overall personality:
Catherine (who really prefers to just be called "Cat") is a very senses-oriented person. She's a hands-on leaner who enjoys finding things out for herself. She needs to see things to believe them (even in a world of magic) and has a hard time trusting in anything beyond that. Her ears often hear more than is ever actually said aloud, making her extremely insecure about her body, especially her weight, height, and hair.
Cat is incredibly adventurous and prefers to think of restricted or inaccessible areas as challenges instead of guidelines. Theft, unfortunately, remains her big weakness. If Cat can feasibly steal something that she wants and not get caught, she probably will. How she stays out of the orphanage and keeps alive has been her closest kept secret (though it's pretty much just a hidden lockbox in London where she keeps her stolen valuables for selling or trading.
Cat loves to talk to people and talk about adventures and other stories. She tends to be sociable (unless perturbed), easy to approach, and loyal to those she has become friends with.
Cat has a bizarre quirk that tends to annoy some people. When bored or nervous, Cat will drum her fingers against whatever is in front of her or convenient.

history:
Catherine McIntyre was born to an Irish Wizard and Quidditch Referee and a British Muggle Gymnast. They were both young and hot-headed and fueled each other's passions, completely regardless of magic. Life was calm and quiet and not un-ordinary for years, even when Catherine received her Hogwarts letter. Cat was sorted into Gryffindor House and quickly fell in love with the House and its identity.
As she grew older, she took after her mother's love for gymnastics and quickly took to the art of motion, control, and discipline. She was sorely tempted to try out for the Gryffindor Quidditch Team, but didn't want the sport to pull her away from her gymnastics practice. Quite often, Cat's father had to travel to keep up with the movements of the United Kingdom's Quidditch League. His stories and letters from different places inspired Cat's fascination with adventure.
During Cat's 4th year at Hogwarts, her father was caught as being part of a larger group that was actively influencing wins and losses of Quidditch games both on and off the field. He was quickly incarcerated and Cat hasn't heard from him since. In the same year, Cat came home during Christmas Break to find her mother home, stuck in a wheelchair. An accident at a competition had caused an injury that rendered both of her legs completely numb. Cat was heartbroken to learn of her mother's injury, but didn't realize that she wouldn't see her mother again for a long time after that holiday. When she returned home, she found the place empty with no trace of her mother's existence. Cat went on to live at an orphanage for a summer and a few holidays, but could not be contained within the walls of a home that wasn't hers. Whenever she could, she left the orphanage to roam the streets of London. Streets turned to Alleys and Alleys into rooftops and wherever else she could get herself. The first time she ever stole something was when she was hungry. The rush felt almost too good to be believed by Catherine, but after a few more incidents, she was hooked. Usually, Cat would go out at night and keep quiet, alone with her thoughts as she ventured forth to find herself amongst the crowded streets of the eclectic city.
(ADMIN DEE) It was during that time of exploration and reflection that Cat accidentally discovered what she initially believed to be a strange wandless spell. While hiding from a shop-keep for a less-than-goodie-good reason, Cat instinctively ducked behind a shelf and pulled what she thought was a blanket over herself. This blanket felt highly foreign to her, as - to her surprise - she had somehow pulled the shadow of the bookshelf around her, further concealing herself from the vengeful eyes of the shop keep. After doing her own grueling research, Cat found a few scattered documents of a rare ability known only as Shadowmancy, or the ability to manipulate shadows via magic, and a wand or hand. Cat has been experimenting with the ability since that time, but hasn't been able to reproduce anything quite as impressive as the shadow-blanket. She wonders if high-stakes or strong emotions are required to do anything beyond screwing with shadow puppets, but this curious trait is something she will be investigating further.
Cat never gave up her gymnastic practices, nor her studies. She tried to be the best student she could be without attracting too much attention and did her best to remain social and friendly, without letting on too much about her parents except with her closest friends. She developed a split life of academic pursuit, and mischievous adventures; culminating in a dream to someday become an Auror so that she could have the tools to personally find her mother and have contact with her father once more.
Of interest, Cat is extremely against bullying and those who prey on the weak or the alternatively strong. She does all she can to stand up for those who are being put down, and though she hasn't made prefect, she still tries to interject whenever she can. This was trouble for her during the attack on Hogwarts in April where she tried to fight off one of the masked intruders and was rendered unconscious after an embarrassingly short duel. This and the destruction of Kings Cross Station both made her incredibly angry toward the masked people and strengthened her resolve to someday fight back and win.
