Rory wasn't used to having free time. As a full-time mediwizard he worked constantly and was always looking for more chances to help people. That was one of the reasons he volunteered at the orphanage, besides the fact that Freddie was one of his closest friends. He loved helping people, children, anyone really. But at the moment there was no one to help. Rory had slept off a long shift and was now wandering around Diagon Alley, trying to find something to entertain himself with. Or someone to talk to. Really, Rory didn't care which one. He just wanted something to do. He walked into the apothecary for a bit, just looking around and seeing if they had anything of interest to him. They didn't. He spent so much of his time with potions that theirs weren't a surprise and the ingredients weren't anything he hadn't seen before.
He walked out of the shop, surprised when he ran into someone. How had he not seen them. "My apologies, I wasn't looking where I was going," he said quickly. Not that it would be a big deal. Running into people in Diagon Alley was quite commonplace.

@rory an impromptu shopping trip was what had harper in diagon alley at this very moment. in a few days she'd be leaving to visit romani before she started her training, she wanted to get a feel for the place again since it had been a while since she'd visited. she had spent a fair few summers there with her father and while she still remembered how it was there, according to her father it hadn't changed, but she wanted to see it for herself before she was thrust into the throes of working. she had been in and out of a few shops already, purchased a new set of robes for the very trip she was going on, a few things for her new house guests so they'd be alright while she was gone and a few small things plus a jar of some sort of magical preserve that a little old woman had sold her in one of the shops. she was hoping her grandmother would like it. while she was thinking about what she still might need, not really paying attention to the road in front of her, when suddenly she ran into something that seemed very solid. it knocked her back, though she didn't fall as she managed to step a foot back and keep her balance by grabbing onto a sign that was hanging just above her shoulder. "My apologies, I wasn't looking where I was going," she shook her head and let go of the sign, running a hand over her hair to smooth it she smiled. "no harm done. i wasn't really watching where i was going either. that's what i get for thinking too much about shopping!" she said with a laugh. she wouldn't make any sort of fuss over this, she hadn't been paying attention. she looked at the man she had collided with and couldn't help but feel that she knew him from somewhere. then again he did look an awful lot, at least to her, like her father charlie but as far as she knew he didn't have any other relatives running around that they didn't know about.

The young woman had to grab a sign to keep herself from falling, but at least she didn't seem upset by him running into her. That was definitely a plus. He laughed when she said she was too distracted by shopping to pay attention. "So you're a big shopper then?" he teased with a smile. "Are you out shopping for anything in particular?" he asked curiously. Of course, it didn't have anything to do with Rory, but oh well. Maybe he could help her with something? Or not, it really depended on what she was doing and her mood. Rory was just bored and looking for something to do

@rory "So you're a big shopper then?" she laughed as she looked down at the bags in her hands and she shrugged slightly. "depends on what i'm shopping for!" she said as she shifted her hold on the handles of the bags. "Are you out shopping for anything in particular?" she shook her head as she stepped to the side of the path so people could go around her if they were walking past. "i picked up what i needed already so now i'm just looking" she said with a smile. she was headed to romania soon and while it was easy enough to travel back home, she wanted to make sure she had all she needed. "want to walk with me while i look in windows?" she said as she took a step back in the direction she had been walking. it might seem strange to ask someone she didn't know to walk with her but that was how you met new people.

Rory laughed at her answer, "Well it looks like you've been shopping for a lot today," he said easily. "Do you need any help carrying those?" Rory held a hand out, offering to help if she wanted it. Then again, she might not. He knew some women didn't want men to help them with things and wondered if she was one of them or not. "Sure, I'll walk around with you for a bit. I'm not really doing anything right now." He followed her easily, wondering what sort of shops they would go to now. At least, that would be one way for her to get to know him.

@rory "Well it looks like you've been shopping for a lot today, Do you need any help carrying those?" she shook her head. they were light enough at the moment that she could carry them no trouble and she doubted that she was going to buy much more that would be heavy unless she decided to stop in at the pet store they had and see what they had available for pet dogs. she hadn't ever paid much attention to what was in there because they'd never been allowed pets due to her sisters many health problems. "i'm okay for now, maybe in a while i can put those arms to use" she said with a wink as she turned to walk down the path next to him. "Sure, I'll walk around with you for a bit. I'm not really doing anything right now." she nodded slightly and turned her head to look at him. "the company will be nice. i'm harper."

Rory nodded when the girl said she didn't want any help with the bags. At least, not at the moment. He smiled at her, "Well if you change your mind, I can help you whenever." Really, that was just what Rory did. He liked to help people. He didn't really care what he was helping them with, but he was always willing. He laughed when she winked at him and then introduced herself. "What, you don't normally have company with you?" He asked with a smile. "My name is Rory and I'm a mediwizard." He walked along with her, looking into the shop windows as they went along. "What do you do with your time, Harper?"

"What, you don't normally have company with you?" she shrugged a little and smiled. she often had company it was just that she didn't have anyone with her today. she could have waited till her father or mother was free or one of her friends or even her cousins since it was the holidays but she hadn't wanted to wait. "it all depends" she said with a smile. "My name is Rory and I'm a mediwizard. What do you do with your time, Harper?" she smiled with a nod as he said who he was. "that's interesting. how long have you been doing that?" she asked as she ran a hand through her hair to brush it back off her face when the wind blew. "i'm going to work with dragons." she said with a smile.

Rory shrugged when she said that it depended. Probably on what her friends were doing. After all, it was the time of year when most people were busy buying gifts for others and such. He smiled when she asked about his job. "You know, since I left Hogwarts. I went straight into St. Mungo's. I always wanted to be a doctor when I was growing up, so when I found out I was a wizard, it wasn't a hard decision to be a healer." She seemed super excited when she mentioned what she was going to do, work with dragons. "What made you decide to work with dragons?" he asked curiously. Sure, the idea of dragons was cool, but also dangerous.

@rory "You know, since I left Hogwarts. I went straight into St. Mungo's. I always wanted to be a doctor when I was growing up, so when I found out I was a wizard, it wasn't a hard decision to be a healer." so he was a muggleborn or at least his parents had decided to keep the fact he was a wizard to themselves, not that it really mattered. "well there really isn't any difference is there! well apart from the magic .." she said with a laugh. "i suppose that's a pretty big thing" she said as they kept walking. she had thought about being a healer for a brief moment in time when she'd been a child but it had only lasted a few hours she was pretty sure. she'd seen her brother scrape his knee just after and she decided in that moment she'd never be one to comfort people when they needed it. well she could her family and she was always up for a hug and a kind word but if someone needed her to be sympathetic to something or try and understand how they were feeling, well that just wasn't her. "What made you decide to work with dragons?" she shrugged slightly as she looked at him. she didn't know at what point she had made the choice. she could pin point the exact moment she had wanted to become a model but working with dragons? it had just always been on her mind so naturally she wanted to work with them. "my father's worked with them for years. i used to go with him to romania during the summers and .. i guess it's just stuck."

Rory laughed when she said there wasn't a big difference between doctor and healer. "Yeah, I know," he admitted easily. "I looked into other things, to see if there was anything else I was interested in, but nothing else really stuck out to me." When it came time for Rory to make his decision about what he should do with his life, he looked at all the options. Having magic widened the possibilities and he didn't want to miss something just because he wanted to be a doctor his whole life. But he was pleased by his choice. He watched her as she started to explain her interest in dragons. "Did you get to see dragons when you went to Romania with him or did he try and keep you away from them?" Rory knew his parents never would have let him close to anything that could have hurt him as a child, but he didn't know if magical parents normally did the same thing or not. "But that's really cool, as long as you know what you're doing and try to not get hurt." Working at St. Mungo's, Rory saw enough people getting hurt because they weren't as careful as they should have been in situations.

@rory "Did you get to see dragons when you went to Romania with him or did he try and keep you away from them?" she didn't remember being kept away from them. although she did know that people had stayed a lot closer to her when she was around them after she'd been clawed by a baby one. "i got to see them. i got up close and personal a lot of the time when he thought it was safe enough." she said with a smile but her hand automatically went to her shoulder, her fingers touching the spot through her shirt where her scar lay under the fabric. it was easy enough to hide with magic so it didn't interfere with her modelling career but the fact it was there at times bothered her but most of the time it reminded her to be careful. "But that's really cool, as long as you know what you're doing and try to not get hurt." touched, she turned to him and smiled. "i promise i'll try and be careful. but at least i know there are mediwizards like you out there." she said with a friendly wink as she walked down the path. "it's winter and it's cold .. but i have a sudden want for ice cream. would you like one?"

Something in the way she responded made Rory think that she got hurt by a dragon at one time or another, but it wasn't enough to stop her from wanting to work with them, so he wasn't going to pry. Also, that wasn't really the way Rory worked. People could confide in him if they wanted to, but he never forced them to. It was their choice. "That sounds cool. I've never been close to a dragon. Actually, I've never seen one except for pictures," he mused, thinking about it for a moment. Did most wizards come into contact with dragons at one point or another or was that a more unique experience to have? He smiled when she said that she would try to be careful and then commented that at least mediwizards were there to help if necessary. "Yes, we are, but it's a whole lot easier for everyone if precautions are taken," he added with a smile. She would probably get annoyed by his attitude, but he'd much rather someone not be careless and not need his services than the opposite.
He smiled and nodded when she asked if he wanted ice cream. "I actually like ice cream in the winter," he answered, following her into the building. "Double chocolate," he said when it was his turn at the front. Rory was a pretty predictable human being and chocolate was one of his favorite things. Most people asked him why he didn't try new things, but most of the times he just wanted what he already knew he liked. Something familiar.

@rory "That sounds cool. I've never been close to a dragon. Actually, I've never seen one except for pictures," that wasn't an uncommon thing. a lot of wizards hadn't seen dragons in their life. the only reason she had been able to see one was because her father had taken her along on his trips with him. it was something she felt blessed to have been able to do, otherwise she would have chosen a different career path and while she liked modelling and being in front of a camera, she didn't think she could do just that. "well not all witches and wizards have." she said as they walked along the path. "Yes, we are, but it's a whole lot easier for everyone if precautions are taken," she smiled and nodded slightly. she knew that being careful when it came to dangerous creatures was always best. she was reckless in a lot of aspects of her life but when it came to something as dangerous as a dragon, there was always that little amount of extra care. "i've been on the bad side of a dragon before, i'm not all that willing to do that again so i'll be careful, i promise." she said with a bright smile.
"I actually like ice cream in the winter," well that was lucky. she followed him into the building and walked to the counter, looking at all the choices they had. "Double chocolate," chocolate. he was a chocolate eater. she had always known she was the oddball in the room when people found out she wasn't a chocolate fan but she didn't hold it against people. she touched a finger to her chin as she decided. "hmm .. i think i'll have a scoop of watermelon, a scoop of passion fruit and a scoop of vanilla." she said with a grin. "in a little bowl, not a cone." she rushed to add as the server started scooping out her selections. she wasn't a fan of sticky fingers so she always ordered it in a little bowl.

Well, she just answered his question and he didn't even have to ask. That was nice. And it was somewhat comforting to know that he wasn't left out because he'd never seen a dragon before. Coming from a muggle family, he wasn't sure about it. Rory chuckled when she agreed with him softly. "Good. And if something happens and you do get hurt, even being cautious, you can always call on me and I'll do what I can to help you."
He watched as the younger girl ordered three different flavored. He'd tried vanilla before, but never watermelon or passion fruit. He chuckled quietly and then made his way over to a table once they handed him the cone. Harper didn't order one but he didn't understand why. The cone was the best part! "So, what should I know about you other than the fact you love dragons?" Rory asked with a smile on his face.
