Settling in has taken a few weeks. Truth be told I’m not sure I’ve gotten the hang of it just yet. Tho, as bad as I feel, I feel worse for some of the teachers. I only usually get the good kids in the library. None of the rowdy ones bother darkening my door. Hogwarts has changed since I was here years ago, but there’s something nice about it still all the same. The food is still amazing!
Bit weird being back as an adult but I'm excited. A new beginning and all that, right?
Anyway, I’ll stop thinking with my stomach and go act on it as you’d say. I’ll write again soon. And I’ll be home for Christmas soon as well, I know you miss me so much.

You’ll be proud of me now Ma. I’ve finally decided to take a big boy job and accept some responsibility. A permanent librarian job has come up at Hogwarts. I wrote to the headmaster expressing interest once I heard about it through the grapevine and he remembered me and offered it to me pretty much on the spot. I can’t help but feel a bit lost. So I accepted it. I’m not sure what to expect really, but at least I’ll be with my own kind and less of the Muggle kind that frustrated me in the Trinity or Cambridge Libraries. I can use a little magic to shake things up, or rather I’ll actually be allowed to now and can do it without thinking of getting caught.
Anyway I’ll come to visit before I start

Ma! The beaches here are brilliant! I’m sorry I won’t be home for Christmas but it’s so good here. I’ll send you some pictures when my phone starts working again. I dropped it in the sea and it’s drying out at the minute. Not the most clever thing I’ve ever done but anyway.

Ah mam! This place is great. I got in by the skin of my teeth. MACUSA (the American ministry) had to help me with my Visa after I got in a pinch, but anyway. They said I'm the man for the job and they want me, otherwise I could have been deported. That wouldn't have been too great now. I’m here now helping out in a branch of the Smithsonian that deals with ancient magical artifacts. There’s been a few cursed bits that have left less than appealing effects, or else I would have written sooner, but don’t worry all the welts are healed up now and I’m grand. Don’t be fretting now. I’m going to visit Aunt Siobhan next week, I’ll send you some snaps then.

I know I was excited about this job and all Ma, but I’m not sure it’s really for me. I know it’s a research library and things are a lot slower-paced, but this is just plain boring. I know I can be a nerd about things as well but jesus they’re all so boring here. I don’t see myself sticking it out too long if I’m being honest. But I’ll stay for a bit to save up and get some money so I can fuck off traveling again I think. I’ll see how it goes. I don’t want to piss off your man who got me the job anyway.

Ma, I’m glad I was lucky to get into the summer program here. I’m learning loads and even though the Long Room is full of tourists during the day, in the evening and at night I’m allowed run amock and nose at everything. There’s some seriously old shit here. Sorry, I know you’re telling me off for cursing right now. I know you too well mam. I’ll be down to see you this weekend anyway. The great thing about being in Dublin is I can pop home every weekend and you can sort out my washing and all. It’s sooooo handy! Plus, you get to see your favourite son too! I’ll see you this weekend, I hope you’ll do a roast for me. And yes that is a hint.

I know you call me a city boy, and maybe you’re right ma, but I love a city with a beach. Traveling around South America has been really eye-opening, but it’s made me homesick as well. Christmas on a beach sounds great and all, but maybe I will take your offer up and come home for Christmas. The coziness would be lovely. You better get the turf in for the fire, and make a great big Christmas Dinner for it! Can’t wait to see you! I’ll bring you home some tequila since you love that so much! Haha!

Sure we’ve only been together for four years. She says we should be settling down or some shite, but sure I’m only starting to enjoy my life. Ah anyway, she obviously wasn’t meant for me. The London Dungeons are well cool ma. And the palace! I know you said I’d regret moving here, but I think it’s cool. And there’s work to be had in the Wizarding world here yknow? I’m yet to find it but anyway. I’m sure it won’t be long I guess. I’m going to scope out Flourish and Blotts (the wizard book shop) and see if they have any work going yet. And sure look there’s always a bit of bar work to be had somewhere, don’t be worrying about me. I have a date tonight as well with this girl called Claire. Met her last month when I came to visit Mark and was texting her. She’s keen to show me the town. Don’t be getting ideas though!

Well ma, things really are different here. I knew it would be when I took the job in the embassy but it’s a bit of craic so far anyway. Learning the different social cues and all are a bit difficult yeah, but I met this nice one, Lisa, whos helping me with it all. It’s handy because she’s actually a witch as well which is handy she’s going to bring me out at the weekend and show me the wix places to hang out and it’ll be cool to see how different things are over here

I know you said I shouldn’t piss my life away Ma, especially when you said the degree I was doing was a soft touch, but I’m using it! I’ve gotten a job as a tour guide here in Edinburgh. The place is great, full of History, yknow? Like Dublin or Cork but maybe older feeling I guess. Dripping in History with the castle and all. I’m starting work up there soon. They have all these old artifacts to get through as well. I’m going to give them a hand in cataloguing them in the evenings. Responsible of me, eh?

Ma! College is great. I miss you of course but the student house is gas craic. Not sure it would have been the same if I stayed in Cork. It’s mad different to the other place anyway, the castle that is. The Muggles are grand, but I’ll have to look into if there’s any Wix around the campus. Y'know yourself, the lads are grand but it’d be great to be around my own kind even if just sometimes we meet for a pint or whatever. Maybe there’s a secret society that meets once a week. Who knows?

Ma, I finally got it. I finally was able to transfigure my whole self into an animal. I did what felt natural and turns out the animal inside me is a red fox. Well, you always did say I was a clever fox. Even if i was a bit sly. Maybe you were right all along. You do know me best I suppose. Couldn’t have done it without Professor McGonagall though. Some woman for one woman I tell ya.
I have a big stack of forms I need to fill in to register with the ministry now, so I might have to get you to send over a few bits. A copy of my birth cert is one of them I think anyway so maybe root it out and have it ready if you can.
I’ll let you know anyway.

Well thank god that’s over with. Just finished the OWLs ma and chilling out in the library to write this. I didn’t realise it got so bloody warm in the summer in Scotland but here we are. The library is probably the coolest place in the castle at the minute. It does be the warmest and cozy with all the fires during the winter too. It’s probably my favourite place in the castle truth be told. Not that I’d admit that out loud but I like the vibe.
Anyway I’m just delighted to be finished my exam. Have the big set now at the end of seventh year, but that’s a while away. I can relax for the summer at home now and pick what subjects I’m going to drop next year. You can help me with that because I haven’t a clue. Not that you will either I guess, you didn’t go to Hogwarts, but you might make me see sense. I’ll see you tomorrow night at the train station yeah? Can’t wait, can we get a pizza for dinner, or maybe chipper? I’d murder curry chips. They don’t do them at Hogwarts or even in the village. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Ma, guess what?!
Remember I said last week I was trying out for the Quidditch team? Well I didn’t make it at the time, but it turns out one of the lads who got the Beater job (the lad that goes around hitting the big flying cannonball things away from people) has shite grades and isn’t allowed play. The captain told me I was their first choice anyway but they had to give it to the other lad first because he’s older. So they’re delighted I get to take over. I dunno if you can come see any of my matches, but I can ask. That’d be cool, wouldn’t it?

Ma, I miss you already. This school is weird. I know you said I had to go and it’ll be a great opportunity but I’m not so sure. The pictures all move and I don’t know if the wizarding world is for me. I feel stupid, but I got ‘sorted’ into the smarty pants house. Apparently, Ravenclaw is the house for smart people, but I dunno mam I feel a bit thick for it all. There’s one lad who made fun of my accent and the fact I’m a Muggleborn, but there are a few of us around actually. Maybe I’ll just stick with them for now. The people I’m sharing a dorm room with seem decent enough anyway.
My first day of actual classes wasn’t so bad. Even the people who have magic parents don’t seem to know all that much more than us Muggles. This weekend there’s a big match on where people play on flying broomsticks. That’s mad isn’t it?! Dunno if I’ll like it, but I’ll let you know how that goes anyway.
