lack of interest in anything any of them did. But it would also be easier to go back to Hogwarts and have the chance to see her siblings with more frequency. Rightfully scared of going back after what happened the year before, Shiloh returned as a first year LIFE student in 2027. Everything went fine through the first term, and the odd amount of freedom she had there now was refreshing. It seemed normal again. Going into the spring term, she was excited to get it done and out of the way so that she could figure out plans for the summer with her siblings. At least she was until she was called into a meeting with the heads of houses and told that her dad had died, found by Eli. SITE EVENTS REACTION See history. WANT AD
