268 TEA TIME
so lie to me and tell me we'll make it through the night Clara had just finished sending off the remaining pygmy puff crates on a wagon when Gatsby took the pleasure of running off to the castle to find one of his favorite pals. Although Clara didn't pick favorites, Gatsby. her beloved canine companion did. He was crazy for three students currently - Alice Longbottom, Elodie Wood, and James Potter. Sometimes he would return with one of his pals.
Once Gatsby was nowhere to be found, Clara set up the kettle and started to boil water. "Chamomile should do today," Clara said to herself as she went through her cabinet full of loose leaf tea. She prepared two cups and Gatsby's bowl of food.
As if on cue, the bell above the door rung indicating Gatsby had returned. he barked to tell his master of his success. "Glad he found someone. Wouldn't want him to be a sad puppy for the rest of the day. Go ahead and grab a seat by the table. I prepared chamomile today. I sure need to relax after dealing with the extra puffs." The blonde grabbed the bowl of dog food and put it down as Gatsby barked in gratitude and started to eat. She reached for the kettle, filled the two cups with hot, boiling water, and brought them to the table. "Speaking of, how is yours? What was the name of yours? Spook, right? I hope you haven't accidentally killed your puff yet." There were so many students and puffs to keep track of, but she was familiar with a few of the students who were more or less excited for the assignment.

elodie adored it when a certain little dog came to visit her. this was for a number of reasons, the first being that she was a massive dog person and whenever one appeared in her vicinity her voice promptly went up two octaves and her vocabulary was sufficiently shortened to pet names. the second reason was for the woman he belonged to: professor clara bates. it was only natural that the student and teacher got along so well, they were both gryffindor (though miss bates had graduated, clearly) and they both loved animals. and if that wasn’t a good enough foundation for a friendship, elodie didn’t know what was. she had been in the courtyards observing her pygmy puff in an outside environment when the corgi, gatsby, bounded over to her. spook, her puff, rolled backwards in fright at the sight of the creature, who had turned its attention into trying to catch its scent. ”hullo, gatsby,” elodie cooed, crouching down to give the dog a good scratch behind the ears. she knew what this meant – professor bates was requesting a visit. elodie smiled sheepishly. she made better tea than house elves. she quickly scratched the observation that pygmy puffs were apparently afraid of dogs into her notepad, tucked it into her robes and scooped scoop up into her hand, and followed gatsby who was early trotting at an upbeat pace down to the care of magical creatures hut. she rang the doorbell, which was almost instantly opened by her friend and professor. elodie greeted her with a beam. ”this dog clearly knows who your favourite student is.” she said, entering the small but cozy hut. she smelled the brewing tea in the air, and smiled, simultaneously rolling her eyes and mock groaning. ”chamomile, professor!? as if i’m not tired enough – i was up at seven this morning thanks to this bundle of joy.” she brandished the hand holding spook, who now appeared to be sleeping calmly. ”as you can see, spook is still alive. though he nearly smothered me to death this morning.” then, an idea sparked in her mind. ”by the way, professor – it’s killing me. how do you know whether one of these things is a boy or a girl!?”tagged: clara! words: 373 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

258 woo puff talk
so lie to me and tell me we'll make it through the night Clara enjoyed seeing her students off-class hours. She remembered working closely with Hagrid when she herself was still a student. Gatsby picked his favorites and majority of the time, Clara could agree that they were hers. The student he picked today was one that she saw herself in - Elodie Wood, Gryffindor, loves animals, and a pleasure to have in class. "Elodie, my dear, sorry if he may have interrupted your studies. You know this dog, he picks the favorites." She took the tea leaves out of both cups and pushed a cup full of sugar in front of Elodie. "But I do approve of his choices."
"Tell me about Spook. It seems happy to have you as an owner. All the extra puffs are still rowdy outside the hut if you heard them on the wagon. They're like a newborn." This assignment was definitely showing it's success. The students who cared enough for their puffs would be rewarded with a well-behaved puff, while some puffs would fear their owners and act against them. "New Headline: Student Killed by Pygmy Puff. Now that is Daily Prophet material," she joked, but then realized how inappropriate that was with the news of the muggleborn student, "Sorry, that was highly inappropriate of me."
Clara raised an eyebrow at the Gryffindor. "Oh right, I never did mention it in class. Well they're hermaphrodite kind of like snails." Gatsby hopped onto the couch by the fire place, taking a well needed rest after running through the grounds to find one of his favorite humans.

elodie grinned as professor bates practically admitted that she was one of her favourite students. not that she had much of a doubt – the pair had been hanging out practically since elodie’s first year. the care of magical creatures professor certainly had excellent taste in students. she laughed at the professor’s joke about the daily prophet headline. then, the laughter stopped abruptly. there was a weird feeling in the air, which always seemed to pervade the atmosphere when the death of the student earlier in the ear was brought up. elodie bit her lip and looked away. she didn’t mind the joke, but it was just strange putting it into perspective. however, this faded away as professor bates explained the nature of pygmy puff breeding. all this effort of trying to find out how on earth they made babies was going to become clear. all the puzzle pieces fit into place. ”oooh. that makes a lot more sense!” she eyed her puff, placing him on the table in front so it could roam around and stretch its legs, which were hardly existent under all of that fuzz. ”i’m glad i gave it a unisex name though. it’d be a bit awkward if i called it john.” the gryffindor joked. she added a teaspoon of sugar to her tea and stirred, then took a gentle sip. her eyes closed gently. she definitely needed this. the stress over pygmy homework as well as every other class seemed to seep into her, absorbing it, and releasing it in one outward breath. ”what about you, professor? any gossip on your end?” elodie asked, in a not so subtle way of changing the conversation to her favourite topic: hogwarts goss. tagged: CLARA! words: 285 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

268 gossip girl here xoxo
so lie to me and tell me we'll make it through the night Clara's whole assignment wasn't explained fully for one reason, observation. The students had to figure everything out on their own. The real world won't just hand them the answers right away, they had to earn them. With the recent events, Clara's lessons plans were changed abruptly to fit what could happen this year at Hogwarts.
"Ginny, James' mother had one and named it Arnold, if I recall. It's up to the owner if they want to decide if its a he or a she." The blonde noted. She took a spoonful of sugar and stirred it in her tea cup. Her eyes watched the orange pygmy puffs explore the new location. "I'd watch it if you want to breed it. Some of them came from the same parents. Last thing Hogwarts needs is a pet ban." Clara took the spoon and dipped it in the sugar cup. She took it out, the spoon being half full, and put it in front of her student's pet. "These little fellas will eat just about anything."
Clara took a sip of her tea and trained her eyes back on her student. "Gossip? Hm, well, the only thing I have found out was Professor Eielson has a dog. You would think I would have known that. Gatsby didn't seem to care much. Little guy still believes he's the top dog around here." She heard a growl from her half-asleep corgi by the fireplace. "But if you're wondering about the latest faculty dating each other, nope nothing." She turned her attention back to the puff, immediately avoiding her student's eyes about the subject.

elodie laughed at the teacher’s comment on breeding the pygmy puffs. ”like i would even attempt to breed them! it’s embarrassing to admit, but for a pygmy puff, it’s been quite a stress handling spook.” she said, a small smile on her face, looking down into her teacup. she always had to keep an eye on her new pet, just in case he was about to topple off a desk or something worse, and she was always fussing if he had eaten or not. because of this, spook was fairly larger than the average pygmy puff, as she fed it more often than was probably recommended. she had just never had a pet before, and wanted to be good at it. but she was discovering that being a helicopter pet owner – always hovering over spook - possibly wasn’t the best solution for keeping him healthy. ”i don’t think i ever want to be a mum.” she mused, more to herself than the professor. a pygmy puff was scary enough, let alone a magic baby. elodie laughed at the news of another dog on premises. ”i never knew! do you know the breed?” she shifted her attention to the corgi. ”poor gatsby! having to share the spotlight with another dog.” she mock pouted. she thought about what was happening in her school life that she could share with the professor when she suddenly remembered something that was a bit interesting, as it involved another of the professor’s favourite students, james potter. ”ooh, by the way, rumour has it that james has a crush. like, an actual crush!” she rolled her eyes, the familiar pang of jealousy hitting her when james turned his attention onto targeting another girl. although elodie’s relationship with james was only friendly now – with the exception of being flirting buddies – she didn’t like other girls getting more attention. ”poor girl. she’s some ravenclaw, in a lot of my classes but obviously has poor taste, not picking care of magical creatures and all.” she winked at her favourite professor, grinning. tagged: claaahra! words: 341 outfit: ( link) notes: qu33n of Hogwarts goss |

332 forgot she has a puff
so lie to me and tell me we'll make it through the night Clara smiled as she watched the pygmy puff. "Pets aren't easy. Gatsby is a handful as well as the other creatures around here." A chirping noise could be heard from the top of the fireplace. "Nutty's awake," she stood up and reached over the fireplace to grab a barely awake light blue pygmy puff. She placed her puff on the table. "He's been with me for a while. Back when I was a student, actually. Kind of crazy he's still around." Clara watched as the blue puff rolled over to the orange puff, chirping at it excitedly.
"It's quite funny you mention parenting," the blonde pointed out, "I thought the same thing when I got Nutty. Poor guy ate my potions notebook. And that's how I didn't become Hogwarts' next potions master," Clara joked to the young Gryffindor. "Elodie, children are like animals. I may not be a parent to a human child, but I am damn well a parent to Gatsby and Nutty, and some other creatures we won't dwell into." She winked at her student.
Clara sat back into her chair, "She was a white husky if I remember correctly. Beautiful and so much more playful than Gatsby. She's well-behaved too." if it wasn't for her love of corgis, a husky would have been second on her list for dogs to get. For Clara, it was nice to have another dog lover on the grounds, and better yet with a dog. Gatsby whined at the mention of his name. "He's gonna have to remember that he's smaller than that dog too."
Gossip around the campus was nothing new. She remembered being into it when she was a student. Hearing gossip about one of her favorites was certainly not new. "Aw, James? That kid is something." She could tell Elodie was bothered about the news, but refused to point it out. "Hey her loss, right? She won't get a longtime companion like Spook or Nutty." She smirked at the two puffs.

the young gryffindor girl’s eyes looked from gatsby, to professor bates, then back again, then back to the professor, mouth agape in mock outrage. ”a handful!? professor, surely not gatsby!” she then grinned, knowing full well what sorts of mess the little corgi could get himself into. her ears picked up a meek chirping sound, which was instantly received and replied to by spook, who chirped back. elodie, who had not heard her puff make a noise before, was quite surprised by this new information. the professor introduced her to her own pygmy puff, nutty, and set him down next to spook, and the two rolled around together playfully. ”oh, how sweet,” elodie said quietly and absentmindedly, looking lazily at the two with a smile. she laughed at the professor’s joke about potions – elodie wasn’t wild about potions herself, but she didn’t have an excuse like that. ”please tell me you told the teacher that a pygmy puff ate your homework.” she retorted, giggling. elodie pictured the white husky in her mind. ”must have looked quite like a wolf. god, imagine having a wolf for a pet.” she gasped. then again, she had heard of a lot more dangerous, more magical animals that had been tamed into domestication. it was weird thinking of a kelpie living around the house. she looked again to the pygmy puffs, which was just as well as they were both teetering over the edge of the table. nudging them softly so they wouldn’t fall off, she turned back to the professor. ”weird thinking that something so little has such a long lifespan. are they all like that, professor?” she asked. ”then again, i suppose it depends on how you treat it, just like humans…” she mused, looking out of the hut window absentmindedly, drinking deeply from her tea. she felt her shoulders loosen. finally, relaxation… tagged: clara! words: 310 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |
