PERSONALITY Flossie Fortescue is highly independent, which has a numerous positives and negatives to it. Always knowing exactly who she is and what she wants to do with her life are highly beneficial most of the time, but she also allows this to get in the way of what she should do too. Realistically, her marriage should have been more important than buying a candy store in the middle of Scotland, as a good example, or visiting her sick and dying father. But the hardheadedness she inherited from her father is simultaneously her strength and her vice in all of this. Working hard is her core belief in life. Anything she views as worth working for, she will. Obviously she doesn’t cut things she deems worthless out immediately, instead trying to find a way to maximize potential or benefits to herself. She doesn’t view this as a greedy, but could see how others might see it that way. Helping customers was a work ethic that had been drilled into her from a young age, and she continues to maintain that to this day, hoping to be as helpful and accommodating as possible. She can also be rather bad with keeping time and requires a pocketbook with all of her scheduled meetings and events to be with her at all times. While at Honeyduke’s, it can frequently be seen levitating behind her, never far out of reach and ready to scream at her if she’s late to something by more than five minutes. Without it, she can get frazzled quickly. In school, her classmates would probably remember her as a bit of a goof-off. She thought she had everything lined up and ready to go for her upon graduation, only taking a few classes seriously. With that not happening, anyone seeing her now would probably be surprised by the change in demeanor and outlook on work. ORIGIN & RELATIONS London, England/Diagon Alley Abigail Fortescue - 59-years-old, mother, Florean Fortescue Jr. - 62-years-old, father, deceased April 2026 vasilia abigail fortescue - younger sister, b.2004 felix valentin fortescue - younger brother, b.2006 Spencer O’Brien – ex-husband, MACUSA employee, b.1998, married 2021-2027 HISTORY The first-born and eldest of the Fortescue children, it seemed like young Florence had a knack for sweets from the get-go. A natural, one could even call it. Being built up from the beginning to be the successor to the ice cream parlor seemed like a no brainer to little Flossie, and helping out as best as a small child could made her feel useful. With two younger siblings coming along a few years later, the family grew exponentially. And new test subjects to her horrible ice cream concoctions. It should have been a no-brainer for her to go to school, graduate, and then return to the family run shop and take over for her father. That was what the oldest did, right? Wrong. Once she was old enough to head off to Hogwarts, she had grown her own opinions on what she wanted to do. Perfect for a budding little Gryffindor that wasn’t afraid to be outspoken about her likes and dislikes. Maybe it was a hint of rebellion. Or because she had become fascinated with candy making instead. Hogsmeade had never really been a destination for the Fortescue family, so once she discovered there was an equivalent to her family shop, she was hooked. Begging older students to buy her different candies that she had never tried back in Diagon Alley. By third year when she could go herself, she was obsessed. Practically begging the Flume family every Hogsmeade weekend to show her how certain treats were made. Her best classes ended up being Potions and Charms, a natural in both because of their associations with ice cream and candy-making. School went fast. In and out, and suddenly she realized that she needed to have a plan for post-graduation. There was the easy route: continue her training under her father and become a full-fledged ice cream artisan like him. Or there was the alternative, which was to follow her newfound passion and become a confectionary. The ensuing discussion she had with Florean was not…pretty. Calling it anything less than fiery argument would be a lie, the inflammatory words used almost enough to melt the entire stock of ice cream at the shop. So Flossie left. Packed up her bags and headed to the United States where she had already prepared to study at a muggle culinary school and to try and achieve her dream of becoming a confectioner. She figured it would be easier to learn the normal, mundane way first, and then apply her knowledge of magic on top of it after. For the most part, it worked. A couple years of schooling in New York City and a semi-repaired relationship with her father later, and he seemed to realize that she was serious about this. Fully returning to Diagon wasn’t in her plans yet, and she still didn’t know if working with ice cream was what she wanted to do. The deeper she went in culinary school and the confectionary business, the more she solidified that this was her life. Then she met Spencer. A budding employee for MACUSA, they were set up by a friend of hers near the tail-end of her schooling and quickly fell in love and were married by 2021. She may have forgotten to tell her family, caught up in the moment of it all, and didn’t break the news to them until she managed to make it back to London whilst on their honeymoon. Once again, that did not go over well with her father. He wasn’t necessarily furious about her getting married, but rather that she flaunted her independence at him. He was getting older and ready to retire. She didn’t see how her siblings couldn’t run it in her stead, as she no longer wanted any claim to it. Her new husband backed her up all along the way. From there, they returned to New York and spent the next several years there happily married. Flossie took up a job at a magical confectionary in their district there, and began her apprenticeship. Everything was relatively perfect, and while she missed Diagon Alley, this was her life now. It wasn’t until a letter arrived concerning her father’s health that she started to second-guess herself. She knew that she had forsaken her stake in the shop. That it wasn’t meant for her anymore. But that didn’t stop her from agonizing over it. And then he died in April of 2026. The last time she had seen him was during their fight years earlier. Now he was gone. The future of the shop seemed so pointless after that. Returning to England was difficult. It hadn’t been her home in almost ten years, and she was coming back for a funeral. She still refused to take over the shop, knowing that her mother and siblings would have no issues running it themselves. But something curious popped up in her radar as she was back: Honeyduke’s was for sale. The Flumes were apparently being sued into oblivion over something they called “The Choke of ‘25”, where a student accidentally inhaled an entire jawbreaker and almost died. It sucked that something so positive could come out of a horrible event, and she started to look at her finances more closely to see if she could feasibly purchase the shop. This caused a rift that she didn’t think possible: between her and Spencer. He was established in New York, climbing up the MACUSA ranks and plenty of time still to get to the tippy-top. He wasn’t wrong by saying that if they could push it off by a decade, he could get a cushy diplomat job serving at the Ministry, that way she could return to London. But that didn’t really align with her plans to run the shop. Someone else would buy it if she didn’t, and she knew the Flumes would want her to have it over some corporate candy company or Jimbo Blishwick coming in and trying to put their own spin on candy making. Plus, she was never going to have that chance in the US. So they made a tough decision. An amicable divorce because neither refused to budge. Maybe it was something that was bound to happen eventually, and looking back on it a few years removed, she realized that not everything was as perfect as she wanted it to be. It was simultaneously neither of their faults, but also sort of was, especially when it came to them ignoring the bigger picture. With the divorce finalized, Flossie returned to London and promptly scooped up the property formerly known as Honeyduke’s. Since 2027, she has brought it back to life and has started to employ both classic and new ideas with magical candy making. SITE EVENTS REACTION Being in the US for the majority of the events that occurred back home, Flossie has helplessly watched everything unfold. Obviously she could have gone back at any point, but that would have been viewed as a victory for her father. With her siblings out of school for the worst of it all, the worry there was definitely reduced. The Hag’s Fever pandemic had her on edge as well, having known her father’s health condition by that point. And obviously the destruction of Hogwarts struck a chord that she didn’t know was possible until it happened. Having purchased Honeyduke’s in the interim period while the school was being rebuilt, her plan was to reopen at the same time. WANT AD
