Edmund was beyond nervous. He was supposed to be meeting Addi's older brother today. Granted, she'd told him that things would be fine and that there wouldn't be a problem, but Edmund was used to dealing with his family. Things were getting better with them, but they rarely went the way he wanted them to. He was at the Quidditch pitch. Addi asked him to decide where they were going to meet and so he chose somewhere he would feel comfortable. He wouldn't be on a broom or anything, but this place was the first one where he felt like he truly found the place for him. He loved Quidditch and hoped that the good feelings in this place would help get rid of any bad feelings that may exist. To be honest, Edmund was worried that Grey would be mad at him because of what Theodosia did to Addi. He still felt immense guilt over that, even though he knew Addi didn't want him to. Edmund closed his eyes and breathed in deeply, loving the feel of this place. Here he could be himself. Here, things might go the way he hoped they would. If he was being totally honest with himself, he wanted Grey to like him and approve of him. Whether or not he thought that would happen ... well, that remained to be seen. @jill2 grey xavier slater

Addilyn had wanted Edmund and Grey to meet; specifically because she had told Grey about him, and she wanted him to like him and get along. Addi wasn't positive exactly how hard that would be, but she hoped it wouldn't. Edmund was shy, Grey was quiet, so she didn't expect much talking to happen. However, both of them are extremely respectful. She on the other hand, being the crazy, happy girl she is, would try to fix the quiet with her personality. Conversation wasn't hard for her, but she was nervous the two of them would immediately begin judging the other when they met in person.
Edmund had told her to meet at The Quidditch Pitch. Interesting, but she didn't pay much attention. It did make her laugh slightly, thinking of this big field, and if Edmund got nervous that he'd make a run for it. Smiling to herself, she started to get ready. She had told Grey to meet her at the front entrance, and when she left the Slytherin Common Room, there he was. She grinned brightly. "Hi, Grey! You look nice." She winked at him playfully. Addi knew Grey wasn't one to try to impress, but still, he looked handsome. And Addilyn was also sure that Edmund was more nervous than Grey was, for obvious reasons.
"Please be nice to him, Grey. Don't try to freak him out on purpose." She laughed softly. Addi wasn't exactly sure if Grey was going to fool around and tease him, or if he was just going to act normal. Either way, she wanted him to be nice at least. They made their way to the pitch and she glanced around, spotting Edmund. "E! We're down here!"

The Monsters walk among us Today was the day he had to meet Edmund, Addi’s boyfriend. It was strange, go back to the start of summer and Grey would probably have cared less about what was going on in his sister’s life. Something in his head since then had told him that being like that was extremely wrong, so now he was here. Funny how things like that worked. At times Grey thought things were moving too fast for him, he was still trying to get used to being there for his sister, and now he was meeting her boyfriend, and then at some point he had to confront the girl that was bullying the two of them. The whirlwind that consisted of Addilyn’s life had dragged him in whether he liked it or not. Regardless of the outcome of the crazy drama movie that would most likely ensue once he chatted with Theodosia, Grey was going to do what he could for Addi. He owed it to her, especially after how he had acted towards her the past few years. He had arranged to meet Addi at the front entrance, and then from there they were going to meet Edmund. Grey didn’t know much about the boy other than a few things Addi had told him so far, so he wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Apparently he also had issues with an older sibling, so Grey couldn’t help but think they were in more common than either of them realized. At the same time though, there was the nagging thought that Theodosia was targeting Addi because of an issue she had with Edmund. Grey didn’t really understand the jealousy and viciousness that sometimes came as a packaged deal with girls. In his experience, if someone had beef with him, they’d either ignore each other or talk it out. In the end, both parties would come up with some kind of decision that worked, and that was that. The only problem here was that Theodosia was bullying both of them, and he wasn’t really sure how to work around that. Finally arriving at the front entrance, he spotted Addi and made his way over to her. She complimented his clothes and Grey couldn’t help but laugh, knowing that he wasn’t exactly dressed for the occasion. It was the thought that counted though. “Thanks. Took me hours to get ready this morning.” He couldn’t help but laugh again. Was this really what he had been missing out on for all these years? There was something oddly calming about having family be this close. “Don’t worry. I won’t give him the fifth degree, unless you think he needs it.” Grey grinned at his sister. After a few minutes of walking, they finally arrived at the Quidditch pitch and Addi called up to a boy sitting in the stands. “What’s he doing way up there? You don’t think he has cold feet, meeting me and all that?”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund opened his eyes when he heard Addi's voice. He looked around, but she wasn't nearby. Rolling his eyes, he stood up and looked down. There she was, waving at him happily with her brother by her side. At the sight of her, Edmund couldn't help but smile. What was she doing down there? It wasn't like they were going to go flying. He waved back and called down to her, "One minute, Adds!"He knew it wouldn't take long to run down the stairs but he didn't want to so he summoned a school broom from the storage shed. He didn't want to wait for his to come. He hoped her brother didn't think he was trying to show off because he really just wanted to get down to them faster. The broom arrived and he jumped on, speeding down to where the two siblings stood, watching him. "Why'd you come here Adds? Don't you know me better than that?" he teased as he gave her a huge hug. He had to be a little discreet with her brother there, right? He pulled back from hugging her and turned to her big brother, extending his hand. "Hey, I'm Edmund," he said unnecessarily. He smiled, trying to keep his nerves hidden. @jill2 grey xavier slater

Grey was laughing and Addilyn couldn't help but smile widely. She enjoyed his laugh. It was something she had never really heard before. "I'm sure it did! With all the clothes you need to be able to choose from, and your hair..." Addi smirked at her brother. She enjoyed teasing him. Grey grinned at her and she shook her head. "Nope! No fifth degree needed! I think you'll get along, Grey. Don't worry." Addi grinned back.
After she had called for Edmund, Grey questioned her. "I have no idea why he's all the way up there, but I hope he doesn't have cold feet! You are kind of...tall and mysterious. Maybe you're intimidating." Addilyn laughed. Grey, intimidating? She didn't know if he was, she'd grown up with him. But Edmund on the other hand may think that way.
And here came Edmund, zooming down on a broom. Addi rose an eyebrow at him. What the? She giggled. Addilyn hugged him back and smiled brightly, her cheeks blushing pink. "Hi, E. This, is Grey. And Grey, this is Edmund."

The Monsters walk among us “I’m sure I can be intimidating if I want to.” He said jokingly as they watched Edmund leave his spot in the stands to head down to them. Grey only had a few more seconds to get everything out of his system before he had to face his little sister’s boyfriend. In a way, he had hoped that would never happen while he was still in school, but here they all were, and it didn’t look like that was going to change any time soon based on how Addi had described him. “Wait…tall and mysterious? Really? The again, everyone is taller than you, so I guess I could see that reasoning…” Grey trailed off as Edmund approached them on a…broom. Where had he seen this kid before? There was the chance it had been at some point over the last six years that he could have been hanging around Addi and Grey had just ignored him, but his face was too recognizable for that. As Edmund came down to where the two siblings stood, the boy went up and hugged Addi almost immediately, Grey couldn’t help but feel slightly awkward being there with them. The whole point was for him and Edmund to be introduced, but it still felt like he was an awkward third wheel. Then again, he always felt like extra baggage in large groups, it was the downside to trying to be on his own anywhere outside of the common room or the newspaper club room. Plus the kid made quite the entrance. There was no way that he wasn’t trying to impress Grey in some way. Maybe he knew about Grey’s obsession with watching Quidditch. After the two pulled apart from each other, Addi introduced Grey to Edmund, the other boy extending his hand out as he also introduced himself. Grey put his own out and shook Edmund’s hand. “Grey. Pleasure to meet you.” Now that he was closer to Edmund, he finally recognized him. He was one of the Slytherin Quidditch players as well. How had Addi forgotten to mention that? Grey’s slight obsession with knowing the majority of the statistics of the house teams had lead him to go to every match even if he had work to do. He usually used the pretense of going for the newspaper article that they always did on the matches, but he typically spent all of the time watching every single move that the players did. Unfortunately he had a bad habit of not knowing a lot of the players’ names despite them being on their jerseys. He had made the same blunder over the summer when running into Jamie Greyback. “Addi, you didn’t tell me he played on the Quidditch team with you. I probably would have known who you were talking about.” That was a white lie. He never would have known this kids name without someone telling him. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund nodded his head as Grey spoke, "It's nice to meet you as well." Edmund smiled, but he didn't know where to go from there. How was he supposed to find a way to connect with Addi's older brother? Forget connecting with him, what was Edmund supposed to say to him? He wasn't very good at starting conversations with anyone except for Addi. The thing was, Edmund did want Grey to approve of him. He knew how important family was to Addi, so he wanted to impress her older brother. But how? He looked over at Addi for a second, hoping she could give him some kind of a conversation starter or something. Then Grey started telling Addi that she should have told him that Edmund played Quidditch. Edmund smiled as he looked back at her brother, "You like Quidditch?" Edmund knew it wasn't really surprising, because most wizards and witches were obsessed with the game, but Grey just gave them something to talk about. Even so, he never realized someone might recognize him just because he played on the house team. "Addi never told me that," he mentioned with a casual smile. @jill2 grey xavier slater

Addilyn shook her head at her brother. "No no no! Don't be intimidating." She laughed softly. Addi wasn't sure how Edmund would react if Grey was all fatherly and protective. It would definitely be different for her. "Yes tall and mysterious. And not everyone is taller than me!" Addi made a playful pout face.
The boys shook hands and she grinned, happy that the first few words were going well. Now, just for the rest of the meeting to go well. Edmund had come down on a broom and she couldn't help but laugh. What a show off. She was then questioned as to why she hadn't told either of them about Quidditch and her eyes widened. Addi shrugged. "It slipped my mind!"

The Monsters walk among us “No, I’m pretty sure you’re shorter than most first years.” Grey whispered under his breath to his sister, jokingly of course. He hoped she didn’t take offense to the short comments, it was hard not to use them sometimes. Grey also wasn’t wrong about that, Addi, for some reason, was a lot shorter than he and Claire were. Then again, the two older siblings had hit their growth spurts at relatively young ages, making them stand out among the other students during their early years. Grey was afraid Addi would get swept away in a crowd if she wasn’t careful or attached to someone by the hip. Now he understood why muggles used leashes on their children. It was the weirdest trend, but apparently it worked. Edmund returned Grey’s handshake. He liked this boy already. Grey could tell he was nervous, for obvious reasons of course, and because no one was apparently supposed to know about the relationship he had with Addi. Well, she had let that one slip. It was a wonder why she disclosed it to Grey in the first place. Sure, he had asked her what was going on and he eventually managed to wiggle it out of her, but he felt like she had wanted to tell him. Grey wasn’t complaining at all. He had started to take the steps necessary to fix his relationships with his family, and it was best to start with Addi. She had never once given up on him, when she had ample opportunities to do so. “Keeping track of the statistics and scores of the house matches is kind of a hobby of mine.” That and he needed to write articles on them for the paper. That was just his pretext though. “Never got into playing it. Figure I’d be a pretty decent player though.” He had helped some of the other Gryffindor players practice over the years, as well as Kyle, who was always pushing him to pick up the sport. Grey preferred to watch, as odd as that sounded. He was positive he’d be a decent addition to the Gryffindor team if given the chance though. So far Grey only knew tidbits about Edmund. He played on the Quidditch team and had been friends with Addilyn since first year. Also Theodosia had a serious issue with him that had now resonated to Addi and Grey. He didn’t want to press that matter right now, since these were supposed to be happier times, not looking at the obvious bullying that was occurring in broad daylight. “Tell me a little about yourself Edmund. Addi has kept it a secret from me so far.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund knew his eyes widened in surprise at Grey's words. He'd never really played Quidditch? Granted, it took just as much attention to really keep up with statistics when it came to Quidditch, but he'd assumed that Addi's whole family liked to play and Grey just hadn't tried out for the team or something. How could he reply without sounding like he was trying to impress/be kind to her older brother. "Well if Addi's talent runs in the family, I'm sure you're right," he finally answered. Why was this so awkward for him? Then Grey asked him to tell about himself. Great. This was not one of Edmund's strengths. He preferred to get to know people and slowly share information about himself with them so he could see how they responded and not get overwhelmed. Apparently that wasn't going to work now. Maybe he should stick to the basics. Um, where did one start when talking about themselves? Oh, family. Ugh, family. Well, here goes, he thought to himself before beginning. "I have an older brother and two sisters, one older and one younger. You probably know my older brother Will, he was in Gryffindor but he was a year older than you, I think." Addi said that Grey was a seventh year right? Wait, he had to be. They were sixth years and he was definitely the older of the two. Oh good. "My sister Susan is your year, in Ravenclaw and my youngest sister Lucy is in Hufflepuff." Now what? Growing up? "We're muggleborns. Didn't know we had magic until after our dad died. Will was a year late starting, so he and Susan came together the first year. I came a year later. I never really fit in at home, but I do here." Why was he saying this? Grey wouldn't care. "A part of that is because of Addi. She's been my best friend since we met on the train. Another reason is flying. It just feels right, like a part of me. I like everything about Hogwarts and learning magic. This is home to me," he ended cheesily. Why did he say all that stuff? He didn't think Grey would be interested in any of it, but what else was he going to say? "What about you? I know you work with the paper, but that's about all."@jill2 grey xavier slater

Addilyn's mouth dropped open, and she let a laugh out. She knew she was short, but there were no eleven year old girls in this school that she was shorter than! Maybe the boys, but the girls didn't grow very fast, either. Claire and Grey overtowered Addi quite a bit, so she definitely didn't get the tall family gene.
As the boys began to talk, Addi grinned brightly. She rose an eyebrow as she listened to Grey speak about Quidditch Statistics. She actually was surprised that he had never tried out for the Gryffindor team. Addilyn would've loved if he had gotten on the team, which she knew he would have. She just wasn't sure what position he would've been. And then, Edmund answered Grey's question about himself. Addilyn was shocked to say the least, at how much Edmund had shared with him. Maybe it was because he was Addi's brother, she was not sure, but she smiled brightly at him. She was so proud.

The Monsters walk among us Edmund wasn’t wrong; Addi was an extremely talented Quidditch player. Grey had tried to get her to change her mind about being a Beater, based on her size, but that never ended up happening. It was hard not to laugh at her sometimes though. A little girl zooming around on a broom, smacking bludgers away like they were nothing. No wonder Edmund trusted her as much as he did. Grey would have been hesitant playing a match if someone as small as his sister was supposed to protect him from permanent brain damage. “I guess we’ll never know.” Grey said, shrugging his shoulders. “Now that I look back on it, I should have tried out. Would have made me more motivated.” And knocked him out for bed. He never would have survived as a Quidditch player on the sleep schedule he had managed the last few years. That would have been a recipe for disaster. He watched Addi closely as Edmund described his family and what he was all about. Grey noticed how happy she was around him. That was good. As long as she had Edmund, she wouldn’t have to depend on him as much as he had worried about. She needed someone else in her life to turn to if he or Claire weren’t there, so it was comforting to know that Edmund had slipped into that position even before the two were dating. “I remember Will, never really talked to him though.” Grey had spent the majority of his time messing around with Rai and Finn. He had barely talked to the other guys in his year, and he lived with them. As for Edmund’s sisters, the names didn’t ring a bell. He was bound to meet them eventually though, now that they all had younger siblings dating. Grey was surprised that Edmund brought up the fact that they were all muggleborn. That wasn’t exactly a common conversation topic among the Gryffindors. Slytherin though…he could only assume that could cause rifts in the house. The whole problem with Theodosia was starting to make more sense now. “What a way to find out about magic. At least all of you got to go here together though.” Grey could sympathize with Edmund on Hogwarts feeling like home. He agreed with that statement wholeheartedly, but was hesitant saying in front of Addi. Deciding to keep that little bit to himself, he listened as Edmund gave the stereotypical response most muggleborns had to Hogwarts: Quidditch and magic. It was hard for someone like Grey to understand what that felt like, since he had grown up with both. Sometimes Grey wished he was the same, living the beginning of his life free of magic, only to be thrown into the middle of it the day he turned eleven. At the same time, he was happy that muggleborns grew to love both things as much as the rest of the magical world did. They were the little things that helped unify everyone. Grey pondered Edmund’s question about what he did. There really wasn’t much that he did that Edmund didn’t already know about. This would be difficult. “Yeah the paper is kind of like a child to me. Constantly having to deal with it, but at the same time watching it grow into something new. It’s hard to explain without being there. Other than that, I research a lot of Quidditch, and that’s pretty much it. Rather boring life.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund responded almost instinctively when Grey mentioned he remembered Will. "That might be for the better, Will has a very ... strong personality." He winced inside. What made him say that? Of course, Addi knew about his problems with his older brother, but he didn't need to share that with someone who was basically a complete stranger. He shrugged, pretending like he'd meant to say that all along. "We don't get along too well, actually." Well as long as he's sharing private information, he might as well do it right. He nodded at Grey's comment about coming to school together. "Yeah, it would have been difficult if some of us got the letter and others not," he admitted. Like his family needed more reasons to argue, those things between them were definitely getting better. This last summer was one of the best he'd had, honestly. He and Will hardly fought at all. He glanced over at Addi, relieved when she was grinning. He was nervous that maybe he was doing it all wrong, somehow. He wanted to get along with Grey in front of her, for her to see it. He gave her a small wink, showing he hadn't forgotten her, even though he was more focused on her brother. Edmund raised an eyebrow with interest. Being in charge of the paper didn't sound boring. It sounded interesting, and definitely something that would take a lot of time and effort. "I think it sounds interesting. I couldn't imagine being in charge of something that requires so much attention. You do it really well," he commented. Edmund wasn't really one for reading the paper, but he looked at it from time to time. He might look through it more now that he knew who put so much effort into it. Still, he was never really interested in news. grey xavier slater @jill2

Laughing, Addi shook her head at Grey. He would have been fantastic at Quidditch, she knew it. And maybe if he had tried out for the team, their parents would've been more lenient with him. Addilyn felt like that was why they were that way with her; school was important to her, and she passed all of her classes, but she wasn't so involved with grades like Claire was. Addi was also on the Frog Choir, so maybe that made a difference as well. She wasn't too sure. However, Addilyn thought Grey would make a great seeker. With the way he watches the games and can keep track of everything all at once, he'd be able to find a snitch in no time. It stinks that he hadn't tried out, a little sibling rivalry was always fun.
As the boys spoke about their personal and home life, Addilyn just kind of sat there and listened. She had heard all of this multiple times before, but listening to them speak to one another for the first time, it sounded different. Maybe it was because they were boys, and their 'status' to Addi was so different. The whole, respect your elders, or, in this instance, respect your girlfriend's older brother. Her eyes went from Grey to Edmund, then back to Grey. Addi truly wondered if they'd ever become close, she really hoped so. Edmund didn't have such a great relationship with his older brother, and Grey didn't even have a brother. It was like the perfect opportunity for them to relate. As she glanced at Ed, she saw him wink and she smiled at him, her cheeks flushed pink.
"Oh, Grey stop it. Your life is not boring. Your life is filled with stuff, interesting stuff. And you're incredibly smart, don't be so modest." Addilyn smiled at her brother. She knew a compliment here and there could help every so often, especially with the things he had just recently shared with her. Addi was going to try more to make sure Grey knew how important he was; and you know what was funny? As she thought that, she realized how similar Grey and Edmund really are.

The Monsters walk among us Even though Edmund’s home life was completely different than Grey’s, it seemed like they were extremely similar when it came to older siblings. Grey didn’t need to know anything about Will, the way Edmund explained their relationship was more than enough to tell him what he needed to know. “Well I guess that’s two of us that don’t get along with our older siblings.” He forced out a laugh. Now wasn’t the time to talk bad about Claire. She had never really done anything too terrible to Grey, just pushed him to do better. He didn’t need to be pushed. Taking his time and moving along at his own pace was all he wanted. Claire and their parents didn’t think so though. There was always something about the oldest siblings. Grey chalked it up to the fact that they probably felt it was necessary to lead by example. Well, Claire had done a damn good job on what not to do to be annoying. “Thanks. It’s strange though. The paper, as large as it is sometimes, is pretty fluid. Usually there’s a constant amount of work to be done, other times nothing. But the minute we let up, we get swarmed with work. I guess it builds a good sense of responsibility and work ethic though.” Grey shrugged. It hadn’t helped him finish school work deadlines at all, but he would never miss one for the paper as long as he lived. There was too much riding on it to be lazy. Funny how that made more of an impact on his life than going to a school for magic did. Grey watched as Edmund turned and winked at Addi. Did he really think Grey wouldn’t see that? He tried to play it off like he hadn’t, but couldn’t help laughing under his breath. This kid was something else. Grey could see how Addi thought he was a pretty amazing person. Turning to his sister, he followed up on her statement. “But it is. All I do is work for the paper, school work, go to the occasional Quidditch match, and then try to sleep. Good thing we have the Triwizard Tournament this year. That’ll make things interesting.” He stopped to think about Addi’s comment about him being smart. Sure, he had done well the past few years because he finally applied himself. They weren’t great though. Just good enough at most. “My grades are only decent because mum, dad, and Claire wanted them to be. Wish I had done all of that for myself, not for them. It’s too late now, but I can finish off this year on my own terms and then move on.” He hoped that wasn’t too harsh, especially in front of Edmund. He knew that Addi was well aware of what he thought about the rest of their family. “Sorry. This wasn’t the time or place for that.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
