Arlo was near the end of his course as it stood. Internally he was freaking out. For the most part he was done and dusted, bar some practical hours he still needed to be signed off on. His father had said he’d just sign him off and say he was there and make it easier, but Arlo had decided against that. Taking the easier way would be just that, easier, but it wasn’t the same. He had gotten into the Magic Sports Science course on his own merit and he wanted his degree to be all his own.
Though he wasn’t quite sure if he was ready for life in the real world yet. He had another year before he graduated in the Autumn. But still, that would mean having to grow up, get a job and move on with his life. The real world was scary, and as it was he didn’t feel he had enough control on his life to know what he was at yet. His mum had given him some advice, told him to mind himself, but she had largely sat back and let him do his own thing. Unlike her, but she knew she had to trust him now to make his own decisions. His father had been his usual big headed self and given Arlo much too much ‘advice’ on what his next steps should be i.e. to follow him and do what he wants. Georgie of course had shrugged it all off and focused on her own plans, her year abroad in the states was starting soon and rightly so, she didn’t give a toss about Arlo. He still lived in his dad’s dingey old flat as some grasp at independence, but even that felt stilted. He was alone there for the most part and when he wasn’t it was with people that didn’t matter. He was over Wizder at this stage and had even ventured into the Muggle online dating scene, just to try something new. That had been a failure in itself. He wouldn’t go there again. Not for a while anyway.
For now he just….was.
He had started spending more time in the LIFE campus library, clinging on to whatever little time he had left prior to graduation. It was cosy and warm, inviting and peaceful enough. He could see now why his Mum used to spend so much time in the Hogwarts Library, even if his dad always made fun of her for it. Wandering along the shelves, he let his fingers drift across the spines of the books; what he was reading wasn’t even anything to do with his course, he was just reading for something to do.
It was quiet in the library this time of the year, a few of the more serious students, or the ones repeating exams, handing in delayed assignments were scattered about, but they were few and far between for the most part. Pursing his lips, he paused on a book that had a much wider spine than he was used to; a book on old Greek Mythology and how it correlated to the Magical Worlds truth. Well this could be interesting.
