Lily was ECSTATIC for today. She was invited to go out to work with her uncle Charlie and he worked with dragons. DRAGONS. She was practically drunk on delight as she went to his door early in the morning to meet him. She didn't bother knocking, that wasn't in her nature. Plus, this was family. She stepped into the doorway and called out, "uncle Charliiiieee?" She did speak a LITTLE softly then she wanted to in order to sort of attempt not to wake anyone still sleeping, but she really didn't care. Lily loved her big family and felt close to the majority of them. She wasn't like the rest of them in that they'd do anything for each other and be all lovey dovey, but she still liked to take advantage of how good her relationships were. The only one she really didn't speak to was Ondina and that was because the girl had to be taken care of carefully due to her asthma and Lily didn't not like careful. They'd just grown to not be friends, and Lily didn't mind that. Xavier was like her flirty cousin, for lack of a better term. He was a snobby little prick but they liked to just joke around and have a good time when together. She always made it a point to drag him aside and embarrass him in front of his friends. As for Harper, who couldn't love that girl!? charlie marie weekly

S omehow, Charlie had managed to pull some strings with his higher-ups and get a dragon all on his own for a few hours. He had been vying for this opportunity for years, and it seemed like they finally understood how skilled he was with the giant beasts. Of course there would be other dragonologists and high-level security nearby in case anything went wrong. Dragons were wild animals, and extremely dangerous ones at that. Charlie hadn’t spent all those years away from his family studying them just for fun. There needed to be a few witches and wizards out there that knew how to take a dragon down, especially if they escaped into muggle territory. That would be beyond disastrous.
The goal of this outing that Charlie had arranged was to bring his children, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews, out to see a dragon up close. Unfortunately, the only one that got clearance from his siblings and wanted to go was Lily. Charlie knew Harry wouldn’t have a problem with that for some reason. It was a little disheartening that his own children had no interest in dragons like he did. Or maybe they were just sick of seeing them. He had brought quite a few home when they were really little, much to his wife’s protests and death glares. Nothing bad ever happened, of course, and he had always seen it as one of the better ways to immerse Ondina with the outdoors without her actually having to leave the safety of her protective bubble.
Checking his watch to see when Lily was supposed to arrive, Charlie took a final sip of his coffee, staring into the empty mug with a slight frown on his face. It was a shame that such a good cup of coffee was gone. As he turned to place it in the kitchen, he heard the front door click open and a semi-loud voice call out his name. Charlie had trouble stifling his laugh, because that was just like Lily. He could tell she was trying to be quiet, but that just wasn’t in her nature, even if she tried her hardest. “Come on in Lily. I’m in the kitchen,” he called back. There were a few things he needed to outline before they left: mostly covering their transportation methods as well as general safety to follow around the dragon. He was rather hesitant bringing Lily along on his own, she was a handful after all. But he had always said that an unruly, out of control child was nothing compared to dragons.

Lily heard her uncle's voice from the kitchen and squealed, rushing through the sitting room to get to him. She jumped over a couch on the way and burst into the kitchen, seamlessly sliding into the chair across from him. "Uncle Charlie, hi! Is that coffee? I don't drink coffee mum says coffee isn't good for me, for obvious reasons, I mean come on like I need coffee," she laughed, which was the only break from the talking he was going to get for a moment, "I'm so excited I can't wait to go with you I bet every day is so exciting have you ever taken any of your others nieces or nephews out with you? I bet Lucy might like it but she'd sit there pretending she didn't the whole time-" finally, she took a breath. charlie marie weekly

H e tried to ignore the fact that Lily had basically entered his home at Mach speed and barreled over the couch that separated the front entrance and the kitchen from each other. Charlie knew too well that telling her to slow down was an invitation to go much, much faster, and that was the last thing he needed today. As long as she stayed at her normal level of hyperactivity, he could wrangle her in, most likely with something shiny or out of the ordinary. He had a lot of both of those things. Tornado-Lily landed on a chair in the kitchen and immediately begged for coffee. Was that actually safe to do? Even she said that Ginny didn’t let her have it, obviously for good reason. He had always been amazed that his sister had been able to keep Lily under control. She was nightmarishly crazy, and there was no explanation where she had gotten all of it from. Charlie thought it over for a few seconds and then reached into the cabinet where they kept their coffee mugs. Hopefully this wasn’t a mistake in the making. Tentatively pouring coffee into the mug, Charlie made sure to only fill it halfway. “Here you go. Too much and you’ll be chasing the dragon in circles. And we can’t have that.”
Charlie took a seat across from his niece and did his best to think of a way to approach the safety portion of their excursion. He had to do it now, before the coffee hit her system. After that, there was no telling what was going to happen to Lily. “I can tell.” Charlie laughed as Lily told him she was excited. It was kind of hard to miss that. He’d place a bet that almost anyone would be excited to see a dragon for the first time. “Not as far as I know,” he answered to her question about any of his other nieces and nephews seeing a dragon with him. “Only Harper, Ondina, and Xavier have. And those were only baby dragons. You get to see a fully grown one.” A Common Welsh Green to be exact. They were one of the few native British breeds, so it was a little easier manage than the ones he kept in Romania.
“Before we go though, there’s a few things we need to establish. Rules, pretty much. They’re not fun to follow, I know, but if you want to go home tonight with all your body parts still attached and with a full head of hair, then you’ll need to pay attention.” Charlie paused for a few seconds to make sure Lily was paying attention before continuing. “First of all, you need to make sure you stay near me at all times unless I say otherwise. There’s other handlers that will be nearby in case something happens, in which case, a stunning spell to the face is probably your best chance of getting away from it relatively fast.” One of the key components of taming dragons and being able to move them effectively was the use of really strong stun spells. Baby dragons were simple for that reason, because it usually only took one or two stun spells to put them down long enough to move. Fully grown ones though…they were a different story. A stun spell would merely annoy it for a few precious seconds.
“Second, keep away from the dragon unless I say we can go near it. It’s a Common Welsh Green, which is one of the least temperamental breeds, but it’s still a dragon. If you ever want to hear more about Common Welsh Greens, ask your Aunt Fleur. She fought one in the Triwizard Tournament.” Charlie had kind of hoped this dragon was the same one, but unfortunately he hadn’t been able to pull that off. “And finally, whatever you do, don’t be too loud. We’ll be a good distance away at first, but loud noises will catch its attention. The last thing we want is a grown dragon flying at us while we’re on foot. Understood?” He semi-hoped that wasn’t too much information for Lily to absorb at once.

Her Uncle offered her a half cup of coffee and she looked at it with wide eyes for a second before pulling it to her and holding the warm mug in her hands, "oh, I'm sure I'll be doing that anyway," she laughed, "Nah, I'm kidding. I don't want to lost an arm! Or my hair!" she giggled. He went on to sit back down and started to answer her other questions from her long rant. She was surprised that he had actually understood a single thing that she said, due to her talking so fast. She nodded, "awe, Xavey. I'm sure he had a rad time of it," she chuckled. She didn't really believe that Xav would really enjoy something like that but, then again, there were very few things that Xav did enjoy! Her and he were incredibly close, though, so she figured she'd have to ask him about that the next time she saw him. "I'm sure it's hard to take too many guests at a time, right?" she assumed. She knew the rules would come and she lifted the coffee to her lips taking tiny slow sips as he went on. Mostly she did this to shut herself up so that she could listen, but her leg was still bouncing like crazy under the table. She liked her body parts and her hair, so she tried her best to pay attention. Okay, stay near uncle Charlie. got it. Stun dragon to the face if in trouble but generally just leave that to the professionals. Got it. Stay away from the dragons unless they say it's okay. Got it. That was the hard part. Ask Aunt Fleur bla bla tournament nonsense. Don't be too loud. Lily's leg stopped moving at that and she clamped her mouth shut. That was definetely going to be the hardest part of this entire excursion. When he asked if she understood he noded, lifting a hand to salute, and finally opening her mouth. "I will stay by you at all times and be quiet. Yes. I think I can do this." She didn't want to lose her chances to see the dragon, so she attempted to hold perfectly still. charlie marie weekly

C harlie chuckled softly as Lily eagerly took the coffee mug from him. This was a mistake, he knew that, but by giving her something she wanted, maybe, just maybe, there was a glimmer of hope that she would pay attention to his rules for a few minutes. If he was really lucky, she’d probably follow at least one of them. Despite having joked about her chasing the dragon around, it seemed like she was dead serious at first. It was so hard to understand this one. Why were children so difficult sometimes? “Xavier was…fine with them. You know how he is, it’s kind of hard to get things out of him sometimes. Harper and Ondina loved it though, Ondina especially because it didn’t have hair, and all that.” He knew Harper would always be overjoyed to see a dragon, unless something muggle related caught her attention first, and Ondina had really tried hard to not show her excitement about it. As far as Charlie knew, that was one of the first animals she had been able to have contact with that didn’t cause her to have asthma attacks. They still had to be careful with her getting too excited because that would cause it too, but he knew she had liked it nonetheless.
“I like working in larger groups, so having a few more people would have been nice.” Plus it would have maybe provided Charlie with some useful information on whether or not any of his children or nieces or nephews would follow in his footsteps. Instead he got Lily, and while that was great, another pair of hands to hold her down would have been helpful. How on earth Ginny let her daughter do this was beyond him. Just to be safe, he wouldn’t bring it up the next time he saw his sister, in case she actually didn’t know about it. Yeah, that sounded like a good idea.
After giving his spiel about the rules, Charlie finished off his coffee and watched Lily process everything he had just said. It looked like, at least from his perspective, like she had gotten most of it. He thought about having her repeat it back to him, but that would make it feel like she was a little kid. While technically she was still, he wanted to show her that being treated like an adult garnered mutual respect; something that she probably didn’t process in her normal daily routine. He couldn’t help not laughing at her as she saluted him, promising not to leave his side or be loud. “I think you can too. Because I want to be home for dinner tonight, as I’m sure you do too.” Setting his empty coffee mug next to the sink and motioning for Lily to do the same thing, Charlie continued. “Ever apparated with your mum or dad? That’s how we’re going to get to the location with the dragon. Let me know when you’re ready and we’ll be off.”
(OOC: If you want to put in them apparating to the location, that's perfectly fine with me xD)

He talked about xavier and how he was fine with them, but how it was hard to get things out of the boy. Lily knew that it was hard for most people, even if it was a little easier for her. Awe, so Charlie liked large groups, then? In that case Lily might have to ask about bringing Adrian sometime... though, that might not go over well. "Awe, well, I'm glad they at least went with you. That's always a good sign. As for the larger groups, I agree!" Lily really liked groups of all sizes, but the larger ones usually (hopefully) meant that they would be doing something extra exciting and all work together. Lily wasn't really a team player, but she didn't mind playing for the team when needed. She did play Quidditch, after all!
Lily smiled proudly when Charlie agreed that she could do this. She nodded at the thought of dinner. Though, she hadn't really thought about coming back. She would just follow his lead. She nodded at his next question, "yeah, mum's apparated with me before," she stood up excitedly, ready to get on the move. "Ready!" she reached out and took his arm and soon they were off with the side along apparation.
Lily actually wasn't too fond of the apparating feeling, not that she would ever admit that. She knew she'd be learning in at school soon and would have to suck it up, but it wasn't that big of a deal. She always got past her barriers. Always.

A s Lily jumped to attention, ready to go, Charlie held his arm out. He wasn’t extremely fond of bringing others along while apparating, especially if they hadn’t passed the test on their own yet, but sometimes it was necessary. Getting a clear picture in his head of the location, he prepared for the magical leap through space and time. Lily grabbed onto his arm at some point and yelled that she was ready. Under full concentration, they blinked out of his kitchen in less than a millisecond. Hopefully there hadn’t been any residual damage done in the house. Natalie hated when he had the apparition block lifted on the house when he needed to leave for work quickly. It was better than floo powder though, that was for sure. Charlie detested jumping into the fireplace and popping up elsewhere. Other than being covered in soot after using it, one wrong step and you could be somewhere else or about to catch on fire. Apparating had its own flaws, of course, but losing a piece of his body meant nothing after working with dragons for years. If anything, that would be more of a freak occurrence than having a dragon chomping something off of him.
In what seemed like only seconds, if that, they popped out into an open field somewhere in the countryside, a small stone marker indicating to Charlie that they had managed to land in the right spot. “Well, here we are. Now just to find one of my people and get an idea what the dragon is up to…” Charlie trailed off as he looked into the distance, wondering where all the security was. He had been under the impression that at least somebody was supposed to meet them at this spot, but it looked like that had been followed through with. The peace and quiet of the countryside was rather concerning as well; if there was a dragon anywhere nearby, it was more than likely going to be a little rowdy, especially with a bunch of dragonologists around. Leading Lily over the top of a hill nearby, Charlie peered into the valley below. Right in the middle of it was the dragon they were looking for, and it seemed like, at least from this distance, that his friends had to knock it out. That was too bad. “Come on, looks like you’ll get a little closer than I had thought.”

Lily took her Uncles arm and they were off. She opened her eyes, not realizing she had closed them, to find that they were in an open field. Lily grinned, keeping her attachment to her uncles arm. She loved wide open spaces. The air was clearer out here and it was easier to see and to breathe. She nodded as he spoke, "okay!" She searched as he did, looking for another person out there. If someone was supposed to meet them, she didn't see them. She shrugged, following him over the top of the hill, eyes anywhere but straight ahead. They were darting about, looking for any sign of dragon or human alike, anything that she could focus on.
Then she found it. The dragon. Down in the valley below them. It wasn't moving, which caused her eyes to widen and she tightened her grip on Charlies arm, looking up at him with those big eyes, "is it dead!?" she asked as he mentioned a closer look and began leading her down. "I mean, I don't want see if it is!" As much as death didn't really phase Lily, it was different in this case. Her first dragon she ever saw couldn't be a dead one!

C harlie did all he could to hold back a snort when Lily asked him if the dragon was dead. If that were the case, there would have been a rushed knocking on his door around the time when his niece had shown up at his house. Dead dragons weren’t a force to meddle with, because there was an extremely lengthy, pricey process that they had to follow through with after the fact. The most dangerous part of all was that they needed to keep poachers away from the corpse. Numerous parts of dragons held extremely potent magical abilities, none of which were safe to obtain unless regulated and distributed by certified parties, one of which included the dragonologists. “No it’s not dead, at least I hope it isn’t. I think it might have gotten a little rowdy and they had to knock it out.” Charlie hoped that was all that happened. If the thing really was dead, and they just hadn’t alerted him yet, then there was going to be a problem. He’d have to bring Lily back home and then come back immediately to deal with the pleasantries of removing a dead dragon body, which was not an easy task in the slightest. “Regardless, if it’s dead or unconscious, you’ll be able to get really close now. I had only planned to watch from a distance, so this is definitely a unique experience.”
After a few minutes of walking down the hill and entering the valley below, Charlie motioned to one of his coworkers, who had spotted the two of them approaching. In rushed excitement, the young dragonologist ran over to him and whispered hurriedly into his ear. Nodding that he understood what was going on after the assistant finished talking, Charlie lead Lily even closer to the dragon. “So, the good news is that it’s not dead.” He exclaimed loudly. Maybe a little too loudly since the other dragonologists all motioned for him to be quieter. “But,” he said in a hushed voice to Lily, “They’ve knocked it out, and are unsure if it’s actually out cold from the stun spells, or sleeping.” Charlie paused to make sure Lily understood up to that point. “That means we’re either in the clear to be as loud as we want for a while, or if we’re too loud and get too close, it’ll eat us.” Charlie shrugged nonchalantly. “It happens all the time, so there’s really nothing to worry about. Stay close so that we can disapparate out of here if it does decide to wake up. I’ve been told that these guys have it under control and I don’t need to stick around if that happens.”

Lily let out a breath of relief when he said it wasn't dead. That would have been awkward- wait, he HOPED it wasn't!? He didn't KNOW!? Her relief was short lived and she bit her lip, nodding as she hoped he was right. Then he mentioned how regardless of it's state she'd be able to get close. She was happy for that, of course, and bounced on her toes a bit more as they moved closer.
Someone came to talk to them and soon after Charlie told her it wasn't dead, and she let out another breath, allowing her excited smile to fully set into place now. She leaned in closer as Charlie lowered his volume and actually snickered when he mentioned the eating us part. He told her to stay close and she nodded, "I'll just hold onto you," she said, even though she didn't like being tied down but... she didn't really want to die today. What would Adrian say?
"Okay so... onward," she muttered softly, gently tugging on her Uncles arm to get a closer look. The thing was huge, and magnificent. She bouncing up and down continually as she took it in.

H e could tell by the way Lily reacted to what he was saying that she was nervous, yet not at the same time. It was probably really hard to get her worked up over something, but not knowing whether a giant, fire-breathing lizard that was only a dozen or so meters in front of them was alive or dead would definitely get to anyone. Hell, even he was a little nervous approaching the creature. His coworkers had no idea whether or not it was asleep or knocked out, so that fact alone concerned him. Little, nagging thoughts like that were what had kept him alive up to this point, that and knowing he had family to go back home to. Today was just another ordinary day on the job, with the exception of having Lily accompanying him. Treating it like anything different than that would make him prone to errors, something he had avoided throughout his years of dealing with dragons.
As he continued explaining the situation to Lily, it looked like she understood everything. That was good. She was smart, and even though she was energized and wild most of the time, she knew how to act when things were serious. Her giggle at him mentioning possibly getting eaten by the dragon was welcoming. He had brought it up for that exact purpose. Lightening the mood was his goal while on the job. Despite looking like she was ready to walk forward, Lily still grabbed onto his arm. Charlie had a hard time holding back a small fit of laughter. So she was nervous after all! That was obviously the Ginny part of her taking hold. His sister was definitely more straightforward and stronger in her later years, but the youngest Weasley had always been timid when she was little. This was almost the same thing. At the same time though, Lily wanted to lead the way, pulling him closer to the dragon, excitedly bouncing all the way there.
When they finally got up next to it, Charlie slid his wand out just in case the thing decided to wake up. They were extremely close to its eye, and he had learned from the Triwizard Tournament years ago that a Conjunctivitis curse to the eye would put any kind of dragon down in a second. He had Viktor Krum to thank for that. “You can touch its scales if you want.” He said quietly, keeping an eye on the beast’s breathing. If there were any sudden reactions from it when Lily got closer, the two of them would be out of the field faster than a bat out of hell.

Lily was grateful that he took out his wand and left hers safely in her pocke.t Then he said she could touch the scales and she looked at him with large eyes, taking a step closer and slowly reaching out her hand. Once her hand made contact she let out a nervous laugh and shuddered. She flattened her hand against the scales and stared at the creature. It was so warm to the touch that she almost pulled back, but it wasn't like Lily to pull away once she had arrived somewhere, not if it was somewhere that she wanted to be. She giggled again, gently stroking the scales in a manner than she hoped wouldn't wake the thing. "Did you say this was male or female?" she wondered, not looking back to her uncle as she asked. He would know she was asking him. She wanted to see this thing fly, but also knew that would mean not being able to touch it. If only she could ride one, like her father had. She suddenly found herself wishing he was here, that she could be sharing this experience with him as well.

C harlie watched Lily’s expression closely as she reached out to touch the dragon’s scales. The sheer look of enjoyment that appeared was exactly why he loved doing this job. Seeing a dragon was a rare occurrence in itself; being able to be next to one and to touch it was a life changing experience for some people. That’s how it had been for him. While becoming a dragonologist hadn’t been his original career plan, the first time he came into contact with one was enough to sway him to start studying dragons. There were plenty of other amazing magical creatures out there to research, but dragons took the cake for him. He had been willing to commit his entire life (which was a literal possibility unfortunately) to it too before he had met his wife. Now with the kids and so many family members, it seemed like being more responsible for his own well-being was in place. He’d scared his poor mother for years, always bouncing back and forth between home and Romania, no need to do that with the kids.
He had a hard time holding back a smile when Lily started giggling while stroking the dragon’s scales. That was the kind of reaction he expected out of her. There was a good chance that just petting the beast wouldn’t satisfy her though. Charlie had already taken into account that she might ask to climb on it; even if it was out cold, there was no way he was letting her up there. Hopefully Harry hadn’t told her about how he rode the dragon out of Gringotts back in the day. That was quite the mess to clean up. He had several issues with how Gringotts handle things, and the use of a dragon as a security measure under those circumstances was only one of them.
Charlie’s train of thought was broken by Lily’s question. That was actually a really valid one, he hadn’t managed to tell her yet. Glancing it over quickly, he made the assumption that it was most likely male. “I think its male based on the markings. Younger Common Welsh Greens, like this one, look the same though.” He looked back at one of his coworkers to see if they could back him up at all. A quick, silent nod from a few of them at the same time confirmed his assumptions. “Looks like it is. Males are pretty easy going compared to females too. Not as territorial, which is why these guys…” Charlie motioned to the other dragonologists, “…were able to subdue it so easily.” He liked giving credit where it was due. They had done a pretty good job wrangling this one. “Ever see your mum angry? That’s what a female dragon is like all the time.” Poor Ginny. That wasn’t nice of him to say, but he was sure Lily would understand that comparison.

He said that they thought the draon was male and Lily nodded happily. It was completely and totally gorgeous, and she wished that she looked more like it! At least, maybe in the sense that she could turn into a dragon. It would be really amazing to turn into something all big and powerful and beautiful like that. Maybe she'd try to animagus it... but that seemed impossible with dragons. "It's young? How young?" Lily liked that word, young. It described herself more than anything else, really. Young, wild and free, that was Lily Potter. Charlie seemed to get a confirmation from the others and said that males were more easy going. That was easy to believe! She giggled at the mention of her mum angry and nodded "oh, I believe it, uncle Charlie. I'm just as bad," she tossed him an innocent little wink, even though she was telling the complete truth.
"Females are pretty aggressive in any species," she added with a little giggle. She knew she was aggressive in the sense that she always did whatever she wanted and wasn't afraid of anything. At least, that was how she saw herself. She took her hand from the dragon, letting it fall to her side. "So, that's the plan with him anyway?"
