Coriander was reading as she walked, which she tended to do a lot. She saw a lot of people she recognized, being a 7th year does that to you. As does being a class A wallflower. She was studying for Herbology. At least that's what the book liked like to anyone passing by. Professor Longbottom had given it to her because it might hold clues as to how to remove the curse on her blood. At first, as a child, she thought the curse one on her skin but it turns out it was on her blood, making her run cold. Almost enough to be inhuman, but still enough to keep her body running. She slammed the book shut, furious that it wasn't getting her anything. She tried not to cry but a single tear came down her cheek, turning into ice as soon as it reached the surface. The stairs changed, jolting her back to reality.

It was just a normal day for Ronan, or as normal it could get for a seventh year student at Hogwarts. He had just come from the common room, and he looked and greeted many people that he knew. Most people knew him as a prankster, and that he usually hung out with James a lot. But today he just wanted to go around and see if he could meet anyone new. Which was a hard thing because almost everyone in his house knew him as did most Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs. And well Slytherins were Slytherins there really was no way to put. He had been on a staircase coming down from Gryffindor Tower, when the stupid staircase decided to start moving on him. It was moving slowly, "Great I had to get the slow one. Dumb staircase, move faster." It wasn't that he was being impatient, wait maybe he was. Ronan always got stuck on this dumb stair case whenever he was alone, but then yet again every time that this happened he always met people he had never met before.
Having to wait while this thing moved at a snails pace wasn't very. Ronan walked over to the side of the staircase and four floors down he saw someone slam a book closed. Wait had he seen her somewhere before. Oh yeah duh she is a fellow seventh year, and by the looks of it a Ravenclaw. "Time to make a new friend." He said to no one in particular since there was on one else on this dumb staircase as he watched a single tear fall on the girl's face before it froze. 'That's odd.' Ronan thought as an idea came to his mind. Something that the muggles called base jumping, except for he didn't have a... what were those things again? Oh yeah! A parachute. To help slow his descent. "Well here goes nothing, just like falling off a broom in Quidditch right?" He then squared his shoulders before noticing that the other staircase was moving as well. Hit a moving target easy right? He took one last look before he leaped over the edge and spread his limbs out to slow his descent a little bit. When he got close enough, after dodging a few staircases as well as earning him yells of shock from students, he whispered a simple spell, "Winguardium Leviosa" to bring him safely down to the staircase that the girl was on whom he had seen before. "Hello. If you don't mind me asking why are you so upset?" Ronan said before he introduced himself. "Name's Ronan, what is your name?"

"Winguardium Leviosa" Cori heard a voice falling towards her, she looked up just in time to see the guy land. "Hello. If you don't mind me asking why are you so upset? Name's Ronan, what is your name?" She was surprised at how casual he sounded. Like he jumped from moving staircases every day. "Are you like a crazy person?" she asked him while taking a step back. "And yes, I do mind you asking." she turned away from him. After a few moments of silence she said and turned around, she made eye contact with him.
"Ronan. I'm Coriander. Nice to meet you." she kept her arms close to her, her gloved hands wrapped tightly around the book she held to her chest. "It's just some studying. I can't seem to focus." She said quickly. She was still tense, but she tried to keep calm. As long as she kept her distance she was good, right?

"Are you like a crazy person?" He laughed at this question, he had been asked that several times. Do something once and if it works it works, if it fails never do it that way again. That is if you survived the failed attempt. “Yes I am kind of crazy. Thanks.” Ronan answered the question that she had asked him when he had landed. That kind of questions was always taken as a compliment. It was really quite fun, ‘maybe I can get James to do it, to see what would happen.’ He thought of how he could get one of his best friends to do what he just did.
There was something in her tone of voice and the way she had folded her arms told him one simple thing and that was that she liked to keep to herself. Well that was fine he didn’t really mind at all. “It’s nice to meet you too Cori.” Ronan paused, after shortening her name a bit since her name Coriander was kind of a mouth full. “You don’t mind if I call you Cori, do you?” He had to be sure, most times people got mad at him whenever he shortened their names or he gave them nicknames. "It's just some studying. I can't seem to focus." Ronan could tell that she was tense, and not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable, he took a step back and leaned up against the railing of the staircase that they were on. “I never thought I would hear a Ravenclaw say that they couldn’t focus. But then yet again I couldn’t focus much earlier, when I was doing homework.” He looked at Cori and smiled before he asked hoping to ease the tension, “So what is your favorite subject to study?” He was determined now to get to know her, because she also seemed like a person who didn’t have many friends.

Cori nodded slowly, "Well, at least when you're crazy you can admit that you're crazy. I can support that." She nodded. She had never done anything like that in her life, jumping from stair to stair. What if someone tried to catch her and they turned into a big icicle? She almost laughed. There was no way her curse could do something crazy like that, and there was no way she was going to try and find out. She found herself smiling in spite of herself however, because this guy was kind of funny and entertaining. At least, it was better than being frustrated with her lack of information from the book.
Cori shook her head at his question, "Hmmm, no." She smirked, "Not quite ready to be handing out nicknames to strangers... but thanks for asking." and she really meant it. A lot of guys would just start calling her whatever they wanted and doing whatever they wanted without being nice enough to ask. She appreciated it, even though she didn't trust him quite yet. When he took a step back she smiled again, he was being kind. That was surprising. "Well, it's not exactly for school. Just something that is extra-curricular that is proving to be a lot harder than is worth my time." she relaxed a little, lowering her arms to her sides, book in one hand. She rolled her shoulders back and took another step further from him. If they were going to talk, she may as well get comfortable. "I like ancient runes. It's... amusing. What about you? Or do you not know how to read?" she bit her lip making a oh-no-I-didn't face, "just kidding."

Ronan nodded in agreement. “Thanks.” He said and it was a statement but still he could tell that Coriander meant what she said. He smiled as Coriander thanked him for asking, about giving her a nickname, right from the get go. "Hmmm, no… Not quite ready to be handing out nicknames to strangers... but thanks for asking.” But that didn’t really matter to him. “I can respect that. I don’t normally let strangers give me nicknames either. “ Ronan said since he never really liked people giving him nicknames until they got to know each other.
"I like ancient runes. It's... amusing. What about you? Or do you not know how to read?... just kidding." Ronan gave a chuckle as Coriander told him about which class was her favorite. But what made him laugh was when she asked him if he could read. “Oh, your words hurt me.” He said jokingly and with a smirk, as he put a hand over his heart as if it hurt. “And yes I can read, I am also in ancient runes, the only Gryffindor there.” He gave her a wink as if to say he didn’t mind at all what she had said. ”As for my favorite subject, that is a toss-up in between Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense against the dark arts. But if I had to choose one I would choose Charms.” He was quite good at charms and he had a real knack for it. He looked around and noticed that they were the only ones on this particular stair case, but that might be because whenever someone tried to head up the stairs they hit an invisible barrier, it seemed the castle had a mind of it’s own and was blocking people from using the staircase. “Well would you look at that the castle is stopping people from using this staircase. I wonder why that is.” It was rather odd to see something like this, but it didn’t really phase Ronan, since when was anything ever normal at Hogwarts. The castle had a mind of it’s own and did what it wanted, but it was very fun to see things like this.

Cori laughed and folded her arms, "What would they call you, anyway? RoRo?" she cocked an eyebrow at him, daring him to say that somebody has indeed called him that before. Maybe his mother had, but she didn't dare bring that up. Being a foster kid, Cori made it a point not to bring up or ask people about their parents. You never knew what the story was behind the face. For all she knew Ronans parents died in a tragic fire, or tortured him or worse! Or maybe they were the nicest people on the planet. Cori shook the thought away by shaking her head and faced Ronan again.
Cori laughed out loud again when he spoke of her words being hurtful. She shrugged, "it's what I'm good at. The words, I mean." Cori nodded her head slowly and placed a hand on her chin, "Okay, okay. You're starting to look familiar now. I usually hide out in the back, so... yeah." she started feeling even more awkward when he mentioned they had a class together. She should have remembered his name. Now that she thought about it, she definitely remembered seeing him in classes over the years. He was the Gryffindor who made it very clear when he was in a room. Not in a bad way, he just had a way of drawing attention.
Cori looked up when she saw where the staircases were being blocked, "That is weird... did you do that?" she asked coldly. Classic. A boy trying to make the moves on her by freezing the staircase.

"What would they call you, anyway? RoRo?" He couldn’t help but laugh at that. RoRo that was a good one he hadn’t heard that one in quite a while. “Actually yes someone has called me RoRo before. It was quite funny actually. But no most people call me Ronan or Ro. But you can call me whatever you want. I don’t mind.” He watched as Coriander placed her hand on her chin sizing him up or something. "Okay, okay. You're starting to look familiar now. I usually hide out in the back, so... yeah." Ronan smirked as he listened to her take about remembering him somewhat.
“Ah a person after my own heart I see. I usually sit in the back as well. Well most times I guess it just depends on if I am the first one there or not, and if I know anyone.” Ronan said with a smile. He laughed a little bit as someone was knocked off their feet, when they tried to come down the staircase. It was quiet funny because it was one of his friends, who got up and laughed before walking off to find another way down. "That is weird... did you do that?" Coriander asked him coldly. He really had no idea as to why they were blocked. “Trust me I would never block the stairs. I would never do something like that just to talk to someone. I think it might be the castle doing it or something. It does tend to have a mind of it’s own sometimes. I mean take a look at the Room of Requirement. When my friends and I go in there sometimes it pulls it’s own pranks on us. Especially when we are trying to not get caught for a prank that we just pulled or something of that nature.” He looked around and he noticed a picture trying not to laugh and that just confirmed his theory that it was indeed the castle blocking the staircase from anyone but them.

Cori let her jaw drop as he said someone actually had called him RoRo, "Who was it? Your Grandmother?" she asked with sincerity. That's the only person she could imagine calling him that. Cori decided if she ever became friends with this person that's what she would call him, but she doubted this stair relationship would last very long. "I'll just stick to calling you Ronan, for now." She thought about winking, making it clear she wouldn't call him that forever, but she didn't do it. She wasn't even sure she knew how to wink. Sure she could flirt, but she avoided the physical stuff for the most part.
He sat in the back too? Maybe that's why she recognized him, because he had a part time time share in her domain. She nodded, she could remember it now. "Don't worry, your heart is safe. I'm not much for heart snatching," she spoke a little too sincerely this time, starting to reveal her true feelings. That was weird, she thought. Better to be honest than not, though. She made a point to not confess her confusion and troubles on the romantic front to people, but RoRo was just so easy to talk to. I mean, Ronan.
Cori listened as he spoke but didn't look at him until she noticed the picture laughing. She sighed, "I'm sorry. I'm just used to people being...." she shrugged as she looked back at him, "jerks," she admitted. She knew it wasn't entirely the guys fault. When guys would flirt with her she'd purposefully play hard to get in order to make sure he never got her. That generally made guys take drastic measures, though it hadn't happened to her often. "Guess that castle thinks it's a matchmaker, huh?" she tried to sound more upbeat as she spoke.

"Who was it? Your Grandmother?" Ronan couldn’t help but laugh at these questions because Coriander had guessed right. Most people never guessed right and then they never believed him when he told them that it was his grandma that had called him that. “Actually, yes it was my grandmother who called me that.” Ronan said and nodded his head as Coriander told him that she would just stick with calling him by his name for now. He figured that nicknames would come later.
Heart snatching. Now that was a new one for Ronan. He noted the way that Coriander spoke with a sincere voice. There was something there. But he wasn’t going to ask about it at all. What surprised him a little bit was when Coriander apologized for assuming that it was him who was blocking the staircase. “Yup it sure does seem that way, doesn’t it?” He made mental note to figure out who the castle was doing this. It was just too odd for it to be a coincidence, it almost seemed that the castle was trying to set him up. Well that just meant he would be making a trip up to the room of requirement, to figure out just what the castle was trying to pull. Ronan could tell that she felt bad for accusing him as she tried to sound more upbeat about it.
If there was anything that he was good at, it was defusing any situation or tension. “So now that we know the castle is behind all of this. What do you like to do for fun?” He asked in a curious tone. There was more to Coriander, but she was already proving to be a challenge. But he loved challenges and hew was more than determined now and he was ready to figure out this puzzle for she seemed like someone that had a lot going on in her life and maybe he could help her out. That is if she would accept his help, for he had yet to offer it.

Cori laughed along with Ronan, especially when he admitted that she had guessed who said the nickname correctly. She smiled widely and widened her eyes as well, "No way!? I can't believe I guessed that!" She laughed a little more as she imagined some crazy old witch calling this tall, handsome boy, RoRo. The idea was just so entirely ridiculous that she kept laughing until her thoughts started to overtake her, as usual. She had never experienced anything like that. A grandmother or anyone giving her a nickname and loving her enough to do so. She felt herself reverting back to her cold and introverted self as the thoughts overtook her.
Cori nodded, "yeah, I mean I had a boyfriend in my fifth year, but he's graduated and well..." she shrugged, "things didn't end well at all, so it's better to just keep my heart in a little box, away from snatchers, like you, she thought. The thought made her chuckle a little. Truth be told she didn't think the guy was half bad, he was actually pretty nice and understanding, but the struggle was still real. Heart snatching wasn't in the works right now.
Cori was taken aback by his question, "Fun?" she said the word like it was a foreign concept. She squinted her eyes and looked up into nowhere, trying to think of an answer, "I mean... I guess I like ancient runes. Yeah, that class cool." This was the best she could come up with? Pathetic.

Ronan laughed along with Coriander, but the whole time he was watching her, and noticed that something stopped her laughing. He was finally able to control his laughter. "yeah, I mean I had a boyfriend in my fifth year, but he's graduated and well... things didn't end well at all, so it's better to just keep my heart in a little box, away from snatchers” Well isn’t that interesting Coriander brought up the whole heart snatching thing again. Ronan wasn’t out to steal or snatch anyone’s heart right now. And plus even if he was he wouldn’t try anything with someone that he had just met. Well he might make an exception in this situation and playfully flirt. But that could wait. “I am sorry that things didn’t work out between you and your ex.” He said sincerely, he really meant it. Ronan wanted to ask her what had happened but that just wasn’t something that you asked the first time you met somebody.
He chuckled a bit as she asked a question with a simple word. “Hey you already told me you like ancient runes and yeah it is fun.” He said teasingly. “But really what do you like to do for fun?” Ronan said in a serious tone before he grinned, he wasn’t really trying to be serious at all. The only thing he was really doing was playfully teasing Coriander, and hopefully she would see that. “You know fun. For example one of the things that I like to do for fun is doing wandless magic, and pulling the occasional prank or two.” He threw that out there hoping that Coriander would see what he was asking about. It was a simple question so that he could learn more about her. Ronan could tell that Coriander rarely ever opened up, and it seemed that she buried her emotions and what not inside of her until she got to know someone. He had observed this behavior in a couple of his friends such as Maryn. Ronan knew that the two were friends.

Cori shrugged, "Not sure why I even brought it up. No big deal. We've got magic staircases to make us happy, right?" This guy wasn't half bad. He was really nice and didn't make a show off of himself. Well, except for the whole stair jumping routine, but she wasn't starting to realize that he probably did it more for the fun of it than to show off to anybody. He was coming across to her as that kind of guy, one who does things for fun and not for show. She hoped her assumption was right.
Ronan was pretty pushy, but not in a bad way. He wanted to have a real conversation with her, even if she was really bad at it. Most people would just write her off as a major b-word and be done with it. She was surprised with his ability to be so friendly. As he went on to explain what he meant she shook her head, not quite sure what to say. "I don't know, Ronan..." she said truthfully. She let it stir in her mind for a moment. When were the moments she was happy? " I mean... watching my friends play Quidditch, that's good. Trying to surprise my best friend Maryn and always failing, that's a fun game." she said slowly. But what did she like to do for fun, really?
She shrugged and a nervous laughed escaped her lips, "can I have another example?"

"Not sure why I even brought it up. No big deal. We've got magic staircases to make us happy, right?" He chuckled at that last bit that kind of sounded like a sarcastic question. “To right you are.” He said in a joking/sarcastic tone as he gestured a hand towards Coriander and then the staircases. Sometimes they were a pain, and just moved enough so you could go back down but if you kept going up you might just end up walking off of the staircase and falling to your death. Well you wouldn’t die since there were charms and what not that the castle itself had in place to keep that from happening.
"I don't know, Ronan... I mean... watching my friends play Quidditch, that's good. Trying to surprise my best friend Maryn and always failing, that's a fun game." Ah now we are getting somewhere, right? Ronan could tell that Coriander wasn’t that great at holding conversations, but that is what made this enjoyable, because it was a challenge and he knew that they could be friends. The question that was asked to him made Ronan smirk mischievously. “Sure you can have another example.” He gave her a wink before he reached into a rather small pocket on the inside of his robes. Well it looked small but it really wasn’t, he had modified all of his robes so that all the pockets seemed normal and rather small. But no he had used an undetectable extension charm on them.
Once he felt the items he was looking for he pulled his hand out, or rather his arm out of the pocket since what he was looking for had ended up on the bottom of the pocket. “Here they are.” Ronan said with a smirk, as he opened his hand to reveal what looked like several muggle firecrackers. But these things were anything but simple firecrackers. Pointing up at Peeves who had slowly been descending towards them to dump whatever was in the bucket that he held onto Coriander and himself. “Peeves thinks he is being quiet and that I haven’t noticed him at all since we have been on this staircase that is keeping us happy as you so put it.” He gave her a wink as he referred back to what she had said earlier about the staircases. “Now what we have here is something that is both fun and an amazing invention for Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. The little but huge firecracker. So these are going to chase Peeves around for a bit. I am sure he will try to get me back latter for this but oh well, he never manages to get me or at least he hasn’t gotten me in the past several years.”
Ronan mumbled incoherently a word that would ignite the firecrackers. Once they were lit Ronan tossed them up into the air towards Peeves. “HEY PEEVES! HAVE FUN WITH THESE!” He shouted as he watched the small little firecrackers zoom towards the resident poltergeist. As they zoomed towards Peeves, each one quickly transformed into a dragon, a wolf, an eagle, or a tiger, and chased Peeves around several staircases and then through a wall that led towards the Great Hall. Ronan chuckled as he heard Peeves shout something about revenge and then a few obscenities. “I also have a thing for playing around with or doing pyrotechnics. It is something that I enjoy a great deal. I really don’t do any of this to show off, I just do it all for the fun of it.” He said as he turned his head to look at Coriander once more. “So is that a good example of fun or would you like another one?” He asked with the same smirk he had on when he sent those firecrackers after Peeves.

Cori raised an eyebrow at him as he reached, what seemed to be his entire arm, into his pocket. That was a pretty rad cloak, it must have had deep pockets. Her eyes widened as he pulled out a few firecrackers. Those pockets wouldn't be able to hold those normally, so he must have done something special with the cloak. As he went on to explain what the use of the crackers was for, Cori couldn't help but hold back a smile. When he mentioned that he was going to have them chase Peeves around, Cori reached forward to grab his wrists, "wait, don-" but it was too late. He had called Peeves attention to them and as the animal shape fireworks sped toward him. Cori watched in awe as Peeves was chased and dropped her jaw at the sound of his profanities.
She turned to Ronan, still in awe. "I... I don't think I can stand next to you anymore," she spoke almost monotone. After a few seconds laughter escaped her lips, "I'm serious, though! He's going to come back!" She laughed a little more. Ronan was most certainly a Gryffindor, brave and reckless. She couldn't believe what he had done, but she couldn't deny that the results were humorous. Cori shook her head when he asked if she wanted another example.
"Nope. I get it," she looked down at her gloved had to realize she was still tightly grasping his wrist. She let go and stepped back, "I guess I could say that I like... fighting evil creatures that try to eat my friends? I haven't done it yet, but I think that would be... fun." She was still in shock after realize she had grabbed him, but she hoped he wouldn't mind as she continued their conversation.
