the sun had barely come up across the snow covered mountain that was sitting right outside the window of the cabin his family and .. well his other family were residing in on their holiday. he had dragged himself out of bed a few moments ago, much to the dismay of his body that would give anything to curl up in the warmth of his bed again and sleep till the sun was high in the sky but there was no way he could resist that mountain. he wanted to get an early start on snowboarding down it. he grabbed his shoes and tried to sneak downstairs without making any noise but it was hard, he didn't know the house and the floor was all wooden so there were creaks that he couldn't avoid. once downstairs he set his boots at the door and moved to the fridge, grabbed the juice and poured himself out a glass. there were other people in the house so he didn't dare sneak it from the jug. downing the juice he pulled some bread from the bag and ate it quickly, pretty sure it was from the bag he was allowed to eat, well he hoped he was sure as he moved to the front door of the cabin. pulling on his the boots he had to wear for the snowboard was a risk inside because of the noise they made on the wooden floor but there was no way he was stepping outside in the snow without them on. he'd made it. no one had woken, there were no voices from upstairs and he was almost out of the door. he relaxed slightly as he reached to grab his snowboard from it's spot against the wall when he suddenly felt it slip from his fingers and fall down into the snowboards and ski's resting on the wall next to it. "no .. stay .. nooo" he said as he jumped across to them, the shoes clunking on the floor as he tried to stop them all from falling and he failed his shoes slipping on the wood and himself falling backward to land on his butt on the floor with the ski's and snowboards falling around him with a crash. "wonderful .. " he said with a sigh as he resigned to his fate and flopped back against the wooden floor and waited for the onslaught of parents to come down the stairs.

Leslie was ecstatic about the trip, of course! Her best friend, her cute husband and her kids all together? What else could she asked for?! It was going to be… wait for it… legendary. They were going to do some fun in the snow today and Leslie caught up to Isaac at the door seeming to cause a domino effect to some ski’s and snowboards she moved forward quickly but didn’t manage to catch him as he fell backward. ”Hey, you! That went well,” she chuckled, bending down to brush a hand across the hair on his forehead as he lay there, defeated it seemed. ”It’s all right, those things are pretty sturdy!” she glanced about quickly to assure that there was no one around before pulling out her wand and correcting the ski’s and snowboards. She stashed it away again and reached down to offer a hand to Isaac. ”Let’s try that again, shall we?” she looked up and saw her husband, Ben, approaching them as well with his eyebrow raised in confusion. ”Did you knock him down, Leslie? That’s one way to teach your kids a lesson I guess…” Ben muttered. Joking, of course. Hermione was so excited; she and Leslie had started to plant the seeds of a multi-family vacation in Ron and Ben's head since the school year had started – in March they had finally agreed. A full two weeks in New Zealand, just the nine of them! It had taken some persuading on some of the children to spend part of their summer holiday in the cold and snow, but they had won out in the end.
She was awoken on their second day by a loud crash. She sat right up and looked over at Ron, who was still asleep. She couldn't help but smile to herself; he could certainly sleep through anything. Moving slowly as to not wake him, she slid her feet into her fuzzy slippers and walked out of the room, tying the ties of her bathrobe as she padded down the stairs. She saw Isaac and Leslie with Ben at the bottom of the stairs, Isaac surrounded by fallen skis and snowboards. She stifled a chuckle as she bent down to help them pick up the skis. “Morning all, a little eager to start the day eh?” she asked. She noticed her children weren't up yet either. Savoring the moment, she went into the kitchen and made herself a steaming cup of coffee. She inhaled the smell and took a sip, sighing softly. She wasn't the greatest skier in the world, so she figured she'd hit the slopes for an hour tops then come back here, make a fire and cozy up with a good book.

Xan loved sunrises in the winter. The snow provided a clean slate for the sun to color, and for a few precious minutes, the earth and the sky were the same – pink and orange and purple. The sunrise always came, and Xan appreciated that. She meant to wake up early that day to see night turn into day, but when the Ravenclaw finally managed to rouse herself from slumber, there was a faint ray of early morning sun peeking through the window. She had missed the best part. Xan was left feeling slightly confused as to how she had managed to wake up; there was sunlight, yes, but not bright enough to stop her slumber. After a moment of pondering, Xan slowly got out of her bed, throwing back the covers and padding towards the door. She heard footsteps, and finally drew the conclusion that something jolting must have happened, like a loud noise.
Creeping down the stairs after the adults, Xan couldn’t help but giggle when she saw her brother buried in a mess of skis and snowboards. Typical Zac. “Good morning.” Xan finally said to announce her presence. “That was quite something to wake up to, right?” She grinned at her brother and tried her best not to look like she was teasing him, even though she kind of was. He’d get over it.

Rose had awoken when she heard a faint crashing that sounded like it came from downstairs. Anywhere else she would have been frightened if she woke up to such noises, but when staying with the Meagles, it was simply the norm. Since it sounded like people were now awake, Rose got up out of bed and glanced around. She was sharing a room with Winnifred and Xanthippe and it seemed the latter was already up and out of bed. Quietly so as to not wake Winnie yet, Rose exited the room and headed down the the chaos that was unfolding downstairs.
A small smile appeared on her face as she took in the sight of her family. Though the Meagles weren't blood, they were as good as. Rose appeared next to Xan and folded her arms across her chest. "I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was still asleep before all that," she said, raising an eyebrow at Isaac and teasing him along with Xanthippe. Rose let out a small chuckle as she walked past Isaac, greeting him with a touch on the shoulder. "Morning, Leslie, Ben," she smiled at them and then headed into the kitchen where she found her mother already with a cup of coffee in hand. "Morning, Mum."
It hadn't taken much to convince Rose to want to go to New Zealand for holiday, as it was far from England and that meant far from one particular Slytherin boy. That meant she had plenty of time to relax and have time to think, which is exactly what she needed. Having taken a lot after her mother, Rose was not at all coordinated on the slopes and was going to be avoiding them at all costs. Unless, of course, Hugo and Isaac somehow convinced her to tread out into the snow with them.

he'd heard the crash but it hadn't been enough to stir him from his slumber, not even hermione getting out of the bed was enough that morning. it wasn't often that he got to sleep in nowadays, with work and having to keep an eye on victoire. which he didn't mind of course, she was his niece and he loved her but there were some days a person needed to sleep in. he didn't know how long he had managed to fall back to sleep but more footsteps roused him from his sleep and he let out a groan. well that was the end of that. not that he minded really but the lay in would have nice. he got up and pulled on a sweater, rubbing his hands up and down his arms before padding out into the hall in his bare feet. he moved down the stairs in time to see isaac laying flat on his back with ski's being picked up around him. he chuckled and shook his head. "you're supposed to fall once you're on them" he said as he crossed to the kitchen to pour out a cup of coffee. he might be british but he could enjoy a good cup of roasted when the morning was right. he moved to kiss his wife on the cheek. "morning love" he said as he sipped the hot dark liquid from the cup. "rosie" he said as he reached out to touch his daughter's hair, clearly hugo hadn't roused from his sleep yet otherwise he'd be down here wondering what the fuss was about.

Winnie was the last to wake up. Yes, the crash from below did rouse the girl, but she just grumbled loudly and rolled over, pulling the pillow over her head. She wasn't a morning person. At all. It wasn't that surprising though. Groggy, and now grumpy, the sound of Xan and Rose leaving the room was enough to finally convince the girl that sleep was no longer and option. Stumbling from her bed, she didn't bother slipping on a robe to cover her pajamas (if you could call them that. It was one of her father's old shirts, easily reaching her mid thighs.), or slippers to cover her bare feet as she slowly followed the sound of voices. Soon she came upon the entire 'troupe', except Hugo. See! He had the right idea! Stay in bed until.... at least nine. Eleven was better though.
When she saw what had happened though? Winnie started laughing hysterically. Isaac was still sprawled out on his back, not having bothered to get up yet. The noise must have been her brother knocking over the skis. Speaking of, that was not an activity she was looking forward to. "Morning!" She finally managed to say after 'composing' herself, though she was never composed. She quickly moved to her parents to quickly hug them, but then was following Ron into the kitchen, because she knew what he was after. Se was a caffeine-a-holic. "I want one too!" she announced quite loudly as she went about making the coffee. Soon, with her own mug in hand, she followed him back into the other room this time moving to her brother and plopping down right by his head, leaning over him to stare at him, not caring that her hair was now in his face. "How long are you planning on playing dead?"

he looked up at his mother as she leaned down to brush back the hair on his forehead and he let a sheepish grin slide onto his face. he shrugged a little while he listened to his father's comment. "she's a tough one hey dad" the ski's were temperamental things but he hadn't thought they'd fall like that. so loudly anyway. it wasn't long before they were joined by people adding in their own two cents and isaac simply rolled his eyes at them all, still laying spread out on the floor. it was oddly comfortable. he stretched his arms above his head as he heard his sister sit down next to him and he grinned up at her, blowing her hair from his face and he shrugged. "foreveeeeer" he said as he moved to sit up and took the ski boots off. he'd put them back on when they all hit the slopes, there was no point trying to sneak out now. he sun around with his butt still on the floor and he looked at the coffee in winne's hand and he moved quickly to steal a sip from her cup. "thanks pooh" he said as he moved to stand up, ruffling his hand over her hair as he did.

Leslie kissed Ben on the cheek as he arrived, scolding him for his little speech about knocking Isaac down. At Hermiones arrival she smiled, "awe, yes, you know us Meagles. Gotta get up and get at it, eh?" she chuckled, knowing that wasn't entirely true. Winnie was quite the sleeper, but that wasn't entirely her own fault. As the continued teasing of Isaac commenced, Leslie chuckled but of course kept her mama bear eye on the boy to make sure none of the jokes were actually upsetting him. Unsurprisingly, Winnies arrival also meant the arrival of coffee. Ben moved away from Leslie to kiss each of his children on the head before getting coffee for himself and his beautiful, charming, blonde wife. "Guess we should go skiing after breakfast, eh?" she said to the group. (@hugo is sleeping or something XD he'll be in later, hopefully. let's say this is... after the xan/hugo handholding fiasco)

Hermione grinned and squeezed her husbands' hand. “Morning honey,” she said, and kissed Rose on the cheek. “Glad you slept in a bit today Rosie, that's what vacation is all about!” she exclaimed. She laughed as Winnie came bounding into the room wanting a cup of coffee. She was glad she had made extra for sure. “Mugs are in the cabinet above the pot Winnie,” she let her goddaughter know. She pointed her wand towards the stove and the flames crackled under the pans. She went to the refrigerator and pulled out bacon, eggs and bread. She cracked several eggs onto the oversized pan and slapped the bacon on the other. Into the toaster she put several slices of bread and pushed down the button.
She couldn't help but wince as Leslie suggested they go skiing after breakfast. Of course, this was what the trip was all about; going skiing and being out in the snow. Truth be told, skiing really wasn't her thing. She was planning on going down the bunny hill a few times, then heading back to the cabin for a nice afternoon with a fire, a book and hot cocoa. She tended to the breakfast, inhaling the smell of sizzling bacon as she did. She set the cooked items on platters and began preparing the second batch. “Breakfast!” she called to everyone. Perhaps that would rouse Hugo from his deep slumber.

Now that the commotion had died down and she was able to focus on what was happening, Xan realized that someone important was missing. Hugo was the only one who hadn’t woken up, and Xan had half a mind to go up to his room to make sure he was alright. The fact that they were eating breakfast now didn’t help the girl any; ever since that day when she had walked into the Great Hall with her arm locked around Hugo’s, the meal made her think of the Gryffindor boy. Xan’s stomach began to sink as she thought more deeply. Was Hugo trying to avoid her, because of what had happened? She didn’t think that she had forced him to hold her hand or anything, but Xan wasn’t always good at knowing other people’s limits. She pushed too hard because she was always too excited to stop.
“Has anyone seen Hugo?” She asked, attempting to remain casual as she took a seat at the breakfast table. Xan poked at the mound of toast for a few seconds, carefully sliding two slices out of the tower – one for her, and one for Hugo, just the way he liked it. Xan tried not to look too glum as she picked at her eggs, but it was difficult. She didn’t realize how easy it was to be sad when there was actually someone worth being sad for.

Hugo was slightly scared to go downstairs.
He had slept in, too, which was something he rarely did. He often had trouble sleeping all together but for some reason he was able to sleep soundly last night. He was even able to get some extra sleep and awoke to the happy sound of people stirring downstairs. For a moment he had forgotten what had happened the day before as he went to the bathroom and prepared for the day. He splashed his face with some water and looked in the mirror. As he made eye contact with his reflection he realized, remembered what was happening. He had seen Xan's death, and everyone downstairs had seen him holding her hands.
His eyes widened as he felt a panic is his chest, a tightening that he knew wouldn't go away until he saw her again. He swallowed nervously, nodding once at his reflection before crossing back to the room and getting changed and slowly headed down the stairs...
“Has anyone seen Hugo?” he heard a voice say as he stepped into the hallway. He knew that voice, of course. He stepped into the room and raised a hand to eye level, "present," he said, holding his ground for a few moments before crossing to his mother and kissing her cheek, "morning, mum," he greeted. He then moved to the table and pulled up a seat beside Xan, but his eyes were on his father now, giving him a nod of greeting as well.
Then he turned his face toward Xan and lowered his voice, "morning," his tone was sweet and quiet, almost as if he was telling her a secret. Awe, he was a goner, wasn't he?

Rose leaned up against the kitchen counter and took a moment to ponder which book she would like to read today just when her father walked in and put a hand in her hand. "Mornin', Dad," she greeted him happily. Rose and her father had always had a strong bond but as she happily greeted him this morning she couldn't help but feel a slight sting of guilt for the big secret she was currently keeping from him. The reason she had gladly agreed to go somewhere cold for summer holiday in the first place. While she did feel that little bit of guilt, she didn't have to force a smile when her mother planted a kiss on her cheek. "Me too," she responded, turning to her mother. "It's not often I feel like doing so, either." She shrugged.
Rose's mind seemed to drift in and out of the conversation as she watched the breakfast happily being made. Of course she was thinking about Scorpius, then she wasn't, then she was... it was a never-ending cycle, it seemed. She was glad when her mother finally called out "breakfast." The Ravenclaw headed over to the table. She sat down across from Xanthippe and when her fellow raven asked where Hugo was, Rose looked up at her. A small, happy smirk then appeared on the girl's face. She recognized the casual way in which Xan asked where Hugo was. Rose, of all people, could recognize it from a mile away. After all, she had been doing the whole "casual" thing with Scorpius what felt like for years.
When her brother entered, Rose looked up toward him with a smile. "There he is, Xan," she responded a little pointedly, but disguised it with the same casual tone Xanthippe had used moments before. Rose looked down at her toast and bacon, reaching to grab for some eggs as Hugo sat down across from her and next to Xanthippe. When Rose had filled her plate she picked up her fork and glanced up at the two of them, a small smile appearing on her face. Rose knew Hugo better than anyone, the two were extremely close. And Rose could easily see what was going on. She looked back down at her food, still smiling, as she began to eat her breakfast.
