“Welcome, one and all, back to another year at Hogwarts.”
“The last year was hard on us for many reasons. The world never seems to run out of people who wish ill upon others, and last year, that malice returned after nearly twenty years of peace. There were losses, and pain, and suffering. Students, teachers, and aurors were attacked.”
“But even in the midst of all that, life goes on. We remain unbroken, we have not turned away from this threat or denied its existence, and when it has arisen, we have challenged it and pushed it back. And we shall continue to do so. Those among us who lived through the last war understand best of all that we cannot be cowed into submission by the darkness, but must stand against it and in defiance of it, at all times and in all ways.”
“And in that spirit, Hogwarts will continue to operate without fear.”
“As many of you know, this is once again the year of the Triwizard Tournament. Many have wondered whether a tournament could even be held, with things the way they are. Well, I am happy to report that we will, as per usual, host the tournament here!”
“Students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons will be hosted here throughout the year. The Goblet of Fire will be lit, and it will choose a single champion from each participating school among those who volunteer their names. Our visiting schools will only be bringing students who will be entering their names into the Goblet. As for the students here, the rule is simple: seventh years may compete. The Goblet will be protected against students not in the seventh year. No, I won't tell you how, that will just lead to people thinking they can figure out a way around it.”
“There is a good reason for this. The tournament is dangerous, and not only for you. If you are chosen as Champion, you enter into a binding magical contract. You must compete in the tournament. There is no backing out. And competing in the tournament may lead to consequences not only for you, but for those around you. Think carefully before you enter. Honor and glory are how the world sees suffering and sacrifice.”
“With this increased presence of people, particularly during the events themselves, which will draw in spectators from all over Europe, will come increased security. You have likely already seen the greater number of aurors around the castle. They will be here in greater number throughout the year, to accommodate the greater numbers of students present. And there will be many more during the events themselves.”
“Also, I am ecstatic to welcome back to Hogwarts one Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds, and Professor of the Care of Magical Creatures class. I've been here most of the last thirty years of my life, and speaking as someone with that experience—it's just not Hogwarts without you, Hagrid. Welcome home.”
“First years, please take note that there is a curfew in place. Your prefects will be on duty in the Great Hall during dinner to make sure you don’t get lost on your way back to your common room. Also, note that the Forbidden Forest is off limits to students, and there is to be no use of magic in the corridors between classes. You’ll learn the rest as you go along.”
“Once again, to returning staff and students, welcome back! To our new students, welcome! And to those who wish to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, good luck! Let the feast…begin!”
((OOC ADMIN NOTE: Hey guys! The school year has officially started and Tri-Wizard tournament has been announced! Feel free to post your character reactions here with Neville, in this board with a new thread or in the Great Hall board with a new thread! After Nevilles speech the other schools will come in so run with that
