To take me home AND SHOW ME THE SUN Teddy ran a hand over his face. One day, his beard would finally fill in and not exist as this scraggly mess—at least, that’s what his gran thought it was. She was the tidiest woman he knew, and thanks to her, Teddy was one of the few boys at Hogwarts who could easily fold his socks with a flick of his wand by his seventh year. While not overly tidy himself, he hardly lets too much of a mess form before dealing with it. But Teddy had sought change. Which, as a metamorphagus, shouldn’t have been too much of a surprise. However, he’d opted for a darker shade of blue these days for his hair.
On this latest trip, Teddy went to Latin America for the first time. The humidity was awful, but the sights and culture were absolutely amazing. His sketchbook was full of quick sketches and other drawings from his time there. And, of course, he earned his pay with the Museum and returned with a few interesting items. True to form, Teddy began making his rounds as he always did when returning home from abroad. Near the top of his list was a visit to the Potter home, his home away from home for his entire life.
Pushing open the door carefully, Teddy stuck his head inside and waited to hear any commotion. Perhaps James and Lily were torturing poor Albus again, or Lily got ahold of candy again. But it was relatively calm—something he rarely said about a home with Weasley relations in it. ”Harry?” Maybe Harry was home. He’d love to catch up with him. Finally, Teddy entered carefully, closing the door behind him. ”Hello?” There was a chance they could’ve been at The Burrow, which would’ve been Teddy’s next stop regardless. But considering it was early summer, it was just as likely there was a backyard game of quidditch in the neighborhood somewhere.

It was the summer holidays and Ginny was glad. Her family was smaller of course. Nowhere near the size of what she had grown up with the extended family sure it ab out evened out, but their home in Godric's Hollow was much smaller, less bursting at the seams than she was used to. It was always gorgeous having the kids home from school for their summer holidays. Now all three of them were at Hogwarts, James even nearly finished, in term times she found the house too quiet. Boring even, it was likely the reason she had thrown herself into work so much over the last few years, or why herself and Harry spent so much time at the pub. She adored them being home. She bounded off their energy and love the way they were bustling around, even if they did spend much less time at home these days than they used to. It was the off season in work, but things were due to ramp up again after the summer. It was difficult to take any time off these days; she had finally worked her way up to the top dog in the office after years slogging away on and off at the Daily Prophet. This upcoming season would be her first in the drivers seat and she had a lot to prove. And yet, here she was, a day off in the middle of the week. It was too bad her kids were teenagers with their own social lives and didn't care to actually do anything with her, despite her best efforts. Even her darling husband was nowhere to be found. It was late afternoon and the longer stretches of sun beams still made their way through the glass patio and crept over the kitchen floor where Salt and Pepper lounged in the heat, the wooden floor cold enough on their rotund bellies. She sighed quietly at them, still smiling as she moved to get a glass of water. She needed to talk to HARRY JAMES POTTER about the amount of treats he gave them, and put them on some sort of daily limit. She was leaning against the counter, sipping from her glass when she heard the front door open. She rose to stretch around the corner and see who it was almost immediately. Maybe one of them was back for the day. But no, it wasn't anyone she was expecting. The shock of blue hair was darker, but of course she'd recognise it anywhere. "Teddy!" beaming, she had barely set the glass on a safe bit of counter before she bounded down the hall and launched herself at him to pull him into a tight embrace "My darling boy, how are you?!" mumbling against him, she couldn't stop smiling. This was a surprise, but definitely a very pleasant one. She held onto him a little tighter than she normally would have, but loosened her grip of him eventually. It had been too long. Of course James was her oldest biological son, but Edward Lupin was different. Remus Lupin's son and Harry's Godson. He had a special place in her heart that she didn't know she had, before him and the kids. He was the one that allowed her to realise it was there. His Grandmother had done the raring for the most part, but Teddy always knew he had a place in this house; in the extended family. "It's just me today sadly. Everyone has better things to do today I guess..." standing for a moment she watched him, smiling like an idiot, plainly delighted to see him. "Sorry, Merlin, come in!" stepping back she reached for his arm and pulled him towards the kitchen, now launching into full mother hen mode. She hated how much like her mother she had become, even if she didn't fully realise it yet. But all the same, fussing over him would put her more at ease. "When did you get back? Do you want a drink? A snack?" opening the fridge she frowned as steady eyes surveyed it, her own hoodlums had mostly emptied it she was due a shop truth be told, but there was a few things that could be pulled together if he did want something. "A beer or anything even?" a mischievous grin lit up her figures as an eyebrow rose and she glanced back to him. edward remus lupin

To take me home AND SHOW ME THE SUN It took a moment for a sign of life to appear. But Teddy grinned wildly at seeing his Aunt Ginny. She helped Harry when Teddy was younger and treated him as much as she would her children. He felt the Potters were like a second family. Their presence in his life was something he was incredibly grateful for. Every time he came over to the house, a lot felt different. James was now a bit taller than Teddy, and he towered over Ginny and Lily. Hugging her back tightly. ”I’m well, how are you? Where is everyone?”
Teddy let Ginny pull him to the kitchen. It was familiar whenever Teddy visited his adopted extended family. Everyone went into a parental mode around him. ”Day before last.” He answered. The previous day, he’d spent resting and visiting with his grandmother. It was a solid rule in his book, and he ensured he did if he ever had the opportunity to visit. Plus, he wanted to show her the charmed postcard he had gotten for her little collection. One of the Cursebreakers the museum had hired to assist with artifacts helped Teddy with the enchantment—well, he’d done it entirely, and Teddy provided moral support.
”No, thank you. Gran wouldn’t let me leave without a proper meal.” In this case, a second breakfast because, since Andromeda had not witnessed Teddy’s alleged breakfast, he could not have eaten. ”A beer would be nice, thanks.” After a few years, Teddy didn’t feel as if he was sneaking alcohol anymore. Even after he’d come of age he might as well have been fourteen sneakily trying fire whiskey with Victoire. ”How’s life?”

It was a strange juxtaposition to Ginny sometimes, just how her life had turned out. Growing up in such a large family, she had always told herself she didn't want to add to this madness, that she wasn't really sure she ever wanted kids. She had never wanted to be like her own mother, a mother Hen; pecking and meddling into the lives of her children. And yet sometimes she caught herself doing the exact same thing, in mostly the exact same way of pretending to do exactly the opposite. Ginny had never been particularly maternal growing up. Other little girls often played with dolls, or played house. Ginny chose alternate routes of entertainment such as stealing her brothers brooms from the shed when they'd come home for the summer, or pretty much anything else. To add to that, a lot of people settled down quite quickly after graduating Hogwarts, starting families quickly. In particular after the War. People looked to rebuild the idea of society, and a sense of home. Ginny wasn't really one of those sorts. Sure, she had found Harry, and yet she hadn't really been in much of a hurry. They enjoyed themselves for a few years, got established in careers, in the world. Of course they had been fairly young having James in the grand scheme of things, but she was older compared to some in her year, or even years below her at school. She smiled at the young man in front of her, the one that had eventually lit that maternal spark in her. At times her mind drifted back to the times when much younger her and Harry had taken him for overnight babysitting when Andromeda had needed a break. They were barely kids themselves they had a lot of pointers from her own mother and Andromeda, but to think of them actually having kids at that age was impossible. Still, it never changed how she looked at Teddy; wanting to ensure he was just as loved as he deserved to be. Even without Tonks and Remus around anymore. With a glance around the empty house, she shrugged and gave an exasperated sigh. "Merlin knows. I'm off today so I could spend some time with the ungrateful brats and they're....well out with friends I suppose. Harry's in work, we're going to try to meet everyone in Diagon later for dinner if you want to join? I'm sure they'd love to see you.." She nodded regardless, busying herself at the fridge and pulling out two long neck bottles. Another moment rummaging for an old fashioned bottle opener as her wand lay forgotten on the counter, and eventually she handed the now open bottle to him and held her own out in a cheers motion. She paused to think for a moment "Life's....quite good actually for the moment. The kids are all doing good. There's been no fuck ups in the office for Harry. Newton in the Prophet finally retired-" her smile turned slightly more sheepish now, a quiet sense of accomplishment taking over. "I don't officially take over the title until the start of the season, but you're looking at the new Quidditch League Liaison for The Daily Prophet." her pride in her achievement obvious as she beamed, looking off into he middle distance, half thinking on what was all ahead of her. Eventually turning back to him "How about you love, are you home for long before you're off gallivanting on us again?"edward remus lupin

[googlefont="Roboto"] [googlefont="Fjalla One"] To take me home AND SHOW ME THE SUN Teddy chuckled. The Potter children were hardly children anymore. Furrowing his brow a moment, Teddy tried to remember their exact birthdays. At some point, there were so many to keep track of, but he remembered only the month. Over the years, his work had burdened his memory with other facts and an archive’s worth of magical history trivia that nobody ever asked him to share. ”Sure, I’d love to see everyone.” A family outing, just as when he was younger. While Ginny and Harry treated Teddy as one of their own, he was always acutely aware he was not. But it wasn’t some sad raincloud that followed him around, merely his self-awareness.
Maybe he would relay to the kids how he found their mother alone at home while they were off with friends, perhaps leaving them feeling a little guilty. Teddy accepted the bottle, returning the cheers motion before taking a swig. ”Oh wow, congratulations! That’s fantastic.” Teddy beamed at the news Ginny shared with him. Considering her professional playing years and then with the Prophet, it was the perfect spot for her. ”Well, I’m glad this new Prophet leadership recognizes talent. You deserve it.” The longtime Editor also retired. Teddy couldn’t remember his name, but changes like that also shifted the entire chain, often for the better.
”About another week or so, I think.” The lack of stringent deadlines in his work was just fine for Teddy. The flexibility allowed him to travel without the urgency that caused tunnel vision. Imagine going to all these places and never having a few minutes to look around. Anything of the sort would kill his spirit. The artist in his soul did not want to be held down. ”Gran still doesn’t understand why I can’t just stay at the Museum.” Teddy would always shake his head and chuckle. While he knew she was serious, she also saw Teddy happy. Or perhaps she saw her late daughter whenever Teddy intently focused on his work, walking while reading a book and nearly tripping over the couch, or the curiosity and patience of his father. ”Do you ever miss playing?” Ginny had stopped playing before James was born, but he wondered.

Her warm smile melted somewhat and she nodding, tacking on to the invitation some more information "There's a new Italian place opened just off the alley, it's meant to be delicious with more authentic pastas and stuff. But still has some of the basics for fussy arse Albus" laughing quietly at some more of her own brutal honesty surrounding her children "It's rare these days we get everyone together, but when we do, we have to at least try to keep everyone happy" With Teddy's praise, her cheeks lightened just slightly. It was more reaction than anyone else in the family had given her, other than her own mother. The children had congratulated her, but it seemed half hearted. Harry had simply commented on the fact that; at least the heavy work load would start for her when the kids were back at school so she wouldn't have to worry about them. Teddy's response seemed a lot more sincerely happy. "Thanks Ted, Hopefully it will all go ok. I have a feeling my going in to shake things up as a youngish woman is going to ruffle some feathers in the department, but like I said; we'll see." She smiled, although deep down that worry really was eating away at her. She had played of Holyhead Harpies in her younger days, the all female team and she had dominated, she was a name in the UK Quidditch world; except at the end of the day Quidditch was still very much a man's game. Things were changing of course, internationally the Australian New Zealand Quidditch alliance had set up their own all female league, and the women's teams in the US seemed to flourishing, more popular than ever. But the stuffy offices of the ministry magical games department and the Prophet were still slightly antiquated. Someday she might get out in the world, get to experience those bigger, more progressive leagues, but for now things were stable and she'd take the times as they came. She leaned back on the counter, watching him and listening as he spoke about his plans. A small nodded followed her sipping from her own long neck bottle, a quiet snort of a laugh escaped at Teddy relaying Andromeda's frustrations. She understood it of course. She wanted all of her children forever close, safe nearby. But it was something she knew she couldn't do to them, she couldn't stunt them. She wanted them out in the world, conquering it the best they could, to leave their mark wherever they went. She would never deny them that, no matter how much she worried. "She worries, that's all. Same way I do. But I also know how much happier you are doing what you're doing." shrugging, she took a small sip again "I'll just keep writing to her to reassure her as much as I can, and you just keep telling her you're okay and hopefully things will just stay okay. Some day you might just settle down, and she'll be even happier then. For now, you're young, enjoy yourself"His question had caught her off guard; she had squared away all talk of Quidditch for now, and drawn a line under it. Her playing days were behind her since she had James. She laughed sometimes, looking back on it all. The fights she had had with Molly & Harry who both thought she shouldn't have been on a broom at all. Her Healer had stood up for her at least; saying that so long as her body was used to it it made sense to keep up all physically activity. that was until they had to pry her broom from her hands when she was 38 weeks gone and her hands were too swollen and uncomfortable to grip the handle properly. That was the only time she admit defeat. James had been born four days later. Of course she had flown since then, but giving up playing was different. Being out of the loop of the league had been torture. She'd been part of it as a reporter on it all, even in the early days after her maternity leave she'd come back as a coach on a casual basis; but being on the other side was a different beast all together. It gave none of the thrill. She had tried to go back between pregnancies, even after, but she was never as fit as she had once been, never as able. Nobody had ever asked her about giving up what she loved. Thinking on it, her smile shrunk somewhat, but became more wistful. "Every day" Her honesty surprised even herself. Nobody had ever asked, so she'd never had to admit it. "I couldn't go back though, even if I wanted to. I'm not as young as I was, my body took enough of a beating; playing throughout the years, and the three pregnancies. It gave me such a thrill. To play. To win." a smirk crossed her face at that, but it faded just as quickly. "My reasons for giving up are worth it though. I've the kids, my life outside the pitch. Plus I had to give the younger lot a chance I guess." her tone was jaunty, trying to cover up the sadness but there was a hollow edge to it. "Youth is wasted on the young Teddy, enjoy it. Someday you'll be old and decrepit like me" She laughed, but again there was no real joy to it. With that she lifted the bottle to her mouth again and drained the dregs, pausing for only a second to wonder if she should have another. edward remus lupin
