The ancestral home of the Longbottoms is a centuries-old, three-story manor located at the top of a large hill. It is quaint and small, compared to the manors of many pureblood families, but is still capable of housing dozens of people for extended periods of time. The house has a large amount of windows, making it bright and sunny almost all day. The house and the hill are all hidden by the Fidelius Charm, with Neville designated as the Secret Keeper. The main fireplace of the manor is connected to the Floo Network, but another fireplace has a secret Floo connection to the fireplace in the Longbottoms' private quarters over the Leaky Cauldron, allowing Order members to move without being tracked. The manor itself, in addition to the Fidelius Charm, has the usual array of magical protection that such old homes have, giving it a level of protection similar to Hogwarts. Augusta Longbottom has a portrait here, with a matching portrait at the Leaky Cauldron, allowing her to bring news from the biggest bar in England straight to the Order's ears.
The hill itself is quite large and stands alone, giving the manor a great view in every direction. Upon the hill itself are several tiered gardens and five greenhouses, where Neville houses the rarest, most valuable, and most dangerous plants in his vast collection. Longbottom Hill is peppered with an array of plants personally grown by Neville to provide protection against a possible assault, if one should come. The base of the hill is ringed in a special species of Whomping Willows, crossbred with Wandeater Willows, to force any ground attackers to converge on the front walk, making it simple to take them down from the top of the hill. Venomous Tentacula, Devil's Snare, Adderstongue (snakelike plants that inject acid into their victims), and Blasting Caps (exploding mushrooms) dot the bottom half of the hill, making it a meat grinder just to get to the safer sections higher up. Even these sections are dangerous—a massive thorn elemental pack roams the upper half of the hill, well trained by Neville to recognize friend from foe.
The final guardian, aside from the witches and wizards at the manor, is the Ryutoki. Also known as the Japanese Wood Dragon, it resembles a wooden serpent, save for the four legs and dragonlike head on it. The Ryutoki is forty feet in length, nearly immune to magic, and instead of fire, breathes poisonous clouds that cause severe allergic reactions and swelling on the skin and can cause anaphylactic shock if inhaled.
