Cordelia Finch-Fletchley was never a morning person. All her life, she preferred staying up until the wee hours of the morning and then sleeping in until late afternoon. Unfortunately with classes, Cordie couldn't normally sleep in past nine. So, Cordie usually found herself sleeping in and then skipping breakfast all together, much to the chagrin of her stomach. However the blonde had grown so accostomed to not eating in the morning that she was just used to snacking throughout the day until dinner time. She would often carry little snacks to much on between classes or sneak into her mouth at the back of the class, but occasionally that landed her in detention depending on which professor's class it was.
This morning was like any other. Cordie had gone off to potions earlier, then muggle studies, and now found herself on her way back to the dungeons to the kitchens. Over the years of being a habitual snacker and breakfast skipper, Cordie had come to be good friends with the house elves in the kitchens who would normally sneak her a snack or two. So that was where she was heaaded this late morning, with a little spring to her step as she happily walked along the cold and murky corridors of the dungeon.
The girl opened the double doors to the kitchen and took a wiff. The elves were already starting to make dinner, which Cordelia could tell was going to include some sort of stew as she could see elves cutting up all sorts of vegetables and throwing them in a large cauldron, big enough to cook for the entire school. She leapt inside and walked over to the island counter, leaning down against it with her elbows. "Gooood morning," she greeted, grinning at the elves. They all knew she was there to mooch off of whatever they were cooking with, so one elf, with a roll of his eyes, tossed a few carrots in Cordie's direction. Cordie caught them perfectly in her grasp and she gave the little elf a wink in thanks as she began to munch on one of the carrots.

Ethan didn't often find himself in the dungeons but made his way there to discuss teaching with the Professor. However, Petar was not there at the time so Ethan made the best of his long trip down all those stairs and headed towards the kitchens. It was strange walking over there, he hadn't been there in years. When he was younger he used to sneak down during lunch and watch them magically transport the food upstairs. That kind of thing is fascinating for a muggle born. But since probably his second year, he hadn't stepped a foot down there. He decided it'd be nice to give them a little visit.
"Nice catch," Ethan had just walked into the kitchens to see a Hufflepuff girl catch some carrots. He had seen her before, of course, they were in the same year. The girl was Cordelia Finch-Fletchley, and she had always been beautiful. Ethan walked up until he was side by side with her and waved to the house elves. "Long time no see, hey guys?' The elves all looked at him like he was a crazy person that they had never seen in his life. Ethan sighed, of course he looked completely different than he did as a first year, that was six year ago!

Cordie happily continued to munch on the carrot but she was completely caught off guard when she heard someone comment on her catch. She recognized that voice, but she had not heard him come in. Cordie whisked around to face the Ravenclaw as he ccame to stand beside her. "Thanks," she shrugged with a smile. Cordie loved being complimented at something she knew she was good at. It showed her that she wasn't the only one that noticed, and other people noticed as well. The blonde then happily handed the Ravenclaw one of her carrots, a grin on her face.
Ethan Johnson. Ravenclaw Prefect and Captain and Chaser for his house Quidditch team. Cordelia would be lying if she said that she didn't find him to be cute. He was quite handsome, actually. Cordelia kind of had a thing for Quidditch players, as she was a Chaser herself. She had played against Ethan many times over the years, so she obviously knew who he was. She also happened to know that he was a muggleborn, and Cordelia loved muggles.
"Ahh, you're a kitchen regular as well?" Cordie asked, raising her eyebrows a little flirtatiosly. She didn't turn to see the elves, but many of them rolled their eyes. A lot of them found Cordie's mooching to be meddlesome and annoying, as she usually liked to talk when she visited the elves. Some were also thankful that another person was there so that they would not have to be subjected to Cordie's talking themselves.

Ethan happily took the carrot that Cordie offered him and took a bite out of it. That smile of hers was a sight to see, and he made a point to keep his eyes on it as she raised her eyebrows at him. "I used to be, but I kind of stopped coming down here after my second year or so." He admitted. He kept his eyes locked on her as he took several more bites out of his carrot. As he finished he started to walk deeper into the kitchen, gesturing for Cordie to follow.
"Nothing like that match of 2019, Hufflepuff against Ravenclaw. Huh, Cordelia?" he smirked. He wanted to let her know that he knew who she was without saying it in a stalker-like way. Quidditch was something they both had in common. It was safe grounds, well air, to relate to her with. That match was brutal, for both sides, and the two chasers faced off more than once. That was the first time he really noticed her as more than just a passing person. She looked so happy and at place on the field, she laughed in the face of danger. During that match Cordi managed to knock Ethan off his broom and, luckily, one of his teammates caught him by the arm before he hit the ground.
The moment produced mass panic among the Ravenclaws in the crowd, but Ethan was too busy laughing and watching Cordie circle the scene to worry about dying. He summoned his broom and his teammate helped him onto it. The rest of the match was almost just as brutal, but not as life threatening.

Ethan Johnson had always been a looker, but Cordelia had never spent any one on one time with him before to notice just how handsome he was. They had always been surrounded by their fellow classmates or teammates, or they would be distracted by the quaffle on the field. But as Ethan spoke and Cordie kept her eyebrow raised, she found herself studying him. His dark hair, his blue eyes... they were very becoming. And then his muscles... Cordie had definitely noticed the muscles before. The Finch-Fletchley girl was known for being a little boy crazy, particularly over Quidditch players. She had first taken notice of Ethan on the Quidditch pitch because of his good physique and skill on a broom. He was a captain, after all.
"Well that was silly of you," Cordie said with a smile as she took another bite of her own carrot. "The elves have become much more generous since then, isn't that right guys?" The blonde looked at the elves around the kitchen, while many ignored her or they simply rolled their eyes. Cordelia just grinned at them.
Cordelia's head turned back to Ethan as he mentioned an old Quidditch match. How could Cordie forget? It was her fourth year and even back then, Cordie was ruthless on the Quidditch field. But it was always in good fun. This specific match that Ethan mentioned just so happened to be the match in which Cordie first noticed Ethan. She had actually knocked him off of his broom during the match. Cordie actually hadn't noticed until she had been told by her teammates after the match ended, and Cordie's initial reaction was wide eyes and "is he okay?" But then she had seen him at dinner and thought, "of course he's alright, look at him." But since then, Cordelia had never directly knocked him off of his broom. Which in retrospect may have been a problem, because she could have gotten to know him on a much more personal level if she had accidentally knocked him off of his broom again. But Cordie was interested in the now, and right now he was standing in front of her.
"So why the sudden interest in the kitchen after all these years?" She asked, folded her arms with her carrot positioned so she could easily take a bite out of it.

Ethan laughed as the elves rolled their eyes at her. She didn't seem to care, and he liked that. She was silly and sweet. "I know, I wait until my last year to come partake in the generosity" he smiled at an elf who as cutting some apples and she handed a small slice to him. He bowed in thanks and continued down the kitchen, he knew there was a fireplace in the back somewhere that he used to sit under when he was little. That's where he was headed, might as well go to the spot he loved the most if he was going to visit, right?
Cordie must have played out the match in her head after he spoke, but she didn't say anything about it. He noticed her eyes darting back and forth a few times, the way they often do when one is reliving a memory. He just stood there, smiling at her while she replayed the memory. That was one of his favorite moments with her. That was one of his only moments with her. She was easy to be drawn to, with that positive attitude and sweet smile. There was only one problem, though. One of his best friends, Sean, had shown interest in Cordie. This basically meant the girl was off limits to Ethan, which was a shame.
Ethan shrugged, "I was coming to talk to the potions professor, but he wasn't in so I thought I may as well make the best of my trip and head over here."

Cordelia watched Ethan carefully, a smile on her face all the while, as an elf offered him an apple and he bowed in acceptance. The blonde Hufflepuff giggled at this. When Ethan began to walk off toward the back of the kitchen, Cordie took no time to hesitate and she followed after him. She wasn't sure where he was going, but Cordie had never really been one to ask questions. She was spontaneous and usually just let the wind guide her, so to speak.
Cordie took another bite of her carrot. "Well, good thing you did, or I'd be enjoying this carrot by myself," she said with a shrug. Cordie continued to follow the Ravenclaw until they came to a fireplace. Cordelia had actually never known there was a fireplace down here. She really only stuck to where the food was because... well, it was good. With a grin, Cordelia went for the fire and set herself down on the ground in front of it. She crossed her legs Indian-style and then looked up at Ethan. "Oh, do join me, Sir Prefect?" She teased in a proper Englishwoman accent, patting the space next to her.
Keeping an eye on Ethan, Cordie sort of raised an eyebrow at him and studied him briefly. She had never spoken directly to the boy but she felt like getting to know him now. "So, other than being Prefect, Quidditch Chaser and Captain, and good looking, what's your story?" Cordelia Finch-Fletcley wasted no time being shy or beating around the bush. When she thought something, she would come right out and say it. She really had no filter. But she didn't mind that she had just complimented Ethan's good looks because he was good looking. As Cordelia awaited a response, she lightly bit on her bottom lip. Another thing she had always been good at was flirting with boys, and the lip biting was her go-to signature move. Sean Owens crossed her mind briefly, though. Cordie and Sean didn't have feelings for one another, rather they just fooled around whenever they so felt like it. Cordelia was unaware that Ethan and Sean were best friends, however. Sean and she had never really spoken of their personal parts of life, just a lot of snogging.

Ethan watched her pat the spot beside her and gave a little bow and stepped closer to her before sitting down, cross-legged at well. "Why, thank you for the invitation, Milady," he chuckled. Part of Ethan felt bad about making new friends so close to leaving school. Especially because he knew he wouldn't see them again, at least not often. But then again, Cordie was befriending him, wasn't she? And she was also a seventh year. She thought it was fine to be friends, and she was probably right. Ethan needed to stop worrying so much. He felt himself getting distracted and in too deep with his thoughts and pulled himself back to the present in time to hear her question. Her question as to what his story was.
He raised an eyebrow at her as she bit her lip. Dang, she was cute. He could see what Sean saw in her. He was still confused about the situation, considering Sean had recently confessed to Ethan his feelings towards Rose Weasley, another Ravenclaw girl. Ethan loved Rose like a sister, but still thought it odd that Sean had dibs on all the pretty girls. Ethan could at least befriend Cordelia, right? Flirting wasn't entirely out of the question either.
"Well, my story isn't that exciting. Just a little muggle born who loves Quidditch and wants to be a Professor someday," he sighed, "or a professionaly Quidditch player. Or both. Still working out the after graduation thing."

Cordie smiled to herself, happy that the Prefect had accepted her invitation to sit next to her. Cordelia loved making new friends and she was elated to be sitting down in the kitchen with Ethan now. New friend plus an endless supply of food equaled a happy Cordie. She giggled only a little bit when Ethan called her "milady." So he was a gentleman? Cordie loved that in boys. The way Cordie saw it, it never hurt to meet new friends. Even if she never saw them again, she just hoped that she made a positive impact on their lives while she was in it.
When Ethan said that his story wasn't all that exciting, Cordelia let her head fall slightly to the side as she gave him a skeptical look. Cordelia knew that Ethan was a muggleborn. Growing up in a family full of muggles (outside of her parents and brother, that is,) it was easy for her to spot one. That and she may or may not have heard he was a long time ago. Her eyes lit up when Ethan mentioned he wanted to possibly be a Quidditch player one day. "Really? Me too!" She said excitedly. It always made her happy to meet someone who shared the same goals and hobbies that she did. "Well, minus the professor part," she added with another little wink.
"I wouldn't worry about it though," the blonde shrugged looking back at the fire. "We've still got the rest of this year. It's only October after all," she looked back at him and smiled. Something about Ethan made Cordelia smile but she couldn't put her finger on it.

As Cordelia cocked her head and looked at Ethan skeptically he laughed. He always forgets that purebloods find his being a muggle born to be a pretty interesting thing. Though, come to think of it, he didn't think Cordie was a pureblood. She had, in the past, not looked lost or confused to some muggle references he had made. He started to realize he really didn't know anything about this girl, which was not okay by him. His mouth dropped when she said me too but when back to a smile after she minused the professor. "Oh, good. That would have been really freaky if you had the exact same dreams and conflict that I do. I would have been royally freaked out." He chuckled. It was an honest statement, but funny nonetheless.
Ethan shrugged as she turned to look at the fire and joined her, "I know. But isn't everyone and their dog asking you what you want to be? I mean, you have the makings for a Pro-Quidditch team. So, they probably don't bother asking because it's obvious." He meant that as a compliment but realized it could have come off wrong, like maybe not one thought she was good at anything else. He decided not to take it back though, he wanted to let her interpret how she would and he would act accordingly.
"Mostly I just want to know for me, you know? So I don't have to keep thinking about it all the time, weighing the pros and cons, banging my head against the wall." He chuckled leaning forward into order to rest his elbows onto his knees, still staring into the fire. That's how he felt, like those flames. Passionate and going in all different directions, but each direction wasn't clear. Ever changing.

Cordelia smiled at Ethan. There was something about him, aside from his joking personality, that really seemed to make her laugh. "What makes you want to be a professor?" She asked him, taking a bite of a new carrot. Cordie wants to get to know Ethan. He seemed like a really nice guy, and someone she could see herself really being friends with. And when it came to questions, Cordie was good at asking them. Especially when it came to getting to know someone. So one could say that Ethan was in for a world of answering those questions.
Shrugging, Cordelia turned to look back at Ethan. "That's what I want to be," she said, gesturing to herself with her free hand that wasn't occupied holding carrots. "And trust me, some people want that for me, as well..." Her voice began to trail off toward the end of the sentence. "But my parents..." She let her eyes roll slightly but she still smiled, for she didn't want to speak entirely ill of her parents. "Let's just say they have different plans for me." She looked back to the fire.
When Ethan spoke up again, Cordie turned to him. "I know what you mean," she nodded. "It kinda sucks... feeling that pressure to have to do something right after graduation." It was true. The pressue was on for the seventh years. What with N.E.W.T.s and their future careers on the line, many were already overwhelming themselves with crazy workloads. Cordie wasn't that type, but she still felt a bit of pressure.

"I just really like the way peoples eyes light up when they learn something new, and understand. I want to be that person guiding them," it was a silly dream, but so many people did that for him when he was just a little muggleborn learning to walk on wizard legs. He owed a lot of people for his talent in quidditch and his love for the game, too, because they taught him. He knew it was a noble profession.
He watched her inner struggle and cocked an eyebrow, "really? What are those plans, if I may ask? An arranged marriage?" he joked at that last part because he wanted to lighten the mood and make her more comfortable in order to answer the question. His parents really had no problem with any choice he was making, which was great for him. His mom owned a bookstore and his dad edited newspapers. They were all for following your dreams whatever they may be.
Ethan rolled his eyes at her comment about the pressure, "I know, right? Part of me wants to just take a few months off and just gallivant in the muggle world for a while. It might be easier than making a decision." He chuckled and leaned forward to brush his fingers through his hair with both hands. He turned back to her, leaving one hand in his hair. "Say, why don't you join me?"

Cordelia watched Ethan explain why he wanted to be a professor. His reasoning was admirable and it made her smile at him widely. "That's really sweet of you," she said shifting her weight to lean back on her arms. "I think we could use a lot of professors with that kind of attitude around here," she looked back at him and tilted her head to the side. "We could also use a few more good looking ones too, so I think you're perfect for the job!" She joked lightly.
At Ethan's attempt to lighten the mood, Cordie couldn't help but crack a smile. "Nooo," she said, giggling a little. Then she sighed. "My parents... want me to have a real job. They don't think a job as a professional Quidditch player is sustainable enough." She put air quotes around the last two words. Cordie came from a wealthy halfblood family. Both her parents had been muggleborns, and the Finch-Fletchley family was a very wealthy muggle family in London. They wanted Cordelia to have a "real" job, much like a professor for instance. Or a job at the Ministry. Those jobs just did not suit or interest Cordelia. Her passion was on the pitch, and she was sure it always would be.
Cordelia's eyes lit up at mention of the muggle world. Growing up around muggle grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins made her love the muggle world. Almost more than the wizarding world sometimes. She smiled at the boy in front of her. "I would love to," she said a polite and joking tone. "It would be nice to have a break for a while." She kept her eyes on Ethan and remained smiling.

"I... uh..." he appreciated her compliment about needing more professors with good values around, but the add in about his looks threw him off guard. He took a deep breath and let out a nervous laugh on the exhale. "Thanks, I don't think me looks would really help with the students though... unless they were girls," he laughed as he thought or gay. He couldn't imagine being one of those teachers that the students crushed on. He was sure his cheeks were red as beets and they felt warmer than the fireplace.
"A real job?" he did quotation marks as well, "what is that even supposed to mean?" he chuckled. Sure, he understood that parents wanted their children to do good in the world, get things done and go places. But Ethan thought Quidditch was important too. "They just need to understand that sports are an important part of culture. Even in the olden days there were sports. Without sports, in our case Quidditch, there is no unity among people. Civil wars would break out because people would feel separated and be depressed!" It was a silly opinion but it was how he truly felt.
He cocked an eyebrow at her, she sounded serious about his offer. "Then it's settled," he started, his stomach doing little flips and turns, "you and I will explore the muggle world after graduation, vowing not to use magic for a predetermined amount of time... how long should it be?" he chuckled, almost as if they would really go through this plan. But who knows, maybe they would. Maggie crossed his mind, and how they probably should invite her too. Considering they were both such good friends with her.

[[I'm just posting this question here. Should we just fast forward and be all 'oh the relationship was cute and fun but let's break up! OOOOR do you want them to stay together for a while for some drama between her and Sam? Honestly, I'm cool with saying their together and not even threading it out kind of like an NPC relationship. Gosh that sounds awful. Whatever YOU want, I will do!]]
