The sun had gone down which meant that Marcia was wide awake. She didn't mean to be such a night owl, but she had spent so many nights waiting up for her parents add a child that she just wasn't used to going to bed early. Of course, she had many years to adjust this skiwompus sleeping pattern but she had never really made the effort. She liked the night time. She liked the solitude it brought to the common room and the way the world seemed to freeze. She could easily feel as though she was the only person on earth at times like this, and that could often be a nice feeling.
She slipped into the common room, not paying attention to the time, and found her way to one of the couches off to the side of the room. She laid down, draping her legs over an arm of the couch while resting her head on the cushions. She pulled out her wand and started writing words in the air above her using little strands of light. It wasn't anything coherent, just nonsense really. Maybe even a little poetry like sentences, but she wouldn't call it that.
Here in the dark, in the middle of the night, it was easy to let your mind wander. It was easy to lose sight of were you where and what the rest of the week entailed. Yup, it was easy to forget about the murders and responsibility. Marcia who? No, she was just a nameless being right now, drifting away.

Every now and then a case of sleeplessness would hit Nefertiti like a ton of bricks and she would lay awake in her bed at night staring at the ceiling, listening to the sound of her dorm mates snoozing. It was mostly during this time that Nef would think about her sexuality. Never anything perverted, but more of if she really was what she thought she was. From a young age Nef had been attracted to girls. She had just never felt the same about boys. Of course she had to fake this for everyone around her though. She wasn't ready to tell anyone that she was gay. Hell she couldn't even admit it to herself! She was always still chasing the likes of the pureblood Slytherins in the common room hoping it would convince her otherwise. She just couldn't tell anyone much less her parents. What would they think? They had never made that quite clear, but they were a very traditional family and it wouldn't surprise Nefertiti if they disowned her because of her sexuality.
Sleeping in a room full of girls wasn't hard. Nefertiti didn't find herself attracted to any of the Slytherin seventh years. Elaine was just as cold as she was, Marcia was... kind of a prude to be honest, and the others? Nef didn't really think much of them. She sighed quietly to herself and rolled over to face the wall on the other side of her bed when she heard someone rustling their own blankets. Someone was awake. After a moment, Nefertiti heard them get up and exit the dormitory. She thought for a moment about just ignoring them but in this particular moment... Nefertiti was feeling lonely. The company of any person would do.
So Nef got up out of bed and headed out to the common room. She wasn't sure which dorm mate it would be but she didn't necessarily hate any of them so she supposed she didn't care who it was. The common room was dark as per usual for this time of night except for the person sitting on the couch writing out nonsensical words with their wand. With her arms across her chest, Nefertiti approached and sat in an armchair next to the couch they were sitting in. She sat in silence there for a moment and glanced at the person with the wand. From the light illuminating from their wand Nefertiti recognized the person as Marcia Sagebrush. Nefertiti let out another quiet sigh. "What are you doing?" She finally asked, trying to sound as uninterested as possible.

Marcia didn't waver when someone walked in and sat on the armchair beside her. She barely even noticed, in fact, for she was too wrapped up in herself at the moment. Finally, the person spoke and Marcia lowered her wand, keeping the tip alight. It was Nefertiti, a fellow seventh year. Marcia gave her a small nod. "Just being bored, really. What brings you down?" she also feigned disinterest, turning her attention back to the ceiling. She didn't continue writing words, but worked on shapes instead this time. Just random designs that really didn't mean anything. Marcia rarely could sleep, which was why it was nice to have a vampire as a boyfri-
Woah, woah, woah. She wasn't anybodies girlfriend. Yet.
At that thought her mind switched back to Nefertiti. She barely knew anything about her fellow Slytherins life. She knew that she was raised in a similar household that Marcia was, at least in the terms of pureblood and heavy dark influences. Nefertiti seemed a bit more accepting of it all though... but really, what did Marcia know about any of that?

Nefertiti watched as Marcia halted with the spelling and began tracing shapes with her wand instead. She thought for a moment about what an interesting way to spend your Borden that was. Nef preferred doing anything that didn't require work when she was bored. Usually if she was bored, she had exhausted herself with enough work already so why do more by focusing on even a charm as simple as the one Marcia seemed to be using. "Couldn't sleep," she shrugged nonchalantly. She began to fixate her eyes on the shapes Marcia was creating above them, distracted for a moment.
Something had to have brought Marcia down here. "What's keeping you up?" SHE asked.

Marcia nodded, "about the same. I don't usually start sleeping until after two am," she said with a little sigh. She pulled her wand down, discontinuing the marks on the ceiling. She turned toward her fellow seventh year. "Usually I sneak out and explore but... things are a bit sketchy now," she chuckled, even though it was entirely true. What with students being murdered left and right and darkness brewing daily. Marcia had dealt with plenty of darkness, of course, but this was a whole different situation. Now she was older, an adult even and she could help this time. Much more than she could as a child...
