A new thing? Natalie didn't ask for clarification just yet, and she was right not to, because Jamie's next commetn about her mother having a child so young and not wanting one made it clear that the siblings were from Fenrirs side of the family... meaning that they were her half siblings. Especially since Natalie knew that Fenrir Greyback would never settle down, of course he'd get multiple woman pregnant.
When Jamie spoke of her mother not wanting her, Natalie squeezed the girls hand. "I... would avoid my mother, but I'm afraid it's no use now. She doesn't remember much these days," she admitted. She wanted to tell Jamie that she should go to her mother before it's too late but... she wasn't sure if she believed that. She did, however, say this, "I'll admit that I wasn't the greatest mother, textbook wise. But I did love my children and want them there," she paused, "Harper or no Harper, Jamie, you are welcome in our home any time."

Jamie instinctively squeezed back when Natalie squeezed her hand. She hadn’t been seeking comfort with what she said, but now that she was being comforted, it was nice. Really nice. “I’m sorry.” Jamie said when Natalie said she couldn’t avoid her mother now because it wasn’t of any use. Even if they hadn’t been close…Well, Jamie knew that if something were to happen to her own mother, she would still feel awful about it. Maybe apologies weren’t what Natalie wanted, but they were the only thing that Jamie knew how to give right now, short of a hug, and that seemed a little strange to do, since they were dancing.
“My mom tried. For a little while.” Seven years, to be precise, and maybe some time after that. Jamie didn’t even no anymore. “I – thank you.” With no mother, and no father worth a damn, Jamie had been pretty far adrift when it came to parental figures. And being wanted by someone that she could imagine as her mother, even after one short conversation, was…nice.

Natalie simply nodded and smiled at Jamie's condolences to her mother. That was good enough for her, considering she didn't necessarily think getting into details was worth their time right now. Jamie spoke of how her mom tried for a while and Natalie smiled encouragingly, but there was still a little sadness to it, not completely a happy, perky grin. That wouldn't suit the moment. "Maybe she will try again, when you two have some time to process things," she suggested.
Then Jamie was thanking her for her offer and Natalie's grin returned to it's usual sunshine glory. "I'm afraid the song is almost over," she said softly, "would you care for another dance or possibly some refreshment? A walk? I'm afraid I'm not ready to share you just yet," she whispered that last part, giggling conspiratorially.

“Remember how I said I was a passionate person?” Jamie asked rhetorically. “I think…maybe I was a little too passionate.” There had been a slamming door, and many insults thrown, and Jamie had said a lot of things that she couldn’t take back. Even time couldn’t heal everything, and Jamie was scared to go back to her mother and be turned away. “But I hope, maybe when I’m older…” Jamie trailed off, and then attempted to smile at Natalie. When she was older, she could go back to her mother, and thank her for the seventeen years she had kept a secret because she had thought that was the best choice.
Jamie beamed at Natalie when she offered to continue talking despite the end of their dance. “A walk would be nice. My sister – I came with her as my date – probably won’t mind being alone a little longer.” Max was surprisingly good at being alone.

Too passionate? Natalie could understand that. She was that way with her own mother and with her children. "Do you mean... dramatic, in a way? A lot of grand gestures?" she guessed. It was hard being such a passionate, overbearing person, especially when one was angry. Natalie had her fair share of screaming matches with her own mother, who only kept her around because her nanny was the one who took care of her. "Maybe," Natalie encouraged. She really hoped things would work out, but she also found herself hoping that Jamies mom would make the first move. But, alas, she had no control over that whatsoever. Unless she spoke with the woman, but that seemed a bit much.
Jamie agreed to a walk, mentioning her sister-date and Natalie grinned even more. "That is so sweet! If you're sure she won't mind," the song came to an end and Natalie spun Jamie away one more time before offering an arm to her. "Your dress is lovely on you, by the way, did I say?"

Jamie nodded vigorously at Natalie’s explanation of what she meant by being too passionate. “Yeah. I yelled a lot. And slammed a door.” She shrugged, trying to brush it off. The theatrics had seemed so important at the time, but now, looking back…Well, hindsight was twenty-twenty. Jamie didn’t want to think about sad things anymore, not when this was Christmas night! She was sure that Natalie wouldn’t mind an owl or two to talk about the sad stuff, someday later when Jamie could actually examine it for what it was.
“She’s my best friend.” Jamie said with a smile. “I can’t imagine anyone else I’d rather go with.” Even if she had still been with Harper, Jamie would have wanted to go with Max, to make sure her sister’s night was special. “You didn’t, but thank you.” For the first time, Jamie looked at Natalie’s dress instead of at her face, and for a moment, she was awestruck. “You look beautiful, too.”

"Awe, the classic door slam," Natalie mused. "It's a common thing, don't worry. I'm sure it won't be a big deal forever," she said, also sort of brushing it off but really meaning that. Jamie could get past this if she really wanted to, but Nat also understood needing to take your time. She still felt like she had things she'd like to salvage with her own mother.
Jamie spoke as to how her sister was her best friend and smiled again, that same dashing smile from when Jamie first greeted her. "What a lucky girl," Natalie said, referencing both Jamie and her sister, really. Then, Jamie thanked her for the compliment and noticed Natalie's own dress. Natalie chuckled at Jamie's moment of awe, but she expected that. "Well, thank you, my darling. I do agree," she said with another giggle, leading Jamie out of the ballroom.
"So, this sister you are here with, I'm assuming she's one of the younger ones?" she asked.

Jamie was relieved to hear that Natalie thought that her argument with her mother was solvable, though there was still the subject matter of it to deal with, which wasn’t going to change any time soon. But, again, that could be dealt with later.
“I really am.” Jamie said. Natalie had probably meant that Max was lucky, but really, Jamie knew she was the lucky one, to get a sister who understood her so completely. “Yeah, my youngest sister, Max. She’s in Slytherin.” Jamie said, unsure why she had added that bit of extraneous information. “My older sister might be here? I don’t know, I think her boyfriend works for the Ministry, but I’m not sure if she’d be here or not. I haven’t seen her.” That was probably more information than Natalie wanted to know, but it was so rare that Jamie was able to gush about her family, so she was going to seize every opportunity that she got to talk about them.

Natalie nodded as Jamie explained that it was her younger sister, a Slytherin, who she had come with and that her older sister was dating someone at the Ministry. "Oh! Well, she may be around then, or they could have chosen to opt out for some alone time. Most of the Ministry has the night off so I'm sure some of them are using that for some private outings," she guessed. She knew some people had stayed at the Ministry to look after things, of course, the Minister included.
"And are both of your younger brothers in Hogwarts?" she asked.

Jamie nodded when Natalie said that her sister might not be around. She couldn’t remember if Odette had said anything either way. “I’m sure I’ll see her eventually, if she is here.” Odette wouldn’t avoid her for the whole night. But if her sister was out someplace private with her boyfriend, then Jamie couldn’t blame her. When the question about her brother came, Jamie shook her head. “No, the older one is a Durmstrang student. He’s here for the Tournament, though.” Jamie explained. She wouldn’t mention that Elias was Champion, because right now, this was her time, and as selfish as it seemed, she didn’t want to hear someone start gushing over Elias when she was so happy. “But the younger one, Adrian, is a Gryffindor.” Jamie supplied helpfully.

"Oh!" Natalie exclaimed, "he's the Champion, isn't he? Elias Greyback," she recalled, laughing at herself for not realizing it sooner. "And a Gryffindor, that's great. He probably knows a lot of my nieces and nephews in that case," she laughed, "it's hard not to know them around here," she added. The Weasleys were everywhere, which was fun and probably a little annoying for the other students. "Well, I'm glad you were able to find so many half siblings. Family is a great thing," she said. She didn't have any siblings of her own, as she said previously, and a part of her was jealous of that fact. She loved Charlies big family, and was blessed that they welcomed her with open arms. "And your older brother? What's his story?" she asked casually.

Jamie nodded when Natalie asked if her brother was the Champion. “Yes, he is.” She said smoothly, her enthusiasm dulled but not all the way gone. Her smile broadened again, though, when Natalie mentioned that Adrian would know a lot of her nieces and nephews. “Yeah. He’s really close with Lily Potter.” Lowering her voice conspiratorially, Jamie winked at Natalie. “They’re in love with each other, but they don’t realize it yet.” Hopefully they would figure that out soon, but Jamie wasn’t sure she could hold her breath when it came to Adrian and emotions. When Natalie said she was glad Jamie had found so many half-siblings, Jamie nodded. “They make my life a lot better, even if they do drive me insane.” When the question came about Dominik, Jamie had to err on the side of frugality with her information. “He works at Hogwarts. The groundskeeper.” Other than that, she wasn’t sure what else there was to say.

So Jamie's brother was indeed champion as was Harpers cousin. That could have been very interesting if the girls were still dating. At the mention of her niece, Lily, Natalie grinned and returned Jamie's wink. Then, Natalie laughed at Jamie's next words. "In love!? Lily? Oh my, he must be quite boy," Natalie said between laughs, shaking her head. She couldn't imagine that girl committing to anything, let alone a boy. Natalie's laughter died down as Jamie said that her siblings made her life easier even when they drove her insane. Her older brother was the Groundskeeper? "Oh, that must be nice," she nodded, "well, I'm very glad for you to have such a family all in one place. And friends too, of course."

Jamie snorted when Natalie said that Adrian must have been quite the boy. “He’s just my brother.” She said, shaking her head. “They’re both a little daft when it comes to love, I think.” Not that her opinion mattered in the end, but it would be nice if, some day, she could introduce Lily as her sister without having to explain that it wasn’t official in any sense but in her heart, because it would be official, because Lily and Adrian would be married! Well, that was the dream, at least. “I wish my sister was around more.” Jamie said with a shrug. “The older one, she’s a Cursebreaker, so she’s not always around.” And it was selfish to wish, but Jamie wanted her entire family at the school at once, not just occasionally or when something tragic happened. “Friends are good, too.” Jamie agreed. “Are you still friends with people you knew from Hogwarts?”

Just her brother. Well, Natalie knew that Lily wouldn't go to a committed life for just anyone. Natalie chuckled, "awe, well, I think many of us are at that age. I still am, I think," she admitted with a short shrug, "if I wasn't already married I would probably be running around just as daft as Lily and your brother," she added. Jamie spoke as to how she wished her older sister was around but the adult job did get in the way, as they always do. "You'll also see what it's like when you're all graduated with a job. It's a completely different world," and you don't get to stay as close to those you want to, for the most part. "I am! Astoria Malfoy and I are very close," she answered. "Partly because our children dated for a while but we were friends in school as well. Oh! She paused turning around for a moment, "I think I see my daughter, Ondina. I'm sorry, would you mind if we cut this walk short? I would love to speak with her and I doubt she'll be left without a dance partner for long," she chuckled, turning back to Jamie with an apologetic smile.
