[googlefont="Satisfy"] pay no attention to the girl behind the curtain Me? I'm Kath. I'm a 26-year-old self-professed Ravenclaw. I live in rainy Vancouver which makes me the token Canadian and an active proponent of the West Coast Best Coast truth. I have mountains and the ocean, so there.
I am finally finished studying Computer Systems Technology, which means one day soon I'll write software programs to make awesome things. When I get a job. I'm kind of addicted to traveling (22 countries visited and counting!) and try to get out the country at least once a year. I'm a sucker for a political discussion - unless I care too much, because then I just want to cover my ears and hide from the awful. Except electoral reform. I will always love talking about electoral reform. I'm also a Girl Guide leader, which means YES, I sell cookies, go camping/hiking/kayaking, do crafts, and teach girls how to be awesome and confident human beings. Thanks to my cousin, I have an odd fascination with the Barkley Marathons. I have 2 dogs who are gorgeous, a cat who is fluffy, and a snake who is red. I love baking and cooking, reading, writing, dressing up, playing with cameras and graphics, and lipstick.
My geekiness tends toward blood spatter, gods and goddesses, espionage, ladies with the world at their feet, space explorers, revolutionaries, dysfunctional couples, epic adventures, and canceling the apocalypse. To translate that, I am particularly fond of Harry Potter, X Company, Star Wars, Star Trek, Les Miserables, Marvel, The 100, Shadowhunters, The History Boys, Tamora Pierce, Percy Jackson, and pretty much anything involving ladies kicking butt, spies, revolutionaries, and/or mythology. I ship pretty much everything ever. I'm weird like that.
my homes away from home instagram - i take pictures of food and dogs mostly tumblr - i actually spend way less time here than i used to ao3 - fanfic for everyone! i write about minor characters and fanfics of fanfics ij - this is mostly for posterity, because i don't use it anymore, but my ancient rp history my munchkins

[googlefont="Satisfy"] from whence my muses came Nero (not currently active):Nero is easy to find and set to a specific date of creation - February 4th, 2012. Or at least, that’s the date the spreadsheet with all of the 61st Hunger Games stuff was created. Actually, this starts with Kenzie and I walking to school. We were passed by a couple of guys from our dorm. We decided to steal their legs? It spiralled ridiculously, and somehow out of this came Nero and Decima (and 30+ other characters, but they were kind of our favourites). They were the tributes from District Two. Since the very beginning, they’ve been at each other’s throats. To quote: “Known 2F entire life. Trained together. More privileged than 2F. Holds his privilege against him.” Somewhere along the line, Decima’s mother became sick, they ended up in an arranged marriage, and they flirted by physically attacking each other. They’re a little toned down in this version. And yeah, a lot of this is simply on 61sthungergames.tumblr.com/. Roxanne: You know, Roxy was the only next gen Weasley available when I snatched her up to join in the family fun. Now she's my favourite next gen character. Go figure. Padma: I’ve written her daughter before, and Padma as well. And my Padma has always left for India for a year or two after the battle to get a grip on herself post-war. And she always ends up being a total badass. This isn’t how it went in this ‘verse, but: archiveofourown.org/works/448892, because I like ripping on Michael Corner too. Antonia:Actually, the first time I wrote Augustus Rookwood’s granddaughter, she was a Ravenclaw hoping to join the Department of Mysteries. She was smart and quiet and secretive, but good. And she was called Natalia, which I obviously can’t use because there’s already a Natalia. And Natalia Rookwood went on to become an Obliviator, because the Unspeakables wouldn’t have her for her last name, but I have a plan for an Obliviator already, so she couldn’t be that either. Jessica (not currently active):There were all these Star Wars characters and I wanted in on the fun. And I wanted a Muggleborn character. Her last name was stolen from my (kind-of genius, kind-of crazy) C and C++ professor, which is how she ended up being computing obsesssed. Eliza:The name stemmed in part from Elizabeth Schulyer Hamilton (and that's definitely why she's Eliza) and part from Elizabeth Bennett. Iris (as a flower) was a reflection back on Pansy, but iris (as part of the eye) fit her observant nature. She has that air that she would fit in in a historical era, but she's also modern enough in her ambition. Also I wanted to write a journalist, and I have a deep and abiding fondness for the messed-up dynamics of the Flint/Macmillan family disaster. Scorpius:Would you believe that Scorpius came out of an idea to resurect Nero (but with less Decima)? And yet... I realized that a lot of the things I enjoyed about Nero were things that Scorpius had. Plus, you know, wanted character, Scorose forever, and Scorpius in Cursed Child being a total dork.

[googlefont="Satisfy"] where they live Antonia The Rookery. A three-floor house in the English countryside, just outside Ilkley, Yorkshire. (Ilkley Moor is the home of one of Britain's Quidditch stadiums.) It’s old and has house elf quarters in the attic. She lives with her mother. It’s a fairly large property, edged with trees to keep out prying eyes. Most of the property has familial wards, but a large shed and herb/potion ingredient garden on the edge of the property and fenced off from the rest is warded for personal use, and that of those she welcomes in, predominantly Purifiers. The plants are all things that require minimal attention - herbs and specifically encouraged weeds. ElizabethDiagon Alley, sharing a flat with Honey. Formerly at Flint Manor. KisumiThis summer, she's sharing a suite in a Muggle hotel with her father, who's using her school transition as an excuse to spend much of the summer in London looking for the next great thing (or three). Typically, in her parent's rather large multi-million dollar home in San Jose, complete with swimming pool, massive windows, and drought-hardy garden. It's a bit more classically built than a McMansion and built by someone who valued form over square feet, and has some traditional Japanese touches, but it's certainly comparable and shares the neighbourhood with a fair few of them. Padma A house a little bit north of Oxford, in a Muggle neighbourhood. It has two stories, four bedrooms, a large living room with a fireplace, and a big kitchen. There’s a small garden, with basic kitchen herbs, a jasmine vine, and a few less-obvious and benign magical plants. RoxanneWith her parents, but she's looking to move out soon. ScorpiusMalfoy Manor, Avebury, Wiltshire. The East Wing of the house, where the access to the dungeons is, and the drawing room where Hermione was tortured, is unused and neglected. The rest of the house is kept spick-and-span. The grounds are extensive, and kept clean and tidy, with gorgeous gardens and space to fly without being seen by prying Muggle eyes. There are still a few albino peacocks, but fewer than there used to be. The Manor is located within a convenient walking distance of the Avebury stone circle.

[googlefont="Satisfy"] the patroni Antonia:I did some version of the Pottermore patronus quiz, and got this result, and laughed hysterically, because at that point I already knew that Antonia was terrified of heights. So she had to have a patronus that she absolutely hates, because I am mean like that. But it also fits well, as Antonia is very honour-driven and proud, and will absolutely lash out at anyone who offends her. Eliza:Eliza got the jobberknoll because... well, she says it best when she purchased one. There had always been something poetic about jobberknolls, in Eliza's opinion. Apparently their feathers were used in memory potions and truth serums, which meant they were also useful, but that wasn't what she found interesting - she'd never been much of a potioneer herself. Nor was it their tiny size, small enough to sit in her hand, and speckled blue colour, bright and yet unassuming. No, she adored that this tiny bird just listened and watched, for its whole life. And it remembered, in the kind of way that only magic can allow, everything it ever heard, and in the moment before it died it repeated it all. Backwards, yes, but the imprint of a life lived, of secrets learned, of the undeniable truth.
Basically, it's this tiny quiet unassuming but beautiful thing that noticed everything, which is a lot like how Eliza sees herself. Kisumi:Kisumi's patronus is a Calliope Hummingbird. They're tiny colourful feisty migratory things local to California. I couldn't possibly refuse that. Padma:Padma is one of those people I spent ages trying to figure out the patronus for. She ended up with the white-bellied sea eagle. In part that's because it's native to India and it was important that her patronus reflect that part of her. Eagle matches her Ravenclaw nature, and I liked that it reflected that fierceness she has. Roxanne:I'm pretty sure I chose the magpie for Roxy because magpies like shiny things. However, there's more than that. Magpies are crazy smart. They're part of the crow family, and one of the only non-mammal species to demonstrate self-awareness. There's also this lovely old nursery rhyme, which always makes me think of magic: One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, Never to be told. Scorpius: I barely needed to consider what Scorpius's patronus would be, because I adore borzoi. Well, I adore sighthounds in general, but borzoi (aka Russian Wolfhounds) are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. They have long silky coats, run hella fast, jump crazy high, and are really smart. Some places will tell you they aren't, and it is true they're not the most trainable or obedient, but they're independent and intelligent and basically giant softies. And historically, they were aristocratic dogs, and apparently for ages the only way to get the ~prime~ borzoi was to be gifted them by the tsar. It was pretty much the perfect fit. Somewhat ironically, I don't think I've ever actually met a borzoi, but I have Silken Windhounds, and they were originally bred from borzoi, so... close enough.
