we're afraid of the dark
but we're in love with the night

Addy finished reading something on her phone, scrolling a bit further before switching back to her Daily Prophet mobile application. While she preferred the physical paper, she didn’t have one on hand. Her brow furrowed at yet another headline regarding HOWL. It was an illogical step in Addy’s mind. Even though she had forgone a career in the Ministry, it did not mean she wished to remain ignorant of the actions of their Ministry. And while she did not personally know any werewolves, Addy was sure they were around as safe and productive members of society.
But these were merely her thoughts and opinions. It was not her battle or crusade, but Addy paid enough attention in History of Magic to recognize when pieces of history began to repeat themselves. Mentally, she made a note to ask Cheese what he’d heard at the Prophet. It had taken most of the week for their schedules to align. He’d picked up more hours. Their respective careers kept them busy, and things had gone much smoother once they’d stopped fighting the inevitable magnetic pull. After their spat in the spring where Cheese’s real feelings had escaped from being bottled up so long—things had been smooth sailing.
Not that they were dating, Addy reminded herself. They knew that. Just two longtime best friends in proximity to one another with stressful careers who could comfortably and reliably blow off some steam through a physical relationship. Benefits. That was all. It made perfect sense. It was later in the evening. Addy felt tired from practice earlier in the day, which was not strange, but she had stayed out a little later than intended the night before. Jack returning to town felt like unexpected turbulence but the kind that made your stomach flip from the adrenaline rush. She switched to the previous app on her phone, reading more about the Highlands and drinking more from her pint. Even though Jack would be her guide, it didn’t mean she would not prepare. Her time off was fast approaching.
