Lily would change the music back to something more exciting after Edmund taught Cordia for one or two songs, of course. She wiggled her eyebrows at others as she passed them, Irina Rose Krum and @daniel , @gwendolen and some french guy. "Come on guys," she encouraged as she walked by @roxanne and whoever she was with, "you guys can do it. Just pretend you know how!" she giggled, finally reaching the two she had left behind in the first place, cordelia regan smith and @edmund .
She stopped, surveying them, "it looks like it's going pretty well. Edmund doesn't bite," Lily encouraged, winking at Edmund as she said so. "I need a dance partner..." she spun around to approach the group she'd taken Cordie from, @margaux , @maria and @jill16 , to see that @ruse had joined them, "Hey, One of you four come here," she called.
Directly addressing: Loic, Margaux, Maria, Daryl, Edmund and Cordie. (referenced @viola and @dastan )

Viola said they did know how, or at least, had learned once long ago. And then they did ask her to dance. Awkwardly, but they did, and Roxy tried to match Viola’s casualness by keeping her grin in check. Before she could actually say yes, along came Lily, just telling them to pretend, and Roxy rolled her eyes. ”Go find your own partner, Lils, I’ve got one,” she retorted, and turned back to Viola with a determined glint in her eyes. ”Okay, so hands go here” - she placed a hand on Viola’s shoulder - ”and here, right?” And her other hand was out for Viola to take, and she was sure she was as red as her cousins’ hair, but she was doing this. @viola lily luna potter

Cordelia seemed so nervous, but Ed was starting to get the feeling that that might not be completely because of him. Was she always this nervous or something? He wasn't sure. When he touched her waist, he could sense how uncomfortable she was, so he waited patiently for her to be ready. "Next we dance with the music," he said, smiling when Lily turned it on. "There are three main beats with the waltz, see? One, two three, one, two three. You take a longer step on the one and then two three are smaller steps. Like this," he said, leading her gently. He didn't teach her the box, that was easier to get confused with. So he stepped forward, hopefully leading her in a way she'd be able to follow. He took it slow, hoping she would catch on. After a few steps he stopped. "How's that?" he asked, wondering how she was reacting to it. Lily came back, saying he didn't bite and Ed smiled. "Not while I'm dancing," he teased. It wasn't normally the kind of thing he would say, but he was trying to help Cordelia feel more comfortable. cordelia regan smithlily luna potter

This wasn’t nearly as hard as she thought it would have been, similar to how she had imagined the dancing earlier would have been difficult as well. Luckily, it seemed like her feet were cooperating so far. Edmund’s directions helped immensely, something that she had never thought would make someone as clumsy as she was actually good at dancing. It was quite possible that was the tiny push Cordelia needed to get better at it. The steps were simple, and following Edmund’s lead was even easier than that. “N-No complaints here.” She paused, thinking of a better response. “It’s k-kind of fun actually.”
Lily was back in a flash, almost as fast as it took her to disappear in the first place. Obviously it was easy for to snake her way across the dance floor, and Cordelia didn’t doubt that she had probably also managed to talk to a dozen people in that short amount of time as well. Strange how some people could manage to do that, where all she was capable of doing was uttering a few words here and there, the majority of which were stuttered, discombobulated thoughts. She knew the banter about biting wasn’t real, but she still reacted like it was. Force of habit maybe? Either way, she didn’t pull away from Edmund, hoping the lessons would continue sooner or later. It was better to learn the whole thing, instead of stopping halfway.

Viola let out a soft laugh when Roxy had to fend her cousin off. “What, so I’m your partner now?” They asked teasingly in hopes of easing some of the tension in the air. Viola assumed that Roxy would realized that partner, in addition to meaning the one Roxy was dancing with, was one term for a gender-neutral romantic interest. “Yup, that’s where they go.” Viola said, feeling a surge of confidence as they stepped closer to Roxy. “Guess I’ll do the guy’s part.” They said with a chuckle, placing one hand on Roxy’s waist and the other in the hand Roxy offered her. Wow, was it warm in there, or what? The confidence was beginning to ebb, so Viola thought it was better that they get moving. “Alright, let’s go.” Viola declared. “Just follow my lead.”

Roxy rolled her eyes at Viola’s teasing, and laughed. ”Yes, obviously,“ she answered, as Viola put their hand on her waist, and then took her outstretched hand. It was not quite awkward, but something close - too red, too warm, but not stiff. Viola said they’d lead, and she nodded. ”Everything I know about dancing like this I learned by looking around the room in the past 30 seconds,” she warned, ”so sorry in advance for stepping on your toes.”

Viola hadn’t expected Roxy actually to answer that question, but they were surprised by the answer, even if it was all made in jest. “It’s okay.” Viola said with a smile. “No one ever learned to dance without stepping on a few toes first.” Of course, they had been small when they had learned how to dance, so the toe-stepping hadn’t been painful, but the point was still a valid one. “Most of dancing is just listening to the music and your partner at the same time.” That was really the only thing Viola had learned from the whole affair with their mother, but it was pretty sound advice, they thought as they began to waltz Roxy around the floor.

“As long as you’re prepared,” she said with a smile.
Roxy would have said she had a maximum of two musical bones in her body, so listening to the music was probably not going to work for her. But listening to her partner she thought she could manage. She matched Viola’s steps, just in reverse, focusing intently on the movement, and it went fairly well for a moment. She could even hear the DUN dun dun that marked the rhythm, and…
It had been longer than she’d thought it take, but that was Viola’s foot. She winced. “Sorry.”

Viola smiled at Roxy. “I’m always ready.” Which wasn’t at all true, because they definitely hadn’t been ready for how warm they felt now that they were dancing with Roxy. The pair of them were doing pretty well at keeping up with the music and each other, but then Roxy seemed to get off rhythm, and Viola’s toes paid the price. They had the natural inclination to jerk their foot back, and gave Roxy a smile, though their eyes were watering a little with pain. “That wasn’t fun.” They said with a little, nervous laugh. “Do you want to keep trying?”

“Sorry!” she repeated.
And then they asked if she wanted to keep trying, and she didn’t think that was the important question. “Do you want to keep trying? Because, let’s be real, there’s a high probability of that happening again.” She would completely understand if Viola said no, because it looked like it hurt, and toes were delicate things. But she hoped they wouldn’t, because for a moment there she was having fun, before she went and mucked it all up.

"Pssshhh," Lily said as her cousin told her off. She giggled, too, after walking away. She was glad Roxy had a dance partner! Then Ed claimed he didn't bite 'while dancing' and Lily laughed loudly. "See, Cord!? You're fine," she winked at Ed. Wow, that was actually pretty hilarious for Ed Windsor.
Lily was still without a partner but she didn't mind, she took a step back to survey the crowd, waiting for someone to respond to her call for a partner.

“It’s really fine, Roxy.” Viola assured their dancing partner. “Us Durmstrang kids are tough. Doesn’t even hurt that much anymore.” Viola used the back of their hand to wipe away one stray tear before moving it back to Roxy’s waist. “I say keep trying. If we ever dance together again, I don’t want a repeat experience.” They said with a chuckle. They didn’t know about Roxy and the Yule Ball, but that would be a thing that was happening, eventually, and maybe they’d dancer together then, too. “Once more into the breach?” They asked, not wanting to start before Roxy was ready and have to stop again immediately when their toes got assaulted.

She was doing quite well and even though Edmund didn't know Cordelia at all, he was proud of how quickly she was learning. "Good," he said encouragingly when she said she was "kind of" having fun. "Now if you have someone who knows what they're doing with you, they might try to spin you or something." He kept his tone easygoing, hoping that she'd be okay trying something new so quickly. "If they're any good, it should be easy. Just follow their lead and try to make sure your feet stay with the beat. It should be something like this." Edmund used his hand on her waist to gently push her to the side while he simultaneously lifted their hands so she had somewhere to spin. "One two three, one two three," he counted out loud again in an effort to try and help her remember the beats as she spun. He felt her tense up at his teasing and tried to smile reassuringly. "I was just teasing," he told her, shaking his head at Lily. Of course she would find his remark funny. She knew it wasn't really like him to say things like that. cordelia regan smithlily luna potter

Viola confirmed that they were fine, and she nodded, relieved. Not that she hadn’t physically injured friends before, but that was usually on the Quidditch Pitch and it was an actual understood risk. ”Okay, keep trying it is.” She took a deep breath and nodded. ”Once more we go.”

Why was Roxy so nervous about this? Viola had been hurt when dancing before, and their mother had been much less apologetic than Roxy had been – not to mention the fact that their mother had never asked them whether or not they wanted to dance in the first place, and she was much less pretty than Roxy was. “You know, if you get freaked out, it’s just going to get worse.” Viola said. “So if you wanna wait a little, that’s okay, too.” And then there was also the matter of a music change, which Viola was unsure about. Roxy’s cousin hadn’t had any qualms with changing the music to a waltz without a moment’s notice, and Viola was a bit worried that the waltz could be shut off just as quickly as it came.
