APPEARANCE Tiernan stands about 6 feet 2 inches with a thin and slightly muscular build. He has very fair skin, which is only accentuated by his dark hair. His eyes are piercing blue. His left ear lobe is pierced, and he normally keeps the same one in regardless of what he is doing or where he is. Tiernan is blind, and will often wear sunglasses in muggle society because that seems to be expected. When at Hogwarts or working in the capacity of a professor, he either wears professional robes/clothing. PERSONALITY Tiernan never had a large number of close friends, but was always friendly with those around him. Some of his school friends always said that he was sorted into the wrong house. He loved to read and learn new things. Was it wrong to want to learn everything about a world you only learned existed when you were eleven. His studying didn’t stop at school. Even now, as a professor, he is determined to continue to learn. But it doesn’t stop there. He has always been fascinated with cultures and mythologies from around the world. Learning about how the magical world relates to them is all the better. His biggest dream is to be the foremost authority on Merlin lore and local legends There are only two times in his life that Tiernan has ever wanted to give up. But something always kept him going. Now that he is blind, he is determined more than ever to live his best life. One thing he hates is when people look down on him because he is different. When things are difficult, he tends to become more stoic, preferring not to show that he is having a hard time. To those that he is closest to, he would never dare to betray them. Tiernan was never one for boasting. He much preferred to spend his time reading or enjoying things as they were. He never cared to have many eyes on him. While he was a beater, and he was working though a lot of issues during his later part of school, he never considered himself to be an aggressive person. He is not one to be quick to anger, but rather has a long fuse. Dealing with a number of harsh realities throughout his life, he has learned to take things as they come. He was born around when he was supposed to, to two people who were deeply in love. Being the second child, they knew what they were doing. Though when small, strange things started to occur, the small family just brushed them off as coincidental. As he grew, so did the family. Spending summers with his paternal grandparents who lived on a hebridean island. He would go off and explore, looking for signs of truth in their stories. Being told all manner of legends from the Celtic kingdoms. From as long as he could remember his parents and paternal grandparents worked to teach Tiernan and his siblings Gaelic. Running freely around an island was always the highlight of his summers. Tiernan’s life was perfectly normal, that was, up until a peculiar person came to have a conversation with Tiernan and his parents. Turns out, he had magic. That night, he had dreams where he was actually in the old celtic stories that he had memorized ages ago. Nearing the end of summer, his family went to his maternal grandparents. The talk went to schooling for the young man. That is when his parents told them, and they didn’t take it all that well. Since then, he was considered to be dead to them. For his maternal grandmother’s sister had been a witch, and to think that another came from her line, it was a disaster. Getting books, clothes and all assortment of things was strange, and made him realize how nervous he truly was. This wasn’t a world that he knew at all. The books, which he skimmed, seemed to all be in a completely different language. Saying goodbye to his family, and getting on the train to magic school, had to have been the hardest thing he had done. The nerves didn’t last long, he met some soon to be fellow classmates and they hit it off. Some were born into the world of magic, and some weren’t as familiar. During the sorting ceremony, he was sorted into the house of the snake, Slytherin. Tiernan made some great friends, and learned a lot over the years. He read what he could read and found it fascinating taking what he knew from growing up, and what he was learning now. Shortly before his 5th year started, his parents both died in a car accident on a stormy night. He almost dropped out. Legal guardianship moved to his paternal grandparents. It was the two of them that encouraged him to go back to school and not give up on the chance to learn. The start of that year was hard, but one of his friends made a suggestion that seemed to make everything better. Tiernan tried out and made it onto the Slytherin quidditch team, as a beater. It was an excellent way to get out much of his frustration and build on his protective nature. As his grandparents encouraged, Tiernan completed his O.W.L and N.E.W.T years. After graduation he started working at the Merlin's Mystical Museum of Magic, studying more about Merlin, and the ruins that they have there. There were quite a few years blissful years working at the museum and growing his knowledge. When he was 23, he went to a friends gathering, and met a young man that he been in the same house as he was, but they hadn’t interacted too much during their school years. But for whatever reason, they seemed to hit things off now. Things seemed to be looking up. Though everything changed when he went to the Quidditch World Cup Final. It was amazing, until it wasn’t. Once the explosions started, madness struck. Getting away, and helping people out became his priority. The last thing he remembers was the heat of the fire, and pain before everything went completely black. What turned out to be a few days later, Tiernan woke up, not knowing where he was, and everything was still black. He later learned that he was at St. Mungos, and he was now blind. What happened after that, had to have been the darkest time in his life. But what his parents had taught him, and what his grandparents instilled, he wasn’t going to just give up. It took quite some time, relearning things that he thought were basic. Learning to walk on his own, and even learning braille, so that he could still read like normal. He also learned to rely and use magic in new and creative ways. At the age of 25, Hogwarts reopened, and Tiernan took on the position teaching at L.I.F.E. SITE EVENTS REACTION When things started to go down after his graduation, Tiernan found himself quite glad that he, a muggle born, was no longer there. But then things escellated. Still, he was busy studying and learning in his own corner of the world. Going to the Quidditch Cup Final was when things really hit him, literally. That explosion changed his life for ever. He still has hard days, though it was years ago. He is pushing forward with his life, joingin the staff, moving from reasearch to teaching. Hopefully things will keep getting better. WANT AD
