Aurelie had a free period in between Transfiguration and Charms and she wanted to make sure she had these charms down correctly before the class in case there was an exam. She didn't struggle with Charms, in fact she excelled. but this was the reason. She loved spell work, what with her father being a spell inventor. Some people thought he was a crazy person, but he had written two books in France before they moved and they sort of boosted his credibility a bit. Aurelie smiled, thinking about her father. She absolutely adored her father, aspired to be like him even, which made her mother roll her eyes at times, but then smile and give hugs, as if she just wanted Elie to do what made her happy.
That morning it had seemed a bit nippy out so she pulled on some denim jeans, as well as a sweater and some beige boots. As she sat out in the courtyard, she pulled her book bag off of her shoulder and placed it onto the bench next to where she had sat down. She took a moment to fully breath in the English air and thought momentarily about the air in France. In her memories, there seemed to always be a smell of baking bread, even if it was faint. She knew though, that it was just her memories of visiting the cities nearby where she lived, and all of the little boulangeries that smelled of fresh bread and cakes.
She pulled out her Charms book as she opened her eyes and flipped the pages to Chapter Three. She looked at the book a few times and wondered if she was actually comprehending what she was reading. Maybe she was just exhausted. Or perhaps studying was just not in the cards today. She wasn't entirely sure.

It was just one of those days for Ronan he didn’t really have any classes until that afternoon. And so most times while his friends were in class and he roamed the castle, most times he used it as a chance to get to know the other students in the castle, especially those that were in other years. And this morning it was no different. Ronan was near the courtyard today and as he got closer he could see someone sitting on one of the benches reading what appeared to be a charms book. Ah charms what a fun subject, or at least it was for him. Most of his friends and even other students would come to him for help. Ronan had a knack for the subject, since it just came naturally to him. He felt like showing off a little bit, today and to practice something that he had figured out how to do the other day on his own.
He stopped at the entrance to the courtyard and noticed that the girl wasn’t even paying attention to anything and it seemed that she was having a hard time focusing on studying, and maybe she needed a break. Ronan glanced around and nobody else was even here. Granted it was a little nippy out. He took out his wand in a small circular motion and three things happened at once. First it began to snow but the snow was different colors, and it wasn’t cold. Then the next thing to happen was that the book that the girl had in her hand flew out of her hands to land on top of her bag. And then last but not least a simple wall of ice came out of nowhere and formed into an exact model of the Eifel Tower in Paris, France. He knew that the girl who was a Slytherin, not that he cared, had lived in France for most of her life. Ronan had been there once and that was why he had made the ice form into a model of the Eifel Tower. “It seems to me that you are having a hard time studying your charms book. You might want to take a break from reading and actually try practicing what you are learning.” He stated as he walked over to where she sat and then he introduced himself. “I am Ronan Finnigan. What’s your name?”

It wasn't until the spell work started happening that Aurelie came back to reality, getting out of her own head. When her book flew out of her hands she reached out to grab it but it came back and landed on her book bag, which she was grateful for. She looked over to see a boy with a wand out, and she was going to scold him, her eyebrows furrowed slightly, but then she saw the snow starting to fall and she reached out, her hands palm up, hoping to catch the snow. As the snow started to swirl, it started to swirl in a circle, like a whirlwind and a small snow-tornado, that was swirling together like magic from a muggle fairytale. When it dissipated, there, within the colored snow, was a small ice sculpture of the Eiffel Tower.
Her hands went up to her face, and she tried her best not to gasp. Tears welled up in her eyes and she tried not to start sobbing. She missed France so much she couldn't even stand it. A few tears fell down her cheeks and she reached up and rubbed them from her face. "Vy? 'Ow?" She couldn't even form sentences. He came and sat down next to her. “It seems to me that you are having a hard time studying your charms book. You might want to take a break from reading and actually try practicing what you are learning.” She finally contained herself and pulled her hands away from her face. She contained her excitement, though she was very tempted to walk over to the ice sculpture and touch it.
“I am Ronan Finnigan. What’s your name?” She turned her attention back to the blonde male. His accent was thick with English and some Irish tones. "Je... My name, eet iz Aurelie Kirke." Her accent was soft with French accents throughout it. Her name was pronouced like Or-Eh-Lee, though some of her housemates had taken to calling her Elie. She spent a good portion of her summer working on her English so she could be more social this year. She was hardly social at all last year, just the quiet little French girl who transferred from Beauxbatons. "I vould like to practice.... a beet."

"Vy? 'Ow?" Ronan could instantly tell that she had grown up in France just by how she spoke. To be honest she had a cool accent. He also noticed that it had an effect on the girl as well and it looked like she was going to cry. But that didn’t matter, because it was obvious that she missed France very much. “It’s is simple really, Just some simple charms, like this for example.” He summoned the replica of the Eifel Tower towards him and he shrunk it down to a smaller size so that it wouldn’t take up so much room. He also placed a permanent freezing charm on it so that it would never melt. “This is for you. It will never melt, and you can place it on your bedside table, so you always have something to remind you of the beauty of France.” Ronan said as he picked up the tower and held it out for Aurelie to take.
“Nice to meet you Aurelie.” He said pronouncing her name correctly, since he was sure everyone else pronounced it wrong. While in France he had picked up just enough French to know how to pronounce the words and hold a decent conversation. "I vould like to practice.... a beet." Ok yeah he was kind of hooked now, her accent wasn’t only cool but it he found it kind of sexy as well. ‘What am I getting myself into.’ Ronan thought before, “I am willing to help you practice charms anytime.” He offered. Now she didn’t have to accept his offer but is would always be there. “So tell me, what is your favorite place in all of France?” He wanted her to feel comfortable and well one way to do that was by getting to know her better and becoming friends regardless of what house she was in. Ronan was sure that his friends would tease him about making friends with a Slytherin, but hey it would be worth it. And plus not every Slytherin was evil.

Elie rubbed her face to wipe any tears that she had let fall on her cheeks and smiled at Ronan as he sat next to her. “It’s is simple really, Just some simple charms, like this for example.” She watched as he pulled the Eiffel Tower closer to them and shrunk it down in size. Though she spent years at Beauxbatons, no one really did much magic outside of the classroom. They didn't want the students backfiring spells and harming themselves. As he held out the tiny Eiffel tower for her to take she took it as cautiously as possible, terrified she might break it. “This is for you. It will never melt, and you can place it on your bedside table, so you always have something to remind you of the beauty of France.” The glow of the ice against the sun was creating small rainbow fragments bursting out of it hand hitting pieces of the walls around them. "Sank you very much, Monsieur Feen-a-geen."
“Nice to meet you Aurelie.” She smiled and she was sure that the charms of her veela-blood were naturally bursting out of her, much like the rainbow fragments from the sun. "You may call me Elie eef you vould like..." She didn't mind Elie at all. She was actually happy the people liked her enough to give her a nickname. They could just ignore her. They gave her sister Adelae a nickname as well... Delly. “I am willing to help you practice charms anytime.” She looked up at him with his light hair and light eyes and she bit her lip while smiling. "I very much... erm... appri-ziate zat, Rone-ahn." The way she said his name was soft and slightly sensual with a deep, throaty tone to it. It wasn't that difficult of a name for her to say, but it was just as if she pronounced the vowels wrong. She was surprised, however, when he changed the subject back to France, not that she minded. “So tell me, what is your favorite place in all of France?” She thought momentarily, before responding, "Zere is a zity vhich eez named Perigueux, and eet look like ze village vhere people vould ver petticoats and live in old times, like leet-le victorian dolls, yes? And ze vater by ze village... eet eez zo bleu." She paused and admired her memory. "Vhere eez you favorite place een Brit-aane?"

"Sank you very much, Monsieur Feen-a-geen." Ronan smiled at Elie and nodded his head a little bit. “You are most welcome mademoiselle Elie.” He said in a caring tone, and he used the name that she had told him that he could call her it if he so wanted to do so. "Zere is a zity vhich eez named Perigueux, and eet look like ze village vhere people vould ver petticoats and live in old times, like leet-le victorian dolls, yes? And ze vater by ze village... eet eez zo bleu… Vhere eez you favorite place een Brit-aane?" Ronan thought for a few moments, since he lived in Ireland he visited Britain many times. However there were many places that he liked but there was one in particular that he liked going to no matter what time of year it was. “As for my favorite place in Britain that is a tough choice since there are many places that I have visited.” He paused for a second as he made up his mind. “Well I would have to say that my favorite place to visit and go to in all of Britain is The White Cliffs of Dover.” It was true the White Cliffs of Dover were something that always fascinated him. He had even gone flying with his dad down the coast where the cliffs were located. It was a fun time and it was also peaceful.
Ronan sat there watching the light shine in different colors on the walls that were around them. It was a site to behold. “That city you were talking about Perigueux, I have never been there but it sounds like a place worth visiting.” Ronan was now curious to learn more about this Perigueux, but more importantly he wanted to learn more about Elie. “So tell me a bit more about yourself Elie.” Ronan said as he turned his attention back to Elie. “You know stuff like, what do you like to do for fun, favorite subject to study, any hobbies, etc.?” Ronan added to make sure Elie would know what he was asking, since most people when poised with the question he had asked they usually had no clue what he meant and it was kind of funny now that he thought about it.

Elie was very fascinated by this Irish boy. She had made a few friends in the past year, but she was a pretty reserved adolescent and she wasn't good at making friends, though she did find out that she was pretty good at attracting the male persuasion, thanks to her veela charming. It was something she couldn't control and she was born with it, therefore it annoyed her greatly, how much male attention she received. But the fact that she was having a real conversation with Ronan made her feel a little better about the situation. "You are most welcome, Mademoiselle Elie.” She wrinkled her nose and blushed, as he used the word Madamoiselle. What a gentleman.
She watched as he paid strict attention to her as she was speaking, which made her feel better about her speaking to him. He wasn't just talking to her because she had lured him in with her whimsical hereditary magic. Then when she asked him about his favorite place, he took moments to think, in which she watched his eyes turn to look at a far away location and she wondered if she looked in the same direction if she would see it as well. “As for my favorite place in Britain that is a tough choice since there are many places that I have visited. Well I would have to say that my favorite place to visit and go to in all of Britain is The White Cliffs of Dover.” She took her moments to translate his words back to french in her head before replying. "Dover...? Eez zis a zity?" She wondered what it looked like, these white cliffs.
She tilted her head as he started questioning her further, her guard tempting to raise up and push him off... but she resisted. “So tell me a bit more about yourself Elie.” She tilted her head the other way. What did he mean by that? What did he want to know. “You know stuff like, what do you like to do for fun, favorite subject to study, any hobbies, etc.?” She scrunched her face and thought about what she might tell him. "Vell... for fun, I zing in zee , um, fr-rog choir and I play ze cello. For subject, I ee-joy zee class vitt vandvork, yes? Um, like Charms, Tranfiguring and Dark arts...? I jus' don' like zee soft subject. I avoid zem." She hoped she was even making sense to him. Her accent was a bit of a problem sometimes. She ran her hand through her hair and sighed. French was easier than this English language, though her father was English. " and... 'Obbie? Vhat is 'obbie?" She shrugged and smiled.

"Dover...? Eez zis a zity?" He nodded his head in agreement “Yes Dover is a city on the coast. And the famous White Cliffs are right next to it and run along the coast for many kilometers/miles however you want to put. It is truly and amazing place to visit.” Ronan said in response to Elie’s question about Dover. He would have to make it a point to go back there again sometime soon, and maybe if she wanted to go he would invite Elie along as well so she could see what he was talking about.
Ronan smiled as he listened to Elie talk about what she liked to do for fun which consisted of singing, playing the cello, charms transfiguration and defense against the dark arts. “Ah well I am not much of a singer but I am sure that you have a beautiful singing voice. And I quite agree with the whole avoiding soft subjects that require no wand work.” He said, hoping that the questions that he had been asking her weren’t pushing or prying in anyway. " and... 'Obbie? Vhat is 'obbie?" Ah a subject he knew all to well and how to explain it was easy since many first years that didn’t know what one was would ask him or his friends.
“Well a hobby is something that you like to do for fun in your spare time when you want to get away. For example a hobby of mine is something that I enjoy doing all of the time even though they tell us not to do it, and that is practicing charms. I have always had a knack for charms and it is something I enjoy doing. Sometimes I even help create knew charms. I also have another hobby besides charms. I enjoy doing things such as jumping from the staircases that move all the time. Not because I want to draw attention to myself but because I enjoy doing it. So those are some hobbies that I have, I can give you more examples of hobbies if you are still unsure as to what a hobby is.” He hoped that he had explained it clear enough for Elie. It must be hard for her to understand everything in English, but at least she was trying and doing her best. “So what hobby or hobbies do your have?” Ronan asked as he watched Nieve come flying down towards them and land on his shoulder. Nieve is his snowy owl. “Elie I would like to introduce you to Nieve, a good friend and owl. If you ever need to send a package or a letter, feel free to use her.” He offered Eile the service of his owl not knowing if the girl had an owl to use. Nieve gave a hoot of agreement. Ronan just felt that it might be necessary to do so, why he didn’t know but went with it anyways.

Elie smiled as he nodded in agreement with her question. She was happy that she was working through her English translations one at a time and she could handle at least this conversation. She would have to tell Delly about it later, about the blonde Lion boy who was sweet and made her an Eiffel Tower trinket to keep. “Yes Dover is a city on the coast. And the famous White Cliffs are right next to it and run along the coast for many kilometers/miles however you want to put. It is truly and amazing place to visit.” These white cliffs seemed fascinating as Ronan described them and she smiled, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Ronan, as if she wanted to watch every word leaving his mouth, regarding the cliffs.
“Ah well I am not much of a singer but I am sure that you have a beautiful singing voice. And I quite agree with the whole avoiding soft subjects that require no wand work.” She blushed slightly, her cheeks pinking to a soft rose color, which contrasted drastically with her alabaster skin and highlighted her bright icy blue eyes. "Oh, Merci." She said quietly. She was rather shy about her own talents and so she didn't know how to handle compliments when she received them. He then went on to explain what a hobby was, which Elie was grateful for. Most people just shrugged off when she didn't know a word, which made her feel bad, like she should already know the word and she didn't. “Well a hobby is something that you like to do for fun in your spare time when you want to get away. For example a hobby of mine is something that I enjoy doing all of the time even though they tell us not to do it, and that is practicing charms. I have always had a knack for charms and it is something I enjoy doing. Sometimes I even help create new charms. I also have another hobby besides charms. I enjoy doing things such as jumping from the staircases that move all the time. Not because I want to draw attention to myself but because I enjoy doing it. So those are some hobbies that I have, I can give you more examples of hobbies if you are still unsure as to what a hobby is.”
She nodded as her brain processed what he was saying. A few moments of silence she finally said, " Oh, eet eez like lezure activity, yes? Jumping from stairs, eet eez not 'obby. Eet eez... um... vish of death." She smirked at him, trying to tease him. " Vor vun, I enjoy... um... to study vands, yes? Like 'ow zey vork and vhy people 'ave different vands. Also I enjoy.... I zink vord eez pranks. I like pranking people." There was a slightly devilish grin as she said that. She loved pulling pranks on people, in any good form. She wasn't so vindictive that she would want to actually pull a prank that was manipulative and cruel, just the ones that are all in good fun. She also enjoyed working with wands, and spells too, just like her father does, as a spell inventor.
Elie was slightly startled as an owl came in between them and sat right next to Ronan. She didn't jump or anything; she was simply surprised. Elie had no pets so she was not used to being this close to an animal. She was not a fan of cats, and she didn't see the reason for an owl; at least before she left for Hogwarts. The longer she was here, however, the more she thought about writing her mother. “Elie I would like to introduce you to Nieve, a good friend and owl. If you ever need to send a package or a letter, feel free to use her.” She smiled and looked down at the bird. "Enchantee Neive. Vous êtes un très beau hibou. Vos plumes sont belles" She said softly to the bird, telling him how gorgeous he was and how nice his feathers were. She figured the bird wouldn't care whether she spoke English or French. Her voice was soft and thicker as she spoke French, the language flowing quickly and beautifully, unlike the broken English that she had spoken since Ronan had arrived. "Zank you, Ronan. I value your offer of your bird."

" Oh, eet eez like lezure activity, yes? Jumping from stairs, eet eez not 'obby. Eet eez... um... vish of death." Oh so now she was into teasing him, which was always a very good sign, it meant that she was opening up and was willing to be herself and not shy or anything like that. He enjoyed it whenever people were themselves and did not pretend to be someone or something else. “Nope, it is not a death wish. I consider it as something that is fun and enjoyable.” Ronan said adopting a matter of fact tone before he went ahead and smirked since he was joking/teasing Elie. "Vor vun, I enjoy... um... to study vands, yes? Like 'ow zey vork and vhy people 'ave different vands. Also I enjoy.... I zink vord eez pranks. I like pranking people." Now that was interesting since it wasn’t often that one would meet someone who was interested in wandlore and the study/creation of wands. “That is really neat that you like wandlore and everything that goes along with it. If my memory serves me right you are only the third person that I have ever met who is interested in wandlore.” Ronan said and then what really got his attention was the fact that the girl said she liked pranking people.
Since when did Slytherins like to prank people, but then yet again this Ronan could tell that Elie was not your average Slytherin. He could tell that she had the qualities of a Slyhterin but her personality said different. “Pranking people, huh? I find it quite interesting that here I am talking to you all of this time, and I didn’t even realize that you were a prankster. Well then let me apologize from one prankster to another, and I hope that we might be able to pull a few pranks together.” Ronan said in a serious tone that was laced with mischief.
"Zank you, Ronan. I value your offer of your bird." Ronan smiled at Elie as she spoke to Nieve in French with a soft and thicker tone. He enjoyed listening to Elie speaking in French which was her native language. He looked around before he stood up to stretch before he sat back down and then pulled out a letter that he had been meaning to send for awhile now to Maryn, since he wanted to talk to her about something. Ronan attached it to Nieve’s leg. “They are truly intelligent creatures, aren’t they?” Ronan asked as he watched Nieve fly off to find Maryn and give her the letter.
