WAND black walnut, phoenix feather, quite bendy, 11 1/5th inches
APPEARANCE Oberon is tall, at 5'10", gaining at least that from his father. Otherwise, he shares many features with his mother, including his complexion, brown eyes, and brown curly hair. More often than not, he keeps it relatively short and has a consistently short beard. But every once in a while, he lets it grow out where you can see the curls. Some days he bothers to do something with it, and other days he doesn’t. Oberon goes with the flow on that front, though he isn’t particularly picky about it. He’s athletic since he enjoys the outdoors, and he came back from the States with various tattoos that he more or less just thought were neat. | pronunciation oh-ber-ohn nickname Obie Obi-Wan (given to him by a muggle-born coworker) age & birthday 28 12 aug 1999 gender & pronouns male he/him blood status pureblood sexuality pansexual face claim chay suede | |||||||||||||||||||||||
PERSONALITY His mother tells him that he’s too trusting for his own good. And maybe she’s right. Oberon is an optimist, resulting from his relatively normal upbringing surrounded by wonderful parents who adored one another and a large family on the other side of the world. And all these factors culminated in turning Oberon into a terribly hopeless romantic. He is someone that loves easily and just wants that in return. But his eyes seem to endlessly fall on the unavailable. The spot deemed the “friend zone” might as well have been a permanently reserved VIP seat. Time and time again, he walks the same path with renewed hope, only to end up with the same result. At least on the platonic front, it seems to have worked out far better. Oberon is easy to get along with. He might miss what you’re saying because he was daydreaming, but his heart is in the right place. Plus, he lights up if there is some common topic to discuss, although he’s careful to not bring up his work. On other days you can find Oberon with a book, sometimes new or sometimes old, or perhaps he was in the mood to reread Julia Quinn novels. He’s happy to go to work every day, although the chaos in the world weighs on him a bit. It takes more energy to stay optimistic some days. And he supposed that’s his one fatal flaw. Oberon wants to find the good in people or believes it's there. He’s not so naive to say that it's there in someone like Asher Burke but in general. The boy has a brain built for complex ideas and thoughts, yet he can’t see when he’s led on until it's too late. In fact, he’s not the type to indulge in one-night stands, but someone could lead him down that path if they only offer him hope of something more. And that’s the truth he doesn’t want to hear most of the time. He claims to be perfectly comfortable with his feelings, but the truth is—he isn’t. If better control existed, he wouldn’t find himself literally living the definition of insanity. Then again, he was never the confrontational type, either. But it didn’t phase him all that much. In fact, once Oberon confirmed his relationship, confusion soon followed. He hardly looked like his more famous cousin (third cousin, to be precise). Jimbo Blishwick’s face appeared in many places, including any picture in the Prophet where he stands proudly at some event. Oberon actually looks a lot like his mother, Illiana. Once upon a time, a pureblood wizard named Jackson Blishwick traveled to South America after graduating from Hogwarts. Mere months before his internship in a media job began, he wanted to explore and experience the world. Unfortunately, he could reasonably afford one trip at this point in time, but it was enough. Jackson traveled through various countries before arriving in Colombia. Now, this part of the story always captivated Oberon when he was young. Jackson describes sitting at the cafe outside el Museo de Antioquia, resting before entering the museum. And as he people-watched, he froze as his eyes stopped on a young woman. The people around her seemed to move out of her way, like the parting of the sea, and even the clouds stepped aside to let the sun through. As Oberon grew older, he learned to take some of his father’s stories with a grain of salt. As one of the Directors at Witch TV, Jackson loved big stories with fantastic elements. It didn’t stop him from enjoying it in any case. ’Love at first sight!’ He called it. Iliana usually shook her head at the thought of nature moving aside so they could meet, but Oberon always noted a twinkle in her eye. She was an artist. So while his father told fantastical stories, his mother expressed herself through her art. If you ask Iliana’s version of events, she excludes the part where the people all moved aside, as did the clouds, but she remembers a jolt, a spark, and goosebumps as their eyes locked for the first time. Now, Jackson leaves out the part where he barely knew enough Spanish for an entire conversation. He stuttered through an invitation to have coffee until Iliana took pity on the man as she was bilingual and spoke English. They were both eighteen years old. Letters and short visits sustained them until Jackson’s home once again felt safe. Jackson had graduated the year before that last stand at Hogwarts, although the ripple was felt by them all in the years before. Finally, Iliana moved to London in the latter half of 1998. They planned their wedding and their life together, only to find out Iliana was pregnant near the end of the year The story doesn’t end there, but that’s typically where his father stopped. And this is what Oberon grew up with. The first few years of his life were spent in Colombia with his mother’s family until he returned to England. His childhood was pretty normal, and sometimes it felt almost perfect. The story of his parent's relationship might as well have been a fairy tale. Occasionally, they would travel back to South America to visit family or vacation. His mother’s family is quite large, so he was never bored as an endless stream of cousins was always around. Unfortunately, he had no siblings himself. But Oberon simply thought it was part of the fairy tale. As he approached age eleven, talk and questions began on where Oberon would begin his magical education. Iliana and her siblings, cousins, parents, grandparents, great-great aunt, and her cousin, who is actually her aunt, and all the rest were alumni of Castelobruxo. Attendance at the famous school in Brazil was just assumed, but Oberon’s parents leaned toward a different path: Hogwarts. This caused strife in the family for some time. This was going against the family’s wishes, and Iliana’s family was proud of their history. It so happened that Iliana was a pureblood, although many muggles slowly joined the extended family. But, it all felt decided when Oberon’s letter arrived for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And so he went, sorting into Hufflepuff. His father had sort of been hoping for Gryffindor like himself but was proud nonetheless. And Oberon felt like he fit right in. Naturally, there were questions about his name, as it was well-known in the magical community, but he just always had to explain that his family had nothing to do with all the matchmaking stuff. Oberon excelled at a few subjects: Charms, Herbology, and Astronomy. And some subjects simply would not stick, such as Potions. He also played on the Hufflepuff House Quidditch team, technically. He spent a few years as a reserve player before opting for other activities and clubs. Overall, it was a fairly normal experience for a pre-teen and teenager. Every time he went home on summer break, Christmas break, etc., he had a new handful of stories about someone else he’d fallen in love with. Well, whatever that meant at that age. But thus far, nothing like his parents’ fairy tale was happening. Oberon graduated, accepting an internship at the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic. If he was being honest, he only applied for that internship because of a girl that had him neatly wrapped around her finger. That hadn’t worked out, but this internship did. As the name suggested, it was a mystery to work in this Department. Full of enigmatic characters with interesting thoughts and ideas. During his school days, Oberon enjoyed reading and learning. His interest in Herbology let him explore the grounds more than most students, but he also enjoyed the company of his friends. Maybe this internship was meant to be—not the fairy tale he’d hoped, or at least not yet. During his early years at Hogwarts, Oberon was introduced to more Blishwicks. It seemed, at least in Jackson’s family tree branch, that this branch was rather small. His father had no siblings and a handful of cousins. But Jimbo Blishwick was not a forgettable man, and Oberon also met his daughter Jimmie and Jimbo’s brother and his kids, including Lulu. They were far younger than him, so even now, it seems they can connect more. Well, depending on the personalities involved. He was happy at the Ministry, but Oberon made a decision after completing his first internship year. There was a girl in his year at Hogwarts, Slytherin. Beautiful, intelligent, and funny. And within a few minutes, Oberon had daydreamed about a future. But he knew better than to say those things out loud. Over the years, they formed a genuine friendship, but towards the end–sixth and seventh year Oberon couldn’t deny what he felt. But she never saw him in that light. Merlin is this what the friend zone really felt like? She also secured an internship at the Ministry, and those feelings never left, but things were different because now she had tied hope to a string and dangled it in front of Oberon for almost a year before he realized it was fake. No fairy tale for him. And he opted for a different opportunity than to stay and wallow for too long. More than longing for those dreams to come true, Oberon craved something new. He decided to complete his internship in the United States. MACUSA didn’t have a Department of Mysteries per se, but they did have a mysterious place with the same enigmatic, albeit simpler, vibe. Area 51 ½ just north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Aside from the city's intolerable desert heat and carnal nature, Oberon enjoyed his time in the States. He used the time to travel and decided the West Coast was lovely. (West Coast Best Coast). And after the year was done, he was placed in one of the adjacent facilities in Utah at Lake Silencio, where they focus on Time and Space. But he was about as predictable as looking for the stars in their places on a moonless night. While he wasn’t fond of Las Vegas, there were still enjoyable parts…and people. This time his eyes landed on a blue-eyed boy. But much like it had back in London, it just ended with Oberon picking up the shattered pieces of hope for his unrequited love. Again he felt like he needed a change. So, he decided to go home where he could work at the Department of Mysteries. Although ironically enough, he was placed in the Love Chamber. Any other person might have found this to be a joke, but he was actually rather excited about it. In fact, he was the first hire of the new Department Head: Asher Burke. Oberon could see where perhaps he was rough around the edges for some, but he always treated Oberon well overall. Later, it was pointed out to him that maybe his pureblood status had gained him favor with Burke. And at the beginning of 2026, Burke assigned him as the new Information Liaison for the Dept. The scrutiny increased, however, as Burke was arrested later that year. The world felt unrecognizable. Between the student murders he had heard about the years prior and the various explosions costing many their lives, Oberon struggled to find hope. It only increased his grip tighter on those long-lost dreams of finding something like what his parents had. Plus, his cousins were so young and at school. There wasn’t much he could do about it except hope for their safety. But that was the thing about the Department of Mysteries. Not even Minister Granger could crack their code and figure out their secrets before she passed. There were things Oberon knew that brought doubt or made him feel uneasy and things that made him feel quite the opposite. His former boss's arrest and subsequent release put him and his colleagues under scrutiny for some time, although Oberon knew he’d done nothing wrong. And after the chaos of the last few years: explosions nearly missing the train from Hogwarts, Quidditch stadiums, and attacking the visiting students for the Tri-Wizard tournament and the quarantine on the Isles. He remembered the horror on his father’s face at the news Harry Potter had gone missing and then when Azkaban fell. Sometimes Oberon wished he’d stayed in the States and away from all this. And really, he hid behind those locked doors at the Ministry more than anything. The sudden calm feels eerie to Oberon. Like sitting in the eye of a storm where nothing moved, and the air stood still. The Department finally gained a new leader, Felix Teller, whom Oberon had occasionally worked with. Although he enjoyed discussing the philosophical aspects of Space and his thoughts on time with his colleague. He still daydreams about his future, hoping it all might be true one day. SITE EVENTS REACTION While Oberon was around for all the events, he's able to hide in the Department of Mysteries, for the most part. He did check on his younger cousins when things were happening at the school and especially after that terrible fire. It felt like a bit of a whirlwind to find out that his boss was not only there but then subsequently arrested for his involvement with such a group. At this point he's waiting for the other shoe to drop. He's a Quidditch fan but are the stadiums still safe? Azkaban was rebuilt but for how long? It's hard for him to find the bright side in all this. WANT AD
