Freddi had all but begged his closest friend @rory to come to the Orphanage today. It was December first, and he was in all sorts of a mess. He had run into his wife, YES HIS WIFE, last month and he was freaking out. He realized he hadn't even told Rory about that entire thing because he had misplaced that memory himself. So, here he was, noonday at the Orphanage, pacing his entrance hall of the mansion orphanage and waiting for his best friend to arrive. Seriously, how long did it take? In reality, Rory wasn't even late yet. He still had ten minutes to get there. Basically, Freddies owl to him said this:
"Rororororoorororororor,
I've got big news, mate. Please come tomorrow at noon and I know you don't work because you told me so don't make excuses. I needs to speaks with youuuuuu. See you at noon.
- Freddie
Oh, oh, at the Orphanage. Obviously.'
And now, alas, he waited.

Rory was going early to the orphanage. Really, he was curious more than anything. Why was Freddie so desperate for him to show up? Granted, it wasn't completely out of the ordinary for Rory to get owls from his close friend saying things like this, being extremely vague but urgent at the same time. Still, it wasn't an every-day sort of thing either. He was sitting in his apartment, looking at a clock and wondering if Freddie would mind if he showed up early. Probably not, right? After all, Freddie wasn't really the patient type. When he had five minutes until it was time for him to be there, Rory got up and walked out of his apartment, apparating to the orphanage.
He arrived and hurried up to the door. Rory was there frequently enough (as a mediwizard that volunteered there often) that he had no qualms and simply walked in. "Freddie," he called, sure that his friend was somewhere nearby. He wouldn't just leave right before Rory was supposed to arrive, after all. At least, Rory hoped he wouldn't. That wasn't entirely out of the ordinary either, but Rory didn't mind. Freddie was his closest mate, after all. "Where are you?" Rory called out, not bothering to keep his voice down. The sooner Freddie realized he was here, the sooner Rory would find out what was going on, after all.

Freddie heard his name called and he ran to the door, opening it and reaching out to grab Rory's arm, pulling him inside and quickly shutting the door, all very conspiratorially, "Come quickly, into my office," his office was just off the front door. He pulled Rory inside and shut that door too. "Sit, sit," he said, gesturing to the seat across from his desk whereas he just sat right on top of the desk.
He stopped, breathed, and smiled. "First of all, how are you mate? I feel terrible that we haven't spent much time together, I'm afraid it's my fault. Holidays are incredibly busy with the children's gifts and all the excess volunteers and all. Seriously, why do people only volunteer at Christmas time? It's like they think I only need help around this time pshh," he said all of this very, very fast.

Rory wanted to laugh at Freddie's secretive behavior, but settled for a smile. He didn't want to distract his friend from whatever-it-was that was so important. He followed Freddie quickly into his office and sat down, looking up at his friend as he sat on the desk.
He grinned again when Freddie started talking again. Oh, he'd missed this. His friend asking questions and then going off on his own tangents. It wasn't different at all, which was a good thing. Once Freddie paused, Rory took the chance to speak. "I've been good. Yeah, good. Nothing too big is happening at St. Mungos you know. Just doing my job. I've been planning on coming for a while now, but holidays. Busy, y'know? I was glad to get your letter though. What's going on, mate?" He knew there had to be a reason that Freddie sent him that owl, and he really wanted to know what it was. What happened? Still, he was trying to appear calm and patient. It shouldn't be too long now.

Rory spoke, saying how he had been good and that nothing big was happening. Freddie realized how nervous he was to talk about his secret, but he knew Ror would understand more than anyone else would... right? He would certainly laugh at Freddie. But in a good natured way, he hoped.
Worry got to asking what was going on, mentioning the letter, and Freddie took in a deep breath. "I'm married," he said quickly, making eye contact with Ror and wincing back a little at the words. "I had completely forgotten, Ror. A few years ago at a casino place in Germany... very drunk. We got married and I ran into her the other day," he gulped, "and then we both remembered."

Freddie finally started explaining what was going on and Rory found himself frozen in shock. He was ... married? Rory chuckled a little, more a disbelieving chuckle than anything else, though he most certainly did believe his friend. "How did you forget you were married?" Rory asked before really even thinking. It was fine. He wasn't mad at Freddie at all, just trying to understand. Granted, it probably had something to do with being very drunk. "What happened when you ran into her? Did you two talk or just pass one another on the street?" It was interesting, how little details his friend was giving him on this subject. Normally Freddie got on tangents and could talk and talk but that wasn't happening today, which was strange. That was okay. Rory knew the kinds of questions to ask to get him talking. Most of the time. Hopefully he'd get at least a little more out of his friend.

Rory chuckled, which was to be expected, but Freddie started to remove his bow tie and undo his top button, suddenly feeling very warm. "It was just so long ago we just... forgot! We spoke, I bought her a drink," he explained, in answer to Ror's inquires. He used his bow tie to dab at his forehead, "and Lord, she was beautiful. But I barely know anything about her and I'm hoping to see her again soon, to figure all of this out..." he was talking fast again, but his hands weren't moving as much as they were last time. "I just hope that I didn't make a huge mistake and ruin her life. She seemed to have forgotten too, though. She didn't look... angry," he said.

Freddie seemed nervous, or something. He was taking off his bow tie, which wasn't a particularly common thing. He was normally really confident in whatever he was doing. He started answering Rory's questions and then he was ... wiping himself off? Was he sweating? Rory stared at his friend, entirely confused. What in the world was going on here? "Wait, you have plans to see her? When?" Rory wasn't trying to pry, but Freddie brought it up and Rory wanted to make sure things were alright with his friend. "How did she look, since she wasn't angry? And if she forgot, how did you ... remember?" Really though, if they both forgot about getting married, how was Freddie so sure it happened. Normally Rory wasn't one to ask so many questions, but before he could tell his friend what he thought, he had to know what happened. At least get a little more about the circumstances. It was weird that Freddie had been married the whole time Rory knew him. Strange thought.

Freddie tried not to hyperventilate and took in a deep breath when Rory asked more questions. "I'm going to a concert she's performing in on the 23rd. And... she looked... amazing," he said, zoning out for a split second before snapping himself back into the present, "she was just calm! Like! No emotion! That's! How she always is!" his excited tone had raised in pitch, but he kept going. "I don't know. I just saw her and I knew. In my heart, my soul," he sighed dramatically, looking up at the ceiling and pouting, "I must get to know her, actually this time. I didn't know anything about her last time... lots of alcohol. Stupid kids," he wasn't that young, though... just stupid.

Rory was surprised by how excited his friend seemed like this. In all honesty, Rory couldn't remember a time when Freddie had been so worked up about something. Not that him getting worked up was a new thing, but this seemed to be a little more extreme than normal. He smiled when Freddie talked about how amazing she looked, then cocked his head to the side when Freddie said she had no emotion, like always. "How many times did you see her?" He asked curiously. He'd gotten the impression that it was just one night, but maybe it wasn't. "Getting to know her would probably be a good thing ..." Rory responded, nodding his head in agreement. "What are you going to do with her? Or do you just have the concert thing planned?" Freddie was in a talkative mood, so Rory just egged it on, curious to see what he could learn about this girl.

"It was one night and a day back then and then just an afternoon now but... it was clear that she's always that way. At least around me. I have to convince myself it's everywhere so that I don't think she hates me,"he admitted. Rory said getting to know her would probably be a good thing and Freddie made a WELL DUH face. "So far just the concert planned... probably take her out to dinner after. Maybe try to find her before the new year... I don't know, Rory," he shook his head, running his fingers through his hair.
"Let's talk about you for a moment. What's new? What's up? What's happening?"

Rory wasn't exactly sure if Freddie was done talking about his ... wife, but that was the reason he'd asked Rory to come. So Rory felt only a little guilt for asking so any questions. "I doubt she hates you," he commented after a minute. No one hated Freddie. At least, not to Rory's knowledge. "Well you should spend time with her. See how often she'll do stuff with you and just go with it. What don't you know?" He asked curiously.
Then Freddie started asking about Rory and he shook his head, "Nothing is really going on with me. Same old me: working, playing with the children, wandering around Diagon Alley. If anything new happened, you would probably be the first person I'd tell." He smiled ruefully, "I am not very exciting."

Rory said the girl didn't hate him and Freddie just groaned, shaking his head. Then, at the suggestion of spending time with her, Freddie nodded. "I think that's a great idea. I will get to know her. And I just mean I don't know what I'm doing with myself," he laughed nervously again.
Then, Rory answered saying that nothing was going on with him and if anything was he'd tell Freddie first. Fred nodded, "well, mate, we need to get some excitement in your life. Come. Let us bake a cake!" he said, swiftly moving toward the door and catching Rorys arm to guide him.
Soon they were surrounded in children, flour, sugar, chocolate and other cake ingredients. Baking was one of Freddies favorite ways to distract himself from what was going on in his head...
