Hello there, my name is Declan Fairburn but you can call me Deck. I'm twenty-nine so that makes me a alumniyear at Hogwarts, where I reside in Gryffindor house. You could say I'm brave, daring, & chivalrous but I personally think that I am quiet, determined, & kind. People say I look a lot like Theo James, but I don't really see it...

overall personality:
As a professional Quidditch player, I am known by many witches and wizards in the wizarding world. I've never let this get to my head, however. I've been told I am too modest for my own good. I don't like to think that I deserve everything handed to me just because I play Quidditch professionally, if that makes sense. I still like to earn things, just like anyone else would. When it comes to fame, I can be a little bit shy but I will always do something for a fan. I'm thankful for the life I live, but I do not take it for granted. I've seen too many people fail when they begin to act too conceited, like everything should be handed to them. That is not what I want to do. I want my life to flourish, to be full. I often find myself volunteering for community work or shelters for that reason. I like to help people.
I am a very determined human being. If I see something I want, I work and do all that I can to earn it. I will go to any length within my reach to do so. But I am careful to never get cocky. That is when one often makes mistakes, and as mentioned, I don't plan on making any mistakes. I don't consider myself a perfectionist in any sense of the word, but I like to do things a particular way. I think it's human to not want to make any mistakes. I just try harder than I probably should sometimes. But I always make sure to keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds.
Everything always comes back to kindness. I have had fans mention how "nice" I am or how I'm "so down to Earth." Well, of course I am; I'm only human. I want to make others happy, whether that be in my profession or by giving something without taking. I strive to be kind and help others. Now, that isn't to say I don't have a mean streak. I will often get frustrated with myself if things aren't going exactly as planned, like in a match for example. I also cannot stand when people cheat or if they are sore losers who believe the only way to justify their losing is by throwing a fist or jinx. Those people are always the ones who see my unkind side. But that, too, is something I often try to conceal. I don't like to focus on negative energy.

personal history
mother:
Zafrina Fairburn, fifty-seven, muggle archaeologist & explorer
father:
Alistair Fairburn, fifty-nine when deceased
siblings:
none
pets:
A gray ferret named Artemis
history:
Mr. and Mrs. Fairburn met on not so average terms - he was a dragonologist, a wizard in Bulgaria studying the creatures; she was a muggle explorer and archaeologist who had grown up in Athens, Greece with her family. The two were born adventurous and spontaneous, so when they both met in Bulgaria, they clicked fairly well. Zafrina had stumbled upon Alistair working with the dragons and couldn't believe her eyes... one would say her memory should have been modified but Alistair was stunned by the woman's beauty and refused to do such a thing to her. Instead, he introduced himself and took her by the hand, showing her the dragons. Zafrina's life from then on had changed. The two traveled together. Zafrina doing what she loved by exploring ancient runes and Alistair followed her, searching for dragons along the way. In their travels it was then that Alistair had admitted to Zafrina that he was a wizard, and she didn't live in the world she thought she did.
During their travels Zafrina and Alistair both learned many new things. Alistair had come from a long line of purebloods, so the muggleborn Greek Zafrina had many things to teach him. Along the way, they fell in love. The two married in Egypt some years later and within a few months welcomed a child. They named him Declan and all was right in the world. The family retired to Britain for a while to raise Declan and Alistair's family had a large part in that. They all welcomed Zafrina with open arms, all very interested to learn about her muggle ways but life wasn't perfect for long.
When Declan was four, an evil was rising in Britain and Alistair was forced to tell Zafrina about the dark side of his world. People were dying all over Britain, his family being what they were, were in danger. Zafrina feared for Declan's life and by the time the Dark Lord Voldemort finally rose back to power in 1998, Zafrina had already fled with Declan to Ukraine. She had not left word with Alistair, for she felt in her heart that he would choose to stay with his family and protect them. But Zafrina had her own duty to her son, for she had no immediate family: only aunts and uncles, and they were perfectly safe in their own muggle world in Greece. So Zafrina raised Declan on her own, traveling around Europe as a single mother with a child on her back.
Declan grew up very immersed in all sorts of cultures. His mother homeschooled him, teaching him basic history, vocabulary, math, etc. She also taught him the language of Greek so he could connect to his roots, and French and German, for those were languages his mother knew well and would come in handy in their travels. His young childhood was spent in Ukraine. Zafrina had wanted to stay there until she was sure that whatever was going on in Britain was over. When Declan was eight, they moved to Germany briefly while his mother looked for work at a museum then they were off to France. It was here that things began to change for Declan.
One day, while waiting outside an office for his mother, Declan saw some strange people in darkly colored cloaks. They didn't look mean or cruel by any means, but their looks were enough to capture the attention of any onlooker. He could have swore he saw one pull out a stick and point it at a bouquet of flowers at a stand and the flowers floated over to one of the other odd individuals. Declan's eyes widened in wonder as he watched, and he instantly wished he could do something like that. He spent the rest of the time waiting for his mom staring at the stand of flowers, as if willing a bouquet to fly across the street to himself. When his mother returned, she was just in time to see it for herself. A small bouquet of flowers had floated right over to Declan and he held out his hands as it dropped into them. He then looked up at his mother and smiled, handing her the bouquet. Almost instantly, Zafrina knew what this meant.
Zafrina wasn't scared or angry, if anything she was overjoyed. The fact that her son was more than likely a wizard only reminded her of her husband, who she missed dearly every day. She wished for him to be there with them and wondered why he had not tried to find them...
When Declan was eleven, he and his mother were in Greece visiting family when they received an odd letter. The letter. Zafrina took it upon herself to explain to her son that this was his destiny; his father, wherever he was, was also a wizard. Declan was confused at first, but then he realized that the people he had seen back in France had been wizards... and suddenly Declan wanted nothing more than to attend this school and learn everything he could about the wizarding world, about his father. Declan and Zafrina traveled to Britain so that they could seek out Alistair themselves and inform him of the news before Declan had to board the train but upon returning to his family's old house, they found only Alistair's mother and sister. Upon seeing them, Alistair's mother broke into hysterics. Declan could not tell if she was happy or sad to see them. The next thing that Declan can remember is his mother also crying and that was when Declan knew that he would never get to meet his father.
Declan's grandmother sat them down and informed them all about the Wizarding War of 1998. Alistair and his father had assisted in a rescue or raid of some sort and they had never returned. She explained that after two years they stopped hoping. Declan knew then that he would do everything in his power to make his father happy. Declan began to ask questions about the school he was about to go to. Where did his father belong, what were his hobbies, things like that. He wanted to do everything his father would have told him to do. And so he did.
When Declan arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he was sorted into the house of bravery like his father before him: a Gryffindor. He took a liking to the subjects of History of Magic, Astronomy, and Care of Magical Creatures (when the creatures weren't big and dangerous,) and then in his second year he got on a broom. Alistair had not made much of his Quidditch career, but the second that Declan got on a broom he knew that this was his destiny. Everything wrong in the world seemed to disappear whenever he got on a broom, it all just felt right. Declan began to read into Quidditch, studying it and the positions and rules of it all. He decided that he wanted to try out for the role of Keeper. He waited until his third year to do so. Unfortunately, he didn't make Keeper his first time trying out, but instead got the position of Chaser because of his speed. However his heart was still set on the position of Keeper so he continued to try out for that every year. His fifth year was when he finally got it and continued to have it until he graduated. His seventh year he was also promoted to team captain and it was then that he knew that he wanted to be a Quidditch player one day.
When Declan graduated, he did some work with the Prophet for extra money on the side, working under the Quidditch correspondent as a photographer until he could make it as a professional player. Declan really wanted to play for Puddlemere United so he tried out for that team. They were impressed by his resume and more so by his Quidditch skills, but for the time being he was placed on the reserve team. He got to fill in a few times for Chasers when they were out of the game but never for the Keeper, who managed to always stay on his A-game. Declan continued working for the Prophet until finally, he was awarded a position on the team as Keeper when the old Keeper transferred to the National team. Declan was overjoyed, but no one was more happy than his mum. She came to every game, and eventually she finally got a hang of the terms and slang and ended up cheering along with the witches and wizards.
Declan continues to play for Puddlemere United and this is his second year as team captain. There isn't anything Declan loves more than Quidditch, except maybe for his mum.
