Working at St. Mungo's was a dream come true in a lot of different ways, but in one way, it was awful. Natalia hated having to be nice to everyone, all the time. She was practicing, and getting a lot better at it, but there was only so much progress that could be made in a few short months. At times like this, when she was annoyed by the world and the patients and everyone and everything, she hid in the supply closet, and wrote patient summaries. People would think it was strange, especially since Nat generally wasn't the kind of person who sat on dirty floors surrounded by emesis basins and various cleaners, but it was better than having to deal with people distracting her from her work and making small talk with her when she was already maxed out on social interaction. So Nat sat on the floor, charts on her lap and quill and ink pot by her knee, working.

Today was one of Callistos days at the Hospital. She loved her work here. Not because of the patient relationships or anything, but because of the science of it all. She was fascinated by the way spells could damage a person and affect and alter their bodies. It was incredibly fascinating and she was a slave to learning more about it. The holidays were always busy, too, what with the oh-so-genius people who liked to invent spells as Christmas presents. That's when things went really wrong.
She finally had a moment to breathe and she left her ward, walking briskly until she saw Natalia Lestrange sitting on the floor, surrounded by paperwork. Callisto sucked in through her teeth, "looks fun," she said.

Natalia hadn’t expected to be interrupted, but in a hospital like St. Mungo’s, it was all but expected. When she looked up from her work, though, she was pleased to see that the interrupter was of the best kind – that was, someone whose presence she actually enjoyed. “More like my own personal circle of hell.” Natalia said with a little bit of a sigh. “Why is there so much writing?” She hadn’t gotten into healing so that she could write every thought about the patient that ever came to her mind, which was basically what charting was. “Are you doing anything better?” Natalia asked Callisto. Maybe she could live vicariously through the other Healer.

Callisto chuckled, shaking her head as Natalia spoke of what the circle of papers really was. She shrugged as Natalie asked about the writing and then walked a little closer as she asked Callisto if she was doing anything better. "Let me take a look," she didn't mind the paperwork, in all honesty. Callisto really like charts, graphs and things of the like. Especially since she liked to make her own and make things incredible organized. This worked for her. This was what she liked. She bent down, bending her knees a bit so she could look at the pages Natalia had spread out, "are these the things you turn into your Department Head?"

Natalia turned around the papers so that Callisto could see them all, not exactly glad to relinquish them but grateful that someone else was looking at them with a fresh eye. Natalia nodded once, quick and sharp, when Callisto asked if she turned the files into the Department Head. “Yes. To make sure we’ve been following protocol and everything like that.” Nat tapped some of the files, which had green headings. “The poisoning cases we also give to Magical Law Enforcement so that prosecution can occur, if it’s criminal.” And there was always the fact that Natalia tried her best to learn from all of the cases that came through, so copying them all down into files wasn’t bad for studying purposes.

Callisto leaned forward to get a good look and surveyed them. "Awe, yes," she said as the cases to be turned into law enforcement were mentioned. "Well... I think you've got a good system here. Except," she pointed to one of the pages, "if you were to track this," she pointed, "with the same way you're tracking these," she pointed to another one, "I think that would make it easier to distinguish what needs to be sent to who and at what level of urgency. She looked up at Natalia, her face a soft smile, "that's my two bits, but I think you just have to figure out what works best for you, which seems to be exactly what you're doing," she realized, nodding her head and standing up once again, "how long are you trapped here for?"

Callisto had some good tips on how to better track everything, and Nat nodded. “I should have thought of that.” She said, more to herself than anything. If she hadn’t been so tired, maybe she would have, but as things were, the probability of Nat coming up with anything vaguely resembling intelligent was low. She could fill in a template, but not much else. “I’m here until eight.” Nat answered with a sad sigh. “Trying to get in as many hours as possible so I have enough money for some nice holiday gifts.” Which was a good reason to be working overtime, of course, but it still grated on Nat’s nerves occasionally. She missed the days of endless riches, even if she didn’t miss the parents that came with it. “What about you? Are you escaping soon?” Once again Nat would try to live vicariously through Callisto.

Callisto was happy to give advice, and even happier when it was received well. Not that she really showed that genuine happiness or anything. At the mention of holiday gifts, Callisto paused before shaking her head, "I have not even thought about those," big surprise there.
"Awe, I'm only here til' six," she explained, answering the returned question. She was only part-time here, and was glad for it. She missed her full time patients sometimes but those days were over, no use dwelling on them.

“Normally I wouldn’t have, either.” Nat replied when Callisto said she hadn’t yet thought of holiday gifts. “But seeing as this is only the second Christmas I’m spending with my family, I thought I should put in more effort than usual.” And really, the first Christmas barely counted, because – well, it just didn’t.
Nat sighed a little when Callisto said that she was only at the hospital until six. “Going to any fun parties?” Natalia asked drily. Callisto wasn’t the party kind, which Natalia could definitely understand, but it was fun to ask anyways, especially since the other woman’s response was sure to be either scathing or equally dry, both of which would be equally humorous.

"Oh, yeah," Callisto said slowly, trying to recall the story, "I'm not really sure I know much about all that. But you were adopted, was it?" she asked. It actually was interesting to her, mainly because she was sure that Sarah would get herself killed or something and someone would need to take Sebastian in, and Callisto was sure that she was the best choice. Her nephew deserved something stable, and she could be that, right? She was oddly good with kids, given her personality.
Natalia asked if she was going to any fun parties, which actually made her laugh, "No. I'll be working on things for my other job, planning for the Yule Ball," she shrugged, "which I guess is a fun party."

Natalia was almost glad that Callisto couldn’t come up with the story off the top of her head. After her last year at Hogwarts where she was constantly watched and regarded with suspicion, at least until James and Abby had intervened, it was nice to know that people didn’t pay as much attention to her anymore. “Yes, I was.” It had been more of a business arrangement back then, though, rather than the creation of a family. But somewhere along the line, things had changed. “I’m excited to actually get them gifts.” Natalia said with a little laugh. The Christmas before she had barely known the Longbottoms, so giving them gifts would have been an ordeal.
“Oh, I forgot!” Nat exclaimed. Since she only really saw Callisto working at the hospital, it often slipped Nat’s mind that the other woman had a part-time job at the Ministry as well. “The Yule Ball is supposed to be great fun!” She enthused. “Neville’s been planning a lot for it, from what I hear.”

Callisto listened as Natalia said she was adopted, but didn't get more of an explanation. That was fine, she supposed, but she did make a mental note to ask Natalia more about it... later. Then she smiled, "so you get along well with them, then? I guess it's been about a year, hasn't it?" she heard a little about it through the grapevine, just gossip, not much that she really cared for. But she liked Natalia, always had, so she cared enough.
Then Nat exclaimed that she forgot something and revealed that she meant the ball. Callisto nodded, smiling lightly. "Yes, the Headmaster-" she paused, remember that that was who adopted Natalia. She went on, "he has been very helpful. Will you be attending?" she didn't see how Natalia would be.

“I’d say so, yes.” Nat said. There was still some progress to be made with Alice, but otherwise, her closeness (or lack thereof) with the rest of the Longbottom clan was Natalia’s own doing. Even a year later, she was trying to get used to the entire idea of a family. She stilled called her adoptive parents by their first names, which was probably an indicator enough of her relationship with them. But Andy? Nat had made amazing progress in her relationship with her biological sister. “Part of it is they’re all still at Hogwarts. Well, Phil’s in Brazil, but I can’t reach them.” There was always owls, of course, but Natalia was still awkward when it came to initiating contact with any of the Longbottoms other than Hannah and Neville.
“No.” Natalia answered breezily when Callisto asked if she was going to the Ball. “There’s no official reason for me to be there.” Natalia wasn’t one to bend rules. She had had more than enough balls in her life to desire another, even one as romantic as the Yule Ball. Besides, the security would be a nightmare. In the end, Nat would be just as happy to spend Christmas snuggling by a fire with James.

Callisto was glad that Natalie felt she got along well with her new family. She was also glad that she was still in touch with them, even know they weren't her guardians legally for that long since she was an adult now. Natalia mentioned Hogwarts and how her siblings were there, "ooh, yes. That does make a dent in developing relationships," she was still incredibly close to her younger siblings at Hogwarts, but she could see how it'd be hard if you didn't grow with them. "Brazil? Why is he there?" Callisto had to wrack her brain to recall who Phil was... yup, she had no idea. But he was clearly one of the new siblings in question.
Natalia confirmed that there was no reason for her to be at the ball as Callisto expected. "Well, I don't expect to do too much dancing. I'll just be working during it all," she explained. Plus, she was not a dancer, not by any means. She was stiff as a board and it got worse if someone expected her to move.

“I’m sure we’ll figure it out.” Nat said with a shrug. She hated to say it, but she was looking forward to the summer not because she would finally be done with her training, but because she would get to spend more time with the entirety of her family. “Oh, he’s in an exchange program with Castelobruxo!” Nat said brightly. “He’s very into Herbology, and form what I understand it was a way for him to broaden his horizons, and see plants beyond just the ones native to Britain.” Nat was going to go on about how Andy missed Phil terribly, but it seemed like a poor time and place to explain how her adoptive brother was also romantically involved with her biological sister. Was she even allowed to say that? It wasn’t like it was a secret at Hogwarts, but Natalia didn’t want to say something that Andy didn’t want to make public.
Nat cocked her head when Callisto said she didn’t expect to do much dancing. “What work can you possibly do during a ball?” Natalia asked. She knew that there would be Aurors there working to make sure everyone was safe, but Callisto wasn’t one, and Nat couldn’t figure out what else could be done at the Ball.
