John watch the red head, a look of deep interest in his eyes. "It's a he..." he said slowly, trying to figure out what she would say next. Often times, it wasn't hard to guess what a woman would say next. John found many to be very predictable, especially with a few drinks in them. Perhaps that was why he refused to settle down in one spot with one, and just continued to partake in one night stands. John couldn't help but look back at Isis as she looked at him, no doubt studying him. "A Grey Hawk Owl of some kind... possibly Northern?"
The Auror made no secret of his surprise. His mouth fell slightly open as he looked at red head, clearly impressed. "Y-yes," he nodded, completely taken off guard by her spot on guess. John regained his composure. "Tex is his name," he said proudly. Tex had always been a loyal owl. He was quite owl, but the owl had yet to fail John once.
John moved his head from side to side for a moment, debating telling Isis. Many people took his being an Auror differently. Some were impressed, others stopped talking to him completely (they were usually the ones he ended up keeping an extra eye on.) So John had not made it a habit of telling people of his occupation. Isis, however, worked in the Ministry. He figured she had no reason to react differently. She didn't strike him as the type to react differently, anyway. She seemed like an honest woman. That was hard to find these days, John found.
"Auror office," he finally said, meeting her eyes. John wasn't going to admit to it, but this would be the defining moment. Would she run the other direction? Treat him differently, like he was on a pedastal? Or would she react no differently? John hoped for the latter silently as he watched Isis, studying her facial expressions for signs of a reaction.

Isis was happy when he showed surprise. She had been getting really good at guessing peoples owls based on the personality and visual aspects about that person. It was a fun little game she liked to play and she had been developing it as a very good skill. "Aw, how sweet. You and Tex over at the bachelor pad," she laughed, "Is that what it's called? Bachelor pad?" she laughed. She had been there once before, but she didn't remember that much other than the bedroom. Not even the bed room, just the bed in general. Possibly the couch... she pursed her lips together trying not to laugh at her thought process. "I mean, I guess it isn't only for men. Is it?" She laughed as she made a face with her mouth in an 'O' shape, as if daring him to laugh as well.
Isis watched him as he seemed to be considering whether or not to answer her question. This just made her more intrigued. She tried to guess in her mind with the few seconds she had. Maybe... an obliviator? That was a tough profession. Or perhaps, a reporter? That would make him hard to talk to, and he seemed far to calm for that. She wasn't sure what to guess next when he finally admitted it, "Auror office". Her eyes slowly narrowed as her lips curled into a half smile. "Do you mean to tell me, that I had a one night stand with a hero?" she tried to keep the act up but starting laughing after only a few seconds. "I'm only kidding!" she laughed even more, "it suits you though. Makes sense why you're so mysterious."
She really was impressed that he worked as an auror, it was an occupation she could respect. It really told her a little more about his character. He had to be hard working, and at least she knew he wasn't a big fan of dark magic. Unless he was a dark wizard in disguise as an auror, but she highly doubted that. Hey, at least the guy had a job, that was saying a lot these days. Especially since so many people Isis stumbled into over the weekends had spent the whole week there as well. Only they didn't have a job to go to in the morning. She stopped walking, completely this time and turned to face him, "John, why don't we go get a coffee or something?" Her offer was in a casual tone, but she really was excited to talk to him more. Not only because of his looks, his job and their compatibility, but because he looked like someone who needed a break every once in a while. And maybe he didn't get it.

John couldn't help but roll his eyes a little playfully at the red head's comment. "Yes, our house is indeed the Bachler pad," he nodded, chuckling. It was kind of true. Aside from when John would have the occasional lady over, it was just Tex and himself. Or Rob, if he was over for a while. Rob was probably John's most regular guest, as they were best friends. "I mean, I guess it isn't only for men. Is it?" John raised an eyebrow at Isis, holding back a chuckle. He nodded, however, smiling. "I guess that is true," he admitted. It was odd to him how... easy he was finding it to be to interact with Isis.
John's first reaction to Isis' words made him visibly cringe, but when she started to laugh he eased up and another small smile even made itself known. He looked at her, watching as she laughed. "Mysterious, huh?" He repeated, cross his arms. "So you think I'm mysterious?" He asked her, raising an eyebrow at her in a suggestive and flirty sort of way. Women never came out right and told them what they thought of him. The fact that Isis did made John even more intrigued with her.
When Isis stopped walking entirely, John instantly stopped as well. He turned to face her just as she did him. "John, why don't we go get a coffee or something?" The Auror looked at the red head, studying her facial expressions a moment. John not only never interacted with his past flings, but he hardly ever went out for coffee. He liked the caffeinated drink, of course. What functioning adult didn't? But no one had truly ever offered to get some with him. (Rob didn't count, mainly because they were always indulging in alcohol.) After a moment of silently watching her, a little smile appeared. "I'd like that," he said simply, nodding at Isis.

As John rolled his eyes Isis let more laughter roll freely from her lips. She received her wanted reaction; a chuckle and a smile. She liked him better when he smiled, and liked being able to help him to that. ”I’m glad you can admit that,” she smirked, ”lying to me about the presence of women at your pad well... that wouldn’t make a lot of sense, now would it?” She bit her lip, holding back another laugh. She couldn’t help herself. His reactions were too priceless and, she’d admit it, adorable.
When he cringed she held back another laugh, literally putting a hand over her mouth this time. When she admitted that it was a joke he was able to smile again. She was glad he didn’t take her seriously anyway, like some people would do. She nodded as he crossed his arms and questioned her mysterious verdict of him. He was flirting, and she liked it. She nodded rapidly and pursed her lips, ”Oh yeah, completely mysterious. I’d like to unwrap you like a tootsie pop and find out what’s at your center.” She winked. Leave it to Isis to flirt in the corniest, cheesiest and most suggestive way possible.
She watched as he assessed the offer of coffee and smiled brightly when he agreed, lovely. Nephri will be fine waiting outside. I think there is a place just around the next bend.” She gestured forward and continued to walk. Truthfully, she didn’t even notice the way he studied her reactions and facial expressions. To Isis this was just another day shopping at Diagon Alley, with a lucky moment of running into an interesting coffee mate. Isis often didn’t think ahead to what more could happen with a man, she was very involved in living in the moment. And this particular moment was enjoyable to her, and that’s what mattered.

Isis seemed to be very blunt. John was finding himself admiring that quality about her. The fact that she made no effort to hide her laughter was interesting to John. Many women often tried to flirtatiously giggle at him when he was being funny and the way those women laughed was just odd to John. When Isis laughed it seemed genuine, and full. But John had already pieced together that Isis wasn't at all like other women. John shook his head again, letting out another chuckle.
Isis laughed again, putting her hand over her mouth. "Woah," John actually thought to himself. It had hit him nearly like a ton of bricks. The way that the red head tried to mask her laughter without really masking her laughter was actually quite cute to John. Cute, though? John hardly thought grown women were cute. He was normally sleeping with women he thought to be extremely attractive and sexy, so to speak. While he did find Isis to be very attractive, he had never before thought of or looked at a woman to the extent to realize she was cute.
"I’d like to unwrap you like a tootsie pop and find out what’s at your center.” It was even attractive when she winked. Now it was John's turn to crack some jokes. "Well, dear," he began in a cavalier sort of tone, crossing his arms in front of his chest this time. "One would say you really already have." He let that comment stir for just a moment before he returned a wink and the right corner of his mouth curved into a smile.
Something inside John felt different. As he walked with the red head to the coffee shop, he took his eyes off of her just to watch the surroundings ahead of him. He tried to assess his own emotions that he was currently feeling. Something in his chest. He couldn't truly recall such a feeling other than when he had dived head first on a broom toward the ground only to pull up at the last second. However, John had had that sort of feeling enough to know that they were... butterflies.

"Well, dear, One would say you really already have." Isis licked her lips once and bit her lip as he spoke. Isis felt a tickle in the bottom of her stomach, like she had just finished a long run with the dogs and was arriving at some new destination they had never found before. She often found herself out of breath, and stumbling into some beautiful glen or meadow that she hadn't stumbled on before. Her stomach would have such a sensation of joy, curiosity, wonder and amazement that she had to contain her stomach heart from jumping out of her throat. She felt that way right now, as John teased and laughed with her. As the corner of his mouth started to curve into a smile, and he winked as well, she let another laugh escape her. Sure, Isis always loved to laugh, but this was different. This was more than the initial lustful attraction she had felt for John, this was emotional.
"Well, if you're still such a mystery to me," she suddenly stopped and reached forward to grab the collar of his shirt, pulling herself close to him, her entire body leaning up against his, "maybe I didn't try hard enough?" She whispered with a mischievous little grin. She let go of him after a moment as if nothing had happened as they approached the coffee shop. She tied Nephri up in front of it and turned to face John.
"Well, aren't you coming?" she asked innocently. She sure did love teasing him, as she often did with guys. But John was so much easier to tease, but harder as well. Easier because she felt they had a good flow between the two of them within a conversation, but harder because her stomach and heart pounding kept begging for more. Almost as if flirting with this man was something that she needed to live, like water or food. She knew that thought was silly, but she couldn't shake the feeling that her stomach was trying to tell her something. Trying to let her know that this moment wasn't only met for today, or for that night. No, she needed to keep him around for a little while longer. Otherwise her hunger would never be satisfied.

It was odd that John found himself staring at the red head with a small smile as she licked her lip and bit it once. Her mood was turning out to be contagious, for when she laughed once again John found himself actually chuckling along with her. This was extremely unusual for John Cain and he briefly found himself thanking Merlin that his best mate, Rob Hudson, was not there to see him with Isis, for the harassing and torment would have been endless. But then... a little part of John felt like he wouldn't even care if he was being harassed about Isis.
Isis completely caught John off guard suddenly when she grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him forward to her. He felt her body against his and it was unusual... familiar, that was for sure... but also nice. When the red head let go of him and went to tie her dog up, John couldn't help but stare after her in amazement. His mouth was slightly agape and his eyebrows were both raised in surprise. When she turned back to face him he shook his head to regain his composure and then nodded.
For some reason, her teasing was getting to John. The women usually didn't do a lot of the teasing. It usually was just drink, banter, drink, more banter, then eventually they were in John's apartment. The rest was always history. But with Isis, obviously things were very different. John felt almost a gravitational pull toward this woman. As if a rope was connected to each of their waists and John had to follow wherever she went. It was odd, but he found himself liking it. And that was even more odd.

Isis thoroughly enjoyed the look on Johns face after her little moment. He was probably the guy she had the most fun teasing ever, because he seemed so genuinely surprised and in awe by her behavior. She couldn't help but chuckle under her breath and allow the tingling in her stomach to take over for a moment. She had earned that, giving the surprised eyebrows he had just raised about four feet above his head.
When he regained his composure and nodded, Isis stepped inside the coffee shop, getting in line to order. Wizards and Witches of all kinds were there, most in small groups or trios discussing important business. Isis didn't really spend time with friends save the weekend, because she was too busy spending time with friends of a more furry or scaly nature. Especially since moving to Britain, she hadn't really done much socializing. Now here she was, with John, about to grab a cup of coffee. Needless to say she was excited, she needed to make some friends in this country. John was proving to be one of them.
She read over the menu and leaned towards him, bumping his shoulder with hers, "My goodness, I'm just in the mood for everything. What's your usual?" She asked him. Truthfully she loved all flavors and wasn't picky, but she wanted to see what Johns stance on coffee was. You could tell a lot about a person by the type of coffee they drink.

John followed the red head inside of the coffee shop. The wizard had almost forgotten how coffee shops had that special smell to them. Coffee, hazelnut, and even chocolate. It was a little crowded for John's taste, as when he pictured coffee shops he pictured a quaint and quiet little place where one would go to enjoy a nice coffee and maybe a book. But John didn't mind the crowd today, as he would be grabbing some coffee but he would be speaking to this attractive little red head instead of reading.
John glanced down at the red head as she leaned toward him and bumped her shoulder up against his own. He let a crooked smile appear on his face as she spoke. "Well," he stuck his hands back into his pockets as he read over the menu. John wasn't a big fancy drink person. Just give him his firewhiskey at a pub and he would be set. With coffee, he was no different. He gave a little shrug and let his head tilt to the side.
Finally, John looked sideways at Isis. "You're going to find me awfully boring," he admitted. "But I like my coffee black," he gave another little shrug. Isis definitely didn't strike him as the type to enjoy black coffee, but John was rather fond of it.

As John slipped his hands into his pockets, Isis slipped her arm through his and kept looking at the menu. She wasn't at all surprised when he mentioned his taste for black coffee. She shook her head and laughed, looking up at him, "why am I not surprised?" She chuckled again as she glanced back at the menu. As soon as she decided what she wanted she pulled him up to the counter with her and smiled at the witch behind it who was running the cash register and taking the orders. "Hi! These two are on me, one black and one macchiato with a hot of hazelnut please, plenty of whipped cream," she winked at John as she paid for the drinks.
The two walked over to the waiting place as the staff ran the machines and made the room smell even more dreamy. Isis slipped her arm out of Johns in order to lean sideways to look out the window, just to make sure Nephri was okay. The dog was as happy as ever just hanging out and smiling at people. Isis chuckled and stood up straight again, glancing at John with a smile. "So, John, got any family nearby?" a strange question, but a typical conversation starter. However, she could have come up with a better one considering the fact that she didn't have any family nearby at all. Oh well.

When Isis slipped her arm through his own, John automatically looked down to see their arms interlocked. If John would have been easy to blush, he would have. But fortunately, it was very hard for John to ever turn red. Instead, he raised an eyebrow but he wasn't at all upset that she had done so. More surprised, than anything. He didn't pull away, either. He actually kind of liked it.
John wrinkled his face a bit. "Why does that not surprise you, Ms. Isis?" He asked, feigning shock. He couldn't help but let a smile break through, however. It was weird. John was finding it really hard to not smile around this red head. Like her own laughter and smiles were contagious. It was refreshing. He didn't even mind when she pulled him up to the counter with her. He raised his eyes as she ordered her own drink, thinking he could never have a drink with whipped cream but somehow liked that she could. When she said they were on her, however, he almost went to protest. But something told him it was best to not argue with this red headed Irish woman.
The Auror followed the red head over to wait for the drinks. When she slipped her arm out of his, a part of him wish she hadn't - but he stopped himself from thinking that. He was having many unusual and new thoughts about this woman and it was getting to be more and more odd to him. He couldn't help but watch her as she looked to check on her dog, and when she straightened herself back up, he looked away as if he had not been watching her. He turned to her once again when she asked about his family.
John shrugged. "My parents live out in the country, being retired and all," he began, looking up to watch the baristas make their drinks. "But my brother works in the Ministry as well. We just... aren't very close." He said a little stiffly. John held no ill feelings toward his brother, that was just how it was. Paul was nearly ten years older than John, so they had hardly even grown up together. He looked back at Isis. "What 'bout you, Red?" He asked, a little smirk playing at his lips for the nickname he had just given her.

"Because, it's dark and mysterious, remember?" she winked, chuckling. The truth was it didn't shock her because he seemed like the kind of man who liked to keep it simple. If he wasn't he wouldn't go around having one night stands, would he? Relationships made things complicated. Granted, Isis also liked things simple but she preferred bursts of flavor within the simplicity. Which is probably why her night with John stood out so much in her mind. Not to mention this happenstance meeting, life couldn't get much sweeter than that. Running into old aqcuiantences was something that Isis lives for, she loved playing catch up. But even better than that was getting to know someone new, like John.
As the drinks were finishing up Isis watched as the whipped cream was stacked on top of hers. She clapped her hands together excitedly then turned to John as he answered her question. A brother? Now that sounded interesting. "Oooh, you aren't close? Why not? Is he handsome?" she smirked, chuckling a little as she did so. Of course, she'd never purposefully flirt with Johns own brother, especially now that her and John were having an actual conversation. She reached forward and smacked his arm as he said the nickname, "well, that's a new one." She rolled her eyes. She had most certainly been called that before, it kind of came with the air. Though, more-so in the UK than in Ireland.
"My parents both still live in Ireland. My father is retired but he was in the ministry, my mother never worked," she sighed. She really loved her adorable elderly parents, but it was nice to be out on her own now. Being an only child, she was sure that was hard on the poor dears. Her face drifted into a pout as she thought of it.

John had to admit, he never would have thought Isis to be so captivating. Sure, he thought her to be very attractive when they met that night at the bar, but that was based completely on physical attraction and a longing for getting some. But her personality was turning out to be... more than captivating. They had only been talking for a short while now and she already had him practically in the palm of her hand. And if Isis knew just how rare that was, she best keep a hold on it.
John couldn't help but look at Isis when she clapped her hands together. He followed her eyes to the cup of coffee that was getting whipped cream put onto it. He looked back at her and couldn't help but smile humorously. She was quite the peculiar gal. John pondered for a moment. He didn't envy his brother at all, so he thought he might as well give Isis a taste of her own humor. "Oh, very. Best looking man I've ever met," he said, his tone loaded with playful sarcasm. When the red head smacked his arm, John let a grin appear as he looked down at her. He really couldn't resist calling her the oh-so-typical red headed nickname.
As Isis spoke of her own parents, John watched her intently, accidentally studying her. "The Ministry?" He repeated. Silently, John wondered if their paths may have crossed or if Isis' father knew his own. He was brought out of his thoughts, however, when he noticed the look on Isis' face. She appeared to be pouting. "Oh, why the long face now, Red?" He said with a smile and joking tone, placing his hand on her back as if to comfort her.

Isis raised an eyebrow at his obviously sarcastic comment about his brother. ”Truthfully?” she smirked, ”perhaps you should swing him by the Hogs Head Halloween party and put in a good word for me,” she was only joking, of course, but she still bit her lip back and shrugged her shoulders a little. Kind of a-oh no! Did I do a bad thing?-face.
Their coffees were set on the counter and the barista called out the order. Isis stepped over, thanked the workers, and retrieved them. She held a hand out with Johns and smiled. ”One dark and mysterious brew right up, Mr. Cain,” she said with a slight chuckle.
As he grinned at her, Isis couldn’t help but think that it was the most sincere smile she had seen from him yet. Well, a sincerely amused and almost captivated smile. She let herself laugh a little more, before nodded at his repetition of her father’s vocation. ”Yes, yes. He was very involved in politics. Still would be if it wasn’t for the fact that he hates politicians.” She chuckled as she gestured to a table nearby and started to walk towards it. ”He’s a bit radical, my father. His opinions are very unpopular, but he is quite passionate about them.” That was one of the things her father and her hand in common.
She shrugged at the mention of her long face and smiled, a little sadly. Even though he was playing around with the nickname and with the slang, she found his hand on her back to be comforting indeed. ”Oh, I just worry about them, my parents,” she spoke without a trace of humor in her voice, ”I’m an only child and I moved so far away, I’m sure it is hard on them.”

John looked down at the red head just in time to catch the look she was giving him. He raised an eyebrow at her and a corner of his mouth curled up in a little smirk. "You sure 'bout that? 'Cause while he is good looking, he is certainly no John Cain," he gestured to himself with a wider smirk now as he raised his eyebrows suggestively at Isis.
As Isis held out the coffee to him, John accepted it with a little smile. He winked at her as he played up to the "mysterious" name calling and took a dramatically "mysterious" sip of his coffee. As he pulled the cup away from his mouth, he let a little chuckle escape his lips.
John followed Isis to the table as he listened intently to her talk about her father. John smiled at this as he took a seat at the table and held up his coffee mug as if to toast. "Sounds like my kind of man, your father," he said fondly. While John was an Auror and worked at the Ministry himself, he was not a fan of the new political ways that the Ministry had currently taken up. But that was a whole other subject John did not want to go into at all.
At her tone, John's face went a little blank. He was never one for showing much emotion, but... something in Isis was beginning to bring it out of him. A sympathetic look crossed his face as he looked at her. He took a moment to think of what to say next. "I'm sure they're happy for you, though," he said finally. What parent couldn't be proud of their daughter who was out living on her own and maintaining a stable job at the Ministry no less?
